Great Ocean Road Day 2

Today was very much about the famous sights on the GOR, in particular the 12 Apostles. However, when I did this before as part of a tour we really only7 got to see Loch Ard Gorge and the 12 Apostles so this time was the opportunity to see ALL the main sights and travelling from east to west was also much better given that the sights improved as we went along.

Starting from Apollo Bay this morning we started our westward journey with a trip to Cape Otway National Park to see the lighthouse primarily - not fantastic as we couldn't get close but we were rewarded by seeing both kangaroos who bounced out in front of us and a red fox - even if they are trying to kill them in the area. Then it was on to Castle Cover lookout for some great initially scenery, then the big sights loomed into view.

The first we went to was Gibson Steps, 88 of the blighters which took us down to the beach from where we could see the Apostles temptingly in the background. The climb up and down was well worth it and provided a great start to the 12 Apostles which followed. As before I find these stacks stunning and the day was clear and bright, although very windy. Despite the carpark being pretty full the area wasn't as busy as I expected and we were able to get some great shots.

We then moved on to Loch Ard Gorge, which sadly is shut so we couldn't go down onto the beach as I've done before but we did get to see the Razorback rocks and Island Arch. I hadn't appreciated just how may shipwrecks had occurred along this single stretch of coast but I'm not surprised judging by both the wind and the shallow lying rocks extending well out to sea. It is easy to see just how the ships got pushed onto the rocks to their doom.

Our next place to visit was London Bridge - doesn't really look like it but I can see why it is named this and then The Grotto. This was a real find....again a short walk and steps and we just expected to go down to see more rocks but there was a fab archway and pool with bright blue water and was a real gem of a find. We then stopped briefly at both the Bay of Martyrs and Bay of Islands before making our way to our overnight accommodation in Warnambool.

Having checked in we set off again to a couple of more local sights, this time Stingray Bay, stunningly beautiful waves and Logans Beach where paragliding was taking place and then we headed to Tower Hill wildlife reserve where I was rewarded with my first koala sighting, though the pictures weren't good.

During the day we also saw some lovely birds, in particular the Australian Kin parrots (female has the green head), honeyeaters and many seabirds which I can't identify. Great day but I am now sunburned!

the beach! the one not ridden by tourists. it was windy and there were Massive waves it was awesome? and the water was super warm too i was kinda surprised about that lol. gorgeous skies too!

we also found a skeleton, maybe a fox that fell into the sea and got washed up on the shore? i took one of its teeth since the skull and a lot of it was smashed up, i need to properly clean it still tho. might make a necklace out of it if it's not too small for that

went to the lighthouse island/islet after the beach. there were boats!

we didn't go to the lighthouse bc parking there wasn't happening but we went to the rocks nearby it. smooth boyos, we had to go barefoot to avoid slipping around in our flip flops

the sun was starting to set, or it was like a few hours from setting, but yeah the view was gorgeous and the horizon was vast and i felt alive

we drove to another islet to check out the rocky beach there. it was the high tide so the shore was consumed by the sea lol but it was still lovely out there. it was drizzling a bit too it was rly refreshing actually

here's the (presumed fox) tooth and also another piece my sister found that i took with me. woo bones!

while driving home today the cows near our summerplace were out and about by the road so i snapped a couple pics of them bc bro there were so many?? man

also we visited a small local wildlife museum! lots of taxidermied animals, and bugs! dead ones, but i should've taken pics of them now that i think about it. oh well here's a haikara (i forget what it's called in english)

and finally here's a fucked up basement i spotted at a clothes store in another old city. it looked fucking haunted lmao

overall a good trip! we had fun and i got to visit a town i had never been to before which is always cool :)

I am repeatedly impressed with the exploration aspect of The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos. 

I feel like I find something interesting in most places I look. I don’t find something every single time, but I do often enough to make it worthwhile.

For example, a quest I was doing at small fishing community on one of the island’s many coasts told me to swim right from the beach to find a missing person.

So of course I swim left because that’s how I play games, and what I find is a hidden sea cave that doesn’t show up in the map of the island you can buy at the city, and which was populated by undead led by a lich. There was also a whole dark temple containing scrolls for some of the most powerful spells in these games, Summon Demon and Wave of Death.

The following day I was at an entirely different coast and, just to see what happens, I decided to swim to an island I could see just at the edge of my view range. This led to me discovering an abandoned lighthouse where I found, among other things, a suspicious cleaver with a name engraved on it. The third of its kind I find while exploring, each with a different name. Mysterious.

Later during that same session I noticed that some of the rubble next to a mine entrance looked like I could climb it (the game has a really free-form climbing system that I wish more games had), so I decided to do that just to see if I could.

It turns out that the rarest plant in the game was growing on a ledge right over the mine entrance and this was the only way to reach it.

And this is just a handful of extremely recent and particularly noteworthy examples. The whole game is like  this and I can feel an intense attention to detail in this and other aspects of the game.
