The Audrey! This for the lovely China Brickey as Audrey at the Guthrie's Little Shop of Horrors was a lesson in restyling for me! Different ways to back comb and fluff and shape! It was not a stationary style, but one that was designed to move with the actor, to shift and change throughout the show. Which means, for each performance there's significant maintenance that varies. Production Wig Artist, Bee Tremmel, talks about the organic nature of hair, that it's ever changing. Human hair responds to the environment and what we do to it. To have it be exactly the same every time is not really what theater is all about, we get as close as we can with the limitations of our humanity. Sometimes that's easier than others, and sometimes we really want to be exact and try really hard but it isn't always possible. The grid shows all the different ways I was able to style Audrey. This wig is an example of how we re-use (and sometimes abuse!) the wigs we make at the Guthrie. This particular wig was made new for Dial M for Murder. I originally ventilated it in beautiful shades of cool blondes in a specific highlight pattern under Bee's instruction. It survived a whole run, with various sets and restyles. For Little Shop Bee dyed it (twice to get the color the designer Sully specified), it got cut and styled, fit on China, then, throughout the whole run, Bee, Wig Assistant Jamakah Web and I restyled it for each show, Wig and Wardrobe Jenny GM put it on China each night, Jess Rau, head of Wigs Hair and Makeup, hearded all us Cats. Theatre is the OG collaborative art, it takes a Community to make the magic! I'm proud to be a part of it!!! #guthrietheater #wigs #wigartistry #wigmaking #theatermagic #littleshopofhorrors #itstakesavillage #collaboration #community #supportthearts #donatetotheater
