Not really a question. I just find it fascinating that the mother of my cat was a purebred Ragdoll but none of the genetics really carried over. (Except maybe the fur texture? She has very thin whispy soft fur)

Her father was a random domestic shorthair. All kittens were black and white.

The fun thing is that in terms of color genetics, the only difference between your cat and this ragdoll:

is that the latter is pointed.

See it in genotypes:

your cat (black with white): aa B_ Ccs D_ oo wsw

ragdoll above (seal mitted): aa B_ cscs D_ oo wsw

And point is recessive, so if the father didn't carry it (and i have to assume most randombreds don't), then the full color kittens are absolutely expected.

(Same with long hair; this also means your cat carries both traits and they could come back again in the next generation.)

Another interesting phenomenon you can see here is how quickly the white spotting randomizes.

Ragdolls are strictly bred in three white spotting categories: no white (see below, left), mitted (see above) and bicolour (see below, right).

Both mitted and bicolour have very rigid definitions: mitted has white socks and white chin, with no other white on the face (except maybe a thin blaze); bicolour has a big, symmetric, pure white triangle on the face.

You cat doesn't conform to either of these: too much for mitted, too little for bicolour. All the modifiers the ragdoll breeders were carefully selecting for are lost in one single generation!

Listen guys I know I will never be much good* (or even enjoy, tbh) calligraphy, but my mother-in-law keeps giving me old “the basics of calligraphy!!” sets that she finds at goodwill that obviously someone got as a gift in the 90s and never even opened and I enjoy collecting the inks and tiny ceramic bowls and inkstones so, so much ☺️

*this isn’t poor self esteem btw this is clear eyed & serene knowledge of where my skills lay and the answer to that is in art forms that do not require steady hands and good spatial awareness. I like digital art and fiber crafts lmao.
