I love Arkham Knight so much but the ending is like... uuugh, I’ve said it at least a few times before but Scarecrow deserved a better ending than he got. He was such a badass villain, he was resourceful and clever and one step ahead of Batman the whole way, not to mention he knew how to play the Bat like a violin. Crane by all means should be portrayed as one of Batman’s most threatening villains imo, what with his combo of chemistry, fear obsession, and psychology background. Rocksteady nailed him the way he was always meant to be!
But I’m getting a tad off topic. My point is that the ending actually made no sense as far as Crane being affected by his own toxins. It clearly states in his profile in the game that he is immune to his fear toxin due to prolonged exposure and that it “no longer provides the fear he so craves.” and that Batman is the only one that can elicit fear from him. The key part here is the “immune to his fear toxin due to prolonged exposure”. I like this, it makes sense, he fucking bathes in the damn shit practically, with as much time as he spends concocting better versions of it, I’m sure he both accidentally and probably occasionally purposely exposes himself to it.
Now, the main explanation I see people have for Scarecrow being affected at the end is that it’s a stronger version of the Fear Toxin. Okay, even if it is, Scarecrow should be immune. The stronger version of the Fear Toxin was created and tested on the Stagg Airships, and Scarecrow was still exposed to his own Toxin while it was being perfected, so what I’m getting at is Crane would’ve already been exposed to the stronger version of his Fear Toxin enough to be immune; he fucking makes the stuff, why shouldn’t he be immune??
I’m normally such a hero girl and I tend to not latch onto villains, but I think Arkham Knight Scarecrow was just SUCH an incredible villain that it actually makes me a little mad that he a) sort of had his big ending stolen by the Joker, who isn’t even ALIVE, and b) got affected by a single dose of his own toxin and then punched into unconsciousness by a punch that didn’t even seem that hard. Like, I’m not saying I expected Crane to have some mano-a-mano fight with Bats in the end; the guy is a string bean, he’s a walking corpse practically and he’s also quite crippled, plus he doesn’t fight up front, he uses psychology and fear gas, he attacks the mind.
In conclusion, all I’m saying is that Batman magically being so fucking amazing that he can withstand three consecutive doses of enhanced Fear Toxin (each of these three doses consisting of FOUR FUCKING FULL SYRINGES), while Scarecrow, who rolls around in and huffs this shit like 24/7 and is supposed to be immune to it because of that, gets defeated from a single dose of four syringes and then takes the weakest fucking haymaker to the face and conks out cold.
I find myself dreaming of a more drawn out ending consisting of multitudes of creepy and trippy Fear Toxin shenanigans as we chase Scarecrow through a few rooms of the dilapidated Asylum and maybe wind up in some familiar places... maybe that wouldn’t have been as good as I’m imagining it, but it sounds good to me.
(seriously, in the ACE Chemicals mixing chamber, Batman picks Scarecrow up and fucking slams his face so hard against the console that it buckles, and Scarecrow is just fine. Scarecrow isn’t a physical fighter but he’s still tough enough to take THAT kind of punishment, so that pathetic punch by Gordon shouldn’t have knocked him out. Frankly I would have felt more satisfied in Scarecrow’s end if Batman had been the one to punch him out cold (after some Fear Toxin shenanigans through the Asylum, of course).
I don’t know, am I the only one that feels Scarecrow lost a lot of potential in the end? I’m not slamming on Scarecrow, I’m slamming on Rocksteady for not giving him the end he deserved.
I love the shit out of Scarecrow and Arkham Knight but it is definitely not without it’s flaws.
#ranty rants#i just#idk????#the spoopy evil Scarebean deserved an ending befit his badassery status#and i just feel like he didnt really get that?#please tell me someone agrees i cant be alone on thius#scarecrow

"The scarecrow poured a little more juice of frog into the magical potion. "Caw caw," the crows said wisely."
I made this picture, and my friend said it reminded her of a childrens book, then proceeded to write this little line and it really stuck with me for some reason. I need a scarebean book now.

Just some pretty screenies of my favorite spoopy Scarebean!
Observation: Crane’s eyes seem to be a bit inconsistent throughout gameplay. At times they seem pale yet clear and perfectly functioning, but other times they appear entirely milky. I still prefer to think he’s blind in his right eye (left to us).
P.S. Still bothered by Crane’s lack of limp. >.>
