21. How many kudos total did you get this year? Oh gosh, quite a few especially since I went from not posting for a year, in a small(ish) fandom to well, big active fandom. I do still get the occasional kudo on my old stuff, but if I'm just counting stuff from this year: 1,575. Which that's .. a lot of people. I'm so glad people resonate with my silly fics ;_;

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year? Ohh this is a good one! Definitely maybe the friends I've made while writing <3 Especially since I feel very awkward and shy (which, seems ironic since I'm a chronic yapper...) but that people resonated with my writing and I was able to make friends because of that, that's the best surprise of all!!

How many words have you written this year? Between what's posted to ao3 and my current wip it's sitting at 270,686! Pretty wild to me considering that last year that number was 0. and the year before that...

17. Your favorite character to write this year? Hmmm. Well Xie Lian is easiest to write and what I've written the most of so I gotta give it to him. I will say the runner up might be Mu Qing. I haven't written a lot of him but I was surprised at how much fun I did have when I wrote his POV chapter in NFNF. So fuckin messy.

(un)forbidden words “Gege?” Xie Lian froze mid-yawn when Hua Cheng’s gentle voice echoed in his mind in the middle of a tedious dispute resolution meeting in the heavens.

let me be the one you crave Xie Lian painted stroke after stroke with his calligraphy brush, willing his hand not to tremble.

collecting the shards of our broken souls The sunlight was a dusty golden through the broken window when Xie Lian returned to Puqi Shrine.

look at me, don't look away Xie Lian was all alone until morning. He was alone in his own ruined temple with a black sword full of resentful spirits and a deadly silk band for company.

take my hand, take my whole life too Xie Lian sipped the last quarter of his Long Island iced tea, then carefully blew bubbles with his straw, trying to have them form between the leftover melting ice cubes.

when only moonlight watches you Hua Cheng lay on his side, propped up on his elbow, and gazed at his sleeping husband.

The Ghost King Has A Secret (which has nothing to do with ketchup.) Xie Lian stared at the neat maze-like pattern of red in the middle of his bedroom floor. His precious paintbrushes were soaked scarlet, and his whole room smelled like... ketchup.

unraveled like royal silks “Your Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Xian Le, The Prince Who Pleased the Gods,” Mu Qing drawled, leaning smugly at the doorway, “Does Dianxia feel powerful and proud in his fancy robes again?”

let dreams be embers Xie Lian nuzzled Hua Cheng's pillow sleepily. 

look at me, don't look away (ch3, because I kinda liked this beginning kfjjkdgd) The next evening was clear and starry. A taut silence wrapped delicately around the temple like a sheer robe on a lovers’ secret rendezvous night.

HmmmMMMmmmMMmmmm I think I use a lot of dialogues and close-up descriptions of actions/environment...

I’m excluding my original publications and just using my fanfiction.

1. how sweetly you hold me, TGCF

Xie Lian is in the middle of attempting to dice a pepper with a butcher’s knife—and failing miserably—when Hua Cheng slides up, slips his arms around Xie Lian’s waist, and plasters himself to his back in their little kitchen on Mount Taicang.

2. gravity breaking our kneecaps, TGCF

Two weeks Mu Qing has worked for His Highness.

3. all that defines me (is falling away), TGCF

Xie Lian’s dream hangs over him like a miasma when he wakes—a choking pressure around his neck; a flutter of red curtains; hands holding his against a dice cup; grief colder and deeper than an ocean.

4. use you as a warning sign, TGCF

The anniversary of his mother’s death is the one day a year Mu Qing allows the world to grind to a halt.

5. pieces of you: alt-ending, TGCF

They say nothing as they walk back to the inn, but Xie Lian can feel the way the two men at his sides vibrate with their discovery.

They don’t have the money for an elaborate wedding, but it wouldn’t suit them anyway.

A strong beam of light, like the sun breaking over a mountain range, erupts at the ascension gate, a shockwave of thunder rumbling the flagstones and palaces and blowing stray strands of Nangong Jie’s hair back from her face.

9. all these colors fade, TGCF

Xie Lian is covered in a film of sweat from his ongoing heat, skin paler than normal, sickly.

10. plum blossom, TGCF

It begins as a perfectly ordinary day: with a haunted manor deep in the woods.

Ahhhhh…I like to ground people as soon as I can, for the most part? Establish person, place, and/or sensory details. My MFA program trained me to write 1,000-word-or-under scenes, so I tend to hop straight into the action. In medias res whenever I can. Minimal exposition.
