"You okay?"
Peter looked up at the kid wearing a domino mask.
"Okay, kind of dumb question, but can you move? I don't think you want to be there if Klarion's next portal summons a monster."
"Who's Klarion?" Peter asked, confused.
"That," said the boy who on closer inspections was wearing...a really weird outfit and cape with a stylized R on the chest. He was pointing to what looked to be a floating kid in a school uniform with pale, almost blue skin and hair styled into horns. 'Klarion' was laughing as space and time seemed to rend around him.
"Okay, and what does Klarion want?" Peter asked, almost afraid to know.
"Chaos." Cape Boy said grimly. "No other goals. That's why we got you through a portal too, even though you're a hero."
"How do you know I'm a hero?" Not that it didn't feel good to be called that, but Cape Kid (Better, that one had alliteration) seemed to be putting a lot of faith in someone who fell through a random portal.
"You can see through the portals right before something falls out." Cape Kid point to one that now showed a stormy seas. "So we saw you saving that lady before you fell through. Awesome flip by the way. Can you teach me it? My older brother is an acrobat and I'd love to be able to show him up."
"Sorry," Peter apologized. "It's kind of something I can only do because of my mutati-" His Spider sense screamed and on instinct he grabbed Cape Kid and pulled him out of the way of a massive tentacle that slammed out of the sea-scape.
"ROBIN!" a voice called out.
"I'm okay B," Caped Kid, er Robin called out (guess that was what the R was for). "Portal Friend pulled me out of the way."
A man dressed in all in black landed next to them. For all the eared cowl and cape should have looked silly, this man carried it as intimidating. "Thank you. Your name?"
"Spiderman". It was impossible to see through the cowl, but Peter got the sense of an unimpressed eyebrow raised.
"It's no worse that Batman," Robin chided.
"It's not about the name. It's about the fact that he's trying to carry himself as an adult when he's clearly around your age."
What. The. F-.
"What are you talking about?" Peter tried to bluff. Sure he wasn't the tallest. But with the added muscle he looked more like a short adult than a teenager, right?
"You're in High School. Not even a senior." Batman said with absolute certainty.
Maybe he was psychic or something? Peter deflated.
"You're a teenager trying to carry yourself as an adult and you were fighting alone." It sounded like that that bit was what was upsetting him.
"Well, no one else knows I'm a teenager." Peter said nervously. "Most teenagers can't pick up cars." Not could most adults, but that was besides the point. "So any other heroes in NYC think I'm an adult too."
"Hn,"
"B says they're idiots," Robin translated cheerfully.
"Robin," Batman's tone held warning.
"Am I wrong?" Robin asked cheekily
"We need to focus on the matter at hand."
"That means I'm right," Robin stage whispered.
Peter couldn't help himself, he grinned. "So how can I help?"
"If you can keep Klarion distracted, I should be able to help Zatana get into place to stop the portals."
Peter grinned. "Oh don't worry, I can be very distracting."
~
"That was hilarious," Robin was almost bent in two laughing.
"Thank you, thank you." Peter mock bowed. "Man, Nightwing is going to be sorry he missed this. Oh Man, when you shot that web right in his face, gluing his mouth shut when he was gloating? That was great. Or when your asked what they were feeling him at the Victorian orphanage to turn his skin blue, and implied he just came out because he had the munchies-"
"Have you eaten?" Batman asked, ignoring Robin.
"Sorry?" the question took Peter off guard.
"Your suit was already scuffed when you arrived, so you'd either already been in a fight or at the end of a long patrol. You kept up a lot of high-energy movement and a powers like yours usually come with an increase in caloric needs. Have you eaten?" Batman repeated.
Peter's stomach answered for him with a low rumble.
"Hn."
"Batburger," Robin asked hopefully.
"No."
"...It's because of the fries, isn't it."
"You need to eat healthier."
"It's totally because of the fries." Robin nodded to himself.
"The fries?" Peter asked, confused.
"So this guy go the idea to open up a fast food burger place themed after Gotham's local vigilantes. The food pretty good for what it is, but recently they added a new option to the menu, seasoned fried with a spicy kick. But they called it Jokerizing the fries, and B is upset because he thinks it's trivializing what the Joker's victims go through."
Peter had no idea who the Joker was, but was guessing a villain. "...So would you say B's a little salty about the fries?"
Batman just looked to the smog filled sky, as if asking why all vigilantes acrobats had the same sense of humor.
"Finger's Deli."
"Yeah sure, their sandwiches are good." Robin shrugged. "What's your usual order?"
Oh, he was talking to him. "A cuban with pickles, squished real flat."
"Squished?' Robin asked. wrinkling his nose.
"It makes it crunchier." Peter defended.
"Stay here," Batman ordered, then fired his grapple gun and flew away. Hmm, maybe that was a feature he could add to his web slingers. "So do we know how I'm getting home?" Peter asked tentatively.
"No worries." Robin assured. "Zatana said everything Klarion pulled through will pop back into it's own reality in the next few hours. Yourself included."
"Cool, cool." So that was his big worry down. "Is Batman, like, your Dad or something?"
"He is." Robin confirmed "Not supposed to admit it, but it's kinda obvious. Like everyone assumes it anyways?"
"I can't imagine fighting crime with my un- a relative."
"Problems with your Dad?" Robin guessed.
"Not...really? He died when I was little. I don't even really remember him or Mom." Peter confessed.
Robin winced. "Sorry, I forget how often vigilantes are orphans."
"Really?"
"Oh yeah, a lot of us. Including me and my brother and B."
"Um?"
"Adopted." Oh, that made sense. "Yeah, B keeps adopting kids who remind him of himself and then wonders why we're such drama queens who will go out in costumes to fight crime, including sneaking out if he tries to ban us." Robin laughed. "I can't complain though. Stealing his tires was the best decision I even made."
Peter made a choking noise "What?"
Robin shrugged. "I was young, homeless, and knew I could get top dollar for them. Like enough to keep me fed during winter. He catches me, I hit him with a tire iron because I'm sure I'm either going to juvie or he's going to steal my bones or something, and he just...asks me if I want to eat something. Took me to Batburger."
"Before the fries?"
"Before the fries?" Robin laughed, but it was a melancholy joy. "B's the best thing that ever happened to me. He gave me food and home, and never asked anything in return except for me to live my best life. I decided I wanted to be Robin because...I know what it's like to be that hopeless. And I want to give hope to everyone the way B gave it to me."
"There was a time when I was really afraid we were going to be homeless," Peter admitted. "And I know that's no where as bad as actually being, but..." Where was he going with this? He didn't like thinking of his early days. His disastrous wrestling career that ended in Uncle Ben's Death, trying to go to the Fantastic Four for a job and them telling him he couldn't get paid for being a hero.
Robin snorted. "I was there too, before the actually homeless thing happened. Don't feel like you haven't suffered enough to be at the trauma party because the absolute worst didn't happen. I'm guessing this is better since you have-" he gestured to Spiderman's costume, "-that setup." Pater laughed. "Dude, this outfit is completely scavenged. I sewed it out of old wrestler outfits. Made these," He pulled back his gloves, "out of scavenged metal and my uncles tools. The web fluid...okay I may have 'borrowed' some of what I needed from the high school chemistry department, but I've got a living culture now that just needs upkeep."
"That stuff's alive?" Robin's eyebrows shot up. "Sort of? It's a protean chain, crystalline in shape, but compressed. Once released it decompresses and expands exponentially before drying. Upside it also breaks down on it's own and is environmentally safe." Peter shrugged. "We are doing better though. My Guardian applied for some programs and I got a job. We're doing pretty okay now." Uncle Ben's life insurance had also helped. But there was no way he was counting that. He'd rather be homeless with his Uncle alive.
"I'm glad they applied for those programs. There al a lot of people who are either too proud, or think it's something that will be used against them." Robin said. And there was that melancholy twinge in his tone again. Had his parents refused those same programs before he was orphaned?
"I'm back." Batman interrupted in the same tone he had all night. He had a large plastic bag with him. Had he ordered in costume or changed out and changed back? Was this something he and Robin did often?
He sat down with them, pulled out the sandwich on top and then set it aside. He then pulled out another sandwich and a little side dish cup and handed them to Robin.
"Steamed vegetables?" Robin complained.
"I told you. You need to eat healthier." Batman said simply before handing the remaining bag contents to Peter. Three cubans -squished flat, a fruit cup, mac and cheese, and his own steamed vegetables.
"This is too much," Peter protested.
"It's not, I assure you." Batman paused. "Unless you meant it was too much to eat in one sitting, in which case it hopefully can travel with you when you go back."
"If I have to eat the veggies you do to," said Robin, tearing into his muffuletta.
"You don't even know me..." Peter said, "Why are you being so nice?"
Batman put his pastrami on rye down. He seemed to be cycling through several things to say.
"What does your support look like at home?"
"Like, my legal guardian?" Peter asked, confused.
"Does he know about your alternate identity?"
"She doesn't. She can't. She would blame herself for not figuring it our earlier, and the last thing I want to do is hurt her again. Besides, she's not exactly a fan of Spiderman."
"Friends?"
"Even worse. I had to send my best friend's Dad to jail. He will kill me, maybe literally, if he finds out I'm Spiderman."
"Work friends?" Robin asked, knowing Peter also held a job.
Peter snorted at that. "Don't have any. And even if I did it wouldn't be safe. My boss is the main printer of the articles about how Spiderman's a menace and needs to be hunted down."
Batman was frowning. "Other heroes?"
"Not really close to any. I've done some impromptu team-ups, but I think most of them find me kinda of annoying." Peter admitted.
Batman pinched his nose. "Because they assume you're an adult and picked up on your tones and mannerisms being more like a teenagers and rather than challenge the assumption of your age, decided you were an adult who was immature." he took a deep breath. "Spiderman this kind of life...it isn't one the works if you're by yourself. I was doing this for years before Robin joined me, but back then I had someone behind the scenes, even if he did nothing more than welcome me home at the end of each night. People need support, and that includes you. Whether it's your guardian, a friend of a fellow vigilante, as a human you need someone to lean on. Everyone does."
"And no offense, but it sounds like your civilian life is kind of a toxic echo chamber about your vigilante identity." Robin added. "That can not be good for your psyche."
"It's fine." Peter insisted, stuffing one of the sandwiches in his mouth. Neither Batman or Robin looked like they believed him.
"And maybe they're not wrong. Maybe I am bad at being a hero." Peter said, oddly defensively for someone deriding himself.
"I don't think that's true at all." Batman said gently. "I've barely known you an hour, Spiderman. And in that time you saved an elderly lady from your world, saved Robin, and helped fend off an avatar of Chaos."
"It was a good day." Peter muttered, busying himself with his sandwich.
"I think it's more you're a good person." Batman said kindly.
"Maybe, but that doesn't mean I'm not a screw up."
Batman's smile turned to a frown. "Who told you that?"
Technically lots of people. "Nobody had to."
"I don't believe that." Batman said with full confidence. Which was heartwarming until-
"Was it your Guardian?"
"Aunt May would never!" Peter spat out. "She's kind and so supportive. She's always been there even thought it's my fault-" Peter broke off.
"What's your fault?"
"It's my fault my Uncle's dead." Peter's voice cracked. Robin started to rise to his feet, but Batman stalled him with a raised hand.
"What happened?" Batman asked in his calm and even voice.
"I saw a guy getting robbed and I did nothing. I let it happen. All because the guy who was being robbed was a crook who'd cheated me out of money I'd earned. I thought it was karma. But that thief broke into our house when I wasn't home and he shot him!" Peter felt strangely exposed. He curled in on himself.
"You've never told anyone about this, have you?" Batman said, a statement more than an ask.
Peter shook his head.
Slowly Batman moved to put his hand on his shoulder. "I could tell. Because it seems you've never had anyone tell you it wasn't your fault."
Peter's head shot up. Adrenaline crashed through his body and he wasn't even sure why. "I let the guy go."
"You made a mistake in judgement. But given you had already been cheated by the man being robbed, you also had no way of knowing that first robbery wasn't personal."
"I still should have done something! With great power comes great responsibility." Peter insisted.
"Perhaps. But no amount of responsibility can equate to being omniscient. There was no way you could have foreseen what would happen."
"But....but..."
"Spiderman, when I was just a child myself, there was a movie I wanted to go see. I convinced my parents to take me." Robin moved in, shoulder to shoulder with Batman, reassuring him. "The movie was wonderful, everything I'd hoped. And then on the way home we were mugged. Neither of my parents made it."
Peter's breath caught in his throat.
"I blamed myself for wanting to see the movie and it took a lot of time and a very stubborn old man to help me understand it wasn't my fault. And I'm guessing the only reason no one's told you that is no one know you're blaming yourself. You're not responsible for your Uncle's death any more than I was responsible for my parents. You are a child. You deserve a support system. You deserve people you can open up with all the way. You deserve to not be constantly punishing yourself for giving the wrong person a second chance."
"I know I'm not persuasive enough to make you believe with one talk. And once Klarion's portal reverses I'll not have a chance to talk to you again. So please find someone in your world you can trust. If not your Aunt, another hero. If they're worth the title, they'll help."
"Maybe, I-" Peter cut off as his spider-sense gave a low tingle. "Uhhh, I think something's happening." "You're going back." Batman grabbed the rest of Peter's food and shoved it into his arms. "Tale the food and please talk to someone. You're doing so well and you deserve to have help and support." "I-" Anything Peter was going to say was cut off as Peter suddenly found himself sitting alone on a roof in NYC, the daylight suddenly glaring to eyes that had adjusted to the darkness of Gotham. He was back home. Batman and Robin were gone. He sat down on the roof and almost on auto pilot pulled out one of the sandwiches he was still holding. The paper was oddly deformed, he noticed as he unwrapped it. Almost like it had been-
Batman had squished his sandwiches after buying them. Because the deli hadn't and he'd wanted Peter to have the sandwich he wanted. It was such an Uncle Ben thing to do.
Maybe Batman was that world's Uncle Ben. Maybe Robin was that world's version of him. It was nice to think of that. That somewhere in the multiverse there was a world where he and Ben were in this together. Batman had said there was someone waited for him at home. That world's Aunt May?
He'd said he needed help, that he was allowed to ask for help. And Uncle Ben had never been wrong before.
~
Captain America let out a breath as the last of the Doombots fell. This had been a big one. An all hands on deck, fate-of-NYC. And God above it felt like this was becoming a monthly event. He was looking forward to heading home and taking a good long shower when Spiderman landed next to him.
"Hey Cap, can talk to you? For just a minute?"
As much as he wanted that shower, it was rare to see the cocky and wisecracking Webhead sound insecure. "Certainly. Shall I assume this requires more privacy that an open street?"
"Yeah, that would be good." Spiderman nodded enthusiastically. "We could go to a roof-no you don't have webslingers. That's rude."
Now Cap was getting concerned. Spiderman was acting...very not himself. He lead Spiderman away from the battle to a series of alleys he knew very well. If this was an imposter, he wasn't letting him pick the secondary location and made sure he had an advantage in terrain. Spiderman couldn't get full momentum of his swings here, but he himself could ricochet his shield into a near barrier. "Well?"
"Sorry," Spiderman said after a moment. "I'm trying really hard not to talk myself out of this for a third time."
The third time? Interesting.
He took a deep breath. "My name is Peter. I'm 16 years old. I'm barely keeping my head above water and I need help."

Question... If WS Donnie was in Pokemon, what Pokemon would be in his team?
Alright! I know you sent this a couple days ago, but I've been thinking long and hard about this.
There's so many obvious picks for Donnie in general: Genesect (he literally is the same color scheme as Shelldon), Porygons, Rotom, Tinkaton, Klinklang, the list goes on!
But that's Donnie.
That's not Weak Spot Donnie!
So I pondered... and pondered... and then did what I always do when I'm stumped: I outsourced.
Now @shiftandshade is just a headcanon machine in general, but I had mentioned Espeon is one of my favorite pokemon and people pair it with Donnie, but I wasn't sure about it and they just so happened to return to me with the most incredible backstory, better than anything I could have come up with so let me present Shade's Weak Spot Donnie Pokemon history:
I feel like he met it as an espeon But like it has such a bad attitude with people Like it's a burnt-out empath pokemon someone abandoned so it's jaded as hell, digging around in the trash looking for food, trying to stay away from people but in NYC it's overwhelmed and skittish (cough donnie meltdown cough) Donnie finds it during one of his escapades that require dark alleys, he's hiding from something or someone after a deal gone bad or whatever It's all scuffed up, fur dull and matted, maybe missing a chunk out of its ear from a fight with a rattata But even as grouchy as it is it can feel Donnie is hurting the same way it is and it puts out its little feelers so to speak Comes and noses at him, figures out he's having a panic attack and crawls into his lap He just kind of latches onto it because warm, soft, even if it's kind of dirty and scrawny it's making little purrs and probably doing something Psychic to calm him down He's so distracted with this weird little espeon he almost doesn't notice his attacker coming back but Espeon is getting pets for the first time in forever and is Not Having It, Psywaves this goon into a wall and Donnie books it still holding onto espeon He kinda forgets to put it down but once he's back to his lair/apartment/safehouse whatever he doesn't want to just leave it…it saved his life, it might be useful (yeah that's the only reason) Takes it in and gives it a bath and espeon is like 'you gave me pets and scratches and food I'm adopting you'
My embellishments come with things like: WS!Donnie would find it difficult or not at all catch any of his Pokemon because he knows what its liked to be enslaved. He'd have conscripted all the pidove in the city to be his eyes and ears. In his 20s I imagine he spent a lot of time with the Trubbish line and Grimer line if only because of their retched poisons fit where he was at. Later, more around now time with reader, I could see after chapter 32 that maybe their garden attracted some grass types (an abandoned Snivy perhaps?) or something that likes to steals vegetables. All and all, his Espeon would still be his pride and joy.
That was a great exercise! Thank you so much!

PART 21: “AT LAST”
38 Domestic Terrorists Arrested in Citywide Sting
Federal and state authorities have arrested 38 local members of a domestic terrorist group run out of Queens electrotherapy company Current Relief, Inc.
“Well, here we are.”
Ellen Tapper, FBI, turned her keys in the ignition. They were parked right in front of an apartment building—Jesse’s apartment building. She hadn’t seen this place since she’d been carted away in an ambulance, and that had been over three weeks ago. Jesse stared up from her spot in the passenger’s seat to a window up on the third floor. As usual, Fran’s curtains were drawn.
“Do you see the property manager?” Ellen asked.
Jesse shook her head. “Not yet.”
After the FBI had taken Jesse in a week ago, things had started to fall into place. A coordinated series of arrests had taken out everyone involved in the abductions, and the FBI had assigned Ellen to help Jesse transition back into regular life. Jesse was already in touch with her work, but Ellen had gotten in touch with the property manager of Jesse’s apartment. They had replaced the locks on Jesse and Fran’s apartment—no surprise there—but the outside door had been replaced as well.
Which meant every single apartment needed two new front door keys. Great.
Now it was just a matter of waiting for the property manager to arrive so Jesse could finally go home. So much had happened in the last three week. This place felt like a distant memory. She’d thought plenty about coming back. What would Fran say when he saw her? Did he know what had happened to her?
And what did he think about the rampant destruction of his home?
Jesse sighed and pressed her forehead against the window.
“Oh, there he is,” Ellen said brightly. She unlocked the car; Jesse followed her out. Mark, the bald property manager, was just coming out of the building. As soon as he saw Jesse, his eyes widened.
Jesse swallowed.
“Hi, Mark,” Ellen said. “Ellen Tapper. Thanks so much for meeting us.”
“Sure. You’re Kaplan in 34?” Mark asked Jesse.
Jesse nodded. There was no mistaking Mark’s look. He blamed her for everything. It was clear as anything. If she hadn’t been there, none of this extra work would have been necessary. She scuffed her shoe on the ground. “Sorry about everything.”
“Come on, Jesse, we’ve talked about this,” Ellen cut in.
Mark pressed his lips together a smile that Jesse was certain was forced. “Well, here are the new keys,” he said brusquely. He passed Jesse two keys on a simple keyring. “You lose them, it’s—”
“Fifty dollars, I know,” Jesse said with a sigh. Not that she’d ever lost her keys, but she remembered these things, dammit. But this wasn’t just that Mark was old enough to be her dad. No, it was the judgement, the blame she read on his face. She didn’t want to look at him anymore. She didn’t want to look at him ever again.
Maybe she wouldn’t have to.
Jesse had reached out to cousins in Park Slope, and it turned out their basement apartment was vacant since her great-aunt had been moved to a nursing home. She hadn’t decided yet, but Fran had signed the lease for the new year on his own, which meant Jesse was free to leave or stay.
Well, it was worth seeing how things went.
Jesse grabbed her backpack from Ellen’s car and waved her off. Mark had already left. Jesse paused just outside. She stared into the hallway, heart stuttering. The last time she’d been here…
She shook her head, eyes burning, and unlocked the door. Enough of the moping, enough reminiscing. She needed to move on.
The two-story climb left a distantly familiar burn in her calves. It hadn’t been that long since she’d climbed two flights of stairs, had it? Barely a few weeks.
What a change.
Jesse unlocked her apartment door. She was halfway to her bedroom door before she thought to look around.
The place looked… normal. Weirdly normal. No unconscious goons anywhere. The kitchen was clean, the bathroom too. The coffee table was intact—no, it was new. Jesse stared at it. When her eyes drifted up to the wall over the couch, her stomach lurched. There had once been a wall of photos over the couch, gold and silver frames interspersed with pictures of hers and Fran’s. Now, the wall was blank.
Jesse took a shuddering breath and stumbled to her bedroom door. She flung it open and rushed inside.
She stopped still.
Everything was as it had been right after Bucky had pulled her from the brainwashing. No one had touched a thing. The bed was still perfectly made with hospital corners. Every surface was clear, save a thin coat of dust. Her hands trembled as she pulled off her backpack and set it on the bed. She sat beside it, then curled into a ball against her pillow and tried not to cry.
She did not succeed.
Jesse told Fran the same story she’d told the FBI, minus the details they’d told her not to share. Neither recounting had included her conversations with Bucky, or the evolution—and dissolution—of their relationship. That… that was for herself, alone. And Bucky, she supposed. But she trusted him to keep it to himself. What good would her personal woes do anyone else? She wasn’t famous or important, not like him.
Her relationship with Bucky Barnes aside, by the time she was done, Fran’s eyes were wide as saucers and his hair was standing on end from having been clutched in shock.
“Jesus Christ, Jesse,” he said, shaking his head. “That’s the craziest shit I’ve ever heard. How the hell are you even alive?”
Jesse laughed weakly and shoved her hands between her thighs, shoulders hunched. “Man, I don’t even know.”
“Seriously, though!” Fran shook his head. “That’s crazy.”
“Yeah,” Jesse agreed. “It is.” She sighed and twirled her fork in her spaghetti. “Hey Fran, what happened to the pictures on the wall?”
“Oh, that… A bunch of them were shattered, so I took them all down. I have yours in an envelope, I’ll grab it.” Fran bounced off and returned in less than a minute with a manila envelope. He went back to work on his spaghetti.
Jesse pulled out the pile of photographs and flipped through them. Apart from the pictures of her family, she could barely remember why most of them had ever been on her wall. Had she even seen half these people in the last few months?
She really had been consumed.
A picture from a work event caught her eye. Jesse gazed at the photograph of her colleagues from BCEI—Marilyn, Robin, Zach, the rest. How were they doing? She hadn’t heard much, just a congratulations when she let them know she’d be back tomorrow. Apparently the temp they’d found to replace her was perfectly capable of covering her.
Jesse stuffed the photos back in their envelope.
It was something, to know you were replaceable.

itsadrian: so… what now??
Two hours back at work was enough. After hearing yet again from Marilyn about teaching swing dancing with Bucky Barnes, Jesse had shut herself in the bathroom and cried.
When she finally reemerged, she went straight to Robin’s office to give her two week’s notice. The temp, who was still there to help with Jesse’s transition, was thrilled. Robin and Marilyn less so, but there was nothing else to do. Jesse had been with BCEI for almost three years. After everything, it was time for a change.
A real one this time.
Jesse stuck her hands on her hips as she inspected her bedroom. The drawers on her dressers were all open, and her closet door was flung wide. They all were mostly empty, the former contents taped up in boxes around her bed. Her new phone was charging on her nightstand, which had already been cleared out and boxed away.
Now she just had to decide what she was packing for Israel.
Fran had taken the news of her departure well. He’d apparently been half expecting it. He didn’t seem upset, anyway. And her cousins’ basement apartment was waiting for her stuff—and for her, once she was back from visiting her parents.
She blew the loose hair out of her face and rifled through the sundresses still hanging up. Did she even want to bring any? They were cute, but what did she have to look cute for? Her parents? Jesse rolled her eyes and grabbed the closest one, stuffing it into the suitcase on her bed. Then she sighed and pulled it back out to fold. She didn’t need to deal with her mother chastising her about wrinkles.
“Hey Jesse, I’m heading out,” Fran called.
Jesse nudged her bedroom door open and shot her roommate a smile. “Gym?”
“Yep, the usual,” he said. He finished tying his sneakers and popped to his feet. “When I get back, how do you feel about grabbing dinner? Least I can do for our last night. And I’m going anyway.”
“Oh…” Jesse chewed her lip and glanced back into her room. “I’ve still got so much to do. I don’t want to leave you with a mess even if I am leaving all the furniture for now. You go, have fun.”
“Alright, if you say so,” Fran said. He pulled the door open and gave Jesse a gentle parting smile. “Go easy on yourself, Jess.” The apartment door shut with finality.
“Bye,” Jesse murmured. She sat heavily on her bed and smoothed her folded sundress in the suitcase.
Go easy? What was Fran talking about? She was going easy on herself. She hadn’t thrown herself at Fran’s feet to apologize, she hadn’t offered to pay for the damages to the apartment, she hadn’t carved an apology on her face—
There was a knock at the door.
Jesse froze. Her knuckles whitened as she gripped the side of her suitcase; the air fled her lungs. She opened her mouth, but no sound came out. Had they come back for her?
“Jesse?”
Bucky? Bucky?
Jesse stood on shaking legs and caught herself against her bedroom door.
“Jesse, I know you’re there.”
She pressed a hand to her mouth, vision blurring with sudden tears. As if in a trance, she made her way to the front door. Were those her feet walking?
“Please, I just…” Bucky drew a ragged breath. “Can I come in?”
Jesse unlocked the deadbolt. The click resonated through the apartment, snapping her out of her daze. She stepped back, staring at her hands in shock. The doorknob was still locked. Bucky was still out of sight.
What was he doing here? Did he know she was leaving New York? Why had he come?
After everything, why had he come?
“What are you doing here?” she breathed. Quiet, flat, but loud enough for him, even though she was standing a few feet back from the door.
“I had to see you. Talk to you. Please let me in.”
Jesse shook her head, eyes burning, heart racing. “Bu—” She cut herself off. She didn’t want to say his name.
How could he have come? Didn’t he realize? She knew with all her heart that he’d never meant to hurt her, but how could he have come here knowing what he did? There was no way he didn’t know how much this would hurt her. She’d told him, flat-out, that seeing him, being near him…
No.
How many times had she said goodbye to him? And now he wanted to drag yet another from her? She couldn’t take it.
“I can’t. Please go away.”
“No—wait,” Bucky begged. She heard his hands sliding on the door. “You don’t—you don’t have to let me in. But please, please, I have to say this. Please let me.”
Jesse pressed a hand to her aching heart. She swallowed hard, throat burning.
Please let me?
He was giving her the power, she realized. There he was, Bucky Barnes, superhero, supersoldier, putting himself in her powerless hands. She could turn him away, send him off…
And never hear whatever he was so desperate to tell her.
Did she want that?
Bucky had caused her pain, yes, but not consciously. Not on purpose.
Turning him away now, while he was so clearly distraught, would be a conscious choice. Given how distraught he sounded even through the door, even with the few words he’d said, turning him away would hurt him.
However much he’d hurt her, she couldn’t do the same to him. Not knowingly.
“What is it?” she said at last.
Bucky murmured something she couldn’t quite make out. It might have been thank god, but he cleared his throat before she could ask.
“I’m begging you, if it’s not too late—” he took a shaky breath— “forgive me, Jesse.”
“What?” Jesse stumbled to the door, her hands spread flat on the paneled wood. “What do you mean, forgive you?”
“I’ve been so blind!” His hands slid down, down; Jesse heard his knees hit the floor, heard him bang his head against the door once, twice. “I fucked up so bad, Jess.”
Jesse fell to her knees, her hands still against the door and her heart hammering. Were Bucky’s hands opposite hers? An inch of wood—was that all that separated them?
“We caught that woman, the doctor. Faulk.”
Jesse nodded, forehead moving against the door. The FBI had kept her until the sting against Current Relief, and Faulk had been among those captured. Thirty-eight monsters behind bars, thank god.
“She—god, she said—I’m sorry, Jesse, I gotta tell you,” Bucky babbled. “She said you were nothing special. That you were nobody.”
Pain lanced through Jesse’s heart, sharper than any knife. She sat back on her heels, head bowed.
“Yeah,” she whispered.
“She was wrong!” Bucky slapped the door, breathing heavier. “She was so fucking wrong!”
What?
Jesse’s heart stopped. She raised her head, pressed her ear to the door, covered her mouth.
“You’re everything,” Bucky said. “You’re everything, Jesse. I can’t believe it took me so long to see it. I’ve been so blind!” He gave a shaky half-laugh, half-sob. She’d never heard him so miserable. “I’ve spent so long putting up walls that I didn’t even notice when they came down. For you, Jess. Just for you.” His metal hand scraped against the door, clinked against the doorknob, but he didn’t try to turn it. “Please, can I see you?”
Jesse couldn’t speak. She was frozen and shaking all at once, her heart pounding so loud in her ears she could barely hear him go on.
Bucky sighed. “I get it if it’s too late. I wouldn’t blame you at all. God, I was so fucking stupid.” He banged his head against the door again. “I was an ass to you. I just… I let you walk away? How could I? I didn’t mean to be cruel but I was, god, I was. Hell, maybe this is cruel too. I feel like—how many times did I wrong you? But I… I couldn’t keep this to myself. Maybe you hate me, but I had to come, had to tell you—”
Jesse wrenched open the door.
Bucky’s head snapped up. His blue eyes locked on hers.
Jesse's heart pounded at the sight of him, tears and all. Had it really only been three weeks since she’d seen him?
It felt like an eternity.
He too was on his knees; his hands fell from where they’d been propped against the door. His eyes were bloodshot, his shoulders tense. His customary cap was discarded on the hallway rug, but Jesse barely noticed. All she could see was him, his face, his trembling hands curling and uncurling at his sides.
“I could never hate you, Bucky,” she whispered. His eyes squeezed shut for the briefest moment, then opened to fix again on hers. Her hands itched to touch him, to smooth the pinch between his brows, but she had to know. She had to ask. “But what happened to being friends? What happened to ‘back to normal?’”
“I have friends,” he said. “Sam, Nat, Clint… but you—” He walked forward on his knees, past her threshold, and pressed his forehead against hers. His shaky breath was warm on her lips as he cupped her face with his right hand. “This was never normal,” he murmured.
Jesse’s hands trembled at her sides. She couldn’t speak, couldn’t move. Was this really happening? After all this time? Or was this just another terrible dream? She leaned into him and closed her eyes. If everything was about to fade away, at least she wouldn’t see it.
But Bucky didn’t disappear. He stayed put, his hand on her face and his forehead against hers.
Eventually, Bucky drew back, though his kept his hand on her face. Jesse didn’t dare open her eyes.
“Look at me?” he asked again, voice as soft as his touch.
She opened her eyes. He was there, right there, his face her whole world and his dark eyes fixed on hers. He brought his other hand up to cup her face and tilt it up to his. The metal was cool and smooth against her skin.
“Jesse,” he whispered, “can I kiss you?”
“Please,” she breathed, eyes wide.
Bucky’s gaze flitted between her eyes and her barely parted lips. His tongue darted out to wet his lips. Then he drew her face to his and kissed her, his mouth soft and his hands gentle. Jesse’s eyes slid shut. This was nothing like what she’d imagined, and certainly nothing like the all-too-vivid dream she’d had at the safehouse, but the solid realness of him was better than any fantasy. Her heart beat furiously, deliriously, but after barely a second Bucky drew back.
His eyes sought hers ought. Jesse stared. The hesitancy in his face twisted her gut. She swallowed. Was he regretting it? Did he think she wasn’t bursting with feeling? Slowly, she pressed a hand to his chest, against his heart. The second she leaned back in, he clutched her face in his hands and crushed her against him.
Jesse gasped at his sudden intensity, but then his lips were on hers and all thoughts flew out of her head. His gentleness was gone, replaced with an urgency that made her moan. Bucky angled his head to kiss her deeper; she buried her hands in his hair to bring him closer still, pressing herself against him.
Footsteps on the stairs startled them both; Bucky pulled back, his eyes dark and wide and halfway to wild. Jesse bit her lip as she sank back on her heels.
“You can come in,” she said, and he smiled at last.
“Oh,” he said. The dark wildness receded from his eyes. “Okay.” He grabbed his hat from the hall, helped her to her feet, and stepped inside, properly this time.
Jesse nudged the door shut. She locked the deadbolt and turned to lean against the door.
Bucky was standing scant feet away, twisting his cap in his hands. Jesse let herself just look at him, really look. A little smile was playing on his plush lips. He was dressed as nondescriptly as usual, jacket and shirt and bare hands. His jeans clung to his legs; his boots were as sturdy as ever. Her eyes trailed back to his face; he was still smiling that sweet smile, still looking at her as she looked at him.
“You’re really here,” she murmured.
“I am.”
She swallowed. There he was, filling the room, and yet. And yet. After so long hoping, after so long resigned to disappointment and heartbreak, it didn’t quite feel real. She twisted her hands together nervously.
“I just… I still kinda feel like I’m dreaming,” she admitted.
“Well, you’re not.” Bucky set his hat aside. He took her hand and pressed it back against his heart, between his shirt and jacket. His skin was warm even through the henley; his heart beat fast, strong—she could feel it straight through to her bones. “I’m here, Jess.” He kissed her hair. “I’m here.”
For now, it was enough to just be with him. Jesse had pulled Bucky to the couch where they lay down, her head against his chest. With his jacket discarded, she could listen to his steady heartbeat. She pressed a hand to his stomach, lightly tracing the muscles there. Bucky had one arm around her shoulders, his hand running gently through her loose hair. When her hand drew lower, fingers brushing the top of his jeans, he grabbed her hand and kissed her fingers.
Jesse sat up, unable to help a little smirk. “Are you ticklish?”
“Don’t push it,” Bucky said, but he was smiling too.
“I won’t, I won’t,” she said, but the urge was overwhelming. It was a good thing he didn’t let go of her hand, she decided. Instead, she asked the question he’d never really answered.
“What changed, Bucky?”
“Hm?”
Jesse swallowed. “You were so determined—you were so sure…” She trailed off, unsure how to continue.
But Bucky understood. He sat up, eyebrows pinched, and took her other hand with a sigh.
“I spent so long protecting myself from other people,” he said, voice low. “Then I started letting a few people in, decided where they’d fit. A friend from work, a nice old lady, that sort of thing. And then you came along.” His lips quirked up. “And it took time, but I was ready to call you a friend. But… that’s not what happened. And I was just too damn scared and stubborn to see what was happening. I was too scared to even want to see. I’ve lost people, I’ve lost—hell, you heard what I said to Natasha.”
Jesse nodded. His words then had given her so much heartache, and here they were, going down those same unfriendly paths. And he was baring his pain now too. She’d had inklings of his fear before, but hearing them in his own voice was heartbreaking. She knew what he’d lost—hell, the whole world knew.
If he was really so terrified of connecting, of letting his feelings speak for themselves, of making himself vulnerable, how much had he lost out on that she didn’t know about?
But he was here now. There was a happy ending in there, somewhere.
“Then you told me how you felt,” Bucky continued. “And it meant that after everything, I was going to lose you.” He shook his head; he brushed back the hair in his eyes impatiently. “I couldn’t live with that. It was eating me raw. And then that woman—” He cut himself off. “Well, she was wrong, and so was I.” He let out a shuddering breath and closed his eyes briefly, but then he smiled, and Jesse’s heart soared. He cradled her face in his hands. “I don’t know how I got so lucky.”
Jesse pressed her face into the crook of his neck, overcome. He felt lucky? Bucky Barnes, the best man in the world, felt lucky because of her? A nobody? Her breath caught in her throat; her eyes smarted.
“Hey, hey, what’s wrong?” Bucky asked. He wrapped his arms around her, tight and warm and reassuring. “You’re okay, sweetheart.”
“I just…” Jesse sniffed. She slid her hands around his waist and clutched his shirt, her face still buried in the crook as neck. She was as desperate as he’d sounded outside her door. “I’m the lucky one, Bucky. You—you don’t know what you mean to me. I—There’s never been anyone like you.”
“Nor you,” Bucky said. He kissed her hair and let out a little huff of astonishment. “Hell, after everything I did, the fact that you even opened the door—”
“Of course I opened the door!” Jesse blurted. She sat up, took hold of his face, and practically glared at him through the tears welling in her eyes. “I will always open my door for you, Bucky Barnes.”
Bucky brushed her hair back, his eyes soft as he leaned in to brush his lips against hers in his gentlest kiss yet.
“I know that now,” he said. “And I never should have doubted you. You’re so good, Jesse, and I…”
Jesse held her breath, stared—but Bucky just shook his head and stood them both up. She let out the air in her lungs slowly between her teeth. It was too much to expect that he loved her, or that he knew that he loved her if somehow he did, when he’d been so closed-off for so long.
Nevermind, she decided. If it would come, it would come. For now, he was here.
Bucky tugged her into his arms, smiling down at her with shining eyes. “Dance with me?” He led her in a twirl, catching her even closer than before.
“I don’t have a choice,” she said, smiling back, “but I don’t mind.”
Bucky held her close, his cheek pressed against her hair and hers against his chest as they swayed to imaginary music. His warm arm around her was everything she’d ever wanted since the very first time he’d held her like this. Was it a coincidence if the tempo was the same as their first song?
As if he were reading her thoughts, Bucky said, “I remember our first dance, I told you you looked out of time.”
Jesse chuckled. “I remember that too. And I think that was when I realized you deserved, well, to be happy.”
“Huh?”
Jesse blushed. “Don’t feel bad, but it just seemed awkward before then. Mostly because I was being a judgmental ass—”
“Everyone’s judgmental,” Bucky reminded her. “You told me that.”
“Fair enough.”
Bucky didn’t answer for some time. Not until he’d sent her out in another spin did he finally put voice to the thoughts knitting his brow.
“I think you had me even then,” he mused. “Just one dance, and boom. You just swooped in, out of nowhere, and there was no going back.”
“I could say the same, I think.” She moved a little away so she could meet his eyes. “Even if I didn’t realize how much you meant until Natasha came to take me away.” She tilted her head thoughtfully. “Pretty crappy timing. I realized I loved you right as I was leaving. Oh—you don’t need to say anything,” she added quickly. Bucky closed his mouth, but she reached up to smooth the pinch between his brows all the same, cupping his cheek once it was gone. “You’re here. That’s enough. You’re here, and we’ll go from there.”
Bucky ducked his head and kissed her, long and languid. Jesse could feel the start of something in it. Maybe not love, not yet, but something growing. Something to take them forward. Tenderness, respect, affection…
The start of something good.
Bucky pulled back. He pressed his forehead against hers and smiled.
“No going back.”
Jesse nodded. “No going back.”

he  moved  out  of  the  family  home  at  eighteen ,  car  loaded  with  boxes  and  heart  full  of  sorrow  and  the  inexplicable  joy  of  what  was  to  come .  he  can’t  say  he’s  sorry  for  leaving ,  but  he  will  admit  that  it  was  hard  .  living  in  such  a  close - knit ,  beautiful  family ,  you  get  very  attached  to  the  people  around  you  and  having  to  leave  is  a  pain  like  no  other .  (  he  drove  home  every  chance  he  could ,  brought  books  and  records  for  his  younger  siblings  to  swap  around ,  told  stories  of  university  life  with  only  a  touch  of  embellishment ,  bc  no  one  wants  to  hear  another  story  abt  how  you  stayed  home  on  friday  night  rereading  the  iliad  again .  )
he  pretty  much  cruised  through  uni  on  high  marks ,  tbh .  in  his  latter  years  he  became  a  tutor  and  peer  mentor ,  but  he  pretty  much  stuck  to  himself  for  most  of  his  time  there .  he  dabbled  in  theatre  arts ,  stage  managed  and  starred  in  a  few  shows ,  but  for  the  most  part  he  stuck  to  his  own  guns  and  got  through  uni  the  way  he  wanted  to .  it’s  here  that  he  starts  drafting  ideas  for  his  own  plays ,  but  he  doesn’t  take  them  too  seriously .  he  tends  to  write  them  as  a  detox  from  writing  legal  essays ,  and  his  first  ones  aren’t  great  but  they  get  better  and  better  as  time  goes  on .
after  he  graduated  with  first  class  honours ,  gabe  started  looking  for  work  and  after  a  month  of  relative  unemployment  (  there  was  a  whole  lot  of  greasy  takeout  and  near - teary  breakdowns  experienced  that  month ) ,  he  got  the  job  of  an  absolute  lifetime   --- -   working  as  a  legal  assistant  in  a  firm  in  new  york  city .  he  didn’t  hesitate  about  taking  that  job .
new  york  wasn’t  quite  what  it  was  cracked  up  to  be .  the  rent  on  his  apartment  was  exorbitant ,  moments  of  peace  and  quiet  were  transitory ,  he  was  overworked  and  underpaid ,  but  there  was  still  something  about  it  that  appealed  to  him  like  nothing  else .  he’d  save  his  change  and  go  see  broadway  shows  when  he  could ,  fell  in  love  with  everything  about  the  theatre .  note  that  his  burgenoning  love  for  theatre  didn’t  replace  his  love  for  the  law   --- -   it  merely  grew  out  of  the  same  place ,  that  same  love  for language  and  literature  that  drove  him  into  law .
he  ended  up  working  in  new  york  for  about  five  years  before  deciding  to  pack  it  in  and  move  back  to  old  sprigg .  there’d  been  a  job  opening  back  home  and  he  was  starting  to  feel  the  urge  to  return  home   ---   so  five  years  ago ,  he  packed  up  his  car  again  and  made  the  long  trip  back  home .  he  doesn’t  regret  leaving  new  york ,  not  at  all .  he’d  made  quite  the  success  story  of  himself  there ,  and  it’s  not  like  he  couldn’t  just  travel  back  and  forth  for  big  cases .  the  firm  was  reticent  to  let  their  ‘  hotshot  little  attorney   ’  go ,  but  it’s  been  the  best  thing  for  him .
he’s  been  back  for  five  years  now .  he  bought  a  house  relatively  close  to  his  parents  and  siblings ,  and  has  since  established  a  small  business  offering  legal  advice  and  taking  on  distance  cases .  he  travels  back  and  forth ,  but  he  loves  it  regardless .  he’s  adopted  three  dogs  and  a  cat ,  all  of  whom  insist  on  sleeping  in  the  bed   --- -   gabe  gets  the  smallest  sliver  of  bed ,  naturally .  he’s  written  two  plays  (  both  of  which  have  been  published  )  and  he’s  starting  work  on  the  third  one  now .

Slow, soft love making with Barba😍
awwwww…my heart. Sorry it took so long to get this out, I got too invested. Just so you all know I see your requests and I’m working on getting them written. I love each of you thank you so much for reading.
Tumblr media
It was snowing. Heaps of white clumps fell from the gray sky that seemed to only consist of more snow. You were no stranger to the weather, you’d been living in NYC for a few years now. The only time the snow was a problem was when it interfered with the trains, and they were all running just fine now which meant you could enjoy it.
You took the long way through the park which now looked like it’s own Narnia, branches coated and sealed in ice, dusted over in a few inches of snow. You breathed in the cold air, relishing in it’s chill as your body processed the oxygen in it’s more frigid state.
Your hands were a bit stiff and starting to feel numb so you shoved them in your pockets, flexing them in an attempt to increase your circulation. You knew your cheeks were red and flushed, the cold weather always gave you a blush.
You turned down another path in the park and suddenly you were alone. Wonderfully alone in a city of millions of people. You treasured moments like this, moments where you knew you weren’t alone when it appeared that you were. Just a few paths over you could hear children squealing and playing in the snow, dogs barking and business men chatting away on their blackberrys. All these things made you smile, but nothing could quite make you grin as widely as the thought of what, and who was waiting for you.
Rafael Barba had called you only a few minutes earlier, asking with feigned indifference if you would like to come over for some hot chocolate as well as his company. He phrased it more awkwardly of course and you knew that he had written it down on one of his legal pads and was attempting to read it off casually. It sounded like one of his opening statements. He had a formula for them, a carefully constructed mechanism for ensuring he said all he wanted to without saying too much.
It was adorable, of course you would never tell him that. Rafael was the picture of confidence and pride, he was good at his job, he had been great. You weren’t certain the man you preferred. You cared for him certainly, you had admired his passion, his dedication and above all his commitment to the law and it’s singularity. Recently things had changed.
He was too involved, too close, too human. The machine had become the man, and it was strange. You loved him, so you counseled him the best you could. He had made so many decisions that he regretted, so many choices that haunted him, sometimes he felt he had been given a second chance, a chance that if he sacrificed himself a little, he could balance the scales.
You told him over and over, just as one sin does not equal another, one conviction doesn’t equal another. Yes, situations demand any heart to look at them with exception, convincing the usually logical mind that if any allowances could be made they should be made. But that, you told him, was not his job. His job was law. To prosecute in defense of those laws. It was not his job to bend the law when he deemed fit.
He had agreed, kissed you and thanked you. And then he had done the exact opposite.
You had been angry. Furious to be exact. You hadn’t seen him in days. He kept calling, sending messages, even emailing your work account which he knew was monitored by your company. You ignored them all.
But today it had snowed. And on a day this beautiful, you couldn’t bear to be anywhere else. So you accepted his invitation, and now you were smiling at the doorman as he gave you a nod of recognition when you shuffled into Rafael’s building.
Though you scuffed your feet against the doormat there was still a squeak coming from the soles of your shoes as you walked across the marble floors towards the elevators.
As you rose higher and higher you thought about fighting with him, yelling at him for not listening to you and possibly ruining his career, but you also thought about kissing him, telling him how much you missed him and how you loved him.
When he opened his door you still hadn’t decided. Rafael stared at you, his expression soft and childlike. His green eyes were wide as he waited for you to make the first move, to instruct him with your language on how to proceed.
“I missed you.” Honesty.
“You did?” Disbelief.
“Yeah.” Reluctance.
You didn’t want to reward his bad behavior but you couldn’t stop yourself from running a hand down his sweater clad chest. He was warm and solid in front of you, and you felt a lump rise in your throat, a culmination of how truly you had missed him.
He pulled you to him by your hand and wove one of his into the side of your hair before kissing you. His lips were always the same, tender but firm, expressing everything he couldn’t bring his voice to.
Suddenly he moved you, pulling you both into his apartment as the door slammed shut behind you. You shed your coat and hopped up, linking your legs behind his back. Rafael loved when you did this, he knew he was mentally strong, but this made him feel physically strong. It was a confirmation that he could protect you, he could carry you, he could save you. These were the thoughts that permeated Rafael’s mind as he ran a hand under your sweater over the warmth of your spine. It was you. You were here.
Had you forgiven him? He didn’t know. Rafael prayed you had, he couldn’t take another day without you.
He helped you out of your sweater and both of you fell onto his couch before rolling onto the floor in an accidental tumble. You giggled in that lovely way you did, your hair falling around his face like tendrils from a weeping willow. He smoothed a firm thumb over your cheekbone in fondness and adoration for you, your beauty and nature, your spirit and candor. Rafael Barba loved you, frighteningly so, and he was terrified you didn’t love him.
He had spent the past week thinking of what he would do if you never came back. The thought made him pace, it silenced all other thoughts in his mind as he tried to prep for court. But now you were here and he could breathe again, he could feel his mental faculties return in colorful explosions of renaissance, his mind reborn in your presence. All that filled it was you, your scent, your touch, your skin.
You pulled him up in a kiss, seated on his lap, so you could remove his sweater and undershirt. You made quick work of them before pushing him back down, kissing along his collarbone and shoulders. Feeling the urge of desire you took one of his nipples into your mouth and bit it softly before licking it’s raised skin. He moaned and you smiled, the noises he made were music, the longer you worked on him the more uninhibited they got.
You rocked your hips softly against his and sucked lightly on his jaw, taking your time to reclaim him, to remind him what it was like to be yours. His large hands rested on your sides and back, still, so that he could focus on your motions and all the sensations you were providing him with.
It didn’t take long before he was squirming underneath you, signaling his desire and arousal physically. You grasped his face and ran your index fingers over the shells of his ears softly with an appreciative hum. He looked so beautiful, pressed into the dark red carpet of his living room staring up at you with those wonderful green eyes.
You kissed him twice before hopping off of him to start his fireplace and open his blinds. You turned off the lights and threw some light kindling into the fireplace. It was dusty, Rafael never lit fires in his apartment, primarily because he didn’t know how. But you did. So you started it up and he watched you for a few moments with a soft smile before getting up and grabbing the duvet and a couple of pillows off of his bed.
He tossed them to the floor and walked over to his now perfect view of the snow covered central park. Rafael had always wanted a view of the park when he was a child. He would gaze up at the buildings that surrounded it and cross his arms in determination. Small but sure, he knew that one day he would be able to see it all, every tree and pond. And now he could. But the snowy view was not what captivated him now. It was you, your face lit by the amber glow of the fire you had started, as you nudged some kindling towards the growing flame before signing with satisfaction.
“So you missed me hmmm?” He was still standing by the window, his torso turned towards you, revealing the truth of his interests.
“I did.” You moved to where he had laid the duvet and pillows, sliding under the fluffy material before extending a delicate hand towards him.
He took it, dusting his own fingers down yours before clasping your palm to his.
“Is it still snowing?” You asked as he laid beside you, adjusting his head a couple of times on the pillow before relaxing with an exhale.
“A little.” You could feel his breath on your lips as he moved closer to you.
“Well then we have to hurry.”
“What?” He smiled softly, confused at your previous sentence.
“I forgive you while it’s snowing. But when it stops, we need to talk.” You spoke deciding to reveal what you had decided you were feeling.
“What?” He repeated this time sitting up, taking most of the duvet with him.
“Raf.”
“I thought this was, I thought you had forgiven me…what I did…that had nothing to do with you.” He was confused, and getting frustrated.
“Rafael that had everything to do with me! You begged me, you said you needed me to help you, and I did, I told you what to do, the right thing to do, and you ignored me.”
“I did what I did so I could sleep at night!” He raised his voice and moved to stand obviously agitated at the way the conversation was going.
You jumped up as well and grabbed his hand, he wasn’t going to escape this conversation. He argued for a living but when it came to your relationship he always ran from a fight. The truth was he was afraid of what he would say, afraid of hurting you in a fit of rage as his father had hurt his mother over and over. You didn’t know this.
He stayed seated and allowed you to move closer towards him all while holding his hand.
“Rafael, I know more than anyone about why you did what you did. But you have to understand, I tell you what I tell you not from some moral high ground, but from a place of love. I’m trying to protect you. And it hurts me when you throw that away.” You moved so he would be looking directly at you, forcing him to see the emotion on your face.
“I…I’m sorry, I never want to hurt you. Listen I…” He didn’t quite know what to say.
There were so many things he wanted to say, to tell you but he couldn’t bring his mind and tongue to coordinate. He started and stopped a few times, watching you as you waited patiently for him to gather his thoughts.
“I didn’t do what I did as a betrayal of your council. I trust you, and I…I need you. You tell me what I need to hear, which is not always what I want to hear. And I hope you can forgive me for…for hurting you which was and never will be my intention. I…don’t know what else to say…I’m just sorry.” His gaze met yours a few times before falling once more to the floor.
His grip on your hand was tight and you knew his apology was genuine. He didn’t think he was wrong, he was still hoping what he did was right. But he had apologized. And that was rare from him.
You tucked some of his hair back into the messy fluffy heaps on his head and pressed a kiss to his soft cheek, feeling the beginnings of stubble scratch gently against your lips.
“Thank you. I forgive you.” You took his face in both hands and kissed his lips, pulling his head at an odd angle.
You pushed back the duvet and straddled him once more and he gasped softly at the pressure of your body on his. He let you kiss him, deeply and tenderly for a few moments before pulling back.
The fire was crackling and popping now, closely resembling Rafael’s emotions. He had to say something now, or he feared he never would. It had come too close, too close to you not knowing how much he needed you, how much he wanted you, how much he had to have you.
“I love you.” He released in a heavy breath, one of his hands shaking on the side of your face.
“What?” You flashed confusion before tilting your head as if trying to replay the last five seconds.
“I…I love you. And I need you to know that. I need you to know that I need you.”
“Oh Raf…” You held him in suspense for a few moments before planting a kiss on the tip of his nose.
“I love you.” You giggled your confession and his expression flickered between uncertainty and joy, unsure what your giggle signified.
“Really?” He managed as you peppered him with little kisses.
“Yes really.”
“You love me?”
“Yes.” You laughed softly at his disbelief and his phrasing, you felt as if you were being questioned on the stand in one of his cases.
He was still for a few moments and you pulled away so you could look him dead in the eyes.
“Rafael Barba I love you.” You spoke clearly and firmly, waiting for the message to sink in.
His face changed a few times as tears welled in his eyes, but he finally settled on an expression of happiness, soft, total uninhibited joy.
Rafael wrapped his arms around you, one up to the base of your neck. He rolled you down to the ground carefully and slowly, holding you tightly against his body.
You unfastened your bra and tossed it to the side before taking his face into your hands. You didn’t kiss, both of you were too lost in the other’s eyes and expressions. Deftly your hands worked on removing your jeans, Rafael helped you with a quick tug, freeing your legs to feel the warmth of the fire beside you.
He ran a palm up your shin and thigh before threading his fingers into the lace of your panties. You reached for his pants, wanting to rid him of them entirely, knowing that he would forget to take them off if you didn’t help him now.
Rafael moved off of you to pull off his khakis before settling in between your legs once more. He lowered his face only millimeters from yours, so close his breath caused your eyelashes to tremble.
“You love me.” He whispered with a small huff of disbelief.
“I do.”
“I love you.”
“I know.” You stroked a hand over the muscles of his back before rounding to his lower stomach where you slipped your hand into his briefs.
You pulled at him softly and he adjusted his hips to make your motions easier. Rafael lowered onto his forearms and kissed you, firmly but tenderly, in a way only he could.
You worked him with your hand and wrist for a while only stopping when he reached for your hand and placed it in his hair. You used your feet to push down his briefs and he assisted kicking them off with a chuckle.
He then slipped your panties off and down your legs, placing a kiss on your knees as he moved. Rafael settled with his face at your center, licking along the line that concealed you from him. He worked you open with his nose and tongue, closing his eyes at your taste. This was always his favorite when it came to foreplay, though you enjoyed it tremendously, he knew he got more out of it than you did.
The hand that was in his hair scratched at his scalp as he flicked his tongue over your core before kissing and sucking on your sensitive clit. He moaned into the silence of the room as you shifted your hips, dying for more.
You cried out when he started his pace, knowing exactly how to move his tongue and lips against you to elicit your pleasure. He continued, on and on, never slowing and never tiring of how you tasted on his tongue and lips.
Rafael pressed a hand on the soft skin of your stomach and held you in place as he really dug in, his nose now nuzzling your clit harder and harder in little circles.
You tried to speak but couldn’t, you tugged on his thick hair but he didn’t move or stop. You came hard, with the force of a crashing wave you gasped and whimpered, feeling him smile against you as he drank you in, treating you as a chalice of his own elixir.
But he didn’t stop. Rafael kept working you up, and your body fed off the remainders of your previous orgasm to build your second. He gave you a solid lick over your clit and you came again, this time crying his name. He repeated this two more times, you were shaking and sobbing when he finally took you into his arms and kissed you, feeding you the taste of yourself and new air.
You whined and cried into his open mouth as it ghosted over you. He looked into your eyes and moved on top of you, waiting for your consent. You nodded and kissed him once more before he slid inside of you with ease, filling you totally in seconds. You gripped at his back, kneading his muscles as they rippled under your fingers.
He moved in and out of you slowly and smoothly, kissing at your jaw when you threw your head back in rapture. He rolled his hips expertly, humming against your breast when he took your nipple into his mouth briefly. His pace was slow and full of adulation. He whispered praise and worship into your ears as he continued, spelling out tales of your beauty and intelligence, perfection and kindness. He repeated a promise of love over and over, and you whispered it back to him as he moved within you, a welcome pressure against the pit of your stomach.
Your orgasms approached slowly like his movements, but they were strong and all consuming. He pulled you up into his lap and rocked his hips into yours a few final times before you both cried and moaned in unison, the euphoria overtaking you. Rafael’s breathing became heavy as he held you up against his chest, your breasts pressing into his collarbone while you clenched around him, pulsing involuntarily at the release your body gave.
Tears were streaming down both of your faces as he nuzzled your chest and neck with his face, relishing in the glow of your skin in the light of the fire. It had gotten dark outside, neither of you noticing that the sun had descended long ago.
Rafael laid you down carefully, following your body with his as he pulled himself out of you. You curled into the warmth his body provided as he reached for the duvet that had been pushed away by your feet. The fire popped and snapped, both of you breathing together, your face nestled in the hot skin of Rafael’s neck.
It snowed even more over night and the both of you awoke to sore backs and a breathtaking view of Central Park and the streets below completely covered in a blanket of snow. You settled on his lap in one of his robes after lighting another fire, content to watch the snow fall knowing Rafael would be watching you.

Had a TV moment today when my dumb ass tripped over my laces about two blocks away from home and there was an audible stumble as my bags tore and the contents spilled out. 📺🛍🍌🥦🍅🥖A couple who had just walked by asked if I was okay and I just quickly shouted “I’M OKAY THANKS” before I attempted to scurry off with the broken bags. 🤦🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♂️If only the TV moment had continued and some cutie would have come by to offer his services in helping me carry the load back to my apartment. 🤔👬❓In the end I had to call my roommate @joanna.fann to help come save my sorry ass (and also take this picture just for kicks lol). 😂📸 At least I only walked away with a scraped knee and slightly torn/scuffed high tops? 😔👟#sundayfunday #tvmoment #newyorkminute #nyc #brooklyn #bushwick #bushwickboy #dumbass #singlesday #1111 #wheresmybae #singlelife (at Brooklyn, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqESFjXhJCe/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=2muhdmfb419a

I feel good and bad about this law. I'm conservative. I don't entirely agree with the law. But it's good that people are able to get on an affordable insurance plan if they have a pre-existing condition rather than being left out to die. But what about the people who are getting kicked off insurance plans and now have to pay even higher rates than they already were? I get a subsidy for my plan. I don't feel like I deserve it. I just moved and need new car insurance. I also have no medical. Can I cover both through the same company?
I've heard that State Farm and Allstate are now offering some medical packages. My wife and I don't necessarily need a lower copay for normal doctor visits, but we'd rather not go bankrupt if something catastrophic happens; accident, disease, etc. Has anyone had good experiences buying health insurance this way? How does the insurance company find out about moving violations?
My understanding is that when you get a moving violation (e.g, a speeding ticket), the police or the courts or whoever will notify your insurance company. When your insurance company finds out and finds out about the points that are now on your license, they raise your insurance premium. ""Insurance Claim estimate lower than expected, what do I do?""
An elderly lady backed up into my car a few days ago and we decided it'd be best to file an insurance claim. After the claim was ruled in my favor I was sent to a body shop for an estimate of the repair. The damage was to the rear quarter panel of my car which consisted of a scrape across the panel and a quarter sized dent in the panel. The insurance adjuster gave me an estimate and check for 855$. My question is in regards to the repairs, I feel that since this is 100% the other party's fault and since I am the person who has to drive the car that I am entitled to the maximum premium in repairs. I have been reading on Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) and most will say that its the cheap way of making a repair. Does anyone know if it would be possible to go back and get a new estimate/settlement for a new rear quarter panel? Basically my logic is this, if you damage any of my property it should be 100% my call if I want to settle for a compromise or not.""

am i growing n listening a bit
I think soooo. I am onto something.
Th following expressions are strictly to get them onto paper and out of my mind.
So 1. I have already started snooping and it hasnt even been a week/it wasn’t even 24 hrs after we had “reconnected” (per se).. and as soon as I got around that phone by myself I put my print in and went through it. I am not sure what I expected but I found stuff, one of the things that stood out to me were the sending of std testing and with a girl on kik discussing going to la together. I didnt feel anything at first. I just laughed and scuffed. Of course I thought...
Anyways, the more I thought about it (which hasn't been too much due to my compartmentalization exercise ) the more off put I am by it. It kinda grosses me out and makes me just want to close off. I cannot identify exactly why and a big part of me has accepted it as an it is what it is situation. and that is how I feel about it today. I haven’t gotten to much anxiety from this whole thing but it has definitely brought thoughts. (add on: if I ask and he denies, I am leaving, if i ask and its gonna happen, I am leaving)
Nyc,misstravel boo hmu today and asked me about volunteering and that he does a toy drive, for some reason this made me smile inside, it felt different and genuine. I had been significantly less chatty since going out last friday and when I told him I know longer wanted him to come visit me, I could audibly tell he was upset by it.  and this made me think about how i feel towards shawn and idk.. definitely not like this and for many reasons.
On the way home I thought about if I went over his house and with the thought came slight dread and dismay. It seems.. boring. ..lonely.. boring..same old same old. When passing Josephine’s the other day- it too brought on a head turn.. “I really actually don’t like it in there”, I thought to myself.  Then I thought about waking up there, No. No. No. How boring, it is the same shit every time. Then I though about the things we used to do here, they were the same cycle of the same activities. Since he has made comments of staying here etc etc, I have given it a little thought and I am disgusted. I do not want to stay here in the slightest, especially for him. I don’t want any part to be a part of that life. I like who I am, I like where I am and I like where I am going. SO NO. After that initial thought, I began to retrace my steps to that place where I was miserable and YES I WAS MISERABLE, but MISERABLE. Here’s some reasons why:
1. I felt like an object, just there.
2. I wasn’t allowed to have feelings/ there was no safe space of expression or I would get scuffed at or minimized, consistently.
3. I felt as though I was in a golden cage, everyone around me thought everything was perfect, I even thought everything was perfect. The smallest hint at my unhappiness was followed by a million comments on what I have and how I have been helped. and Yes, I was very blessed but whats a big beautiful home if its empty inside.
4.His stinginess and my lack of freedom, with my allowance being taken. I had to ask for money and of course, always needed an excuse for it. I no longer financial freedom, I couldn't really save and I lied about the amount of money I did make. Now that I am thinking about it, it even makes me more upset that I was asked to work less in order to spend more time with him but in return got nothing but headaches, paranoia and criticism.
5. I have no interest in his life. I do not want to be him ever- again, happy in career but poor in friendship, love, and life.
6. I could not trust him and cannot even if i wanted to
I cannot fathom nor would even forgive myself if I went back to this. I know what I deserve and it is levels above this and the best part, I know it is waiting for me to uncover it. I love myself. I love my life and I am not changing it for anybody.
With that being said, I am allowing this door to be in my life only in the present and I cherish the undeniable connection between us but I WILL NOT allow him to bring upon these detrimental and terrible components to my life. Get away from me, If you ain’t glowing or growing you dying. and we can’t be together if you dead.
WITH ALL THIS BEING SAID LETS GET THESE LASHES DONE ANS THIS A ON THE FRENCH TEST N THIS B ON THE 10 PG PAPER N AN A ON MY OTHER PAPERS YA BISHHHH. THEN WE GONNA CHIILLL SHAWTY N THEN WE OFFFF TO NYC AND WE GLOW GLOW GLOOO.

Would be it be insane if I planned out a whole like video game script for my Scuffed NYC save file? I'm talking plots, cutscenes, side missions, THE WHOLE SHABANG.
It sounds fun, but also complete manic behavior LOL

Finally getting around to this 24 Screenshot thing. Thanks for tagging me @its-opheliasgarden!
I might be known as a builder, but I actually play with sims too! So, here are my 24 gameplay shots from 2024. This post features a mix of behind the scenes Doo Doo, Scuffed NYC sims, and some saves I played in.
Also, let's pretend these photos are in chronological order by date...
Also also, if you want to participate (even though we're halfway through January LOL), you can say I tagged ya!
