These images show the results of my casting… I am happy the mold was successful and that my “Lady of Many Faces” (working title) made it - she is cast in tin. . I have a lot of cleaning up to do on it and look forward to learning the processes … Because it is a set of processes that I need to learn now. . I hope to have more images later in the week after I get back to the studio. . After deinstallation of my exhibition with April M Rimpo last week, I have been busy but also trying to slow down while following up on post-show activities like video making..., and even into the studio… . What we don’t often post about is how exhausting it is despite it being very worth it! I am catching my breath and taking care of all kinds of life things that took a backseat for the last few months. Whew! . I am definitely looking forward to upcoming receptions and especially lots of studio time! 75 years ago today over 100,000 troups left Britian to go to the beaches of Normandy and DDay. They travelled in 5000 boats and were parachuted in from over 12000 flyovers. This time last year Im roughing out a sculpture designed by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. Honestly. Can you see the little plastic reference skull in its eye socket? I did the clay sculpting on this for 3deye where it was then moulded, cast and painted for a 54 sculpture exhibition in New York called the Project Zero and La Mer Wave Walk. The sculpture is called Human Tide. One of my 2017 highlights. Being asked to do the maquette and full sized clay sculpture of an Octopus inside a rolling wave designed by the Guns and Roses guitarist Slash for the Project Zero and LaMer Wave Walk sculpture trail. One of a group of 30+ individual sculptures created at 3deye studio and displayed across New York for the World Oceans Day conference at the United Nations and on through June/July 2017 raising awareness of Project Zeros Ocean Conservation projects. First pull of the dragon latex costume body section from the plaster 2 piece mould. Carved from polystyrene, moulded in plaster and cast from cotton reinforced latex by hand. A gigantic mould made by an amateur (me). Theres a cautionary tale here about the wisdom of melting polystyrene out of a plaster mould with hot air guns and acetone but i wont go into it.
