[ sean teale, he/him, cis man ] — was that LAURENCE MONTFORD? the THIRTY year old is the EARL of MARYLEBONE, how exciting to see them this season! rumors have it they are CHARMING and COMPASSIONATE, but i’ve heard they are UNRELIABLE and RAKISH as well — maybe that’s why they’ve been called the LIBERTINE. I have even heard that HE IS IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE BELOW HIS STATION — only time will tell.

history

laurence montford is the first born and only son of the montford family, expected to carry on their name for as long as he could remember

tw parent death;; if his sister was the light in their family, laurie had always been more of a serious child, far too aware of societal norms and behaviors too young; his mother died in childbirth and it was always something that he had hanging over him from his relatives, if not his father. some might say that was why he was so serious, but even before he knew, he did not have the cheerful demeanor of his playmates

remarriage perhaps should have scared him more as a child, but he was honestly just excited to have what he saw as a complete family, even if she would not be exactly like a mother;; his sister was still a sister, the "half" disregarded by laurie as easily as he does people

she's honestly his largest priority — their parents passed away of illness when he was barely an adult, and he's been her guardian since. responsibility suits him when he wants it to, but he is prone to bouts of hypocrisy when it involves his own personal affairs versus hers

though perhaps it should be expected of him to marry, as an earl and the eldest child, laurie is still in his more immature phases — to put it as simply as possible, he is, in fact, a whore (affectionate) and more prone to situations of convenience rather than romance

despite this fact, there always seems to be mothers, guardians, even young girls who think him to be in love with someone or another — it would be amusing if it weren't so strange to him.

typically, his demeanor is quite serious still, though if you happen upon him with his mates, he's a little more relaxed and even shows good humor on occasion

fun facts

he's a big animal guy; he really loves his purebred hunting hounds more than anything, and pretends that he doesn't particularly care for their old stray turned barn cat, or the mutt that's lived on their family's estate since he was a younger boy. he'll complain while he feeds them fancy treats

he's overprotective of his sister — his entire reason for involvement in the season this time, rather than fun, is to perhaps finally find her a good match, but it's a little difficult when no one is quite good enough, she's too young, and she hardly makes it easier on him by arguing

past romances — dalliances, flings, etc; they've probably fucked lmao

rivals — from his school days, those he butts heads with in a "friendly" way; maybe they've been interested in the same people romantically in the past, maybe they are solely academic

unrequited crushes — laurie is not the type to entertain true romantic intentions, and therefore any crush on him is typically unrequited

ex-suitor — perhaps the first season that he was actually participating in, he entertained an individual, but he did not decide to propose and they have been bitter since

ex-friends — perhaps they had a falling out, perhaps they drifted apart; these two just simply are not as close as they once were

Early Life

Maric was everything he was supposed to be as a Baratheon child, the glowing endorsement of his house’s reputation. Strong, stubborn and brave, always ready for a fight; that was who Maric Baratheon was. He was also his brother’s biggest supporter, never jealous of their positions. Maric was more than happy to fight in the yard while his brother was given more political lessons than he was.

If there was support for Tobas, he loved him and wanted to do everything he could to support him. Maric was the loud and boisterous one who would jump in blazing for his brother when needed, or when not needed. He needed to be the center of attention, he needed to be known.

Attention was what he craved, he was good at getting it too. His mother was his favorite person, he was the fun older brother, the supportive younger brother, and the one who could rouse everyone to cheers. Maric also never short for romantic attention.

Things were great, perfect even until his brother was to be married, the Stark woman, love at first sight. For Maric. His brother's betrothed, his wife was everything Maric wanted. And the one thing he couldn’t have.

That was the first time a wedge was driven between Maric and Tobas. He loved his brother but he hated watching them together. Hated watching them have children. Tensions grew as more squabbles happened, the jealousy growing far greater than he's expected. Maric made the choice to leave Storms End as often as possible, the charming liaison his brother needed. 

Tobas invited Maric home, and insisted on a hunting trip. The pair having gone from a constant pair to going months without seeing each other. The reunion they expected to celebrate ended all too abruptly. They were used to storms, they knew when to call off a hunt. This time they were caught by surprise. A storm and the bear they never saw. 

Maric walked back the the castle with the body of his best friend and brother, and had to listen to the screams of the woman he loved mourn the man she loved. 

Now

The title of Ruling Lord of Storm’s End should be his, he knows he should be the one who holds the title while his nephew ages. Instead his brother’s widow holds the title. Maric’s planned to fight her for it, he knows part of it is pettiness. Another thing he can’t have because of his brother. 

With the impending changes around them, Maric knows Storm’s End needs him. It needs a strong ruler who will do what he has to for the people of the Storm Lands. He’s a warrior and that’s what they need. 

Fun Facts

He feels guilty that his brother's death even in part made him happy. His brother was still his best friend and nothing was ever his fault. But it meant his brother lost what he wanted. 

Maric loves his nephews and his niece, he’d do anything for them and he’s never shy about it. He doesn’t want to take the title of ruling lord from his nephew but he thinks he should hold it. 

Has a reputation for taking as many lovers as possible and never staying. A heartbreaker, he’s accepted it and it’s partly true. He never stays with anyone for long because he knows he can’t ever actually love them. 

will start fights just for fun, actually can be a menace.
