It's not a mistranslation and it's definitely not discourse if we're correcting someone. Many non-muslims will use Allah in order to intentionally differentiate Allah from the God of Abraham, but when muslims use it, it's because it's the correct, divine name, the name used in the Qur'an, and to differentiate between religion.
