As they breach the courtyard, Tara softly gasps, her face lighting up as she takes in all the bright colors and gaiety of the festival. Since she’s been here, she wasn’t aware of anything like this taking place in the palace. Sure, there were the meals in the dining hall where all the palace nobility dined together and regaled each other with stories, but those didn’t come close to the frivolity before them. Her head swiveled around as she took in all the details, excitement starting replacing her desolate feelings from earlier.
She glanced down as Loki’s large hand covered hers, her thumb reflexively reaching up to stroke his in kind. Tara flashed a smile up to the god and moved half a step closer to him so they didn’t get separated as they made their way through the throng of nobility, respectfully parting to make way for their king. She courteously nodded to acknowledge any greetings that were actually paid to her, whether on purpose or just because they had made eye contact.
Once they arrived at the lush food offerings, awestruck eyes took in the various selections before plucking a large, plump berry with her free hand from a colorful tray of fruit and taking a bite. It was much juicier than she was expecting and she hummed at the vibrant flavor, hastily wiping at her lips before the juice could make a mess.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the women dancing across the way, combined with some of the looks from other nobles they passed, and suddenly felt underdressed. “If I knew we were going to a party, I would’ve dressed nicer.” She murmured and inspected her simple attire, randomly chosen when she changed out of her nightgown. “Why didn’t you ever tell me this was coming up? What all are we celebrating here?”
The weremagi peeked up at the god’s expression, his smile spreading to her and helping her relax more as they approached the courtyards. She chuckled fondly when he mentioned venturing to find desserts. “That is a detour I’d be happy to take. Honestly though… I’ll follow you just about wherever just to be able to walk around. Hey, maybe I’ll finally learn more about where everything is in here.” She gave an honest laugh and looked up at Loki for a moment before turning back to the expansive hallway, taking in the details of the walls and decor. She had no reason to go many places, so she never really explored the expansive palace except for where she frequented and their immediate areas.
As they got closer, she could faintly hear laughter and maybe some music, and started to smell something savory in the air. She couldn’t quite put her finger on what exactly it was, but it was starting to make her mouth water. “So is this to celebrate something, or just to party for the sake of partying?” She questioned curiously, peering ahead to try to spot their destination and see what sort of festivities they would be joining.

Tara sighed in relief as she was finally granted leave from their shared rooms. She made direct eye contact with the guard who was stationed outside the door while she was on her “house arrest” of sorts, looking like the cat who caught the canary. He rolled his eyes at her expression and she mentally stuck her tongue out at him before facing forward to continue following Loki.
She quietly took in their path down the corridor, relishing the stretch in her leg muscles as they strolled ahead. Loki’s strict bed rest order policy had made her feel a bit stiff, so she was overcompensating a little by over-flexing her ankles and feet every couple of steps just to feel the extra pull in her calves. She was confused though when he didn’t immediately turn towards the palace gardens.
“Oooh…” She couldn’t hide the interest in her voice at the prospect of choosing their destination. She drummed her fingers against his arm, still intertwined with hers, as she briefly weighed the options. The gardens was what was promised, but some kind of event with other people around could be just the pick-me-up she needed to get back to feeling normal. Or as normal as she could, being a completely different species from everyone else on this planet
“Why don’t we try the courtyards? Sounds like it could be fun.” Her tone sounded more like she were asking permission or for his opinion rather than picking one of his offers. “And maybe if we have time, if you’re done with your duties for the day, we could hit up the gardens as well.”
tara’s mention of his duties presents him a brief wave of annoyance given his recent mood. with his mind wrapped around the events to come, loki was becoming more and more EXASPERATED with them. perhaps he should follow the young weremagi in her pursuit of truly enjoyable leisure.
❛they’ll likely have food. we can enjoy a meal and stroll the gardens. I think today’s schedule can wait. ❜ the god adorns a growing smile and they continue on down the majestic halls. many memories were buried within the walls and flooring of these walkways, both fond and not so. while it still deteriorates over time much like a human’s, the god’s memories take far longer timespans to do so. loki often cursed that fact. though to himself he vowed not to let ill thoughts overtake what could be a comfortable evening. ❛ - although if they lack anything SWEET I might take a detour to the kitchens. ❜ the suddenly famished - at - the - thought god smirked.

“Loki, I’m fine.” She insisted, but she couldn’t stop her lips from twitching into a smile. She took his hand to let him pull her from her seat next to him, smoothing out some wrinkles from her soft tunic as she stood. “And I have been for, like, three days, but somebody,” she spiked a pointed look at him, “posted guards outside the chamber doors while he was gone so I couldn’t go on this walk by myself. Humans can be more resilient than you think, ya know.” She weaved her arm through his, ready to follow his lead, and gestured in front of her with the other. “And I’m not even a regular human, I’m a weremagi!”
She paused as saying that out loud made her think of her old friends again. She then heard the voice of her own subconscious whispering at her, like when she was trapped in her own mind when they had attempted that mental training last week. Unfortunately, that voice had been very prevalent since then, feeding into her sad memories and ultimately pushing her towards the breakdown she had earlier. Stop…, she thought her herself, we’re not doing this now. I am done feeling like this. Her back straightened out as as once again forced herself to stop thinking negatively.
“Loki, our… your bed chambers are beautiful and this is a lovely place to live, and I’m very thankful that you are sharing them with me. But I swear to god if I don’t get out of these four walls, I am going to lose it… Again.” Her hazel eyes flicked back up to him as she gave their intertwined arms a gentle tug.
loki laughs then, genuinely humored by her frustration and cabin fever. he himself wasn’t often affected by it, as he often relishes in his own company especially in the absence of others. though he sympathizes and knows that a decent walk would likely do more good than hurt. ❛ well we wouldn’t want that. ❜ he admits.
bringing her along, he leads her through the chamber doors and down along the tile floor of the palace corridor. his steps were even and sure, leading her along and took in a deep breath to even his breathing comfortably. ❛ so where would you like to go ? I mentioned the garden earlier. ❜ loki questioned as they reached a joining groin vault that intersected two halls. ❛ or there’s the courtyards. there’s usually always something going on. ❜ the realm was always so LIVELY. sometimes even overwhelmingly so. but that was normally what set ásgarðr apart from most.

Tara’s heart and smile fell for a second when he suggested she take the rest of the day to rest. She tightened her grip on his hand so his arm would get yanked back as he moved to push past her to find a seat, trying to stop him from going too far.
“Hey, wait, what about that walk you mentioned earlier?” She sounded a bit disheartened, like the prospect of getting outside was just a dangling carrot, a door about to be slammed in her face. “Please, Loki,” she pleaded, “I’ve been cooped up here by myself all week doing nothing but rest and recover after that mental magic training. I’d really like to get outside for some fresh air and a change of scenery.” She was tired of the loneliness and monotony of resting all day, of only seeing Stag when he came to play or Loki when he was done with his duties for the day.
She thought she remembered him saying something about being able to keep his emotions to himself, but as she looked at his face and into his eyes, she could see he was…tired. She felt she could see a glimpse of the burden he was putting on himself to keep her and his people safe, and perhaps only a fraction of the toll it was taking on him. “Hey,” she said in a more gentle tone, softly tugging his hand again, “you look like you could use a break, too, Lo. Please, just…let’s go for that walk.” She was too preoccupied trying to persuade him to change his mind that she didn’t even register that she used a nickname for him.
❛ I was hoping you’d forgotten. ❜ he chuckled slightly with a sigh as she insisted on the trip around the palace. though he needed to let go of worry for now. focus on gaining their strength and preparing for the uncertain future. but without a moment of peace every now and then, the weight of the stress could become too much for her as well. loki just needed to trust she would speak up if she wasn’t fit to do something.
her jest of threatening words brings a familiar smile to his thin lips. loki loved her determination and pride. it was more than admirable.
❛ alright. on your feet then. let us see how steady you are. ❜ stepping back from her, he offers a hand to help her stand properly. ❛ just don’t push yourself too hard. ❜

Tara closed her eyes and dropped her head, huffing a tiny laugh through her nose. His words were earnest, and they were almost like a salve on her aching heart; knowing he was here to help her to keep pushing forward was bringing her back to herself. She returned his hand squeeze, looking back up to him with a soft half-smile, her lips pursed almost like she was trying to keep from smiling, but couldn’t hold it.
“I know…thank you.” She paused and looked back down at their hands as she languidly started to sway their hands out between them. “But, ya know…” green-hazel met deep emerald as she tilted her gaze back to his, “that’s not gonna stop me from getting sad, from missing what I used to have.” Her smile flattened ever so slightly as she spoke more seriously. “I’m still gonna miss my old friends…my parents…people who actually like me,” she chuckled that last part, “I’ll still miss my old home. But that’s okay…and I’ll be okay.” It almost like she was reassuring herself instead of Loki at the end there.
She doesn’t know how he did it, or maybe she did it by getting her thoughts off her chest, but she was feeling better. Still a little homesickness lingering in her chest, but instead for feeling sorry, she was feeling more grateful, and more like herself. “Also,” her eyes focused in on his again, a little more fierce than before, “if you ever accuse me of giving up again…” She pulled his hands lightly, forcing him closer and then leaning in so they were more face to face. “I will burn you alive.” Her words were pointed, but there was no threat there as she joked, obvious from the grin that broke out across her lips.
loki presented a light smile in response to her mood shift. encouraging her with a nod of acknowledgment. ❛ there you go. ❜ he praised and moved back to sit. but while his smile was evident, it faded as a thought came to mind that he was unsure of sharing. a surefire way to return her life to normal. a fail safe. but perhaps she didn ‘t need to know of it so soon. it could wait until it was more relevant.
❛ why don’t you take the evening to rest. ❜ they would need to resume their routine soon, and to do so she needed to be sharp with her wits about her.
loki felt strongly like they were on the receiving end of a witch hunt. their every move being gauged and measured. he needed to find the other and he was growing more and more determined as time passed. the more time they spent training, the more time the other has had to plan an advance. loki himself had a long night ahead of him. he had strategy and defense tactics to prepare. precautions needed to be put into place and he was responsible for it ALL.
❛ shall I send for anything you need? ❜

As his fingers softly brushed her cheek, it felt like a cool breath upon her eyes and her lids fell shut as the puffy and stinging feeling was relieved. When she opened her eyes again, she saw Loki’s smile and couldn’t help but feel her lips upturn slightly. He was trying to make her feel better, even though he didn’t know what was upsetting her. He cared, and that in itself started to melt the heavy, somber feeling that was still lingering deep in her chest. “I…I’m not sure…?” She sighed and looked down to her boots for a minute, contemplating what to tell him. She twisted and reached behind her, pulling the chamber door completely shut and taking a step closer to Loki so she wasn’t in the door frame. After weighing options for a second, she locked eyes with him, feeling almost defeated. “I miss Earth, Loki. I miss my home. I…I’m just not sure if I belong here…” She confessed then looked down again as the faces of her family and friends flashed through her head again, gently rubbing her forearm. God, she hated this feeling…. Aching…alone…feeling sorry for herself… She inhaled calmly through her nose to keep herself from crying again, but her breath caught in her throat. “Gah… dammit, I’m sorry. Let’s,” she cleared her throat and shook her head, “go for that walk, okay?”
she feels misplaced. it stirs a deep reflection within him like an empty sheet of glass. one that obliterated any will to wave away concern or care. it tore away from him the ability to distance and flee real connection. loki wants to console. unfortunately it was never a strong suit of his outside of þórr. with þórr, loki knew him inside and out. including precisely how to differ the thunderer’s attention from distress when they were young. however with others it was different. here it felt foreign. but that didn’t stop him from making an attempt. not when he can offer insight to some degree.reaching up he takes her hands in his gently. small flashes of his mother’s comforting touch guided his actions and with a light squeeze of tara’s fingers the trickster god lowered and softened. ❛ don’t get discouraged. you can’t give up. you musn’t. ❜ his hands shake her own lightly for emphasis while he continues. ❛ you’ll get through this. we all will. ❜

Aching...alone...feeling sorry for herself...
She inhaled calmly through her nose to keep herself from crying again, but her breath caught in her throat. "Gah... dammit, I'm sorry. Let's," she cleared her throat and shook her head, "go for that walk, okay?"

Tara walked into their bathroom with the full intent of brushing her hair, but she stopped just to rest her hands on the sink and look at her reflection, leaning onto the surface. Her hair was more unkempt than she thought and her eyes were red and raw from crying. Her gaze floated over to her right shoulder and she stared detest-fully at her scar, even though it was hidden underneath her nightshirt.
Right now, she hated it. This big, stupid, ugly scar was the reason she was here instead of home on Earth, that she was no longer “normal”… no longer fully human. If she didn’t have these powers, there wouldn’t be someone after her, she wouldn’t have gotten self-righteous in the café where she met Loki, she wouldn’t have needed to leave home. She sighed and dropped her head, a few more tears escaping and falling into the sink basin; she was falling down the same spiral she just had before Loki returned. Stop… Loki’s waiting for you… it’s going to be okay. You’ll be okay. She reassured herself, then felt the corner of her mouth tilt upwards. Plus you’re getting to leave, so there’s that.
She pressed her hands to her eyes then dragged them down her face, standing from the sink. She cleaned herself up, but there wasn’t much she could do to look like she hadn’t been crying. She moved to the closet and donned a pair of leather pants and a long maroon tunic with a brown belt. Noticing Loki stepped out into the hall to wait, she walked over and pulled the door open. She wiped her eyes one more time in case she missed any wayward tears and ran her hands down her top, sniffing. “Okay.” She softly offered as she looked up to him.
she may have tried to hide it ( judging by her freshly washed yet flushed face ) but there was visible pain in her eyes. loki recognized it and took a moment to pause. lifting a hand to her cheek, his finger rubs under her eye gently. she’d indeed dried her tears but loki’s cool thumb and restoration magick eased the redness and swelling that reside there. ❛ do you wish to talk about it . . . ? ❜ fear can’t be the only thing that brought this on. but he also doesn’t want to push her into being more upset. ❛ it might ease you a bit. ❜ following his words loki smiles softly. hoping it to be contagious.

Tara's gaze dropped to absently stare at the corner of the rug that lay between her and Loki, wiping away more wetness from her eyes with her knuckles and thumb. She kept her arms tight to her chest, almost like hugging herself, silently worrying her sleeve between her fingertips as she thought. Inside, part of her was rejoicing, elated to finally see something other than the walls of their shared room, but she was still riddled with homesickness.
She started gently rocking herself from side to side, not making a sound except for the occasional sniffle. She didn't react for a few moments as she talked herself up to making a decision. C'mon, this is what you've wanted for days! Why aren't you more excited? Just get outside, what could happen?
After a little while, she gave a tentative nod, and then a couple more, flicking her eyes up to Loki before turning away to get herself freshened up and out of her bedclothes.
@weremagitara / tara
She was still standing in the middle of the room when Loki entered, one arm across her chest supporting the other as she held her head in one hand, her fingers splayed, hiding most of her face. She didn’t bother trying to rush back to the bed and pretend she wasn’t up and about. Her eyes were closed and she didn’t look up, but she could hear the lightness in his voice. She involuntarily sighed a small laugh through her nose and the corner of her lips barely lifted.
After a few beats, she dragged her hand down her face and tilted her head back to look at the ceiling, wiping a few tears away in the process. Her red, watery eyes landed on the god as she turned her head towards the door and fully crossed her arms, holding herself tight.
“No,” she softly croaked. There was a shadow of a smile on her face, but it looked about to crumble back to tears any second.
HE KNEW THIS HADN’T BEEN EASY FOR HER. maybe it because he was such a hermit himself at times. endless days of solitude spent. not always on his own terms, but he’d grown used to it. the serpentine god had even come to prefer it. though it had been foolish of him to assume she would be just as content alone with her own thoughts.
❛ . . . what do you say we get you some fresh air. ❜ a nice walk couldn’t hurt anything. and hopefully it would prove engaging enough to take her mind to a more serene place. ❛ or if you want I could accompany you to the training yards for a casual sparring ? it may be beneficial to stretch your legs a bit. ❜

@WEREMAGITARA
One. Whole. Week.
A full seven days of forced bed rest had Tara going a little stir crazy. She felt fully recovered three days in, but Loki lightly threatened her insisted she stay to ensure her brain and mind had time to cope as well as her body. Sure, she was could get up to use the bathroom and bathe, but Loki wanted her in bed nearly every other minute of the day. Whenever she was out of bed and he returned from a meeting or came to check on her, she’d scramble back to the bed. She had only actually been caught a couple times– the punishment for which was a stern scolding– but she had the feeling he knew more then he let on.
She once tried to just take a walk down to one of the gardens for a change of scenery while he was gone, which ended with a guard on either side of her escorting her back to her and Loki’s room. He even had gone so far as to have a palace guard stand watch outside their room to make sure she didn’t try to leave again. It was like she was on house arrest. Her only solace was that Stag got to come visit and play often, providing a much needed distraction, but it wasn’t enough for her.
“This is fucking ridiculous!!” She cried out to the barren room, throwing her fists down into the soft furs that were draped across Loki’s bed. She shoved the covers off and threw herself out of the bed only to stand in the middle of the room and stare out the balcony window. She wasn’t just bored, she was miserable. Unlike on Earth, there was nothing to distract her from the lonely hours of silence. If she were back on Earth, there’d be T.V. and Netflix and smartphones and music and all sorts of things to keep her occupied while she was supposed to be resting. But here…she could maybe read, but it seemed the palace didn’t have a lot of “Midgardian” literature, or at least any that would be for leisure. If she were on Earth…no.
If she were home.
She exasperatedly ran her hands through her hair. God, she missed everything about being on Earth. Her parents probably didn’t even know she was alive. What she wouldn’t give to see and hug them again, to not be a weremagi, to be normal again. All this time alone with herself, all this time to just sit and think and remember the life she used to have, had made her extremely homesick. She blinked rapidly as a tear slid down her cheek. She tilted her chin down and mumbled into her chest. “I just wanna go home…”
LOKI HAD BEEN PASSING BY the hall of kongelig where his chambers lie when a nearby guard informed him that he heard a yell. a bit of worry sparks in the god’s chest and he immediately heads to check on tara. the more time that passed with her healing, the more the anxiety builds. the impending attack was very likely to occur at any given time now, and loki was rather concerned with her current lack of CONTROL. he knew if he could get her to grasp the reigns of her subconscious, she’d have the ability to conduct herself magickally in ways she never thought possible. but it would require more training than he felt there was time for. he intended to be certain she recovered as fast as possible. this included constant bed rest and sessions of exposure to his healing techniques. he knew she was likely annoyed with the routine, but he had good reason for it. but just incase this was a cry of pain rather than frustration, loki thought it better to investigate.
❛ tara ? ❜ he speaks into the door as he opens it after the light knocking of two fingers. ❛ any reason why the halls are reported to echo with your yelling ? ❜ the trickster’s question seems cross, but he offers a smile.

One. Whole.
Whenever she was out of bed and he returned from a meeting or came to check on her, she'd scramble back to the bed. She had only actually been caught a couple times-- the punishment for which was a stern scolding-- but she had the feeling he knew more then he let on.
She once tried to just take a walk down to one of the gardens for a change of scenery while he was gone, which ended with a guard on either side of her escorting her back to her and Loki's room. He even had gone so far as to have a palace guard stand watch outside their room to make sure she didn't try to leave again. It was like she was on house arrest. Her only solace was that Stag got to come visit and play often, providing a much needed distraction, but it wasn't enough for her.
"This is fucking ridiculous!!" She cried out to the barren room, throwing her fists down into the soft furs that were draped across Loki's bed. She shoved the covers off and threw herself out of the bed only to stand in the middle of the room and stare out the balcony window. She wasn't just bored, she was miserable. Unlike on Earth, there was nothing to distract her from the lonely hours of silence. If she were back on Earth, there'd be T.V. and Netflix and smartphones and music and all sorts of things to keep her occupied while she was supposed to be resting. But here...she could maybe read, but it seemed the palace didn't have a lot of "Midgardian" literature, or at least any that would be for leisure. If she were on Earth...no.
If she were home.
She exasperatedly ran her hands through her hair. God, she missed everything about being on Earth. Her parents probably didn't even know she was alive. What she wouldn't give to see and hug them again, to not be a weremagi, to be normal again. All this time alone with herself, all this time to just sit and think and remember the life she used to have, had made her extremely homesick. She blinked rapidly as a tear slid down her cheek. She tilted her chin down and mumbled into her chest. "I just wanna go home..."

“You’re okay, Baby. Shh…” Tara leaned back into her pillows to give herself more support, sluggishly stroking Stag’s hair. She wasn’t exactly physically or mentally to be honest ready to deal with a crying child, but she didn’t want Stag to worry any more. She tiredly looked back at Loki, eyes lingering on his face before she let them drift shut. She felt like he was lessening the blow about her appearance. But then again, she did just pull herself out of her own consciousness a few minutes ago, so she probably wasn’t 100% with it right now. Still…she felt a little guilty if she had unknowingly caused any sort of burden to anyone.
Stag’s wails dwindled down to sniffling and small whimpers, but still stayed wrapped around her. “Yeah, there you go. It’s alright, mo-” She froze as she realized she was about to call herself his “mommy.” Her eyes fluttered open to see if he noticed; she had no idea how he would react if she were to call herself his mother, which made her heart ache more for the boy. She didn’t even know why she was going to say that, but she didn’t want to even think about that right now. “I’ve got you… What do you say to Loki for going to get food, huh?”
Stag mumbled something into her shoulder and Tara couldn’t stop a small smirk toying with the corner of her lips. She gently poked him and whispered to him to look at someone when he talks to them. He reluctantly relinquished her neck and turned to find Loki, smearing his hands across his small face to wipe his tears. “Th-thank you King Loki. I’ll watch her while you’re gone.” Her eyes fell closed once more and her grin grew, going back to quietly cuddling the boy.
her shift in demeanor had been all too easy for the god of lies to detect. and not at all difficult for him to estimate why when her gaze towards the boy softens further before him. its clear she’s the mothering type. and stag seemed to agree, judging by the fact he wanted absolutely NO space between them. he was glad, however, that they had at least settled in bed. tara surely needed to rest and he wasn’t about to allow her to do anything more.
❛ atta boy. ❜ loki presents a seemingly genuine smile despite the pressing urgency that threatened his period of contentment. it wouldn’t be long though and she’ll have rested enough to do some physical training as well. he had to admit he was rather excited to see her fullest capabilities. but for now he walks out towards the kitchens to fetch them some dinner.

Her foot no more than dipped below the edge of the bed when she noticed the dim glow of Loki’s fingers as a force pushed her legs back up and the soft blanket crawled up her legs, tucking her in on its own. Her lips pursed and she gave a resigned sigh, but she didn’t have enough in her to fight back. She leaned back into her pillows, loosely folding her arms. “Fine…sure, I don’t ca-”
She was cut off by a short knock on the door before it was slowly pushed open. An older, tan-skinned servant stepped in, holding the hand of a sniveling Stag. “My deepest apologies, my king. I-” As soon as Stag’s eyes landed on Tara, he wiggled and shook his way out of the maid’s grip and ran to the bed, bumping off Loki’s leg in the process and almost tumbling to the floor. He scrambled up the bed and threw himself in her lap, wrapping his small arms tight around her neck and blubbering into her shoulder. Tara, albeit extremely surprised, immediately secured one arm around his back and the other hand gently held the back of his head.
“Oh, c'mere. What’s wrong, buddy?” The boy couldn’t answer, just buried his head further into the crook of her neck.
“He actually went looking for you, Miss, on his own.” The woman piped up, “He got lost trying to find you, I believe. I found the poor thing hiding by a large fire urn, crying his eyes out.”
“Aww… Poor guy. Is it true, you were looking for me?” She soothingly rubbed his back and gave him a kiss on the side of his head. It was almost all she could do; she didn’t have much more strength to help comfort him. He sniffled and pulled back, eyes red and puffy, face wet from tears and snot.
“I-I-I wanted to c-come see you, bec-cause I..you-uh said you didn’t fu-feel good and-and-and…” the boy used his sleeve to wipe his nose as he spoke through his sobs, “I wanted t-to see if you felt better, but th-then I got lost and-nd couldn’t find you and-and…” His little face screwed up and he started crying again, burying his face under her chin.
“It’s okay big guy, I’m right here…” She held him as tight as she could manage to console him and hopefully allow him to start to calm down. It was endearing that he cared for her so much that he wanted to make sure she was okay, but it still broke her heart how scared he was right now. It also made her think of something…she didn’t remember Stag asking that question at all. Of the past week or so, she remembered the terror she felt for the recurring nightmares and the weariness, but nearly everything else was a blur. She looked to Loki, almost guilty and sheepish. “…did I really look that bad the past few days?” Did she look so haggard, so fatigued, that even the young boy took notice and had to see if something was wrong?
at first the words don’t come. his gaze fondly, yet warily focuses on the young boy as he doesn’t want anything stressing tara too much. but as her eyes seem to brighten, smile widens . . . he starts to think perhaps he’d have the opposite effect. ❛ not bad necessarily. more so just out of sorts. ❜ but not for long. with his help he knew she’d be back on her feet in no time at all. just a minor setback, but a setback none the less.
❛ she’ll be fine soon little man. just needs a rest. ❜ speaking with a signature smile, loki lets his arms uncross and fall to his sides as he recedes to allow them a moment to themselves. ❛ why don’t you watch over her while I’m gone hmm ?. ❜ he can easily tell Stag would be glued to her side for who knew how long. the god just hoped he could find a way to utilize this time they would have to kill. ❛ I’ll bring us all something to eat.. ❜

Tara skeptically pulled the stopper from one of one of the tonics and gave it a tentative sniff; even though it was colored a bright blue, it smelled like burnt grass. Like a child who didn’t want to take their cough medicine, her nose crinkled and she slightly narrowed her eyes at Loki, a small whine crawling from her throat. Her shoulders slumped and she finally knocked back the elixir. It was incredibly bitter and once it was gone, she shook her head trying to get over the taste.
“Blech…” she put the stopper back in and put the empty vial on the bed between them. She opened the other and noticed it had no discernible aroma – she couldn’t decide if that was better or worse – but at least it tasted faintly sweet. A few seconds after both were consumed she started to feel a gentle warmth inside her. First in her stomach, then radiating out to her limbs. The feeling started to fade and she did a bit more invigorated. Though, that just means she felt more like she was exhausted from a long, drawn-out day instead of having no strength or energy whatsoever, and she still looked haggard from the previous lack of sleep.
“As delightful as these were,” the empty vials clinked and rang as she grabbed them both and pushed them back into Loki’s hand, “I am starving, and I want this taste out of my mouth. Can we get something to eat?” She rubbed at her eye and attempted to swing her legs out past Loki so they could go find food together.
SHE’S WEARY this much he wouldn’t have to look at her to know , but for some reason the sight of her hand nearly trembling as she sips from the vial . . . it made him increasingly unsettled . the part that bothered him the most was he couldn’t say WHY . sure it wasn’t a great feeling to know that she could possibly loose the approaching mental war she faced , but there was something else . some other nagging feeling that made him feel as if her suffering were deserved more concern than any others .
as she starts to move , his reaction is nearly instant . he merely stretches his fingers and the tips of them glow softly . her legs swinging back up of their own accord and the blanket pulls over her form firmly . ❛ ah ah . strain yourself and you’ll undo everything those elixirs are trying to accomplish . ❜ while partly true , another reason is he doesn’t want her to risk anything . ❛ why don’t I just bring something here ? ❜

She watched Loki leave the room but swore she heard faint clinking behind her. Before she could roll over to look for the source, he flashed back through the main door holding small vials and offered them to her. She pushed herself up so she was sitting upright before she hesitantly took the drinks from him.
“What are they?” She inquired, studying them as closely as she could at the moment. One of them looked thick and one was brightly colored, all with paper labels with runes on them she couldn’t read. She trusted Loki, but she wanted to know what she was doing first.
Her gaze turned serious, almost stern at the prospect of more of this mind training, but her voice almost sounded pleading as she looked up to him. “I…I don’t know if I can do that again. I don’t know what happened and…I’m not sure if I want to.” She pondered briefly that she sounded weak; as soon as something challenging came up, she was ready to close the door and lose the key. Her eyes then softened a step and her eyes flicked to his hand for a second before looking him in the eye. “Look, Loki…I’m not…I don’t know if I can physically do that again. Not now…” Her head dropped a little as she turned her attention back to the potions she was handed.
he makes certain she downs both vials entirely . knowing she would desperately need them to relieve her mental exertion . ❛ ❛ some custom elixirs for general pain and weariness . ❜ ❜ he never bothered to name them , being that each brew he produced was unique and solitary to itself . he never made the same potion twice . loki preferred to alter little bits of the recipes to better fit the situation at hand . the raven haired sorcerer would have done so here as well , but he knew she likely wanted a quicker relief . freshly brewed elixirs could take an hour at least .
he doesn’t blame her protesting but the god knows just how fruitless it is . ❛ ❛ of course , you’ll rest for now . ❜ ❜ he agrees with a small nod . ❛ ❛ but we’ll need to strengthen your control over your mind . ❜ ❜ surprisingly for once he cant bring himself to lie . he wants her to know what to expect . but he was confident she could do this . and he was going to guide and assist her until she fully achieved the ability to ward others from her mind .

She inhaled deeply before pushing out a sigh. “I’m good…I’m good.” She patted his hand and cracked her eyes back open. She could finally focus enough to see his expression; he looked as though he wanted to say more, but was holding it back. This made her eyebrows dip slightly, wondering what was still bothering him.
“Go. Go do what you need to do. I won’t go anywhere…not that I really have the energy to anyway.” Another small, tired smile touched her lips as she removed her hand from his. She then reached behind her head and arched her back in a stretch, kind of hoping to put a little life back in her muscles.
his features were riddled with concern, though something else hides in his eyes as well as he turned to exit. before this, he’d questioned whether or not she’d be strong enough, willful enough to handle her own protection. though after being a witness to her self triggered emerson from her subconscious, he was more than impressed. he was comforted. now knowing she was incredibly strong. she just needed to learn how to direct it properly.
as loki walks out the door of her rooms, its as if he’s entering his own. in a bit of a rush to collect a few alchemic concoctions he kept on hand for occasions such as this. after centuries of him and his brother Þórr making frequent appearances to the infirmary for countless injuries, the god grew annoyed with the growing collection of deprecating looks they always received. deciding to confine himself to his chambers following any ventures they sought. in this instance however, he was more than relieved that this habit had continued well up to this very moment.
the small glass vials clatter against each other as they’re enclosed within his palm. having fetched them from a high shelf alongside larger bottles and glass containers that held various ingredients and things to brew. he makes a mental note then to start on a few elixirs later to not only replace these … but prepare for what was to come.
the very next instant, he’s approaching her bedside again. his own rooms phasing into tara’s as he appears and presents the little bottles to her. ❛ ❛ you’ll need to drink these. ❜ ❜ his shoulders are turned to the side with his head facing her. his other hand rests on his knee while pale fingers nervously absentmindedly fidget in anticipation to her response. ❛ ❛ unfortunately we will need to do this again. though next time I’ll know what to expect. ❜ ❜

With Loki’s magic, all of her pain faded and she even perked up a little bit, but she still felt drained. She finally let her eyes close as she relaxed more into feeling Loki’s magic work across her body. She huffed a small laugh through her nose and gave a small smile. “Guess I didn’t have as much energy to put towards training as I thought…” Her eyes remained closed, but she lifted her hand and rested it gently over one of Loki’s, still cradling her head.
Tara felt heavy and could tell that one good night’s sleep wasn’t going to bring her back from the past two weeks of only a handful of hours of rest. But she also couldn’t stop thinking about what had happened inside her own head; the things she had worked hard to put behind her were now back in the forefront of her mind. Her smile drooped and her brow furrowed minutely.
“I’m not sure if I want to do that again…” Her tone was much more serious and much softer than before, almost like she was talking to herself. She tapped his hand lightly, like a silent plea to not make her go through that again.
HE DOESN’T DISMISS
her as he can’t blame her in the slightest , being a witness to what she’d just endured . he couldn’t help his curiosity & the nearly endless inquiries nearly congesting his mind . they would need to wait however , as he assumed she wouldn’t be at all in the mood for incessant questioning .
he remains relatively quiet at her own request . not wishing to stress her even further with the detestable truth that they would indeed have to . he had to be CERTAIN she could protect herself . his enchantments were likely to waiver at some point & he wanted to be fully prepared for any scenario following that .
❛ ❛ tell me once the pain fades . I’m going to fetch a few things & once I’m finished you’ll need to sleep . ❜ ❜ likely for an extended time he assumed .

Her ears were ringing her head hurt so much. So when Loki spoke, his voice was muffled, like her ears were stuffed with cotton. She whined in response, just barely understanding him. She tried to focus on the sound of her own breathing as she felt his hands grow slightly warmer and a tingling feeling crept across her scalp.
Slowly, she felt her muscles start to unclench all across her body and she heard her breath start to slow. Eventually all she felt in her skull was a dull, phantom ache and her breathing was down to a slow pant, nearly back to normal. The ringing in her ears subsided, but she hesitated in opening her eyes again lest the pain started again.
After a minute she cautiously cracked her eyes open; her vision was still sort of slow to respond so it was like everything was in slow motion and a little out of focus, and she had to keep blinking to keep her eyes open as she got her bearings. She found Loki’s eyes above her and stared into them until everything became sharp again. She tried to push herself up to sit, but her body was still weary from the weeks of insomnia and her elbow buckled and she fell back to the pillows with a grunt.
“What the fuck was that?” The exhaustion could be heard in her voice from the current mental and lingering physical strain she had endured. She gently thumped the back of her hand against her forehead.
UNSURE QUITE HOW TO ANSWER he settles for the best explanation he could muster . considering even he himself wasn’t completely certain just what had interrupted their training session & taken hold of her thoughts . that alone made him extremely nervous being that he nearly always had complete control when projecting within a person’s mind . but this . . . it was as if his ascendancy had been blinded along with their sight . even so , he didn’t want to let on that he was just as clueless . no point in stressing her further when she was clearly very disoriented & unstable .
❛ ❛ just stay still & relax . ❜ ❜ he instructed her as he worked his tendrils of magic into her temples in an attempt to sooth her likely pounding head . she’d used alot of energy to fight her way back to consciousness . he knew it was no small feat & he had to admit , he was rather impressed .
❛ ❛ I’ll need to prepare thoroughly for our next training session so this doesn’t happen again . ❜ ❜
