Final Fantasy XIV & Guild Wars 2

Normally I don't post stuff like this, however I thought it would be interesting to discuss in what I conder to be differences between both games which makes me enjoy them both so much.

FFXIV:

"Puzzle solving" combat (mechanics you have to come up with solutions for and react to).

Far more readable AoEs and mechanics (GW2 literally just has hollow circle outlines so it gets confusing when dozens of them are on the floor overlapping).

Better glamouring system (glamour prisms easier to obtain, GW2 transmutation charges can end up costing irl money if the free season pass runs out of them).

Better customization (more options even with a limited chargen. Hairstyle changes cost in game currency. ANY character changes cost irl money in GW2).

Photo mode (everyone in every game just wants to easily take screenshots of their char let's be real and GW2 does not have that).

Better raiding scene (easier to get into high end content such as raiding, GW2 it can be like pulling teeth at times to find groups. "You need experience for this job, but in order to do that you need a job to gain experience" sort of deal).

Less alt friendly but at the benefit of ALL CLASSES being playable on ONE character.

Constant updates to the graphics and textures, so the game does not look as old as it is (GW2 launched around the same time and REALLY looks its age, however pre-rendered cutscenes are looking great now).

Your character feels like your character in MSQ (GW2 your character speaks, replies mostly independently of your choices, thus at times it feels like you're playing someone else and not who you have developed yourself).

Better crafting (GW2 makes me wanna rip my eyes out and lots of people in the community agree that it can be costly and convoluted).

GW2:

Dynamic combat (things are happening on the screen all the time and is very fast paced with barely any breathing space which makes for some insane battle moments).

Active community in older content (part from base game dungeons, but Anet basically dropped those so fast themselves).

Better dye system for armors (multiple slots up to 4 on each gear piece, and a total of 642 dyes currently in game).

Account wide glamour and dye unlocks (unlock on one character, usable for all of that armor weight/collected dye).

Account wide item banking and currency wallet.

Satisfying achievement system (Rewards from achievements as well as scaling reward track for gaining purely just achievement points).

Buy once, play forever, no subscription (each expansion being the only purchase for each release, as well as the older Living World "post-patch" content) so more obtainable for general pop. who don't want to sign up for another subscription service.

New characters can hop into ANY expansion or just ignore them completely and dive into whichever content needed without having to clear an MSQ beforehand.

Generally more alt friendly (at the cost of irl money for extra character slots, as there is a max of 5 on paid accounts)

Better Player vs Player scene as well as the edition of World vs World (giant map skirmish with 3 "servers" constantly battling for domination in each season, literally running in huge groups to take over enemy castles or defending your own)

NOTE: Any instance of having to use irl money to get things in GW2, you can also convert your in game gold into their gem currency to purchase items in their store, but the exchange rate can be kinda wack.

Neither pros or cons for either:

GW2 has horizontal gearing & leveling, with 80 forever being the max level, thus gear never becomes outdated, thus making it easier for people to hop into many forms of end game content as it is released.

FFXIV has vertical gearing and leveling, which gives a goal in mind each time the new level cap is set and new gear levels are added in order to run content, so an insentive to keep active and have a goal to work towards.

GW2 has build options for each class, allowing different styles of play without the restriction of traditional roles (Tank, Healer, DPS), however there will typically always be an accepted meta build for each depending on type of content, and can cause issues of unbalanced parties when lacking specific roles.

FFXIV does not have builds, and each class plays in a specific way allowing for less flex in how each are played, but allows for FAR more security when running content, as well as allowing more focus to be placed on interesting fights with fun mechanics in my opinion.

Though at first glance, she passes for viera, she's actually half miqo'te. Luki is far shorter than what you'd expect of a female viera. She's also somewhat scruffy, and has a little (bunny-like) tail. Her miqo'te side shines through via her highly expressive ears too.

Does she answer to a "pspsps"? There's one way to find out!

She collects a lot of crystals, and enjoys spending time in nature (as long as it's not too cold), especially near water.

When not surrounded by those natural elements, she spends a lot of time at the arcades (or the Gold Saucer) playing games, and frequently attends nightclubs (especially places/events rock/metal/alternate or cyberpunk themed), and festivals of pretty much all kinds.

Singing is something of a secret passion of hers. And whilst she'll sometimes brave karaoke after a few drinks, you'd be hard-pressed to catch even a hint of song leave her lips. She loves to sing, but lacks the confidence to do so in any kind of sober setting.

Less of a secret, is that she loves bunnies! And while most viera may not appreciate being likened to wild rabbits, Luki takes any such comparisons as high praise.

I have a problem with getting too close to NPCs before starting a conversation and I just thought they looked so cute standing this close 💕

End fight was so techy that I put back on the Len Kagamine glam... and then was stuck it in for the ending cutscenes for the expansion 🤣 Its hard to take it seriously when Meow looks like that 😭

Right after finishing MSQ we went and climbed both jumping puzzles in Tuliyollal 💕

Final thoughts are just that I really enjoyed this expansion and going through it with my friend 🥳 Time zone differences made us go super slow through it when all the other expansions I have sprinted through in a few days to see everything but it was super nice to go through it and talk about the story as it happened! 💕 I loved the new introduced characters and enjoyed the story a lot!

Also never forgiving Square for introducing Otis and making me love him. Then he died in the same play session as meeting him for me and my friend. My little robot lover heart is crying 😭 Also Cahciua 😭

Thoughts on how Robin & Kylar would play ffxiv

Robin:

Start playing at mid shadowbringer.

Lalafell (gender same with their irl gender). Have tried hyur once on a sub character but soon found they're more fond of their little lala popoto.

Play on console, can only play the game in controller.

Mostly prefer casual, slightly modern glamour, but have one set of high-fantasy adventurer-ish glamor for msq.

Is in a big FC, but have a few friends good enough to do daily roulettes with.

Hangout with these people at their FC house regularly.

If Robin has to sell their console and quit the game these friends will genuinely be worried of them.

Have tried most content in game except ultimates.

Casual raid player, usually clear the current tier within a month from release.

Don't have a static but is good enough to clear with random people on pf.

Mainly play magical range dps, can play both 3 magic dps job fairly well. Have max leveled at least 1 job in all categories but haven't maxed all job.

Don't own any online store item, but have a fairly good collection of in-game collectibles (mounts, minions, gears, etc.)

Don't have their personal estate but owns a apartment at Limsa. Indoor decoration doesn't involve complicated techniques but is hearty and clearly a lot of efforts and thoughts have been put into it.

Enjoy showing pc the world of Eorzea and (especially) their apartment.

Have tried convincing pc to also play ffxiv at least once.

Have dreamed about living in a place like their in-game apartment in real life with pc more than once.

Started playing at ARR release.

Solo player, empty friend list, in a solo FC.

Is in a lot of people's black list.

Started as bard main but switched to dancer after shb. Maxed all jobs but bought skip for most of them. Did all skipped job quest later in new game +.

Other than msq and chronicles first clear, they only do contents that absolutely does not involve another player (island sanctuary, criterion dungeons, etc.). Most of the time they just stay in their FC house (doors locked).

FC house interior is not very sfw.

HEAVY mod user, have enough mods (both sfw & nsfw) installed to get them perma banned by se instantly if there's a screenshot with their id on get leaked.

Started as a cat boy but soon modded their character into their crush at the time, currently their wol looks exactly like pc.

Actually paid people online to make hairstyle and face mod of pc.

Heavy fantasia user as they would like to see pc in different race and can't really choose between pc with cat ears and bunny ears and dragon horns.

If pc has any of the TF Kylar will have a paid mod of that TF. Except cat TF, in which case Kylar just fantasiaed into a miqo'te, but will have the tail modded if pc is demonic cat.

All the mods they commissioned are private.

Their screenshot folder size have exceeded game file size long time ago.

Have an alt on separate account modded into themselves to eternal bond with their main and do nsfw screenshots. Think double month sub and expansion fee is like nothing comparing to get "eternally bonded" with their love.

Do found some sort of comfort after their parents' tragedy in ffxiv's story.

The End of Living Memory

As the year comes to an end, I have finally completed the main scenario quest of Dawntrail. The story concluded with a bittersweet ending, and I even cried during the final moments, especially when the music played in the last zone. It’s still more lighthearted compared to Endwalker and Shadowbringers.

I wasn’t able to draft anything for the year-end blog post here, but treat this as one, even though I’ve already posted it this year. (≧ω≦)

My partner and I completed the Starlight Celebration for 2024 before finishing the Dawntrail during Christmas week, marking the final moments of my WoL's snow-white hair color. We wore the same mix-and-match event outfits during that time, and I think they looked cute!

They made a new event location for the Starlight Celebration and it was so pretty and cozy. Though, I must say that I only hangout there for about twice. I wish I had more time to take more photos there but there's still next event!

After doing the seasonal event, we continued the rest of the main scenario quests with the new hair of my WoL and I couldn't help but to squeal on how adorable the capybaras in-game, LOL! Too bad I have to grind to get it myself for a mount. TT

We managed to finish DT before Christmas Eve, and we are now catching up on other optional in-game content. We might also tackle the post-MSQ stuff in the next few weeks. Right now, I’m focusing on farming shared FATEs to collect the framer's kits I want for my portraits and adventure plate. EW and ShB feel much grindier compared to DT, though.

I think 2023 still had the longest sessions I've ever spent playing this game, even though I was still a sprout. I accomplished so much back then, including doing some ARR Extremes synced and cleared them! I was so crazy. But now, I’m leaning more toward chill, relaxing activities. My anxiety has gotten a lot worse, though. This year, I managed to tackle high-level trials and dungeons as a tank and healer. I also completed MSQ dungeons in DT as a healer, going in blind. I’ve become more confident in those roles, but I still struggle with anxiety. I would love to try the Chaotic Raid someday. I hope I can do it with patient people, just like when I was doing EX in ARR. There's no guarantee, though. I need to get better gear first and practice PCT more.

On the flip side, I bought a mini photo book for my FFXIV photo memories to at least immortalize those moments offline, as this game is so precious to me. I love how the first few pictures turned out, and I used one of the earliest pictures of my WoL when she was still a Miqo'te back in ARR as its cover. I would love to fill this album with in-game photo memories and look back on it someday. (ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ.ﾟ I might get a better printer next time, but for now, it did a good job. Maybe I'll add some stickers too, lol.

I’ve met cool people this year, even though I haven’t been able to connect with them much lately, and I think that will stay the same. I’m grateful to have been a part of their activities and even played with them in other games. If they ever see and read this, I just want to say thank you for spending time with me, even if it was only for a short while.

Journey Retold: My First Days of Adventuring

So, my hardest exam had just passed (and I did pass it, gladly), and I had also finished Endwalker on 18th of December, which means that I can go back to writing about my experiences in the critically-acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV once again! I will talk about EW when I will reach it during this series of diaries, however.

Btw, now this series of entries has a name! It's 'Journey Retold'! It came to my mind quite suddenly but I really like the sound of it.

And now, without fruther ado, let' me look back at my first days of adventure in La Noscea!

My second day begun with me finally leaving Limsa Lominsa, not before taking the blue quest at Arcanist Guild as I was instructed to by my two companions. Now, I don't remember how was I actually doing that quest, but I remember really liking the whole quest-line. I found K'lyhia to be a fun character, and her growth during the story quite nice. The conclusion to the questline was also very satisfying.

Anyways, I remember starting the main story quest at Summerfold Farms, then getting side-tracked by Arcanist quest... which resulted in me opening half of the map of entire La Noscea in a day. Yes, even the areas that were too high level for my level 11 lalafell without a proper equipment. Yes, I was that stubborn and I also wanted to see more areas this place had to offer that badly. You just can't help it when you are especially fond of exploring fictional worlds.

But according to my screenshots, I eventually came back to MSQ after I made a safe return to Summerfold Farms from Costa del Sol on the same day. Here I ran around the area, helping to get people to work and to make sure the oranges got delivered in time. Then time came to investigate a grotto nearby...

I am the waves that bear. I am the winds that guide. I am the evening stars. I am the morning sky. I am born of the sea. And there shall I die.

As my character turned around, he saw a peculiar white-haired catgirl approach... what was the race's name again? Meekotee?... Mino...te? Ah, right, "miqo'te". A white-haired miqo'te woman with a branch for a weapon approached me, mentioning something about the way the citizens of Limsa Lominsa live with the wordes carved into the stone in the middle of the grotto. But before she could say more, a giant rock-like monster ran inside the cave and we had to fight it.

This was my introduction to instanced duties. I don't really remember seeing those in MMOs I've played through before, but maybe I am misremembering or something, but it definitely felt new to me. Either way, we made a quick work of the frenzied goobbue (that's the name of the rock monster from what I've gathered later) and it seemed to have dropped something... some blue crystal, to be precise. Pi picked it up, the head started to hurt, and then he seemingly got transported into a dark void.

Some weird sigil appeared underneath my character's feet, and the blue crystal got inserted into one of the six slots. "Aha, we need to collect those to progress the story", - I thought immediately, because I was already familiar and comfortable with that sort of progression in other games.

Then the dark skies clouded, and stars begun to fall from above. I didn't understand yet what that meant, and frankly I didn't give it much significance at the time, because immediately after, I heard a familiar voice...

Hear... Feel... Think... Crystal bearer...

I am Hydaelyn. All made one.

A gargantuan crystal was now right in front of Pi as he floated through the void. The crystal introduced herself as Hydaelyn, and told my character to go banish the Darkness with the power that was now bestowed to him, and soon after, he left the place to return back to the grotto.

This was the first scene that captivated me in a way. It's nothing special, but the huge shiny crystal of light talking to me with a gentle, almost motherly voice really did make me go "woah" at it all first time I saw it.

Also right then my friends asked how far was I into the story, and once I told them I talked to a giant crystal, they...

The player of the self-proclaimed Emo Catboy: That's mom, don't forget her. The player of the stern-looking Auri man: Yeah that's mom. Say hi to her for me.

"A mom, huh? Sure enough, I will keep it in mind", - was my reaction, and I continued the MSQ. Ended up finding out that one dude who couldn't delived the oranges in time had gone to a cave with his pals and got beaten up by some Serpent Reavers guys who knew him previously. I had shown up quickly enough, the dude's head was still on his shoulders, and I did find it funny these grown-ass guys just didn't laugh outloud at a little child with chubby little body, but again, lalafells are just dwarves of this universe so they have to be used to seeing them.

Some Organization XIII looking ass then does an evil chant (and you know it's evil because it's written in red), summons a Golem and scares Serpent Reavers off. Pi fights and successfully defeats it, the black hooded guy vanishes and the white-haired miqo'te from earlier arrives to help the beaten up guy with the relation to Reavers. Then Pi's head suddenly starts to hurt and... a scene change occurs? The woman is in Limsa, going around the city, but...

...the lesser moon, Dalamud, that fell from heavens the five years ago, was still in the sky.

Oh my god, we can now look into others' memories for different characters' flashbacks, dope.

Either way, once Pi wakes up, the miqo'te woman gets a call from someone. Sure, medival fantasy with walkie-talkies, I will take it. And before she goes, she introduces herself as Y'shtola. Now, it took me a while to figure out how to actually read it, originally I thought it was "Ee-shtoe-lah", but it was actually "Yash-toe-lah" all this time. It's a nice name.

After going back and forth for a next hour or so, I decided to end this playsession. I picked it up the next day. My friends wondered if I was enjoying the game so far and I replied with an "yes, but running around on foot is tiring". That's when the person controlling the white-haired lizard man decided to "Uber" me.

The fact they chose a bike and then decided to take off into the skies made me think of Harry Potter lol.

But yeah, we got around MSQ much quicker that way. They also showed me a few other mounts like a giant gorilla and a flying armchair that made me think so much about Dist from Tales of the Abyss lol. Then my other friend joined and was helping me with the enemies while chilling and chatting with two of us over VC. He too was a Free Trial player at the time.

Now, nothing much of note had happened during that time. We (Pi and Y'shtola) fought the hooded guy again and killed him. He left behind a purple crystal that I didn't really want to pick up (but my character was interested in it), but it had disintegrated before my lalafell could touch it.

After that I had my first encounter with the Admiral of Limsa Lominsa and... hoo boy, she was testing myself. I am sorry, but that woman is incredibly badass and I wouldn't mind it at all if she was my companion for the rest of my life. Anyways, she acknowledged Pi's recent successes and invited him to a banquet, where she found out Pi was like one of those legendary Warriors of Light who no one remembers but to whom the entirety of Eorzea owes their lives to, all because of the crystal from Hydaelyn. And then another headache happens to show a flashback back from the time Battle at Carteneau occured. It had a lot of characters I haven't seen yet, but I knew I will meet them eventually because they seemed too important to be already dead lol.

Once Pi woke up, he got told that Admiral has a mission for him, a mission that requires one to travel to different capitals - Gridania and Ul'dah, which were the other starting cities.

And thus we took off into the air and traveled to the lands beyond...

How many works do you have on Ao3? Currently at 23! 22 for Final Fantasy XIV and 1 original work.

What's your total Ao3 word count? 182,581 at the moment! But I have thousands upon thousands more in WIPs that I should probably post at some point. lol

What fandoms do you write for? Mostly Final Fantasy XIV for the WoL x G'raha ship, but I'd love to publish some Karlach/Tav fics at some point for Baldur's Gate 3. (I have a high elf wizard that's in love with her.)

What are your top 5 fics by Kudos? 1. Heat - a heat fic. Pure smut. Very horny. 2. Delights - a collection of short kink fics. Also very horny. 3. Fantasies - a visual novel about sexual fantasies. 4. Here at Memory's End - the first wolgraha fic I've ever written. Slowburn love story from ARR to the end of Endwalker. 5. Reflections - A collection of shorter fics that fit in with Aedric & G'raha's story, as well as other MSQ characters. (Some of my best prose is in here, in my opinion!)

Do you reply to comments? I do! Sometimes it takes me several days/weeks/months, but I always try to. Sometimes social batteries are low and it takes me a bit, but I read and appreciate every single one, and go back and read comments all the time to feel loved.

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? My Lightwarden AU, Unrequited. It's a bad end to Shadowbringers in which Aedric turns into a Lightwarden. It's angsty, but also supreme monsterfucker. I went full-blast monsterfucker on this one. Still a favorite to this day.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Hm. Most of them? lol. I am a romance/fluff/erotica writer. They all have happy endings.

Do you get hate on fics? Not really on fics themselves, but on social media. I just block though. *shrugs*

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Oh honey. Yes. (That's an understatement.) I seem to specialize in "soft nerds who are into BDSM/kink". I love soft service dom/sub who learns to let go and enjoy. I love the desperately horny. I love the enthusiastic consent. I love soul mates who fuck each other as if every breath, every touch, every movement of body against body is proof that they are here. That they are together. That they are loved and safe. One of my favorite fics I've ever written is Verdancy, an introduction of sorts of Aedric & G'raha's dom/sub BDSM journey. Though the most on-brand quintessential Aedric & G'raha smut is definitely Bibliophilia, in which the two nerds fuck in a library.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've ever written? I do not write crossovers, but I wouldn't be opposed to it! I'm not sure which crossover though lol

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge.

Have you ever had a fic translated? Not to my knowledge, but I'd be 100% okay with it if I'm asked first!

Have you ever co-written a fic before? In a way? I have a small WIP with my friend (he doesn't have an XIV Tumblr, but he's on AO3 as Indasha) in which our two WoLs and G'raha are bound together as the three Fates. So a bit of a poly ship. (Gee, Aedric, how come you get two catboys? lol) My friends and I had a vaguely Greek Gods AU. If people want, I can post snippets and screenshots from it? What's your all-time favorite ship? Seeing as how this is my XIV/writing blog, it's very obviously WoL x G'raha Tia. 🥺 They mean so much to me.

What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? I intend to finish every single of my WIPs, and I never consider them abandoned. Ever. Instead, I'll give a preview of what I'm currently working on, when I have time to write lately: - Vampire AU (we all know this lol) - A fic about shibari/bondage called Vermilion. G'raha ties Aedric up. G'raha POV. - His Inflorescence, part 2. I'm over halfway done.

What are your writing strengths? I think my strengths are showing moments of intimacy and vulnerability. People have told me I'm good at combining the horny with the soft, too.

What are your writing weaknesses? Writing scenes with more than two characters lol Also, dialog. I always feel like I'm horrible at it.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I speak French, but don't know where that would ever come up in my fics? (Maybe Ishgardian curse words lol)

First fandom you wrote for? Oh boy. When I was 17 years old, I wrote two fanfics for Axis Powers Hetalia. I liked Sweden/Finland. I'm no longer in that fandom, but they're still a very cute ship to me, even after 13 years.

Favorite fic you've ever written? While I love most of my fics, Hunger, my Vampire AU, is my favorite of all time for many reasons. It's the first fic in which I wrote an original plot that's not influenced by canon events at all. It's going to be the length of a novel, when finished, most likely. Once it's done, I may stick it back into the writing soup and let it simmer and see if an original novel comes out of it. Who knows.

One of my friends from ff14 passed away mid-April. I only found out because his house that we shared got demo'd this last round. He frequently logged on just to make sure it didn't get demo'd. I was already worried when I hadn't seen him for two weeks, but I got really worried then. So I messaged him on Discord, and a few days later, I got a message from his family with what happened.

It was weird telling our free company. I was sort of the only person who talked to him very often. So I got a lot of condolences and it felt..awkward.

Between the first reply and the one with more details, I hoped it was a cruel prank. Maybe someone stole his Discord info, or something. He wasn't exactly a prankster, but I thought maybe something awful happened irl and he turned mean? I dunno. I would have forgiven him probably. Even with proof I feel like any minute I'll see him log on and feel the relief wash over me.

It's weird when an online friend dies. My memory is shit, and I feel like I didn't know him at all in a way. I know he collected Miku and Touhou figs. I know he had a lot of tattoos and what style they were in. But when his family asked if I had any fun stories or anything, I felt like I was lying. I couldn't remember any single moment. I spent so much time with him doing treasure maps, fashion, deep dungeon runs, MSQ prog. And yet I couldn't remember anything. I somehow never managed to take any screenshots together. I never wrote down anything in my ff14 journal besides my garden schedule. I was able to tell them how we met in-game, because that's always going to stick in my mind.

He last logged in the day before he died. I know I was online that day, but I don't remember if I talked to him.

I didn't know what he sounded like. I never got to hug him. I didn't even know he was only a couple states away! He never indicated that he was depressed, so I never considered telling him how I would do anything for him. I would have driven there, any time, to meet up.

I feel so stupid for crying so much. Every couple hours I just...I can't stand it.

He committed suicide. He did it the day after he last logged in. I thought, after surviving a couple already, that I would be smarter and know when someone was considering it. I thought that with how candid he always was with his feelings, he'd tell me something was wrong. It's so selfish to think I could have done anything, and also very normal. I just wish I'd kept better track of our conversations. I wish I'd made sure to write down when we hung out in a party.

He didn't have a facebook or a anything, there's no way for me to read about him unless I ask his family. No way for me to look at pictures or posts or anything written by him besides the message in my ffxiv house book, and his tattoo posts on the SA forums.

I re-made one of my retainers in his image, in his favorite glamour. I'm trying to bid on his previous house plot. I'm trying not to talk about him in FC chat, but the house came up when people were talking about last second bids. It's just weird. I feel weird in our FC now. I'm already made fun of by at least one member for being "the oversharer." Everyone already knows I'm sensitive as fuck. It's hard to act normal.

Just a quick collection of old screenshots of Bera I slowly want to move onto here! This Balthier top one at sunset is still one of my favourite screenshots of him, despite this being before learning about posing and shaders (and me barely playing Bard...)

All of the ones I chose for this post are before I learned about any fancy screenshot stuff other then in game things. That one in the Peaks I always remember because the dramatic lighting is so lovely when Ixion is around (I didn't actually know about it, I just noticed the pretty weather when I was there for MSQ - you can actually see the electricity from Ixion in the corner of that screenshot, and it was my first time doing a fancy hunt.)
