Scrapitalism

Someone asked me what the first steps would be that I'd take to dismantle capitalism and its greed. Some of these are ideas on how to sustain people within the current capitalist system while working towards transition.

Understand, first, that I am not a communist. I think we need to move away from using such terms to using ones that are less divisive but still communally respective. Communalism, perhaps? Whatever the word is, people need to stop having a hissy over the community-minded aspects of any kind of socialism. No one wants to take your personhood away. We just need to recognise that hyper-individualism is partly why we're in the boat we're in, with more self-serving consideration than acceptance of what's best for the wider good.

This list is by no means exhaustive, and is subject to change, alter, augment, and grow, as we all should.

Let's start off with:

Make offshoring of wealth illegal.

Seize those assets for collective good use in the communities from which they were thieved.

Make it illegal and impossible for any private donations of any kind to any political party.

Dismantling of monopolies, and preventing them from existing in future.

Prevention of personal and corporate wealth over a certain amount, unless the corporate wealth is being put back into the business for its good.

Implement a wealth tax on individuals and corporations.

Increase minimum wage to a living wage and tie it to inflation.

Fully funded universal healthcare and education from cradle to grave.

Implement a basic income to ensure everyone a safety net.

And:

Promote worker cooperatives, democratic workplaces, and strengthen labour laws and workers' rights.

Implement strong environmental regulations and shift to renewable energy.

End the criminalisation of homelessness and decriminalise poverty.

Prevent the profit-based motives attached to housing, provide affordable housing and rent control.

Cease exploiting natural resources and promote sustainable practices.

End the privatisation of public goods and services, and transition to a system where resources and means of production are held in common, rather than owned by individuals or corporations

Promote community-based economic development, local ownership, participatory budgeting, and democratic decision-making processes.

Progressive taxation to redistribute wealth.

Invest in public services and social programs to address poverty and inequality.

Phase out any legal frameworks that allow corporations to exist as entities with rights and privileges.

Transition to a system where the primary goal is meeting human needs and sustainability, rather than generating profit.

Cancel all debts, both personal and national, and transition to a system that does not rely on debt-based financing.

Transition to a system where work is not seen as a commodity, and people are not forced to sell their labour to survive.

Phase out the marketing and advertising industries, which perpetuate consumerism and fuel the growth of capitalism.

Abandon pursuit of economic growth as a measure of success, and focus on sustainability, well-being, and social justice.

Limit executive compensation.

Implement policies to prevent tax evasion and avoidance.

Lewis Hamilton: California. The biggest star, the biggest economy, the biggest ego. They say California doesn't need America (it does), they say Lewis doesn't need F1 (he does).

Valtteri Bottas: Northern California. So much talent, so exciting, so essential to the future of America... Hang on. Sorry guys, I’m getting a call from James Vowles telling me that NorCal isn’t its own state. (Fuck this shit, SoCal would be nothing without NorCal.)

George Russell: New York. An ambitious go-getter, but in a strangely old-fashioned way. It's about the suit and the PowerPoint and the grind and the fear that you're a generation too late to live your dreams.

Checo Perez: Texas. A big bustling state that gets a lot done, scores a lot of points, but never cracks star tier. Depending on your perspective either surprisingly conservative or surprisingly progressive (being surprised that checo is pro life has the same energy as being surprised Texas didn't go blue in whichever election).

Lando Norris: Oregon. Hear me out, everyone is always on about how Portland is the new San Francisco, the New Seattle, the next big thing, and then you go to Portland and it's... fine, i guess. Overhyped and never going to blow up the way people promise it will, plus coasting harder on generational wealth and privilege than anybody would care to admit sorry this one got really spicy for some reason.

Sebastian Vettel: Massachusetts. It’s vintage, it’s a classic, it’s a fucking original, it’s fucking timeless, it basically invented America, show some fucking respect. (The RBR era Seb / Tom Brady’s New England Patriots comparison left as an exercise to the reader).

Kevin Magnussen: New Hampshire. The “because fuck you, that’s why” of states. The only state with no seatbelt laws. You drive over the border and the first stop is the state liquor store. I fucking love New Hampshire it doesn’t take shit from anybody it smears the whole paddock in its post-retirement book and then comes out of retirement and scores P5.

Nicholas Latifi and Lance Stroll: Canada. It’s a state. FIFTY-FOUR FORTY OR FIGHT (sorry if I have any canadian mutuals who are offended by the threat to invade and annex your country know that I love you and am joking).

Fernando Alonso: Pennsylvania. Even more original than Massachusetts, the Declaration of Independence was literally signed there, but now it’s kind of washed-up and post-industrial and extremely bleak. I’m so sorry :( 

Carlos Sainz: Illinois. Dependable and reliable. Chicago’s a major city but it’s not actually a Big Deal State. It’s shockingly forgettable for how big it is. It’s the Holds-the-Record-for-Most-Points-Without-a-Race-Win of cities / states. I’m sorry fam this is my truth.

Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda: Florida. It’s the future. It’s going to win the 2025 WDC. It’s going to be underwater in 5 years. It’s already underwater. It’s misunderstood. It’ll fucking fight you. It’s Florida.

Alex Albon: Iowa. Ok I broke my rule i’ve never been to Iowa but. Iowa gets ignored by all of America for 95% of the time until it’s time for the primaries and then suddenly everyone descends on Iowa like locusts trying to win them over and then they vanish to go back to not caring about them anymore. That’s Alex Albon with RBR. 

Mick Schumacher: the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia). Trying to live up to the legendary past. Trying to create a better future. Never drops the political persona. Either extremely beloved or extremely (unfairly!!!!) behated. 

Zhou Guanyu: It’s still a little early to parse his vibes but I’m getting a lot of cool, confident, levelheaded, the paddock fits have been top notch, he’s happy to be here without being over-eager, I’m going Colorado.

oh lowkey there are. so many. especially for fandoms i'm not interested in anymore? i have a 36k supernatural coffee shop au sitting in my drafts that i am never ever going to finish. i have a 1d/narry wip that i posted 3/4 chapters of to ao3 (it is now anon lol) that i DEFINITELY won't finish, because since i started it i have become a big henry steels hater<3

there aren't enough pairings with divorced energy if i only pick from the current grid so like. i'm including former drivers if one of the people involved in the couple is still on the current grid. when i speak about reconciliation i don't mean getting back together i mean /these two people are able to be in the same room as each other and can hold an adult conversation without cracking in some way/ (my parents couldn't even look at each other for a long-ass while (YEARS) and they share two kids)

obv 1 is brocedes like. it doesn't really need explaining. the divorce was ugly, nico was the one to file for it (he retired after all), and so far they have not reconciled. but it's cooled off now, they needed the distance and they probably still need it but it doesn't feel as volatile anymore

nr 2 is just as obvious. pierre/esteban. one minute they were happy, the next pierre is fucking out of there. very ugly energies. one can only speculate what caused it, but it still feels raw somehow. pierre filed for divorce 101%. potential for reconciliation? uhhh strong question mark.

nr 3 is seb/mark. the marriage turned reaaaaaally ugly at some point and couldn't hold despite couples therapy and then at some point they ended it when mark left. very much mutual divorce. let's get this over with we both deserve better. they are very much reconciled by now. will even laugh when asked about it but the bitterness is gone. they healed and moved on

nr 4 OK hear me out weird one bc party b isn't even a driver and KINDA cursed but. dan/christian. DAN WAS SO OVER IT AND HE FILED FOR DIVORCE AND CHRISTIAN WAS LIKE BABY NO DON'T LEAVE BUT DAN WAS LIKE. LOL. LMAO. nr 5 seb/ferrari. yes i know that makes only sense conceptually but it has everything when it comes to divorce vibes. it has the highs, the lows, the things that were meant to happen and then never worked out, the effort invested on one side that was lost to the other, the different visions for the future, the sour taste of resentment and the sweet taste for things you still cling to, dreams you have to let go of that gave you hope and motivation and comfort at some point (thinking of seb's earliest race memory here) things that gave your life stability and direction until they suddenly stopped. there was the ugly period, the separation, and now there is the healing.
