i’m manifesting it smells super yummy! was it like a surprise pick or did you get to know what notes were in it?
#i wanna order from scentbird but i’m scared cause#the last time i got a perfume sample from a subscription box…#it smelt#like straight up SALT#seraph.replies!

my brother got me a scentbird subscription for my birthday which was a wonderful gift and i am very grateful for it but the way they fucking divide their fragrances into 'perfumes,' 'unisex,' and 'colognes' is so fucking crazy. WHO is doing that anymore besides department stores and teenagers. i realize a lot of the perfume consuming public wants to wear only florals or only the citrus-cedar-musk department store masc scent triangle of doom, but just..... divide your browsing options into 'feminine' 'masculine' and 'browse all'?? there is no Browse All option!! i got very used to gender neutral being so much the standard in perfume marketing that it's almost annoying so this is a very funny change. there's people in the reviews of LIIS BO going 'i can't wear this it's too masculine for me :(". it's truly the wild west in the heterosexual community
#this long rant aside i am excited#just very shocked that a zoomer-targeted perfume seller is using terms that are not only silly but wrong#gendered target audience is not what the difference between a perfume and a cologne is and most serious people know that!!!#fragrance tag

writing out that scentbird recommendation for lila took me an embarrassingly long time… LMAO

I really hate how so many things have become are a subscription model now.
For example I remember when there multiple websites where you could by trial size/sample size perfumes for like a dollar to a couple dollars each.
You could get brand names, luxury brands, whatever for very cheap and it was really great way to see if you liked a perfume or if have one if didn't wear it often.
But now you can't really find anything like that anymore. The closest is something like scentbird or others like which are all subscription model based.
There are just so many other things that you could just access or buy as you wanted or needed that you can now only get in a subscription model form.
Not everything needs to be this way nor does everything even make sense in this form, but for the companies they make more money via this model which is why they prefer it.

"he could never be musty" PLS you are so funny. what are some other aot signature scent hcs do you have miss 🤲
lmaoooo i didn't lie!!! armin, king of personal hygiene.
ask and u shall receive. these will all be purely based on vibes.
connie doesn't have a signature scent. he's always switching it up and that's due to the fact he uses other people's fragrances all the time. he does not gaf. he will see your miss dior perfume sitting on the dresser and spray himself when you're not looking. if it smells good, he will be using it!
mikasa's signature scent is chamomile and jasmine. you smell her and get sleepy.
all I know for certain for Jean is that he would wear expensive cologne (connie uses jean's expensive cologne). signature scent would be something like sandalwood probz.
sasha changes her signature scent often (monthly actually, she has a subscription to scentbird). i think she really likes fruity scents the best like mango, coconut, cherry. fruity scents with hints of floral methinks.

i can't remember which particularly known-to-be skeevy sponsor was on one of the few illuminaughtii videos i watched (honey? better help?), but i remember thinking it was hilarious that her creator code was MLM. very on the nose. almost too on the nose. beyond parody.
speaking of things that should be called out on youtube: SCUMMY SPONSORSHIPS. i am honestly so tired of holding my nose during ad reads by my favorite commentary, review, debunking and experimental youtubers, specifically ones who are making content about influencers and social media ads' manipulative tactics turning around and doing their fucking ads for microtransaction laden mobile games, apps and plugins that sell data, overpriced vpns, unregulated unsafe sex toys and countless other things that just aren't worth the money. part of me can kind of forgive the ones that are just overpriced subscription services. you're still getting something for that and the convenience can be a factor (provided things aren't fucked up in transit, i say, having once been delivered a box of rotten hello fresh 3 days late), but it's still more expensive and more likely to trap you in a cycle of overpaying, not getting around to cancelling subscriptions, and getting junk because it's a fixed selection. part of me wants to try scentbird, even though i don't need it, because it seems so cool and charming when chad chad talks about it and I AM NOT IMMUNE TO ADVERTISING, esp from the people i have literally allowed to influence me
it's not even something that people call out much (though they do here and there... big joel talked about falling out with adam and eve on his second channel little joel, jacob gellar had a video about "therapy apps," and drew gooden reviewed magic spoon and pointed out their misleading ads and deleting negative comments and reviews). And frankly... why would you? You'd only be poisoning the well for your fellow creators, who rely on the worst of the worst to get their foot in the door before they can maybe, possibly move on to being more selective or switching to crowd-funding, so they can be in the clutches of patreon's randomly dropped subscriptions and fee changes, and the tasty tasty slice that any possible middleman takes from any way to pay creators. and if you conduct yourself as ethically as possible, well... then you have joe hills' transparency (a little joke, if you will), asking for paypal donations (because they take the thinnest slice) and counting every dollar out on stream, which would be too much for a lot of people who have a hard time with constantly asking for direct support that way.

Loving the perfume posting! I also did Scentbird (for a couple years actually) and it’s cool to see what someone else thought about some of the same samples I received! Perfume is so story-rich and very subjective, I love hearing people describe it.
I had an active scentbird subscription from 2019-2022, and I kinda miss it now tbh because it exposed me to different kinds of fragrances that I wouldn't have thought of.
I love perfume for the exact reasons you describe, and I loved all the recommendations people gave me and why they loved them, and the memories or connections associated with them.

ok a lot of goofy shit is being turned into these "subscription services" but i gotta say that scentbird is the most ridiculous one that i've encountered because whomst on planet earth is wearing enough perfume to need a monthly subscription??
#and don't try to explain to me why this isn't absurd. you know in your heart that it is silly#chatter

Do I recommend scentbird? Tbh no, I've lost track of how many times I don't receive the card with fragrance information for one of my two scents.
I've also been victim of leaky vials/atomizers, though I've only had one unusable perfume, I have many cases that are being eaten up from the leaking alcohol.
Yeah I will admit their customer service is good, like very good. Or good enough to appease me at least. I didn't care enough to email them about the unusable fragrance I mentioned above, but I did have an instance where for two months in a row i got an email stating I'd be receiving something I was excited about in my queue that month, then I got billed and they totally skipped over the perfumes they said they were sending me, but never notified me past the regular email stating they took my money and here's tracking.
So I emailed them asking why that's happening and explain i was super excited about the scents but didn't understand why I'm being told they're coming but then I'm getting something else in queue. So for whatever reason something didn't mesh up with their system when they sold through the monthly vial sizes, it was still in my queue but wouldn't roll over to out of stock like other perfumes seemingly because the sample size vials were still in stock.
All in all they gave me my choice of a free scent for my time and trouble which you know i took my time finding something pricey (retail for full bottle, since they didnt let me pick from any of the select products-which is valid) that I'd like. But anyway yeah scentbird kinda mid experience wise. You're really just paying for the convenience of perfume and a streamlined catalogue to select from.
Oof plus a friend of mine who is also a fan of fragrance bought a full size bottle (outside of scentbird/direct from distributor) of a scent she previously bought through scentbird that i also purchased (same arrival time frame as her bottle). There was a NOTICEABLE difference in the dry down scent between the two. I've seen others report that scentbird is "watered" and though I don't think they're cutting their fragrances, i do think that there is a significant product/fragrance loss during the rebottling process that makes scentbird scents lighter than if they came from a full sized (or even a sample sized) bottle direct from the distributor.
Overall am I going to take the time to email them over every small problem? No tbh.
Am I going to continue purchasing scentbird? Honestly I'm wanting to drop down to one bottle per month but unfortunately it's just "good enough" to keep getting my money as i not only like the similarity of all the tubes and cases, but American consumerism has me in a fucked up chokehold and for whatever reason I'm addicted to getting a new scent monthly as opposed to finishing out what i already have on hand.
Something something a bigger conversation to be had about mediocre product subscription services and just overall mediocre products that do serve us in some ways yes but there is better if we had the time/focus/energy to indulge and educate ourselves more on the things that we love, wow it all comes back to anticapitalism with me huh.
#sunnie thoughts#scentbird#tbh this started almost as like a sunnie reviews kind of thing#but it always seems to rope back around to anti capitalism huh#scentbird review#anti capitalism#anti capitalist#i hate the structures I've bound myself to#added a readmore because it got a little long LOL#sort of scentbird review

~~~Trusted Sites to buy perfumes and to explore more of them~~~
*The last link is for a subscription, you would take a test on what you like and receive fragrances each month until you want to stop or you've found your signature one!*
