When too busy dealing with the school staff conference, Reptor orders Bloom to go and get along with his sisters so he obliges. Not the biggest fan of getting his nails painted but it helps him get to better know what colors his little sisters like as well as how impulsive they can be.

There's this guy on my block who restructured his whole life around his gen 1 HTC Vive - somehow got his hands on that vaporware immersive scent attachment and dropped $10k on one of those static treadmill deals, the works. He's forged phony press documents to get his hands on that new assassin's creed game, made sure that they sent him the collector's edition just for the haptic feedback suit. just piecemeal assembling the worlds most advanced VR goonrig, dropped of his pets and houseplants for me to take care of for a week so he could focus on edging himself. Didn't want to know about that but shit, he gave me a couple hundred bucks for my trouble so I'm gonna withhold judgement. Anyways he leaves, the power on the block flickers for a second and he's knocking on my door ten minutes later freshly showered and wearing normal clothes. Picked up all his shit from my apartment and tipped me another $50. Word around the neighborhood is that he sealed himself into his goon cocoon and booted up a Blade and Sorcery instance with like 240 something gigs of sex-mods; the overstimulation sent a pulse through his brain and kick-started his prefrontal cortex. Sounds like a load of horseshit to me, all I know is he took down all his blackout curtains and got a job. Saw him wheeling all his equipment to the curb on trash day. I think he plays golf now

a lot of people are saying that narratively it would be anticlimactic if it isn’t gojo who defeats kenjaku, bc kenny is in geto’s body. but gojo’s sealing scene airing in the anime this week reminded me of something - as far we know, kenny STILL doesn’t know much about yuta as a sorcerer. he hasn’t learned more during the culling games (as far as i remember?), so he doesn’t know (bc geto didn’t know) that yuta is a special grade on his own, and cursed rika, not the other way around.

which means when gojo before being sealed says that yuta will beat kenny, while kenny laughs it off in shibuya, i think in the end gojo will be right. obviously the final fight has to be yuji vs sukuna. and specifically yuji and megumi’s soul vs sukuna, to parallel and tie up megumi vs sukuna and yuji’s soul. but just like this story has multiple protagonists, it also has multiple villains - the person who it makes the most sense to be the final face off for kenjaku is YUTA.

1) yuta has defeated geto’s cursed techniques before.

2) narratively it would be full circle if gojo’s student and teachings defeats the ancient curse user who stole gojo’s beloved’s body. especially if gojo died before he could properly mourn geto’s body like he said he wanted. there’s also a theory that with gojo dead, yuta could copy the six eyes + limitless, but even without that, it would work.

3) the main theme of jjk is BREAKING LITERAL GENERATIONAL CURSES. if the only special grade sorcerer left alive (Yuta), trained by Gojo who mentored a new gen to operate differently and care about each other and change jujutsu society, defeats one of the most powerful curse user’s of ancient times (Kenjaku), it will be a symbolic defeat of the cycle, and of the new finally exorcising the bad of the old.

Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 81 (The Mysterious Woman Returns)

Just before sunrise, with Ash still in San Myshuno and Heather and Lavender asleep, Conrad got dressed. He checked to ensure the newly installed security cameras were working. As he stepped out, Gord whimpered quietly.

Walking from Sable Square to the docks, he wasn't quite warm enough in his sweater and knit cap. Snow fell in wet clumps but he pressed downhill, keeping his hands in his pockets.

Fisherman's Wharf was always less busy this time of year, with too much ice in the bay for most fishing boats. And at this time of morning, the place was deserted, except for a few hardy seals who didn't mind the snow. That's why he'd agreed to meet here.

"You came."

The voice cut through the whistling wind. Familiar. Detestable. He whipped around to face her for the first time in years. "What do you want, Ximena?"

"It's always been you, Conrad."

"Stop it. I'm serious. What do you want? Heather saw you outside our house. You've been texting me for months from different numbers."

"I saw you put in those new security cameras. Protecting your family from little old me? You said you didn't want children when we were together."

"You hate kids! And I was happy with you until you cheated on me. Don't ever set foot on our property again. Stop calling me."

She laughed as his voice dropped to threaten her. "Conrad, you're such a good cop. To a fault. You'll never hurt me."

"Stay away from my family." He clenched his fists both to fight the cold and keep himself calm.

"The boy is yours, too? You haven't been with that woman that long!"

"Back off, Ximena. Tell me what you want or I'll suggest San Myshuno PD reopen the Los Tigres file."

She started to sweat. "I'm sorry, but you wouldn't answer my texts."

"I blocked your last number for a reason, Xime."

"It's my brother. It's Rafa! He's missing."

Conrad softened at the mention of her younger brother. He was just a kid when he and Ximena broke up, and Rafa's heart broke as much as Conrad's when Ximena cheated. "What do you mean 'missing'?"

"I mean he left for work a month ago and hasn't been seen since. I need you, Detective Gordon. Rafa needs you."

"Are you still doing 'what you're good at'?"

"No Conrad," she insisted. "The sheet on me is too long and my associates cut me off as a liability. Rafa had been in trouble a bit and he's all I have left. I was trying to make a life for both of us, like always! I was trying to start fresh, like you did."

"I'm not promising you anything, but this is for Rafa. If you don't stay away from everyone I care about, I'll bring you in myself. And don't call me. If I need something, I'll call you."

When he returned home, Lavender was still sound asleep, but Heather was awake. "Where were you? I woke up and you were gone. I was about to call you."

"I just got a call about a suspect down at the docks. I didn't want to wake you."

His half-truth seemed to appease her, but their hungry daughter's cries interrupted their conversation. His stomach twisted. She stopped her interrogation to change and feed their daughter, and Conrad tried to hide his nerves while he dressed for work. "I have to get to the station to look over some of this new information, see if it means anything."

She nodded, her attention refocused on their baby girl. "See you tonight. I love you."

He smiled. "I love you, too."

He didn't want Ximena anywhere near the people he loved, and he resigned himself to find Rafa as quickly as possible to be rid of her again. At work, he searched for clues to Rafa's disappearance through the police database, dismayed to discover he'd taken a similar path to his sister.

He wanted to help Rafa, but he was determined to keep Ximena and her circle far away from Heather and the kids. ->

You kept bouncing your leg while sitting on the bench outside of the class, waiting for Sejanus to come out. You hadn't seen him all week, your parents dragged you on a trip to District 1 because of your father's job and - according to him - it was important for you to see how he worked in case you wanted to follow his steps.

The trip had been useless, of course, especially because all you could think of was Sejanus, counting down the seconds until you were going to see him again.

You smiled brightly when the door finally opened and, along with all the other students, there was your boyfriend. As soon as he saw you his eyes widened, walking up to you happily. "You're back." He said, a wide smile now grazing his features, “how was it? Did you get any chance to talk to the people? How did they look? Are the Capitol treating them right? I know you weren’t in District 2 but I always feel that District 1 also-”

"Shhh Sej,” you said, cutting him off by putting your finger on his lips, “can we talk politics after we’ve properly said hello?”

His smile shifted to a smirk, taking your hand and dragging you inside the broom closet.

He closed the door behind him, pushing you against the wall behind you. You were about to tease him about being so eager, but your lips were sealed by Sejanus' mouth suddenly on yours, his hands moving all over your body trying to reach every inch of your skin he could just by lifting your shirt.

“Well that's surely a way to greet me.” You joked, but that stopped his movements.

“You don't want to? We can just wait until we're home and just go eat lunch together-” But you shut him up again with another kiss.

“Sej. It's fine,” you said, giving him a peck, “we can keep going.”

He went back to kissing you, leaving you barely any time to catch your breath, and even if it caught you by surprise you knew better than to stop him. "I'm sorry," he mumbled between kisses, "I haven't seen you all week, I've basically been starving- do you know how much I desperately need you?"

You let out a sigh and threw your head back against the wall as your hands tugged at his hair, Sejanus' lips immediately attacking your neck while his own hands kept your hips steady against the wall. "Yeah, I've got the idea."

He took off your shirt and started kissing your chest, lightly biting on the skin trying to leave marks. Your hands momentarily left his hair to unbutton his pants, trying to reach down in his boxers, but he slapped your hand away.

"No." He stated firmly, unbuttoning and lowering your pants instead. You looked at him confused but he just shook his head, getting down on his knees.

"I haven't seen you all week, I've missed you so much, can I go down on you first?" Sejanus asked, looking up at you with pleading eyes as if you were some kind of divinity he was worshiping. "Please?"

Too fazed from his actions and the position he was in to speak, you just nodded, closing your eyes and waiting for his lips to finally give attention where you needed it the most, when suddenly the door opened.

"Oh my god." Coriolanus got in and immediately covered his eyes the second he saw you, shaking his head. "What the hell Sejanus? You can't just screw people in the broom closet!"

Sejanus groaned and stood up, "Coryo, get out."

"I'm serious, anyone could walk on you, I just did!"

"Coriolanus I swear if you don't leave-"

"You're insane, don't you have any dec-" But his words were cut off by Sejanus pushing him out and slamming the door in his face, locking it. You could still hear him complain behind the door but Sejanus sighed and went back on his knees in front of you as if nothing happened.

"Right. So where were we?"

Hey, I'm a member of the church and enby. It's been rough ever since I came out. I'm still a teen, but all the talk about being sealed in the temple and God only creating men and women has really been hard. Do you have any advice?

First I'm going to address the idea that God only created men & women and then I'll follow that with some advice.

The Bible states that “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he them; male and female created he them.” (Gen 1:27)

God creates a person and calls it adam, which is Hebrew for “human” or “mankind.” Adam isn’t even necessarily male. 

That the first person created in this story is a ‘human’ or ‘mankind’ is a big clue that this story is allegorical and meant to represent all of us. Adam and Eve are there to teach us lessons about the purposes of life.

One way to think of “male and female” is that these are the two options, God made the male and God made the female and that’s it. However, another way to look at this is one end of a spectrum and the other end of a spectrum, and everything in between, like when we use the first & last letter of the alphabet to mean everything, A to Z, or Alpha & Omega.

Biologists say that the idea of 2 sexes is overly simplistic, that actually it is a spectrum. Whether you’re looking at X & Y chromosomes, at genes, at hormones, at internal or external reproductive organs, or secondary sex characteristics, the reality is not as simple as either M or F.  

Even the other parts of the creation which are presented as a binary are actually bimodal, meaning most incidences are concentrated around two ends of the spectrum but they aren’t the only option. For example, God made day & night, but there’s also sunrises and sunsets. God separated the sky from the water, but the sky has clouds which hold water. Separating the water from the dry land still includes marshes, bogs, & swamps where the water & land are mixed. 

The binaries presented in the creation story are not binaries but spectrums, and are pleasing unto God. Why would we not expand that lesson to include other parts of creation, including people, especially since that fits what we find is the reality? Gender is a spectrum, sexual orientation is a spectrum.

You are not alone, you are not the only one who faces this situation. Thank heavens we have the internet and ability to connect with others. It’s good to find friends who are nonbinary and Mormon because they’ll get you in a way that most others won’t. I’ve found interacting with other queer people really helps me feel better and normal about my own concerns and feelings.

You have claim to two great histories and legacies–LDS & LGBT+. Both the queer community and LDS church, in different ways, teach me about being kind and accepting others.

This church teaches that we’re each entitled to pray and seek revelation and confirmation. You can pray to ask if God loves you, all of you. You can seek confirmation for decisions on your path. Your Heavenly Parents love you as you are and for who you are. You are precious to them. Jesus loves you and offers the blessings of the gospel to you. His ministry elevates those who are on the margins.

We are that we might have joy! That is a beautiful teaching. Find joy. Take steps towards it.

Go slowly, or rather, I mean, at your own pace. You don’t have to run faster than you want as you’re figuring things out. In fact, I hope you can think of this as an opportunity for deeper happiness and more joy and meaning in your life. People who fit the binary have handed to them in what ways they should seek meaning & happiness, but you get to explore and learn much of this on your own.

Mormons have a lot of expectations regarding dress and appearance, but it’s okay to do things your own way. Want a short haircut, fine. Want to dye your hair blue, terrific. Want to wear pants, okay. Want to wear colorful shirts, do it. Want to wear bow ties & suspenders, perfect. Clothes are an example that much of gender is a social construct, clothes are not inherently gendered. If you don't fit the gender norms don't feel obligated to stick to the gender constructs.

I suspect 2nd hour is most troubling as it’s when Mormons segregate by gender. It’s okay to skip and spend time on the couch or take a walk around the building. If Sunday School is about a topic that is causing you stress, I don’t think forcing yourself to sit there uncomfortable is going to yield a lot of benefit. Don’t let the good you could be getting be swamped by the negative, find ways to remove or minimize those things that cause you trouble. Recognize it’s going to be complicated and frustrating.

Even things in the gospel that seem simple to others can be difficult for queer people. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore that feeling. In those situations I ask myself these 3 questions — “Does that sound like me, do I resemble that remark?” — “Does this sound like the God that I know?” — “Does this fit with the great commandment to love one another?”

Being a nonbinary Latter-day Saint often means hungering, aching to the depths of your soul, just to be acknowledged, to have any of our theology reference you at all. One small thing you can do at church is simply saying 'a child of God' instead of 'a son or daughter of God.' Instead of praying, “Dear Heavenly Father,” try saying “Dear God” as a gender-neutral title.

When someone figures out they're nonbinary, things shift in ways they may not have anticipated. Be curious about yourself. For example, maybe you hated shopping for clothes, but actually maybe you just hated shopping only in the men's or the women's section because that's very limiting. Now the whole store is open, perhaps clothes shopping can be enjoyable as you get to express your gender in what you wear.

None of us comes forth from the womb fully-formed—we all grow, transform, and become. Those who are nonbinary get to do it in unique ways and I hope you, and those around you, appreciate the wonderful journey it is. Being nonbinary is not a mistake, it is not good or bad, it just is. You choose whether it’ll be a blessing or a curse in your life.

I first read these stories on LiveJournal back in 2013, some time after I first encountered Tumblr, Supernatural, and the wider world of online fandom. Once I discovered SPNxCriminal Minds crossovers I devoured so many of them. Something about POV Outsider on the Winchesters, the existing connections with investigating monster vs human-crazy cases, and run-ins with the FBI... it's just works so well.

Of all the SPNxCM fics I read and enjoyed, All The King's Horses is among those that bookmarked themselves in my brain. Since it's been living there all these years, I thought it deserved a place on my bookshelf too.

Sourcing the Fic

I used FicHub to download the fics off of Fanfiction.net as HTML. Then I pasted them into LibreOffice Writer and created rich text documents of each fic, so I could Place them into Affinity Publisher.

The stories were crossposted, first on LiveJournal and then Fanfiction. I included the metadata from both sites in the appendices.

(It's fascinating to see the differences in the same work between platforms. FFN requires genres, so if the author doesn't add them on LJ then by default there's more info on FFN. But FFN limits listed characters to 2, so authors have to pick and choose the most important. Then there's the author's amusing disclaimers and spoiler warnings for these fics, which are only included in the LJ version)

Shoutout to the author for how they linked/listed their accounts on other platforms! Thanks to that I was easily able to track down all the tags/metadata for the fics, and find them here to express my appreciation for their stories!

Typesetting

Fonts

EB Garamond is my new favourite body font, 11pt as per my usual.

The title page is entirely Arial: 1) it was the closest match I have to the case file prop I was copying, and 2) if it was a government doc they wouldn't be using anything but the most basic fonts.

Headings and the the bullets bracketing the page numbers are set it Supernatural Knight, a free font in the style of Supernatural's title.

The location segments are in D-DIN, the closest free match to the font Criminal Minds uses (which is probably DIN).

Daniel is used for Dean's 'rushed but legible' note.

Permanent Marker for the 'thick black Sharpie' case file labels.

Artwork

Title pages designed as FBI case files, copied from a prop found online (specifically Etsy's propfictionstudios', but it's all over the web so no idea who actually created it). I had fun plugging in all the fanfic/bookbinding meta!

The ID# above the author's name is the FFN story ID, and the date is the date originally posted on LJ.

The handprint used in the headings of ATKH is Dean's scar. I traced off of a screenshot from s4e01 Lazarus Rising. I chose to use the handprint instead of the anti-possession tattoo or a Devil's Trap as my SPN art element because 1) it's specific to Dean, and 2) indicates/reminds that the story is not set during the season 3 Agent Henriksen/FBI arc.

Construction

Both fics typeset and printed separately, then sewn together into one book. Title page for the sequel was tipped in like an endpaper prior to sewing.

Endbands sewn with orange embroidery floss (DMC 721) around 1.9mm cording. I chose orange because Dean's being in jail brought to mind the orange prison jumpsuits Sam and Dean wore in s1e19 Folsom Prison Blues.

Black bookcloth for the cover, like the Winchesters' beloved black '67 Chevy Impala. (I'd wanted a Supernatural reference to balance out the Criminal Minds-ness of the FBI case files).

I'd originally planned to make lineart of the front of the car, and have it stretch across the bottom of the cover (maybe even wrap around to the back). Even found a useful reference to trace [from here], but it didn't look as good as I'd hoped. Instead I reused the FBI seal and swapped out its text with the titles.

(The effect of shiny foiled FBI symbol on small black book reminds me of one of those FBI badge wallets!)

The foiling process was an unnecessarily long and gruelling affair. My laptop served as a massive power bank for the hot foil pen as I spent 2hrs ever so slowly tracing the image, and then 15mins on the author name and touch-ups. Did it need to take so long? Moving slowly, pushing down hard, going over everything at least three times? I'm sure it didn't. BUT I did not want to chance peeling up the foil to check how I was doing and risk shifting it. It was worth it in my books (haha) ‒ I feel giddy and kick my feet like a schoolgirl whenever I see it!

New Things

Used 24lb paper for the first time, and I love it! It's a little thicker and heavier then regular 20lb printer paper, feels more substantial.

The page numbers & running/section headers are along the outer margin, instead of in the header/footer. This was my way around Affinity's buggy-ness regarding pinning things inline in master pages. (More about that below). If I had been thinking, I could have formatted them like the tabs on a file folder and cut the textblock to match. Oh well, the things you notice once it's printed 😔

This time I also started new chapters/sections using text flow & paragraph spacing settings, instead of using a master. As always, there are pros and cons.

Pro: much faster and less involved. (find chapter start, apply paragraph style VS working from the end cutting text, inserting a frame break, unlinking frames, inserting new pages with master, relinking, pasting, and adding chapter title to a different text box)

Con: images need to be added manually (whether by adding image directly, or by applying a master with the image). I forgot to do this for the second fic, so only ATKH have Dean's handprint scar.

Difficulties Encountered

Affinity Publisher is fighting me on pinning things inline on master pages. They like to disappear on regular pages I've applied the master to. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it only works on some of the pages. Idk what's up. (The bullet character only faces one way so I had use textboxes, flip/mirror one, and pin them inline to the page number).

So instead of having page numbers in the footer, bookended left and right by text boxes with Supernatural Knight's bullet, I put it vertically down the side.

Updated Publisher and all my paragraph styles' fonts changed/went funny. Something to do with the update's variable font support, I think. UM. what a weird first actual post for my blog for this year... this is long, and i miss making ACTUAL blog posts instead of small threads... And i've explained on my twitter my thoughts on Hazbin / Helluva from a critical standpoint and artist from art separation, yadda yadda yadda---

ANYWAY... Episodes 1 and 2 of Hazbin are (Officially) out now, and i have some thoughts on the characters i wrote down after watching (In bullet points, because most of these are fresh-from-the-brain thoughts i wrote on my tablet from my bed)

CHARLIE NOTES

-Charlie is good., Charlie is cute, but i fear for her safety, not everyone can new redeemed. she's like steven universe at points i stg 😭 (not a jab but i think it's funny)

-i like how they gave Charlie bags under her eyes a lot, she is a tired princess just like all of us

-She gives off elementary school teacher vibes but in a wholesome way

It stood out, the red envelope. All of your mail scattered about on the table in different shapes of white paper, save for the parchment from friends. It reminded you of the holiday cards you'd get from estranged family while at school. There wasn't a holiday near though, or an address on the card.

There was almost an eerie feeling to open it, like the moment you did something would change. It was sealed with wax, more a wizarding thing than not, making the feeling grow more.

It snapped easily, thankfully. Small chips of gold wax falling onto the table as you carefully pulled the small parchment out. You recoginzed the hand writing almost instantly from days of stealing notes in class. The ink was harsh, almost as if it was meticulusly used, every stroke thought out for longer than the ink could stay wet.

"Your eyes shine like the stars in the sky

making it easy to find one self lost

you are much more within my eye

making me wonder if you would do the most and be mine?"

A poem? You think aloud, chuckling slighty at the horrid attempt of rhyming from your friend. It took a moment before you took in the meaning of it, backtracking to the last two words once again. "Be mine?" Your eyes squinted, trying to make perfectly sure it was the writing of Neville Longbottom, not willing to fall for a prank from a particular set of twins this far out of school.

You couldn't be more sure, ages spent looking at the parchment assured you. You found yourself in a daze, not thinking about your next moves until you were face to face with the all too familar door.

"Hi." Neville spoke, face redder than it was when he first opened the door. "I'm sorry."

"You're sorry?" You frowned, walking past him, entering his house without hestiation.

Neville followed behind, shutting the door quietly before trailing you, standing awkwardly in front of you as you stopped. He took a seat at the table, putting his head in his hands before muttering something under his breathe.

"Why are you sorry?" You asked once again, standing in front of him as he peared up at you slightly.

"I shouldn't have done it, especially like that."

'Why? Was it a joke?" You could feel tears starting to well in your eyes at the idea of it being some sort of prank, something to try and trick you into being vunerable.

"No." He said rather loudly, his own eyes wide at the mere thought of it. He stood up, making it so you two were standing scarily close and taking a deep breathe before he spoke. "I'm in love with you, the question wasn't a joke. I'm just." He trailed off, countless emotions filling his eyes.

"Bad at poems?" You chuckled slighlty.

"Really bad, but Hermione assured me you'd like it." He responded, voice lighthearted, mimicking your own.

You couldn't think of any words to fill the space settling around the two of you, the tension was thick, as if both of you were waiting for the final pin to drop. Instead of trying to ramble your way out, you took the route of sheer impuslive confidence.

Without another thought, you reached up and grabbed the dark collar of Nevilles shirt, pulling him towards you just enough that you could place your lips onto his. It barely took him a second before he caught on, taking his hands and placing both onto your face carefully.

His lips were soft, not shocking seeing how well the man takes care of every other aspect of his life. Even with the confidence in his movements, you could feel the slight quiver in his lips out of nervousness. It didn't bother you and he didn't seem to care, his face flushed with a wide smile as you pulled apart for air.

The matching look on your own face was all it took for him to pull you right back in, not that you were going to complain.

okay. that's fine. embarrassing!!! but fine. whatever. we move on. he's cool! you're friends! let's keep going. at the end of 2020, you run into him again in the sofia quarterfinals, where you take the first set and then he destroys you again. with a breadstick to really rub it in. he goes on and wins the whole thing, which means he wrecked you on his way to his first-ever atp title. fine! okay. whatever.

it is 2021. you don't see him again, which is just as well, because you have a soaring high and then a terrible low (string of r1/r2 losses). you drop to 34th in the world; meanwhile, jannik sinner has spent the year going from 37th to cracking the top 10. things are not looking great.

in 2022, you make it to the third round of the auso for the first time, where you meet—guess who—jannik sinner. again. you're starting to get really tired of this guy. he knocks you out of your home slam. thankfully you have a relatively successful year afterwards, climbing back up the ranks.

it's 2023! this will be your year, surely. you kick it off by winning your first 500. the sunshine double doesn't go great but you do brilliantly at queen's club and los cabos, only losing in the finals to top 10 players. then.... Canada.

you beat fritz. you beat medvedev. you make it to the final of a 1000 for the first time! and then jannik sinner is there in all his ginger glory, and, well. you know how this is going to go. bye-bye first 1000 title, hello increasingly miserable h2h. you start wondering if you're going to be there for all of this guy's career-defining wins. you start wondering why the hell it had to be you specifically. this is getting ridiculous. because now it's 2024 and he won the whole entire australian open and then to really seal in the whole thing he had to go and beat you, specifically in rotterdam to make some more history.

and like, you guys are friends. pretty good friends, actually. you played doubles once and it was hilarious!! but also, consistent and absolute annihilation??? seriously???

in summary i find their friendship absolutely mindbending. alex de minaur you must be the nicest person ever because personally if someone did me like this i would spend my entire life trying to blow them up with my mind
