Scuba Diving Trips For Teens - A World Of New Adventures Awaits - The Road Less Traveled
Whether you are reading this because you are specifically seeking out a scuba adventure program for your teen, or it has never even crossed your mind to consider one, there are many reasons to choose a teen scuba and travel program with The Road Less Traveled (RLT). Let's take a look at just some of the benefits and outcomes for your teen.
Getting Certified - A globally recognized PADI scuba certification
Teens don't need to have any previous scuba experience to join an RLT trip. As long as they are competent swimmers, comfortable in water, and enjoy snorkeling, they can join us and get fully certified as a PADI Open Water Diver as part of our trip. For students that have previous experience or SCUBA certifications, they can build on their skills and get the next level of certification to further enhance their scuba journey.
Using SCUBA skills to help with Underwater Marine Service Projects
Teen scuba and travel programs with RLT also go one step further than just learning to dive. Once certified, students will work alongside marine biologists, scientists, conservationists and other experts in marine science to help with important service work to protect and enhance underwater ecosystems. Projects include restoring coral reefs in Florida and Bali, tackling invasive species in Belize, or helping clear pollution and debris in Italy. All service hours are fully certified and will count towards school requirements and help with college admissions.
Developing teens as part of a scuba program.
We have shared how teens will leave our programs with multiple scuba certifications and how they will get first hand experience and certified community service hours as well. But that’s not it!
Our carefully devised trips are also unique as they also allow students to grow in themselves, develop community and friends, and have meaningful travel experiences all across the world. Our scuba programs give teens the chance to discover local cultures, practice language skills, explore local towns and cities, and immerse themselves in natural surroundings often so different from where they call home. Our varied programs combine scuba, adventure activities, cultural immersion and travel experiences to make a 2 week trip your child won't forget!
What scuba travel programs are open for booking for next summer?
We have a range of RLT scuba diving trips that are available for booking for the summer of 2024, and places are filling quickly!
Here are a few examples of what we mean:
The Italy: Dive The Med program gives young people a picturesque European backdrop on which to learn to scuba dive or build on their existing skills, discovering all manner of captivating marine life in the process.
The Florida: Conservation Is Key program focuses strongly on marine conservation, and gives young travelers the chance to work alongside the Coral Restoration Foundation as they rebuild underwater coral nurseries in the Florida Keys.
The Bali: Coral And Culture trip allows teen travelers the chance to explore part of Indonesia, while getting a PADI scuba certification or further honing their existing scuba diving skills. In addition they will assist with marine conservation service work aimed at restoring coral reef systems.
The Belize: Beneath The Surface program offers 14 days spent in a jaw-dropping island location even by Caribbean standards, complete with jungles, rainforests, and the world’s second largest barrier reef.
At the time of typing this blog, every scuba adventure program detailed here has available space for 9th - 12th graders. So, please don’t hesitate to make an enquiry to learn more about your teen’s place on a trip that could be one of the most formative steps they ever take!

Buck has designed a perfect vacation for them both, having researched the perfect location offering culture and adventure, booked great accommodations, rented a vintage muscle car that will satisfy the car aficionado he knows his boyfriend to be, made reservations at restaurants and eateries Buck is intrigued by, and basically planned out an entire itinerary of programs for them both (leaving lots of time for them to fool around, even).
One thing he forgot to do is ask Tommy if he's okay with the activities he selected.
"What do you mean you aren't going scuba diving with me?" Buck asks, flabbergasted.
"I've a fear of being in the sea," Tommy says for the third time that night. "There's a reason I opted to train as a pilot."
Buck folds his arms. "You never said."
"Baby, we've been dating for half a year and I've never even gone to the seaside with you." Tommy sighs and takes his boyfriend's hands, uncrossing his arms. "I'm sorry, I should've said something before you went ahead and planned all of this. I didn't think you'd book us a scuba trip."
Buck can't help pouting. He loves the ocean almost as much as Tommy loves the air.
Rolling his eyes affectionately, Tommy straddles Buck's lap and kisses him on each cheek, before tapping a finger on the pouty lips. Buck catches the finger in his teeth and puts just a bit of pressure on the digit. His blue eyes flick up to meet Tommy's amused gaze, and he bites down a little harder.
"Ow."
Buck lets go. "I still wanna go out to sea," he says. He is not whining like a brat. It's a vacation, he likes the water, and he hears something about relationships being give and take. And he doesn't want to cancel the boat trip that's already booked.
"Tell you what," says Tommy, eyes dancing with fondness, "we'll go, and I'll just do SUP or, idk, suntan. Drift about on an inflatable raft. You can scuba dive to your heart's content."
The compromise is a decent offer. Buck loops his arms around Tommy's waist and tugs him close. "You gotta wear red Speedos though."
"I don't have-" Tommy sees the glint in his boyfriend's eyes and laughs, shaking his head in surrender. "Fine. Red Speedos." He kisses Buck on the forehead, and then on the lips when Buck whines for more. "Brat."
"Your brat now," Buck retorts, and pinches Tommy's ass.

Basketball uniform (Gains Weight)
Skateboarding gear (Gets Programmed)
Yellow scuba gear w/helmet (Takes a Dive)
Normal outfit, but with hard hat (Under Construction)
Notes:
Not a big fan of the clunky space suit, but considering that “Out of This World” was Star Trek reference after another, it kind of fits. The space suits in Star Trek TOS are even worse.
It always feels a bit strange to see Carlos wearing an outfit that isn’t primary colors.
The books also have some great designs as well, but that’s not what I’m here for.
Half of these outfits are some variation of space suits or scuba suits. Which doesn’t surprise me, but man, the artists couldn’t stick to a consistent scuba design for any of the kids.
My personal favorites for Carlos’s alternate outfits are: Star Trek uniform, blue space suit, orange and green winter coat, summer outfit, butterfly safari outfit, and baseball uniform.
#magic school bus#character design#Carlos ramon#no pictures because I’m tired and it would take up the picture limit

A team of high profile explorers went on a discovery mission to one of the world's most breathtaking locations, the Great Blue Hole of Belize. This round formation in the middle of the Caribbean waters is almost 420 foot deep and its deep azure color stands in contrast to the bright turquoise water surrounding it.
Images by agiampiccolo / Depositphotos, via Wikipedia
The depths below this beautiful oceanic scene held never-before-seen secrets, and the team was eager to be the first to discover them. What they found at the bottom of this dark pit was surprising and extremely troubling.
Not all divers plunge to the depths of the ocean. Deep underwater diving can be risky and requires a great deal of experience. The Cousteau family, descendants of legendary diving pioneer Jacques Cousteau, has this sort of experience.
Jacques's grandson, Fabien, is a life-long oceanic explorer, diving to the murky depths and documenting ancient shipwrecks, sharks, and other deep-ocean mysteries. But even this experienced diver was caught speechless when he finally got the opportunity to dive into Belize's Great Blue Hole.
Located in Belize's eastern coast is the Belize Barrier Reef, the second largest reef network in the world and a significant portion of the ecosystem we know as the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.
Second only to Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef's northern tip stretches to Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, while the south tip is in the south of Honduras.
The reef network's Great Blue Hole is a dark spot situated right in its center, tempting researchers and explorers alike to dive into the ocean deep.
A truly stunning natural phenomenon, the Blue Hole is effectively irresistible to scuba divers. Located in the Lighthouse Reef, the small formation is found in the eastern part of the Belize Barrier Reef.
Despite its enormous radius, it's not safe and extremely challenging to dive down the Blue Hole. A minimum of 24 dives are required for those wanting to attempt to delve into its mysterious depths.
And so, while the top part of this oceanic pit became a popular diving attraction, its dark depths remained unexplored.
Jacques Cousteau visited the Great Blue Hole in 1971 and rated it as one of the top five diving locations in the world. Still, the famous explorer only got to experience the top-most area of the hole, as he was using 1970s diving equipment which was relatively low-tech.
This meant that for his grandson, Fabien, the mission of diving down the Blue Hole was more than a professional challenge, it was his legacy. With advanced equipment, the Cousteau mission could go much further than ever before.
The Blue Hole expedition included a couple more A-listers besides Fabien Cousteau. The explorer was also joined by the famous conservationist and adventurer Sir Richard Branson. The billionaire, who is owner of the Virgin Group and Virgin Oceanic - a fleet of underwater vehicles - was very keen to come along.
Another member of the explorers' team was Erika Bergman, an oceanographer who was the designated pilot of the team's submarine, Aquatica.
The excited team went on their mission feeling positive, but this attitude did not last and their return was quite grim.
The legendary explorer, Jacques Cousteau, believed that people protect what they love. Following his approach, Sir Richard Branson aims to make the oceans more accessible, while also protected.
Hugely successful in his business, Bronson invests a lot of money in raising awareness and fighting climate change. He does this through running programs with educational purposes about ecological sustainability. He also hosts global warming summits at his private home on the British Virgin Islands.
Though not the deepest hole in the ocean, the Blue Hole's one-of-a-kind form and geological composition make diving to its deeper end a rare moment in history. The hole was said to be a sort of planetary inner space, and of course, the mission enjoyed never before seen media coverage, including the team's live stream broadcast on the Discovery Channel.
As the preparations were being made, and with the camera rolling, Branson, Cousteau and Bergman's historical journey could being.
The type of buzz the mission to the Great Blue Hole created was not unlike the one surrounding film director James Cameron's adventure to the bottom of the deepest point in the oceans, Mariana Trench, as part of his research for his Avatar films.
Since the crew of the Aquatica would be delving to a shallower depth, the viewing dome of the vessel was much larger, creating a comprehensive visual experience for its passengers.
And these visuals were very much spectacular as the submarine was diving down into the deep blue water and along cliffs and other rock formations.
When it initially dived into the ocean, the Aquatica caused some sediments in the water, which made it cloudy and impeded visibility. Once the sediment eased, the view was one of geological wonder, including numerous caves of stalactites hanging from the rocks.
On the ground, stalactites are not uncommon. They are created by mineral-rich water dripping slowly from one rock face to another for centuries. The minerals are collected and dry until they become a formation. But how was it possible for the minerals to dry at a depth of 20 meters under water?
The Ice Age
The underwater stalactites had meant one thing to the crew, as Sir Richard Branson put it, it was “one of the starkest reminders of the danger of climate change” ever witnessed.
The cave system with the stalactites used to be above water, but with sea levels rising at the end of the last Ice Age, the water of the Caribbean rose quickly, covering large spans of land. This was evident by the change in color of the rocks found 200 feet underwater, marking the previous sea level prior to the sea levels rising.
Solving Age-Old Mysteries
Being as deep as it was, and as untouched, other teams have visited the Blue Hole before the Aquatica crew.
Hoping to collect useful information through geological samples inside the giant sinkhole, a research team from Rice University and Louisiana State University has previously descended into the hole as part of their attempts to answer age-old questions about another mysterious location miles away: the jungles in Central America. These teams gathered rock samples at various depths within the Blue Hole.
Reading the Rocks
The scientists from Rice University and Louisiana State University were looking into one of humanity's greatest mysteries: the disappearance of Mayan culture. This advanced ancient kingdom spanned across Central America, including Belize, but we have yet to explain why the Mayans abandoned their magnificent cities. But how could an underwater expedition answer this question?
Looking at the chemical composure of the rock, the scientists from the previous expedition found lower than expected levels of titanium and aluminum in the rock samples. This meant the decline of Mayan culture could have been the result of a long lasting drought.
Floating Toxicity
About 30 meters below the surface of the water, the Aquatica had to face an extraordinary challenge: at this depth there was a 20-foot floating layer of hydrogen sulfide-rich water. This substance was not only deadly to any living creature, but could easily bite into and destroy metal.
In the cave surrounding this toxic layer, the explorers found many forms of marine life that got caught in the poisonous waters and died. This would normally mark the boundary of any descent down the Blue Hole, but the Aquatica was built to survive this substance and the dive down continued.
Pioneers
After diving past rock formations, stalactite caves, and toxic water, the Aquatica reached the bottom of the hole, something no manned vessel ever accomplished before.
The team was excited to start mapping the area in the hope of progressing scientific research, with Fabien Cousteau being the most excited. This expedition meant he was not only following his grandfather's footsteps, but also expanding them.
But the far side of the hydrogen sulfide barrier did not only reveal geological findings, but also other, very disturbing discoveries.
A Horrifying Discovery
From the surface, looking down into the Blue Hole revealed nothing but the deep and untouched blue water. But the reality at the bottom of this pit was starkly different. To the team's heightening concern, the floor of the Belize Blue Hole was lined with plastic bottles, bags, and more litter. Humanity's impact here was no different than anywhere else in the ocean.
This saddened the team, as they realized that beyond voicing their concerns, a horrifying discovery like this should not be simply passed over. Something had to be done!
A New Mission Born
Rather than making historical discoveries about parts beyond the reach of humans, the biggest discovery of this expedition ended up being a new record for human pollution. This was indeed a horrifying finding, particularly since plastic, a human invention that became widespread and popular only in the middle of the 20th Century, was destroying parts of the planet that were untouched well before the Ice Age.
Branson was adamant about the need for action and joined forces with a conservationist conglomerate called Ocean Unite in order to start saving the Blue Hole, as well as the blue planet.
Conserving Oceanic Territories
The official goal of Ocean Unite is to reserve at least 30 percent of the planet's oceans as protected areas by 2030, making any damage done to them carry serious legal consequences. The mission in the Blue Hole wasn't Branson's first action as a member of Ocean Unite, but it provided him with enough evidence that this area deserved better.
The billionaire met with the prime minister of Belize and his wife, hoping to convince them to declare 10 percent of Belize's oceanic territory as protected area. This would conserve and protect these ecosystems from any damage, including industrial pollution.
A Pledge to the Future
Still bothered by the findings at the bottom of the deceptively untouched Blue Hole, Branson set out some changes with his own companies in order to rectify the damage. As soon as he returned from Belize, and following the pledge made by its prime minister, he declared his airlines would stop the use of single-use plastic on their flights.
His motivation for this and other steps, according to him, was the thought of his grandchildren living in 2050 in their thirties, in a world without remaining natural treasures.
Lemur Island
Ocean Elders is a group of individuals who are influential in the fields of business, entertainment, and art, who are devoted to heightening awareness to issues regarding the environment.
Famous members include Fabien Cousteau's father, Jean Michel Cousteau, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, and Sir Richard Branson. Bronson is a key member and has a strong resume of fighting for the environment.
He is the founder of several NGOs and non-profit organizations dealing with environmental issues and even founded the Special Award for the Environment. He also bought an entire Caribbean island dedicated to the conservation of ring-tailed lemur in Madagascar.
Plastic Waste
One of the biggest environmental disasters the planet is facing is plastic waste. Branson and many other powerful people have been pooling their resources to fight the damage done by plastic. Big names like Branson and James Cameron, as well as less known individuals who work and volunteer in grassroots movements, are joining forces to fight the good fight and try and clean our oceans.
Other blue holes face similar threats to the Belize Blue Hole. A blue hole in Egypt faces a similar situation, and poses a different kind of danger as well.
The Red Sea's Blue Hole
Spanning between Israel at its north tip and Yemen at its south, the Red Sea is the world's most northern tropical sea. Famous for its clear blue water, magnificent coral reefs, and a high level of biodiversity, the Red Sea is a popular diving destination, particularly around the Sinai Peninsula.
North of Dahab on the Sinai coast in Egypt is located the Red Sea's Blue Hole. While it's not as big as the one in Belize, it has a dire reputation…
Risky Business
Sinai's Blue Hole is much easier to reach than the one in Belize, which requires a boat trip. Located just a few kilometers north of the Dahab beaches, it's accessible by swimming.
But don't get the wrong idea - this proximity does not make diving an easy task. In fact, its easy access and the fact that it lacks a strong current preventing divers from reaching it, makes it all the more tempting and thus - all the more dangerous.
Notoriously Dangerous
The Blue Hole in Sinai has a reputation for being extremely dangerous. In order to get permission to access it, you must be an experienced diver and be accompanied by a local guide. This reputation is due to one specific spot along the sinkhole, nicknamed "The Arch," a tunnel running under the reef, and linking the Blue Hole to the sea.
Due to the tunnel's depth and complex form it's easy to get confused. This has happened to many divers, and they often end up experiencing nitrogen narcosis, which causes disorientation and in some cases, death.
Divers Beware!
The complexity of the arch and the nitrogen narcosis-caused disorientation and hallucinations makes it a necessary condition for divers to be experienced before exploring Sinai's Blue Hole.
The dive site is one of the world's most dangerous diving spots and is estimated to have cost more than 200 scuba divers their lives. However, while the site is clearly very dangerous to divers, the damage caused to the Blue Hole by people's use of single use plastic is vastly greater.
The Deepest Hole
It was a surprise for the three explorers in the Aquatica to see such a remote spot like Belize's Blue Hole impacted so severely by pollution. However, it is not even the most remote location where human-made litter can be found.
One such point is the Mariana Trench, the world's deepest point in all its oceans. When explorers delved to the bottom of this deep pit, they found fascinating underwater creatures and geological formations, but also a noticeable amount of plastic, man-made waste.
Plastic Isn't Fantastic
A project dedicated solely to the documentation of underwater pollution is the Deep-Sea Debris Database, where divers share their knowledge for the greater good. The database is constructed by collected information about garbage that divers come across with during their diving trips.
The most common material registered in the database is plastic. Less popular are rubber, cloth, metal, and processed wood. 89% of the plastic documented in this project comes from disposable items such as bottles and plastic utensils.
Wake Up Call
Multiple research vessels have been sent by NOAA, the United States' National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to document the floor of the Mariana Trench. The pollution is devastatingly visible through their photos, with 78% of them showing sea creatures disturbed or entangled in bits of plastic.
How is it possible that plastic debris, products of human society, is found in what is quite literally the most remote location on the planet? The Mariana Trench is so far removed from human civilization the data is simply astounding. A wake up call, if ever there was one.
Where Is It All Coming From?
The pollution in Mariana Trench has been measured in a recent study indicating a higher rate than some of the most polluted waterways in China. This situation occurred by plastic breaking down to tiny particles that float downwards more easily than actual plastic products would. These small bits of debris end up on the floor of the Trench.
But it's not just garbage that's dumped straight into the sea that makes up ocean pollution. Waste thrown into rivers and even underground currents in countries nowhere near the sea may end up in the ocean.
An Island of Plastic
Just about the size of Texas and located on a stretch of water between California and Hawaii is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This is not an island made of plastic objects but rather, a massive patch made of tiny plastic particles which are in effect broken down in the form of plastic flakes.

TV on TV!
Part 2 ~ The TV Shows of the Lucyverse
Although it may seem redundant, the worlds created by Lucille Ball on radio and television frequently created and mentioned other TV shows! Here are a few from “The Lucy Show” (1962-1968).
“Lucy Puts Up a TV Antenna” (1962)
When Lucy's TV set doesn't work, she discovers that the antenna has blown off the roof. Refusing to spend extra money to have one professionally installed, she talks Viv into helping her replace it. As the episode opens, Sherman and Jerry are excited that the All-American Football Team is going to be on TV. When the reception is poor, Lucy engages in the old practice of banging on the side of the set, something she claims she learned from her late husband.
LUCY: “What did we do before television?” VIV: “We used to hit the radio.”
With Lucy on the roof, Viv yells up the chimney, “I got carried away watching Art Linkletter. Come on down Lucy. He's about to go through a lady's purse.” “The Linkletter Show” (also known as “Art Linkletter's House Party”) was seen on CBS from 1952 to 1970. Lucille Ball appeared on the show in February 1965.
“Lucy and Viv Put in a Shower” (1963)
“Where’s Lloyd Bridges when you need him?” ~ Lucy Carmichael
Bridges starred “Sea Hunt” from 1958 to 1961, a series about a scuba diver which featured extensive underwater filming, so much so that his name become synonymous with underwater adventures. Bridges was seen in all 155 episodes of the CBS series. He was also mentioned in the same context in “Lucy Buys a Boat” (1963). Lucy says she bought the boat with the hull in the water so she didn’t notice the poor shape it was in. She adds that she didn’t have Lloyd Bridges with her at the time!
“Lucy’s Sister Pays a Visit” (1963)
Lucy’s son’s lunchbox features images from the television western “Lawman,” which ran on ABC from 1958-1962. A “Lawman” lunchbox is now part of the collection of the National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. The lunchbox shows up again in “Vivian Sues Lucy” (1963).
“Lucy Gets Locked in the Vault” (1963)
Danfield TV is on the scene when Lucy and Mr. Mooney finally get out of the vault.
“Lucy and the Safe Cracker” (1963)
Demonstrating how she got locked in the vault for Larry McAdoo (William Woodeson) of Danfield TV, Lucy accidentally locks Mr. Mooney back in the bank vault again! Taking advantage of the air time, Lucy gets in a commercial for Grandma’s Candy Shop, owned by the safecracker (Jay Novello).
“Lucy and the Plumber” (1964)
Lucy and her plumber (Jack Benny) appear on the television program “Talent Discoverer's Show”.
Hosted by Greg Gregory (Willard Waterman), the show is sponsored by Kiddie Cookies, baked beans, and varnish!
Lucy was already on the show once, so this time she disguises herself as Lucretia Carmucci, the talent discoverer of the title, presenting her plumber Harry Tuttle, who plays an arrangement of Donizetti on the violin.
“Lucy Meets Danny Kaye” (1964)
Lucy writes away for tickets to “The Danny Kaye Show” but is turned down.
Kaye offers to give her a walk-on role in the telecast – but Lucy manages to steal the spotlight anyway. In 1962 and 1964 Lucille Ball guest-starred on Kaye’s CBS TV program “The Danny Kaye Show.”
Kaye telephones Bill Paley to see if he has any spare tickets to give Lucy. William S. Paley (1901-90), was the chief executive who built the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) from a small radio network into one of the foremost radio and television network operations in the United States.
“Lucy and the Beauty Doctor” (1965)
When Lucy hears about a $25 beauty treatment, she tells Mr. Mooney the money is for a doctor. When the treatment turns out to be a hidden camera show named “Boiling Point”, Lucy must do whatever she can to stop it from airing and revealing her secret to Mr. Mooney.
“Boiling Point” hosted by Dick Patterson is modeled loosely on “Candid Camera,” a TV show that started in 1948 and continues (in some form) to this day. Its heyday was from 1960 to 1967, when it was a ratings winner for CBS on Sundays at 10pm.
“Lucy in the Music World” (1965)
When Lucy takes a job in a music producer's office, she wangles her new neighbor Mel Tinker (Mel Torme) into a gig on the musical variety television show “Wing Ding”.
“Wing Ding” is hosted by Reb Foster and presents The Six Bare Feet, The Torch Bearers, The DDTs, and The Tear Ducts (Lucy and Mel) singing the plaintive ballad "My Trousseau Just Lies on the Shelf.”
“Lucy Helps Danny Thomas” (1965)
When Mr. Mooney hires Lucy to get some important papers signed at a TV studio, she finds herself dancing on Danny Thomas's TV special instead!
Although this is not a real TV program, Thomas did host “The Danny Thomas Hour” for 22 episodes in 1967. Thomas was a Desilu regular, appearing in “Make Room for Daddy” (later “The Danny Thomas Show”) as well as doing a cross-over episode with “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”.
“Lucy and Art Linkletter” (1966)
Lucy is picked from Art Linkletter's studio audience and challenged not to utter a sound for 24 hours to win $200. In January 1966, CBS aired new episodes of “Art Linkletter’s House Party” daily at 2:30pm while “I Love Lucy” was in reruns at 10:30am.
During the 24 hours, Linkletter arranges for a one-armed man to burst into Lucy's apartment waving a gun and say that a guy has been chasing him for three years. This is a reference to the hit ABC series “The Fugitive” (1963-67) on which David Janssen was on the trail of a one-armed man who killed his wife. Three weeks after this episode of “The Lucy Show” was filmed, Doris Singleton (Ruth Cosgrove on “Lucy and Art Linkletter”) guest-starred on “The Fugitive.” The series was a Quinn Martin Production. Quinn Martin was a producer at Desilu and also married Madelyn Pugh, one of Lucille Ball’s longest lasting writers.
“Lucy and the Soap Opera” (1966)
Lucy disguises herself in a number of outrageous get-ups to gain access to the reclusive writer of “Camden Cove,” her favorite soap opera, to learn how the show will turn out.
Camden Cove is described at “the typical American town” so it was probably inspired by “Peyton Place,” a prime-time soap opera which aired on ABC from 1964 to 1969. Like “Camden Cove,” it aired three nights a week and dealt with the tangled relationships found in a small American town. Danfield was compared to Peyton Place in “Lucy and Joan” (1965).
“Lucy Goes to a Hollywood Premiere” (1966)
LUCY (to Edwards): “Oh, doctor! Oh, doctor!”
Lucy disguises herself as an usher to meet celebrities. On the reception line, she asks Vince Edwards for his autograph. Vincent Edwards (1928-96) was probably best known as the title character on ABC TV’s “Ben Casey” (1961-66) which was filmed on the Desilu lot. A new episode of “Ben Casey” aired on ABC at 10pm on the night this episode of “The Lucy Show” premiered. It was directed by Marc Daniels, one of the directors of “I Love Lucy” and Jesse Wayne was the stunt coordinator, as he was for “The Lucy Show.”
“Lucy and Bob Crane” (1966)
Crane was best known as the clever Colonel Hogan in the CBS POW camp sitcom “Hogan's Heroes” (1965-1971), which was filmed at Desilu Studios.
In the episode, Crane is making a World War One film. A one-line gag features an appearance by John Banner, who played Sergeant Schultz on “Hogan’s Heroes”. He utters his famous catch-phrase from the sitcom.
SCHULTZ: “I know nothing!” CRANE: “Schultz! You're in the wrong war!”
Oscar Beregi plays Wolfgang Schmidt the director of the film. Beregi did two episodes of “Hogan's Heroes.” He was probably cast here for his resemblance to Werner Klemperer, who played Colonel Klink on “Hogan’s Heroes” who also wore a monocle.
“Lucy the Robot” (1966)
Jay North plays Mr. Mooney’s spoiled brat nephew Wendell. North was best known as the star of “Dennis the Menace” (1959-1963). During the show's final season, North played opposite Gale Gordon (Mr. Mooney) as John Wilson.
“You will keep that MENACE subdued for the next eight days!” ~ Mr. Mooney to Lucy about Wendell
“Dennis the Menace” also included a character named Theodore Mooney!
“Lucy the Gun Moll” (1966)
RUSTY: “So ya see, no one is really untouchable!”
The episode is a parody of “The Untouchables” (one of Desilu’s biggest hits) starring most of the original cast. Lucy plays a gun moll named Rusty. Robert Stack (who originally played Elliott Ness), agreed to appear as long as the character names were not the same as the original. Stack was joined by Walter Winchell, Bruce Gordon, and Steve London.
“The Untouchables” started out as a two-part pilot episode of “Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse” in April 1959. The show was introduced by Desi Arnaz and starred Robert Stack and the voice of Walter Winchell, both of whom were cast in the series, which began in October 1959 on CBS. The final episode was aired in May 1963.
“Lucy Puts Main Street on the Map” (1967)
To bring attention to the plight of the town of Bancroft, Lucy stages a spectacle on Main Street, calling all the television news programs to witness the event.
Dan McGowan (Dan Rowan) is a TV reporter with the National News Service.
“Lucy Meets Sheldon Leonard” (1967)
Mr. Mooney allows TV producer Sheldon Leonard to film a hold-up scene at the bank. Lucy thinks he is really a gangster and is determined to foil his robbery.
Over the telephone, Mr. Cheever tells Mr. Mooney that Sheldon Leonard produced “The Danny Thomas Show,” “Dick Van Dyke” and “I Spy.” Leonard himself adds “Andy Griffith” and “Gomer Pyle” to his credits. All of these shows were filmed at Desilu Studios.
The end of the episode Leonard says:
“I suddenly got this idea for a new television series. It would be about this kooky red headed girl. She works in a bank and she gets into all sorts of impossible situations and... forget it. Nobody would ever believe it.”
“Lucy Helps Ken Berry” (1968)
A dance instructor (Ken Berry) is about to default on his loan until Lucy arranges for him to be on “Ralph Story’s Los Angeles”, a local television show.
Ralph Story was well known in the Los Angeles area as a local TV personality as host of “Ralph Story’s Los Angeles” from 1963 until the late 1970s.
Ken and the his students perform “Steppin’ Out With My Baby” by Irving Berlin. For the finale, everyone sings “Pick Yourself Up” by Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields.

Starry pajamas (Sees Stars)
*= outfit has a hat, which D.A.'s pigtails stick out of.
Notes:
Headcanon that D.A. used to cut holes in all her hats when she was younger. During the first few field trips, she would always cut the holes herself, but it wasn't long before Ms. Frizzle realized D.A. had a particular fashion sense and set the outfit-maker on the bus to "always put two pigtail holes in D.A.'s hats."
At least 12 of D.A.'s outfits accomodate for her hairstyle.
My personal favorites for Dorothy Ann's alternate outfits are: Star Trek uniform, detective outfit, butterfly safari outfit, and starry pajamas.
