OOOOOOO I HEAR AND READ ABOUT THIS KIND OF STUFF IN SCIENCE CONTENT BUT I HADN'T SEEN A GOOD EXAMPLE BEFORE!!
The long wavelengths of the light spectrum—red, yellow, and orange—can penetrate to approximately 15, 30, and 50 meters (49, 98, and 164 feet), respectively, while the short wavelengths of the light spectrum—violet, blue and green—can penetrate further, to the lower limits of the euphotic zone. Blue penetrates the deepest, which is why deep, clear ocean water and some tropical water appear to be blue most of the time. Moreover, clearer waters have fewer particles to affect the transmission of light, and scattering by the water itself controls color. Water in shallow coastal areas tends to contain a greater amount of particles that scatter or absorb light wavelengths differently, which is why sea water close to shore may appear more green or brown in color.

Saiyuki boys (Hakkai, Goku, Gojyo and Sanzo) tumblr
I love reading your headcannons about them! 💖💖
I had so much fun imagining and writing this ask. It amused me greatly and I really appreciate the request, anon dear! I hope you’ll enjoy the headcanons!
Sanzo
So, I’ve always headcanoned Sanzo to have a lot of ‘old man’ traits and high among them is the fact that he’s really not all that technologically gifted. At all, really. He just doesn’t understand how to use technology and he doesn’t spend a lot of time on the internet. He really only has a tumblr because the others, especially Goku, would have bothered him into getting one. Even then, he doesn’t really use it often and he often forgets he even has one. It can be months between him logging in.
He doesn’t really understand how to use themes and even has trouble figuring out how to put an avatar up and he’s definitely not going to think to ask the others for help, half because he doesn’t really care and half because he has his pride so his tumblr is so very basic. His tumblr handle is leavemealonealready, but his blog doesn’t have a title or anything notable about it.
He follows Goku, Hakkai, and Gojyo because they make him but other than that, he doesn’t follow too many people, mostly just tumblrs dedicated to cute animals (he definitely follows dogposts and only-cat-memes). He doesn’t do the whole follow-back thing. He’s also horrible for never reblogging and only liking things.
Hakkai
Tumblr is very much a Hakkai thing and he’s probably actually the one to not only have gotten the others into it, but to use it the most. If the Saiyuki universe had tumblr, I could definitely see Hakkai scrolling through his dash whenever he got bored, though I don’t think he creates original posts often.
He does put a lot of thought into his tumblr handle, blog title, theme, avatar, and the general overall aesthetic of his tumblr. His handle would be almost hipster!like, something like ‘thelostlenore’ or ‘thepathlesstravelled’ and his avatar changes from something scenic and pretty to pictures of Jeep. He prefers his tumblr themes clean and minimal, good for both pictures and text, something like Hazy by vitaminholland. He purposefully chooses not to title his blog.
I feel like he follows a lot of people. Not only does he like a lot of blogs, follow a lot of tags, and just have a general interest in various areas, but he does do the kind thing of following people who follow him. I do think he has a few fandoms that he would be into and that he would follow tumblrs related to those fandoms, along with some generally aesthetic fandoms (especially academia!aesthetic blogs). He’s also really interested in intellectual things and would follow tumblrs of that nature, such as philosophybits, scienceisdope, etc. He also would follow some positivity focused tumblrs, just because everyone needs a pick-me-up sometimes.
Goku
Goku is the one I can see using tumblr the most after Hakkai. Hakkai has to show him how to work it but he catches on pretty quickly. His handle is songokueats and he mostly posts a lot of pictures of his food or funny pictures he snaps of the others getting into embarrassing moments. He titles his tumblr very simply, just calling it ‘Goku’s tumblr’ and his avatar is either a picture of food or an embarrassing photo of Sanzo or Gojyo until they make him take it down. He’s not really all that picky about his tumblr theme, with his only requisite being that it’s colourful and fun so I can see him using something like colorful space or Bitter Fruit.
Other than Sanzo, Goku follows the least amount of people. He follows the others, of course, but other than that, he mainly just follows a lot of food blogs and just kind of browses tags whenever he gains interest in something. He’d be the one to get really into the tumblr memes though and would overuse them.
He really likes to talk to people and online is no different. I could see him using the dm feature the most out of the four of them.
Gojyo
I think overall, if the world of Saiyuki had social media, Gojyo would prefer dating apps, Instagram, and TikTok and, while he’d have a tumblr, it would be hit or miss if he thinks to check it. It’s not his first choice for apps.
I think he was probably really into it at first and he did put thought into it. He uses a very image-centric theme, something dark and minimalistic but stylish, and the only posts he has up are images, usually selfies and usually of the thirst trap variety. His tumblr handle is l@vvrboi and his blog title is Too Hot to Handle, with his avatar being a selfie, of course.
He does do follow for follow and he does follow a fair amount of blogs, anything smutty or erotic, some cute animal blogs, along with a few advice blogs because he’s got a guilty pleasure for those kinds of things. He’s really susceptible, just saying, to clicking on pornbot links.

Thanks for the tag!
last song I listened to: Don't quite belong by dodie
last book I read: Song Of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Currently watching: Star Trek Voyager
Currently obsessed with: Greek Mythology
I don't know a lot of people here so I'll tag the nine first people I follow: @moth---man @data-lore @neil-gaiman @miss-wizard @evilwizard @evildevil42 @transfaguette @scienceisdope @gender-luster
9 people you’d like to get to know better
Thanks @moonystardust7 for tagging me, I don’t do these often but this one looked banger
Last song I listened to: my Spotify says that it was Waiting Room by Phoebe Bridgers but that’s just because I’ve been trying to branch out from looping I Know The End (also by Phoebe bridgers)
I’m currently reading: The Whispering Skull by Jonathon Stroud (the second book in the Lockwood and Co series because I’m still trying to cope with the fact the show got cancelled)
Currently watching: nothing because I don’t have time for a new hyperfixation right now but I’ll watch episodes of merlin and some of my other old favourite movies on occasion
Current obsession: would also be bbc merlin, it always lives in the corners of my mind. As mentioned I’m trying so hard not to trigger another hyperfixation right now as I’m very busy with work but Lockwood and co likes to creep back in there sometimes. Also been getting into crotchet/knitting more recently?
I’m gonna tag @softbeanofexistentialcrisis @boygirlctommy @bigpapawalkingdownthestreet @firerose @khyrrn-v2 @marcskywalker @technolilly @adrianainthesnow @hyacjnthus

RepostBy @candicemuhammad: "A Namibian schoolboy in the country’s Ohagwena Region has come up with a sim-less mobile phone that does not require airtime to make calls. The Grade 12 learner, Simon Petrus, a pupil at Abraham Iyambo Senior Secondary School created the phone using spares from a phone and television set, New Era reports. Complete with a light bulb, fan and charger socket, the handset functions off power supplied through a radiator and is able to make calls to anywhere through the use of radio frequencies. The invention, which is made up of a radio system, is attached to a box and also allows the user to view one TV channel on it. Petrus is reported to have won a gold medal at national level last year for his invention of a two-in-one machine that that works as both a seed drier and cooler. His invention of two years has been highly sponsored by his unemployed parents, the schoolboy admitted and he hopes the invention would be successful and be able to be carried further. The development marks the latest in a series of innovative projects by students within the southern African nation. Joshua Nghaamwa, a self-taught inventor, is reported to have created a satellite using parts from radios, cellphones and other electronics, The Namibian reports. The satellite, believed to strengthen internet connectivity, is small enough to fit in a laptop bag and has a USB port that allows it to be connected to a modem, router or cellphone, increasing internet speed and allows for a better online experience. Nghaamwa says he wants to introduce the device throughout the African market, so as to boost ICT on the continent. #BlackHistory #TeachOurBabiesTheTruth #MyPeopleShallRise #BlackKings #BlackExcellence #Science #ScienceIsDope"

@Regrann from @candicemuhammad - How a potato can be used to generate #electricity. The potato itself has a mixture of starches and salts and some water. A salt, like table salt, in water releases ions. Ions are atoms that have an electrical charge. Table salt releases two electrically charged ions - a sodium ion with a positive charge, and a chlorine ion with a negative charge. To make a battery with a potato, you need to put two different metals into the potato...the metals can be zinc and tin, or copper and steel, or other choices. The point is - the two metals have to be different metals. You might use a penny (made of copper) and a nickel (made of...ummm...nickel). The two different metals are different in many properties - color, density (how heavy they seem to be). They also differ in whether and how much they react with the electrically charged ions and electrons. When a metal reacts with a positively charged ion, like the positively charged sodium ion in the salt in a potato - the metal gets a bit of a positive charge. Positive electrical charges and negative electrical charges attract each other. The positive charge in the metal will attract negatively charged electrons. The other, different metal, may have a negative charge, having reacted with the chlorine in the salt in the potato. Electrons are the carriers for electricity. They also have a negative charge. If you put the two different metals, like a penny and a nickel, in the potato, and one of the metals gets more negative, and the other metal gets more positively charged - the potato battery is ready to conduct electricity. If you hook up a sensitive electric meter, or perhaps even a small flashlight bulb or electromagnet, by hooking up wire to each of the two metals in the battery - electrons will flow from the more negative metal, through the connection, to the more positivley charged metal. This flow of electrons is electricity. #DidYouKnow #ScienceIsDope #NatureIsDope #Facts #Regrann

Scientists once thought that ADHD symptoms were always present. But previous research from Rapport, who has been studying ADHD for more than 36 years, has shown the fidgeting was most often present when children were using their brains' executive functions, particularly "working memory." That's the system we use for temporarily storing and managing information required to carry out complex cognitive tasks such as learning, reasoning and comprehension.

In physics, potential energy is the energy held by an object because of its position relative to other objects, stresses within itself, its electric charge, or other factors. The term potential energy was introduced by the 19th-century Scottish engineer and physicist William Rankine, although it has links to the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle's concept of potentiality.

Shared for the cute factor. Unbelievable monkey flowers??? Yes please. ☺️💗💝💕

Found on the sides of the high mountains in southeastern Ecuador and Peru at an elevation of 1,000–2,000 meters, the monkey face orchid is a popular but rare favorite among orchid collectors because it has a distinctive monkey or baboon face in its flower.
While there is no way to confirm, some scientists speculate that the monkey-like resemblance may have evolved as a means to deter primates from munching on these orchids for a snack.

The blue carpenter bee is found throughout Southeast Asia, India, and Southern China, and they’re known for being large and heavy bees that live solitary lives, and are generally non-aggressive.
While European honey bees (the most common species in Australia) grow to just 17mm (0.67in) long, blue carpenter bees can reach a whopping 28mm (1.10in), which makes them appear eerily hefty.
