The pandemic really did a number on my creativity. I've had a book loaded, waiting for a final edit for 2 years. But dealing with this garbage makes fussing over grammar small.

That said, I've done the final edit. Now I need to create the cover art and hit publish.

With information from the temple, they set off to Fen and Wan's birth islands to uncover more secrets. Can they stop the terror behind the mind control?All five struggle with PTSD as they dig into this mystery. Wan is experiencing horrible migraines. Tupilek went home to deal with depression. Aloma talks about her recovery. Fen built a new arm to replace the one they lost. Sun's struggles with a spirit who haunts her dreams. Can they come together to support each other?

Following the immediate aftermath of the Northern Zephyr Hub Massacre, Wan finds himself under the control of the ancient spirit Oddrisc. Oddrisc has Wan trying to free the giant skeleton spirit, the Gashadokuro. Sun’s spirit awakens in the Spectral Realm, separated from his body. With his connection to the ancient spirit Nymaroh, he needs to find harmony with his body, unlock his chakras, and stop Oddrisc. Can Wan fight through Oddrisc’s control and save himself? Will Sun be accepted as he transitions to his true self? Will Oddrisc release the Skeleton? Can Sun save Wan and stop Oddrisc?

Not NaNo update

I coincidentally have the energy to write again. This isn’t because of NaNoWriMo. My mental health is on the upswing, so we got to ride this wave.

I’m currently working on books 4 and 5 of my Scionic Cycle series. The main writing is done for B4 and I’m into the infinite editing mode. It’s all about picking apart my grammar. I’m feeling better about the story than I did in August when I finished the latest draft. The only thing that changed was my attitude.

I’m ~2,300 words into the first draft of B5. I plotted out a 2,700 outline yesterday. This doesn’t count as NaNo because the word count goal is ~20K. I’m also more concerned about wrapping up B4.

Feeling good. I hope it lasts.

The Scionic Cycle series is inspired by Avatar: the Last Airbender, but explicitly queer and set with 1940′s tech as the best tech there is. The main cast has 2 cishet men (you can’t have just one, that’s tokenism), a butch lesbian, an autistic, asexual, and genderqueer person, and an ace trans man.

B1: Life. Scion Wan is mind controlled by someone and it is up to the group to find out who did this and stop them. Sun Ching leads the investigation. They find the man responsible for a bunch of kidnappings in Attla City and stop him from controlling Wan.

B2: Death. The crew deals with their trauma from B1 in different ways in the year between books. They all come back together once it is revealed the Big Bad was part of a cult trying to bring back an ancient evil spirit, Oddrisc. Wan gets captured and tortured so that he can meld with the spirit. Sun sets out to rescue him, and learns about themself in the process.

B3: Rebirth. Sun comes out as a transgender man and surprises the world as the Light Scion. Wan is the Dark Scion and is being forced to free Oddrisc. His name changed to Kun, the Light Scion sets out to unlock all of his powers so that he can stop Wan.

Book 4: the Pact is about Wan’s PTSD from the torture he endured in the previous trilogy. He goes off to fantasy Canada in the middle of winter to die. While there, he stops a town from executing 3 refugees. Now entangled in the mess, he must take the refugees out of the mountain valley.

B5 is about Kun’s downfall. He thinks he’s the hero, but he is woefully unprepared for what that entails. In an effort to help a major city, he turns into a tyrant.

B6 is about Wan stopping and rescuing Kun.

OC Interview Tag Game - Scion Wan

​We previously interviewed Sun Ching. Today I Scion Wan Yamazki from the story Scionic Cycle in studio. It has been one year since the events of the climax of Book 1. We are talking to him today before Book 2 begins.

Sorry to interrupt, but it’s Master Scion Wan Yamazaki.

1. How are you doing today, Master Scion?

Excited. Aloma contacted me today. She wants to reconvene the group. I haven’t seen anyone in six or so months.

2. You ready to answer some questions?

I’m always ready to answer questions.

3. How do you feel about your name? Your surname?

My name comes from the first Scion, Scion Wan. She didn’t know when I was born that I was going to be the Scion. It’s a neat coincidence.

4. Is there anything you’d like to thank your author for?  

Being awesome. After the raid on the temple a year ago, I’ve been able to master my water qi. I’ve been able to learn non-magical martial arts. I didn’t realize how much punching someone hurt.

You understand that you are a main character in your book?

I’m the main character of the world. When you are the Scion, the only person in the entire world who has access to all the magic, you are the main character. It’s amazing.

5. You can only eat three foods for the rest of your life, what are they?

Rice, veggies, and spices. You can make anything tasty with the right spices.

6. Have you ever done or said anything that surprised your author?

AEthryos? Naw. I’m pretty easy to read.

7. You have limitless funds, what kind of party are you going to have?

I’m not the party planner. You’ll need to ask my mother. She’s the one who plans the galas at the mansion.

8. Tell us a quick story about something that’s happened to you that not even your author knows about… yet.

As a kid I would sneak out of the estate. I wanted desperately to blend in and be a normal person. I thought people treated me differently because I was rich. Turns out, it’s because I’m the Scion. I was gone two hours before Chikashi, our butler, found me.

9. Do you have a favourite Hero?

Scion Wan. Uh.. the first one, and me of course. Scion Attla was pretty strong.

10. What do you plan to do after this?

I am on my way to meditate up on the mountain cliffs. Then it’s time to pack and head to Attla City!

Draft 4 of B4

I’ve finished editing draft 2.2 (draft 4?) of the fourth book of Scionic Cycle. There is 17K words. The emotional through line is... off. I like where it’s going, where it is. But it’s missing something.

It always hurts when you cut over a 1000 words, but they were redundant. I said the same thing in a different manner in the chapter right before it. I did move the newer stuff into the next chapter.

I don’t have a title yet. The name holder is Thesis (Wan’s Madness). It’s about Wan dealing with his PTSD from the events of Books 1-3. He struggles with what he did and who that makes him. At the end he accepts who he is and his role in this world. He thinks his previous actions make him evil and he can never be a hero. Then he does selfless and heroic acts to save 3 people five times.

There are 11 chapters. Only 2 chapter titles I’m firm on, which are bolded below.

I set up, edited, and added to the third draft my WIP. It is the fourth book in my Scion Cycle series. It follows Wan as he deals with the cPTSD from being tortured by Oddrisc. A few quick numbers

Scionic Cycle Interview - Question 1

Hello. I am here today to share my interview questions with the cast of Scionic Cycle. In studio we have Wan, Tupilek, Aloma, Fen, Sun, Chetana, and Bao.

How many different places have you lived?

Wan: I’ve lived in one place, my family's mansion on Yamazaki Island.

Sun: Yes, his family owns an island.

Wan: That’s what happens when you’re the Scion.

Fen: To be fair, my birth family owns the island next to his. They bought it off his family several years ago.

Tupilek: Three places. I’m from the Imaq Tribe at the North Pole. I lived in Nerriungnerk, the capital of the South Pole while studying medicine. Now I live in the Village.

Aloma: The Zephyrs are nomads. We wander from temple to temple throughout the year. The two places I have stayed the longest is the Northern Zephyr Hub for two years and the Village for 3.

Fen: I lived on my family island and the Village.

Sun: I’ve rooted at three places longer than a year. I was raised in Yaosai Jin. I stayed at the Western Nimbus Center for two years. I’ve been living in the Village now for 10 months.

Chetana: I’m a Zephyr, too. The longest I’ve stayed anywhere is in the Village. It’s been 18 months.

Bao: Traveling musician. I don’t stay anywhere for more than a week.
