Dust plume off the Sahara desert captured by NOAA is able to suppress hurricanes. Many hurricanes start as storms across the Sahara and can pickup to Category 2 hurricanes as they move west off the coast. These are interesting to watch because these systems often fade out over the Atlantic deep waters and strengthen early on as they near the Caribbean thus able to produce very strong hurricanes. #scott_fierro https://www.instagram.com/p/CBQ0LbeJmt9/?igshid=hadwa68mvrdy

Tropical Storm Cristobal is an interesting way to start the hurricane season because it’s just breaking into the Gulf of Mexico. As it moves north its likely to intensify and could get to a category 2 storm which is not a common occurrence.
