Here's some comparisons!

Sev:

It's the ones around the crown of her head that I really gotta watch for, but those beard ones can surprise me too. Body is rough like sandpaper and the side spikes are many and long.

Rumple:

Smoother beard with tiny spikes. Less spikes around the crown. Scales are rough but less likely to be confused with a pumice stone. Side spikes are tiny. Overall so much less chance for pain.

Sev is pretty much the cat Vine of "soft and squishy--OW SHARP AND POINTY" while Rumple is smooth like shark.

My own personal opinion for would be bearded dragon owners: get a leatherback. Unless you are just really into the aesthetic of spikes, in which case Godspeed.

Rumple is a leatherback versus Sev the normal. Ever stabbed yourself with a pin? That stomach churning tiny pain that you feel for hours, even if it didn't break the skin? Yeah--exact same sensation when Sev decides to stab me with a head spike. Everything about her is like trying to hold a pissed off hedgehog. If I have to hold her down for something, it requires a towel. I'm glad she isn't the cuddler that Rumple is because I'd probably look like I got attacked by an entire nest of vampires.

Meanwhile Rumple is over there with minimum spikes. She can burrow into my neck and shoulder without me calling for a medic. She can be petted. She has sass for days but that's probably not morph specific. Actually I'm pretty sure that's just a part of being in the agamid family.

I'm conclusion: get a spiky beardie if you really want one. Just...maybe invest in some Kevlar.
