Diese woche im Hau: Love is a Verb.

Tugboat Jerkmore (of the Fremont Tugboat Company) with the schooner Adventuress passing under the Fremont Bridge, 1952.
“ 67 years ago this February, Adventuress was brought north from San Francisco by "Doc Freeman" and after a perilous trip up the coast Adventuress faced more problems as she approached Seattle. Trink Schurian in his book "Adventuress: The Four Lives" writes the following - As Adventuress approached the Ballard Locks to enter Lake Union, the Atlas Imperial engine blew apart with a piece striking the engineer Ed Anderson on the forehead. The attached picture shows Adventuress passing under the Fremont Bridge, her hull slicing through fresh water for the first time in her life. “

i love david and patrick but schitts creeks whole personal growth via becoming a business owner is a bit schurian for me tbh... is s5 worth it if i'm just in it for the gay tenderness and stevie (who is gay and tender so
it is a little schurian, but i think the key is that schitt’s creek is about learning how to behave like a human being, and that means doing some kind of work for the community. moira doesn’t own a business but she takes pride in her work, and johnny isn’t an owner of the motel, he just helps with operations (enough to get his name on the sign lol). and in general i feel that the approach to labor is very gentle and canadian; all of their jobs actually support the people of the town, and they are very much the kind of small businesses that are rightfully beloved in real small communities like schitt’s creek. it’s not a story of building wealth or anything like that. and if the stories are a bit overly rosy and avoid any major ethical conversations about labor, i don’t really care because it’s not that kind of show.
to get off that tangent, though, i really enjoyed season 5! it’s actually less about work than season 4. we get a lot of vulnerability from stevie. she has a love interest so that’s new. the big running story arc over the season is about a community theater production moira puts on, so we get some fantastic stevie and patrick moments through that. and the second-to-last episode broke and rebuilt my heart :)
