Scotland 31 - 19 Italy

What started off looking like another domination quickly turned to nerves, as Scotland’s mid game jitters took hold.

Scoring three tries before the break for an easy 19 points, Italy clawed back at that lead through the Scots’ poor discipline and Tommaso Allan’s superior boot. Of Scottish extraction himself, the tension was real when an interception drew the Italians level.

While the Azzurri have proven that they can stay fit for a full 80 minutes now, they still have work to do, as Scotland ran in five tries to their one. Both teams could improve, but for the first match of the year, it wasn’t a bad display from either.

Scotland will definitely be happy with the win, even if it was far from comfortable at times. It’s another loss for Italy on the other hand, but they’ll be hosting Wales and full of confidence next week. Consecutive wins against another tier one nation would be something pretty historic for the Italians, so they’ve lot to play for.

Finally, Ireland host England later on tonight, in hope of the mythical three in a row. England will have to out in one hell of a shift to overcome the number two team on their own pitch, but they managed it in the reverse fixture last year, so who knows?
