The Undying and Everliving

One could relate Shelby to a phoenix, after all she was reborn into what she saw as something better. One could replace that disgusting sculk with the bright feathers of a phoenix, turn her into someone honorable, but that isn't Shelby, is it?

Shelby's rebirth never came at the price of her own life, she took a life from another and for that her rebirth was much more sickly, much more unlively. She took the cowards way out and run until she couldn't see the light anymore, and as she ran, digging a deeper grave for herself, the sweet great witch went farther from the path of good.

From helping to haunting, from kind to vengeful, she found people that spoke fluently in such darkness and pulled her in further. People who masked as people more trustworthy, pulled at her rage, and allowed her to get some of her vengeance.

And throughout this she felt good in those moments, and yet after it all caught up. Somehow the joy grew thinner and thinner as the guilt swallowed her whole dragging her to the path more confusing than dark and light. As she advanced the path looking for guidance she found it, I suppose. Although those drowning in darkness don't tend to help those looking for the light.

And in the end she did it, she found her place, not among the lights and flame of the undying phoenix, but rather among the darkness and decay of the everliving sculk.

and when katherine did have the chance and motivation to just kill shelby she couldn't, no, she still saw the humanity in her locking shelby up. some would argue that solution was worse, but i can't help but feel it was made out of mercy for shelby

Well since you asked and I’m curious to know. What are your nature wives headcanons?

RAHRAHRAHRAH— TYY

1. THEY’RE MARRIED!! U can’t convince me otherwise.

2. Shelby sometimes has nightmares about the sculk and what is did to her, they’re scared that it might happen again. Katherine always helps her through it.

Shelby sleep deprives herself sometimes and Katherine will just find Shelby clinging on to consciousness with every Fiber of their being at like 3AM and is like “moonlight, when was the last time you slept?” And they just mumble incoherently that she has no idea and Katherine takes her to bed while they try to protest that they’re “not tired”

6. Katherine only figured out her feelings (and lesbianism) when Shelby got sculk-afied. Katherine thought that she had lost Shelby entirely and that she’d never see them again, so when she realised her feelings she felt so guilty that she’d rejected Shelby at the festival.

7. One of the reasons it took so long for Katherine to figure out that A) she loved Shelby romantically, and B) she liked girls, was because she was isolated from the rest of her ppl from a young age because of her curse; so she never rlly knew what loves actually felt like (also bc her parents never rlly loved her soo…) especially romantic love.

8. Was LITERALLY THE MOST CONCERNED PERSON ON THE SERVER about Shelby. (SORRY FOR GOING ON AND ON ABT SCULKBY NATURE WIVES ANGST IT HAS SO MANY POSSIBILITIES)

Hey, just quick idea, with Empires coming to a close soon, wouldn't it be funny if Sculk!Shelby (Sculkby) didn't get uncorrupted at the end of her finale?

idly wondering why being gay for corrupted gem vs being gay for sculkby hits different and came up with this

corrupted gem is very cool and baddass and all and yes her burning down everyone who's ever wronged her is hot (literally), but at the end of the day she is taking orders from Just Some Guy (xornoth)

the consciousness of the sculk is debatable, i've seen good headcanons from both sides (it is sentient enough to plan and stratagise vs it's just a parasite who's only goal is to spread unthinkingly) but either way it isn't necessarily giving out orders, it just makes shelby want to spread it and she decided the best way to do that was to Go Fucking Nuts which is significantly hotter girlies when they're absolutely deranged <3

also sculkby was canonically topless for a good while and corrupted gem could never pull that off sorry not sorry

Great Witch Shelby (lesser witch, wanted witch, criminal) is testing out spells to see what her speciality is, unfortunately they mess up a time spell and are sent back 1000 years to the prime of the Old Empires that he's read in books.

Greeted by Count Fwhip Grim of the Grimlands, she's thrown into the middle of a war with the CodFather (No one has told them his name, and the history books never said it either).

Shelby encounters Grand Wizard Grim, who tells him to call her Gem, and they start to think the books about Wizard vs Witch was wrong; the Grand Wizard doesnt seem to want to hurt her, so how right was the academy?

Alongside dealing with a demon overlord who knows she doesnt belong in this time line, she's greeted by Fae Queen Katherine and the last Gnome of the Land Shrub. Unlucky for Shelby, the Fae Queen gets rather close and personal, and the gnome doesnt like that .

Will Shelby be able to keep the Grimlands from self-destruction and help take down a demon? Can he even get back to their timeline, or will they be lost to time like the Old Emperors had been?

"I see [My] reflection in your eyes" is from Fwhip's pov but [My] is for Gem in actuality (He sees Gem in Shelby, with the magic and the need to constantly do something)

Shelby uses all pronouns in this au, Shrub uses they/them!

This au has hints of e2 Nature wives with the primary of e1 Nature wives! Shrub & Katherine are in an established relationship while Shelby is still crushing on Katherine

This starts before the sculkby timeline in canon!!

Gem & Fwhip are vampires.

This also has hints of flower husbands and rose husbands but its in the background so not really dominant

Ever think about how Katherine was born to be a monster slayer. Ever think about as nice as she can be, as merciful as she is, she is still a princess who was born to be ruthless to those who hurt her people.

Ever think about how Shelby was born to be gentle. How Shelby was born to be nice and against all odds went against the Witches society because she disagreed. How despite it all, despite subcoming to the sculk, she never directly hurt Katherine or her kingdom. How despite being corrupt and this thing thag should be a monster, she pulled a relatively harmless prank on Katherine because at the end of the day she's not a monster. Ever think that at the end of the day Shelby was misguided and is simply gentle and kind and accepting and has always been this way, even while corrupt.

Ever think about how Katherine knew Shelby was inheretly evil. How Katherine gave Shelby a second chance because she saw Shelby for who she was: Kind and Gentle, not how Joey sees Shelby: Ruthless and vile. Ever think that Katherine only saw Shelby as someone who wanted to help and didnt see her curse as her issue, that Shelby never blamed Katherine for her curse. Ever think that Katherine didnt kill Sculkby because she knew the kind & gentle soul she loves was still there, just needed the same help that Shelby had offered to her previously.

New I see [My] Reflection in your eyes developmeny!!

Shelby literally rewrites history, so much so that the Crystal Cliffs and Grimlands still live in s2. Count Fwhip and Grand Wizard Gem have mastered transformation and now live as "Familars" in the Evermoore. Tortiose is Shelby's real familar, but everyone assumes Shelby's just a strong witch with three. Fwhip goes by "Count" in his "familar" form, while Shelby lies and tells everyone that her familar-cat is named Gem because of her eyes, not because of the Sun Princess.

Fwhip's form is a bat, while Gem's is a calico cat with more orange and white than browns and black.

The familars can talk but they only do so when theyre alone w Shelby.

Witches & Wizards get along after the history-fix, and theres two rumours of 1) A time travelling witch who lived between the Crystal Cliffs and the Grimlands, and 2) That the timetravelling witch was Grand Wizard Grim's apprentice (half-truth)

Gnomes can be seen every now again, after being found 500 years post s1 timeline. The Overgrown became GlimmerGrove and was never cursed.

Shelby is covinced Kat will choose Joey now that she isnt cursed.

The Sculkby arc happens different (will be in teal when I get there)

Tortiose's vc will be Grian in the sense that he's like Count & Gem, a human who can transform into an animal. (Tortiose doesnt look like Grian, its just the voice claim in this au)

s1 Joel is s2 Joel. They are the same person, Joel knows who Shelby is, who "Count" is, and the truth of Gem The Calico. Not his secrets to tell though.

Shelby wears the Xornoth Crystal, which begins to absorb the magic of sculk – no one realizes before its too late for Shelby. When She's corrupted, its like a haze for her. He doesnt remember what he does under the corruption, but everyone else does. The arc is longer, and still ended by Sausage stopping them but he's helped by Count and Gem The Calico. They tell him everything from Shelby rewriting history to the crystal corrupting them.

The overall timeline for this au is as so:

s2 takes place over 4 years. One of these years, Shelby goes missing and history is literally changed. The year after is when Shelby's corrupted (He's corrupted in December of the first year, Back To December (Taylors Version) is the song for Nature Wives (s2) in this au for multiple reasons that Ill explain in pink)

The last two years are with Shelby fixing themself and healing from corruption – this also leads to Nature Wives going on their coffee date. Rather than 10 years post s2, wcsmp would take place 6 years later:). Shelby's 18 at the start of this au, and 22 by the end!!

Back To December TV:

The Princess Tea Party takes place mid-december and Shelby's corrupted earlier that month. She's still corrupt by the time of the party, and it still leads to the canon "fight" between her and Katherine. at this time, Shelby still has half of his mind intact and thats why hes so confused and doesnt know what to do anymore. When Katherine offers help, its Sculked-Xornoth who leaks out and into Shelby's voice about "You cant even help yourself!"

Fast forward to Late December of the next year. Shelby's no longer corrupted and his hair is white now. They stand at the Glimmer Grove castle after a year of avoidance and one-sided hatred from them. (Both have been avoiding each other, Shelby's onesided hatred was unknown to Kat but known to them)

January of the third year is when they go on their coffee date.
