thoughts on giving pokemon to kids and allowing them to compete? i heard that they're starting to put more strict regulations on that stuff (at least in my region idk if it's global)

i think it's a dumb lost cause. 10 year olds have been pokémon trainers for centuries and there's preschools and schools set up for adolescent training literally everywhere. no law can keep a 6 year old girl away from her scolipede best friend

I don't know if your still interested in partner pokemon stories, but I wanted to share mine since it's weird.

My partner is a Scolipede and he's a sweetheart, I've had him for a long time. I visited my Mom like a week ago and asked about how I met him. Well apparently she doesn't know, I just came home with him. My Mom just let me explore the woods near our home when I was like 7, and I came home with a Venipede. I'm not kidding.

I'm shocked he didn't attack me. He just got scooped up by a child and stuck with them ever since.

I really understand your mom, honestly. My sister (Hazel) already had a 'mon since she was a child, but that didn't stop her from coming home with literally anything she could get her hands on. That includes a Combee hive she found on the ground after a storm, and the 15 to 20 Combees that followed her home.

RVB POKEMON AU except most of them dont have “battle teams” since most adults in the pokemon universe dont

RED TEAM

Grif: lv.31 Tropius, fruity king. Has a really close bond with his pokemon, and was never really interested in being a trainer.

Simmons: Has a full well-rounded team, and multiple in boxes he constantly switches out to give attention to. Ex-Pokémon trainer, and beat the gyms of his region, but stopped there. Main team… probably lv.70 Lucario, lv.80 Hydreigon, lv.77 Volcarona, lv.90 Sylveon, lv.80 Arcanine, lv.71 Gallade.

Sarge: lv.50 Red Garyados. Picky trainer that started later in life, and a picky pokemon to match. I think he caught him as a garyados after some anime-esque bonding scenario, but beforehand Sarge wasn’t much interested in having a pokemon of his own?

Donut: Pokemon coordinator, with a few battle pokemon! All of red team has the closest bonds to their pokemon, but Donut definitely makes it the most apparent! Donut will usually coordinate with his lv.30 Ninetales or lv.15 Jumpluff, and battles with his lv.45 Scolipede or lv.47 Luxray.

BLUE TEAM

Church: No pokemon, but a wild Shedinja seems to follow him around a lot! Tucker ends up catching the Shedinja before they leave the gulch for good.

Tucker: He wasnt interested in pokemon as a kid, but caught the Shedinja that used to follow church around. They bond over the weirdness thats epsilon.

Caboose: Ex-Trainer! He only has his base team, and has poured a LOT of love into training them! He definitely spoils them. A suprising ammount of his pokemon are… “stolen” from bad situations. lv.50 Shiny Galvantula, lv.65 Silvally, lv.75 Deoxys dont ask how…, lv.60 Cofagrigus, lv.55 Cacturne, and a lv.60 Arcanine that has playdates with Simmons’.

Kai: lv.30 plusle and minun! Not a trainer or coordinator, but loves her pokemon!

Misc and Freelancers in another post im sleepy… if someone wants to show me their pokemon headcanons please give em!

Simmons having the “strongest team” even amongst some freelancers (will write later) is really important to his characterization to me? He doesnt talk about the fact that he was an Extremely Successful pokemon trainer much at all, and his pokemon usually only battle eachother (or have private battles with caboose’s) so no ones really shown how strong his pokemon and his bonds with his pokemon are! Just kind of like how he’s always walked all over and stepped on. He definitely bonds with Donut since he has one of the “weakest” pokemon in the gulch, level wise.

Church (and temporarily Tucker) never having pokemon is also really important to me!! Something something trauma and subjugation, but I also like the connection of alpha!church dying, and leaving behind two best friends who only bond after his death- Tucker, and the Shedinja. Especially since Tucker and Church’s friendship gets glossed over so often.

Most people dont know Caboose has a Deoxys, even the reds and blues dont find out till a LONG time. Deoxys does love to battle, but hates people knowing it exists as it considers that dangerous, so for the longest time only Caboose and Simmons knew. The people “in the know” expand over the seasons through accidents or big dramatic happenstances. Usually the “bad guys” only find out right before they see the red n blue alien hyperbeam their brains into dust.

Lillipup: It's funny how Gamefreak indirectly admitted they think dogs are smarter than kids.

Herdier: You're not a pokemon. You're just a cartoon dog. Don't lie.

Stoutland: This pokemon has shed a lot of tears.

Purrloin: The Angelica of the pokemon world.

Liepard: Galarian Articuno, you are not.

Passage: This is most likely what inspired Grookey.

Simisage: Hello, Johnny Bravo wannabe.

Pansear: I wouldn't be able to guess it was based on the hear no evil monkey if it didn't have its hand by its ear.

Simisear: How does it feel to be one of the most hated pokemon?

Panpour: It's not even trying to hint towards it being the see no evil monkey pokemon!

Simipour: Props to this pokemon for not conforming to toxic masculinity.

Munna and Musharna: I'm creeped out by these pokemon looking like fetuses.

Pidove, Tranquill, and Unfezant: I feel like these have to be some of the most unnecessarily hated pokemon.

Blitzle and Zebstrika: I thought we were in America, not Africa.

Roggenrola: So is this supposed to be a rock eye?

Boldore: It's really forgettable outside of being one of Ash's pokemon in the anime.

Gigalith: Just Golem 2.0.

Woobat and Swoobat: Zubat and Golbat but fluffier.

Drilbur and Excadrill: These guys hate when you reset before saving.

Audino: I love this pokemon, but its name is just a corny pun.

Timburr, Gurdurr, and Conkeldurr: Were the vains necessary?

Tympole: I always forget that this is pure water type.

Palpitoad: Don't worry, you'll get arms eventually.

Seismitoad: Are those giant warts heavy?

Sawk and Throh: Insert Muppet joke here.

Sewaddle: Its mouth looks like a fortune cookie.

Swadloon: It looks like it was forced out of bed.

Leavanny: Dem legs.

Venipede: This pokemon is pretty forgettable if I can't think of a way to roast them.

Dwebble and Crustle: So crab = water type, but hermit crab = bug type? Seems about right.

Yamask and Cofagrigus: It goes from having a sad story to being another disturbing ghost type.

Tirtouga and Carracosta: These two are overshadowed by their bird like counterpart.

Archen and Archeops: The most crippling ability besides Slow start.

Trubbish and Garbodor: They're literally garbage pokemon. Need I say more?

Zorua and Zoroark: The edgy fur bait pokemon.

Minccino and Cinccino: I don't know if these pokemon would love or hate that I'm messy.

Gothita: Stop staring at me with those soulless eyes!

Gothorita: Are the weird growths on your head supposed to represent earrings?

Gothitelle: The goth gf pokemon.

Solosis, Duosion, and Reuniclus: So we're making cell pokemon without considering the implications?

Ducklett and Swanna: Actual ugly duckling pokemon.

Vanillite, Vanillish, and Vanilluxe: Mmmm...icecream...

Deerling and Sawsbuck: To bad you were made for a feature that was removed the next generation.

Emolga: Why did they made this pokemon a gluttonous bitch in the anime?

The Karrablast line and the Shelmet line: You think these two would be next to each other in the pokedex, but no.

Foongus and Amoonguss: Based on a stupid pun.

Frillish and Jellicent: These pokemon are total psychos!

Alomomola: I feel like not making this the evolution of luvdisc was one of the biggest missed opportunities.

Joltik and Galvantula: Stop stealing my phone energy, damn you!

Farroseed: Deadliest egg ever.

Ferrothorn: Deadliest plant.

Klink, Klang, and Klinklang: Lamest pokemon ever.

Tynamo: It looks like a certain hygiene product.

Eelektrik: Laziest name ever.

Eelektross: Now the only pokemon with no weaknesses outside of certain pokemon holding a balloon.

Elgyem and Beheeyem: More ultra beast before ultra beast were a thing.

Litwick, Lampent, and Chandelure: These guys have some of the most fucked up dex entries!

Axew, Fraxure, and Haxorus: Do you guys need braces?

Cuchoo: Someone give this pokemon a tissue!

Beartic: Is that a snot beard!?

Cryogonal: Why does this pokemon learn attract?

Stunfisk: The punching bag pokemon.

Mienfoo and Mienshao: 🎶Everyone was kung-fu fighting!🎶

Druddigon: This looks over desined.

Golett and Golurk: I swear these pokemon are in every region after their debut.

Pawniard and Bisharp: These pokemon make more sense in Galar than Unova.

Heatmor: Only created to eat another pokemon.

Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus: Why is Landorus after the box legendaries instead of being next to the other genies?

Genesect: Another cautionary tale of trying to tamper with the forces of nature.

Pelipper mail! Two packages appear! One is wrapped in a thick pink ribbon and has a tag reading "To: Roxie" in neat, angular handwriting. The second is smaller and sports wrapping paper patterned with Galarian Weezings and a tag reading "Roxie" in light, flowing handwriting.

The first box contains multiple objects. The first is a choker in dark purple and yellow, studded with paler purple spikes like the bumps around a Toxtricity's wrists. The next is a small plush toy Toxel, the electricity on its head being made of a shiny material the crinkles when rubbed and the rest being deceptively soft to the touch for its looks. The box also contains a mixed bundle of fresh berries- multiple Shuca berries, Pecha berries, and Cherri berries tied together with their own pink ribbon. At the very bottom of the box is a plastic sleeve containing what seems to be a piece of cardboard. Removing it from the protective sleeve reveals a fairly convincing mock league card- it uses a picture of Roxie onstage at her tour's Ballonlea performance, lit up by spotlights and belting lyrics. It sports the Galar league's poison type style border, a large number "157" in the corner, and an iridescent foil finish. On the back of the card are small graphics portraying the team of pokemon she listed to Bede earlier- Amoonguss, Garbodor, Seviper, Drapion, Crobat, and Scolipede- as well as a large picture of a Toxic Badge. At the top is a small blurb: "Roxie, esteemed Gym Leader of Virbank City Gym in Unova. A poison type trainer, fierce battler, and interregionally renowned musician." It seems Bede hasn't exactly gotten the hang of the flowery and sensationalized descriptions on official league cards. On top of the box is a card, sporting Bede's signature. The lines are straight and neat, although it looks like they've been erased and redone multiple times in an attempt to make them perfect. The card reads "I seem to remember you expressing a desire for a 'cool custom card' in the past. I expect this will suffice, but if not, I've no doubt that you'll find the other gifts suitable in their own right~"

the second box is much smaller, and only contains one item: A pair of large earrings. they depict two Koffings made out of polymer clay dangling from silver chains. The earrings come with a note in flowy cursive: "Ms. Roxie, I was delighted to hear that Bede had decided to invite you over for our Delibird Day festivities. I meant to bring up the idea to him myself, you know, but he set his mind on it before I even had the chance to. I do appreciate you offering that boy your friendship... I like to think you've got him slipping out of his Torkoal shell more and more by the day. Enclosed you'll find some of my old earrings. now, I hope you don't mind getting some old woman's hand-me-downs, but I think they've about run their course with me, and they just cried out to me that they'd like to be with you. I do hope that they'll serve you well, and that you'll continue being so refreshingly, unapologetically 'you' in the new year to come. The world needs more trainers like you... and not just poison type trainers made my job so much more interesting, hm-hm! Best regards, Ms. Opal"

(*A wide grin adorns Roxie's face as they accept the two packages and excitedly plop onto the floor to open them, much like a kid on Delibird Day morning. She chooses to open the package wrapped in a pink ribbon first, undoing the mentioned ribbon, and practically tearing off the lid.*)

(*Roxie's grin widens even further, if that's even possible, eyes lighting up as he picks up the first item. She admires the Toxtricity inspired choker for several heartbeats before immediately clasping it around her neck, continuing on with the gift-opening seconds after.*)

(*They grab the Toxel plush, giving it an experimental squeeze. Once deemed soft and squishy enough, Roxie sets it on their lap to observe her going for the bundle of berries still inside the box. Although she'll likely give the rest to her Pokémon, she can't help but take one for herself and shove it in her mouth.*)

(*While chewing the sweet Pecha berry, Roxie almost misses the last item sitting on the bottom of the gift box. With a quick wipe of their hands on her pants, she gently picks up the protected cardboard. Their brow furrows slightly in confusion, only for them to immediately raise in surprise as soon as the mock league card is revealed. An excited gasp leaves his lips, bringing it closer to their face to admire it. Roxie's fingernail, painted with chipped purple, traces the front of the card as she takes in every detail. Once done, she flips it around to reveal even more. Assuming the small paragraph to be written by Bede himself, Roxie feels her chest swell with warmth.*)

(*Blue eyes drift back to the discarded lid, discovering that there's a card attached to it that she should probably read. An affectionate chuckle leaves their lips, setting the card down a bit nicer than before.*)

(*Now time for the second, smaller box. Roxie doesn't waste much time opening it of course, revealing a pair of Koffing shaped earrings... In true Roxie fashion, he's taking the earrings he already had in out of her ears and putting in her new pair. After admiring themself in the nearest reflective surface, they turn their attention to the note that had come with the earrings.*)

(*Whilst reading the flowy writing, Roxie's wide smile fades into something softer... Her fingers grip the note a little tighter as they feel their face getting hot with flattery and appreciation. And if her eyes got a bit misty, well that's something she'll keep to herself. With only a few breaths to let the nice words of both Bede and Opal sink in, she launches themself from the floor to begin writing thank you notes.*)

A list of all the pokemon my younger brother named after me while playing his first Pokemon game, White, ranked in order of how baffled I am while wondering where he got the idea to do so from:

Petilil (It's a grass-type, and I made grass-types my entire identity when I was a kid. It's an early route pokemon and he probably wanted to have a pokemon named after me because I named a lillipup after him. This checks out.)

Lilligant (A separate pokemon from the Petilil— same reasoning as above, but possibly even more clear because I used to dress up in big poofy costume skirts when I was younger.)

Venipede (I represented myself as a Scolipede for a while there in drawings, so this, too, is sensible of a connection.)

Mienshao (orange and purple were my THING for a while there. I see the reasoning, if not any similarities in vibes between me and Mienshao.)

Altaria (Not gonna lie, I think he probably only named this one after me because I talked about liking Altaria a couple times. Other than that, I don't know why he'd feel inclined to name it that.)

Volcarona (Um... Maybe because I'd catch woolly bear caterpillars as a kid and try to raise them into their adult tiger moth forms? I'm drawing a blank, guys.)

Tynamo (Why? What was going through his head when he named this electric eel? What was his thought process? What made him think of me??)
