The model steam engines of the Western Diorama from Night at the Museum*
*only across the four movies. I don’t know whether other NATM media (ex. the novels) mention them.
NATM folks might recognize my sideblog where I’ve been focusing on that series overall -> @here-comes-moonshine. This is my main blog for talking trains. I’m not a particularly knowledgeable railfan (and any of y’all are free to correct me on anything said here). However, I’ve seen little discussion about the locomotives in this series (even the wikis are lacking in that regard), so I want to put a spotlight on them!
I’m not 100% sure what exactly the diorama is trying to represent, but I’d guess that it takes place in the latter half of the 19th century, somewhere in the West/Southwest.
The Western Diorama has had a consistent layout of two tracks: one on the upper level that appears to stretch all the way across the diorama (with a bridge portion); and one on the floor level that runs more than halfway across the diorama and appears to be under construction. Both of them have tunnels on the sides with the walls. For the original live action movies, r/modeltrains’ consensus (w/input from the apparent builder of the scene!) is that the lower track is G scale/G gauge (1.75 in, or 45 mm).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now for the engines:
Union Pacific No. 119
Tumblr media
Appears in Night at the Museum and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
UP 119 is the model engine that is seen in the opening sequences that showcase the Western diorama and in subsequent scenes taking place in that setting. From the viewer’s POV, she is the one on the upper track close to the tunnel on the right; and it appears to stay in that spot facing left in all of its appearances.
——
Union Pacific “American” 4-4-0
Built: 1868, by Rogers Locomotive and Machine Works
Gauge: Standard gauge (4ft 8.5 in, or 1435mm)
Power type/fuel: Steam/Coal
Relevant information for the time period: It is famously known for being one of the two engines that met up at the famous Golden Spike ceremony. Other than that, it worked in the Utah Division of the Union Pacific Railroad as a freight engine (WY and UT) until it was scrapped in 1903.
No. 4, The ‘Eureka’
Tumblr media
Appears in Night at the Museum
The Eureka is the model engine that was used to ram Larry’s head. From the viewer’s POV, she is the one on the lower track facing right; and she isn’t visible until she comes out of the tunnel on the left, runs forward, and then derails after failing to kill him. According to one image of the diorama, it might also have its own coach?
——
Facts about the real Eureka:
Baldwin Class 8/18 C 4-4-0
Built: 1875, by Baldwin Locomotive Works
Gauge: Narrow gauge (3ft, or 914mm)
Power type/fuel: Steam/Wood
Relevant information for the time period: It first worked on the Eureka and Palisade Railway (NV), hauling both goods and passenger trains to and from the cities Eureka (for the silver mines) and Palisade (for connecting to the Central Pacific Railroad) until 1901.
The New South Wales C32 class locomotive?
Tumblr media
Appears in Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again
I’ve asked around, and it’s definitely not an American locomotive. If @/angryskarloey’s guess at the engine’s class is right (thank you a TREMENDOUS amount, Ajax), this is actually a locomotive that was put into operation in Australia, and decades after the former two engines would’ve been built.
This engine is the only one that is visibly seen in the diorama, seemingly taking the place of UP 119 on the upper track. It also remains still and faces left throughout its appearances.
——
(Assumed) New South Wales C32 Class 4-6-0
Built: Beyer, Peacock & Company, Baldwin Locomotive Works, Clyde Engineering, Eveleigh Railway Workshops (1892-1911)
Gauge: Standard gauge (4ft 8.5 in, or 1435mm)
Power type/fuel: Steam/Coal
Relevant information for the time period: This locomotive was notably versatile, being used in goods, mail, and passenger/express services.
Fun facts:
Some American locomotives around the transcontinental railroad period were named after Greek or Roman deities. One of Eureka’s surviving sister engines was named Jupiter. Jupiter was also the name of the other locomotive that met up with UP 119 at the Golden Spike ceremony. (Pssst, Roman diorama!)
Both UP 119 and Jupiter were not the original engines chosen to pull the special trains for the Golden Spike ceremony! Both of their stories of how they ended up being the ones to replace their respective engines to go to the ceremony are rather fortunate.
The Eureka was bought by Warner Bros in 1939 and featured in many western movies. (The irony of its model engine counterpart in NATM is not lost on me.)
Eureka is one of three remaining engines of her class! Ironically, she herself is privately owned, while both of her sister engines are on display in museums Sonoma in the California State Railroad Museum and Jupiter in the National Museum of American History. (That’s a Smithsonian Institution!)
Not-so-fun facts:
The original UP 119 shares a similar fate with Jupiter of being scrapped for $1000 despite their historical significance. Replicas of both engines still exist today at the Golden Spike history museum.
In 1985, the Eureka was damaged by a fire in Old Vegas, where it was on display. It was, fortunately, restored a year later after being bought by Dan Markoff, who currently owns it.

Interracial Dating Guide #dating
Bless and Release.
Hello, I’m Jay Ramal, a 36-year-old man with roots in northern India and a hint of Middle Eastern heritage.
Standing at 5 feet 11 inches with an athletic build, I’ve journeyed through life as a passionate yogi, a dedicated affiliate marketer in the dating niche, and an interracial dating coach. Before we dive into the heart of this guide on interracial dating and marriage, let me tell you a bit more about myself.
Unlike some of our other videos, this one is audio-only. So, close your eyes, sit back, and let your imagination do the work.
I’ve had the unique experience of dating women from 28 different nationalities. You’d think the differences would be striking, wouldn’t you? Women from lands far from the homeland of my ancestors, with appearances vastly different from mine.
And yet, in many cases, I discovered striking similarities in how we were wired psychologically. Sometimes, without even talking about it, we just understood each other.
Some women shared common words, up to 20 percent, with my native languages and Sanskrit. This included women from the Middle East and Eastern Europe, creating a bond that transcended borders.
It’s a fascinating experience. If you’ve had something similar, please share it in the comments below.
Now, my passion lies in staying fit and healthy and helping others navigate the often complex world of relationships. That’s why I started WealthyLoveWell.com—to guide folks through the dating market, especially when it comes to dating across cultures.
I was born in the USA but eventually found my way to Australia, where I met my wife, an Australian woman of white Anglo-Saxon descent.
I’ve always held progressive and liberal views. I’m not particularly religious, though I grew up in a Roman Catholic family with very Westernized values.
My love for meeting women from all races and cultures stems from a genuine excitement for learning and experiencing life from different perspectives. You could say I’ve been a serial interracial dater.
And in 2024, I took one of those DNA tests—you know the type. It turns out I’m not just Indian. I’ve got a little bit of Middle Eastern and Northern European (Viking heritage) mixed in there, too. It’s a small world.
This revelation got me thinking about the concept of interracial dating. It’s not just an idea; it’s a practical reality of life on this tiny blue planet. As Carl Sagan once said, we live on a “mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.” Our geographical differences are so small that we’re practically living on top of each other on the scale of the universe.
Yet, despite our genetic similarities, cultural differences can sometimes make us feel like we’re worlds apart. We differ in how we process emotions, facts, political views, family values, and our sense of right and wrong. In many ways, we think more differently than we look.
So, I’ve put together a checklist for interracial dating and marriage. It’s drawn from my own experiences dating women from 28 different nationalities. Keep in mind that this is based on my journey, and your experience may differ. That’s okay. The goal here is to help you navigate and ensure that your dating journey leads to a fulfilling relationship, possibly even marriage, if that’s what you aim for.
Before we dive in, I’d appreciate your support. If you could, hit the like and subscribe buttons, and share this content with anyone who might benefit from it.
Now, let’s begin with the checklist.
Number 1 on the list is the “herd instinct.”
If you’re dating someone from a culture like Indian, Italian, Greek, Spanish, Middle Eastern, Eastern European, Latin American, or Pacific Islander, you might come across this phenomenon. Feel free to add more examples in the comments if you wish.
This herd instinct is something I know all too well. It’s the sense of belonging, the need to stay close to one’s family and community. When you date someone with this instinct, you’re not just dating them but their entire family.
If Nona or Abuela welcomes you, you’re quickly accepted as part of the herd, one of their own. As Dominic Toretto said in “Fast & Furious 8,” “For family.”
I find dating people from these cultures highly relatable to my own experience. Often, their extended families live nearby, and there are regular family gatherings, grand dinners, and birthday parties almost every Saturday. Attendance? Almost mandatory. People in these communities draw energy, comfort, and solace from being close to their herd, which is beautiful. Isn’t it?
If you come from a different background, you might find it hard to influence your partner to move away to another state or country. And even if they do, they may still long to rejoin the herd together at some point in your life. This can create tension in your relationship or marriage.
So, if you’re dating someone from these cultures and you have plans to move away, know that it could cause friction. Be kind and upfront. It’s unfair to expect someone to change who they are to please you.
Ask the serious question—are they willing to move away, knowing they may not see their family every week or join the herd regularly? If your date or partner is unsure or seems unconvincing in keeping you, “bless and release” may be the most unselfish thing to do.
Or you must be willing to join, like that dude from “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” who joined the big Greek family and went along for the ride. If you are willing to fully immerse yourself in their culture, this is a good sign to continue the relationship.
Number 2 – The sacred cow issue.
If you have dated an Indian, Middle Eastern, Black, Hispanic, Spanish, Russian, or Italian person, and you happen not to get along with their mother or grandmother, you may have said something disparaging, like calling them a cow in an argument with your partner, and shortly after found yourself being dumped or your marriage ended.
For the above cultures, the mother is the sacred cow. You must be willing to handle disputes with kindness and tact, even if she is wrong. Therefore, if you do not think you can handle matters tactfully and calmly in a sacred manner, it is better to “bless and release” them or not get into relationships with people who hold their mothers in the same light as the sacred cow.
Save yourself and them from future tensions, or again, I say, bless and release.

Zooming in With Herbert
Tumblr media
Christ, was this 17 years ago? Thinking about Herbert and his grooves because of this review I did this week sent me back to one of the first features I did for Mixmag back in 2006. It was a pleasure to do and really, really stuck with me - especially his bit when we were sitting on the beach about how much sonic information was surrounding us in the moment.
👇🏻👇🏻
In the sleepy Kent seaside town of Whitstable – more famous for oysters than techno – Matthew Herbert owns a modest but pretty old coach house. It’s sweetly rustic outside, functionally modern and open-plan inside. A couple of young mums from down the road have popped in to say hello and have a cup of tea; Herbert is yawning, stretching and saving the tunes he was up late making on his laptop-powered mini studio. Musical equipment is dotted around; it could be any moderately untidy techno fan’s house. Herbert himself – in Fred Perry and low-hanging jeans – doesn’t look at all out of the ordinary for a 30-something with a raving past. He holds up an artillery shell.
“It’s from a Tornado bomber,” he explains, “in fact this one was actually salvaged from a battlefield in Iraq, so it’s been used in a combat situation. It’s so well-constructed, some of the most precise craftsmanship around; but look…” He slides off part of the brass casing, taps it on the table and an incredibly clear tone rings out. “It makes a really beautiful sound, like a Tibetan temple bell or something. So I’ve sampled that…” He hits a key on the laptop and a chiming melody starts up, building into a spacey groove. It is indeed rather beautiful. “…I’ve taken something designed only to kill and changed its purpose completely.” Herbert might appear ordinary superficially, but it swiftly becomes obvious that his image as dance’s nutty professor is not far wrong.
Matthew Herbert’s compulsions to experiment and play with ideas have been obvious throughout his career. He started playing raves on the West Country free party scene with Aphex Twin. His albums are some of electronic music’s most experimental (but still listenable) works. He talked Dizzee Rascal into coming on stage with the Herbert Big Band of veteran jazz players, and his discography veers between brutal techno, gorgeous electronica and sexy disco. He’s turned politics into theatre and protest into weird noises; when he played with the Big Band in Syria (“I really wanted to play in the Axis Of Evil!”), the moment when they created a rhythm track by ripping up the Daily Mail drove the crowd wild with shock and delight (“they could be arrested and tortured if they ripped up their own newspaper, so this was amazing for them”), and at a solo show in Australia the ravers’ biggest reaction was when he sampled himself destroying the sponsors’ video tape that has been projecting footage behind him. His new album Scale, overflows with wonky noises and stunning songs. It contains samples of 723 different objects and instruments – from meteorites to petrol pumps to underwater drumkits – and for every last one of these, he has an explanation connecting it into his wider worldview.
Looking more closely around Herbert’s living space, it becomes clear there are quite a lot of books on odd topics like the philosophy of food or the economics of armaments. It’s a perfect, still Summer day, though, and we decide to stroll down to the quiet beach nearby. As we go Herbert points out how even though it seems almost silent that every sound we hear could tell someone about our situation, from the health of the birds singing to the types of cars to the type of building work going on – and how each of those illustrates the economics and ecology of the area to someone with an expert ear.
It should be enough to give you a headache just thinking about it, but the weirdest thing of all is that listening to him explain all this is oddly enjoyable. Like his music and political performances, it’s funny rather than preachy, and it’s obvious that he does it because he enjoys it. Of course, being Herbert, he has a detailed explanation of how he combines fun and ideas in his records. “I like to construct each album like a hotel. You can just come in and have a drink at the bar and have a good time – but if you want, you can keep coming back to explore much further.” Behind every door – every sound or rhythm – is something going on, he says. Through track titles and information on his websites he gives away “keys” that let you uncover a little more of what’s going on and understand the whole thing a little more. In a world where downloading individual tracks dominates, this is a unique way to get people listening to and thinking about a whole album.
It’d be easy to characterise Matthew Herbert, dance music philosopher (and ‘hotelier’!), as a classic outsider. As we sit down on the beach to continue our chat, though, he insists he had a “totally normal middle-class Kent childhood; I was a very sociable kid, really”. At school, however, he avidly looked for connections between things: “it would always fascinate me if, say, I found out that the dinosaur triceratops is called that because it has three horns. Straight away that animal is connected with numbers, words, history, and just about every other subject.” He was addicted to music from infancy too, picking up new instruments at a rate of knots, and devouring jazz and classical theory.
His introduction to raving came at Exeter University, where he got stuck into the West Country free party scene along with Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, Global Communication, and experimented with his own dance tunes. The scene was separate enough to be distinctive – “no-one could afford to get to Bristol let alone London” – and held together by the legendary Mighty Force shop and label, which brought in Chicago acid tunes and released Aphex Twin and Herbert’s first records. Herbert loved the exchange of ideas at those early free raves: “council estate lads from Plymouth or Exeter who you’d expect to be out stabbing people, dancing and talking with the landed gentry who’d given up their land for parties.” Promoters would get him to play his quirky, housey tracks after sunrise, “with everyone sitting around talking and feeling really… strange!”
Herbert kept with his organic, emotive sound – often featuring his partner Dani Sicilano’s mournful vocals – through the 90s, even as the underground favoured relentless instrumental techno. Fashions have caught up with him now - the classic Around The House and Bodily Functions albums sound incredibly fresh in today’s Minimal climate – but he has kept moving on in ever-weirder and more diverse directions. For his last album, the wonky and experimental Plat Du Jour,’ Matthew had a pie baked in the UK Foreign Office, flew it over to the site of a battle in the US Civil War, and got a guy who had served in the CIA in Vietnam under Nixon to shoot up the cake with an old Nazi officer’s pistol. The various connections between the factors in the pies destruction relates to the history of international conflict and the globalised food but just as importantly Matthew points out “it seemed like fun to go to such ridiculous lengths to blow up dear old mom’s apple pie!“
Perhaps this just sounds barking mad, but it also illustrates the method at the heart of Herbert’s madness. Life is a projectfor him, a series of schemes to have fun whilst developing his ideas about the connections between things. Almost all the money he makes from the remix and film soundtrack work which increasingly comes his way (he is currently pitching for his first Hollywood movie) is ploughed into further developing his unique musical and political ideas, and into supporting his fellow maverick artists through his Accidental, Soundslike and Lifelike labels.
The dedication to investing in creating great stuff is also important throughout Herbert’s extended musical family, including the promoters of the infamous Soundslike:Werk parties in London. These parties, as well as providing some of the most twisted electronic music and raving atmosphere in the capital – held in unusual venues like old cinemas and art centres, they are proper all-night raves where live electro, techno, grime and other, weirder electronic styles run together into non-stop delerium – are run in typically ethical fashion, with profit shares meaning that international DJs playing a couple of hours don’t get paid more than barstaff who sweat it out all night. This attention to detail means that, without being all knit-your-own-hippie-party worthy, that they can provide a genuinely mental atmosphere without the shadowy presence of rip-offs and psycho promoters - “club owners are so often a certain type of person,” says Herbert, “very very motivated by profit – it’s a very pure form of capitalism nowadays.”
That sort of commitment to making the party a collective effort is something he feels was strong in the free party scene til the Criminal Justice Act of 1994 put a stranglehold on the scene, sending soundsystems abroad or into clubs. “The potential is still there,” he says, “after all, how many people are out socialising, listening to music dancing themselves wild every weekend across the world? Millions? Tens of millions? But there’s very little sense of that having a purposenow.” One of the rare occasions where he seems less than enthusiastic in conversation is talking about purpose-built ‘clubbing bars’, which he has seen more than enough of in his years of gigging and DJing: “I would happily never set foot in another bar again; they’re all starting to look like such clichés now, no beer that’s not bottled, no sandwich that’s not a ciabatta…”.
This talk reminds us that it’s getting to lunchtime. We walk with crunching footsteps back up the pebbly beach back towards where Herbert’s hefty old BMW is parked, ready to head out to a country pub to eat. The cars (he has two souped-up Beemers), he admits, are one of the contradictions in his personal politics. “They’re my real weakness,” he laughs, “obviously I’m concerned with our oil addiction and global warming, but these do at least fit with my thoughts on craftsmanship. And they are very fast.” Rebuilt and hand-tuned, these cars will last a lifetime, unlike modern cars, designed for obsolescence and riddled with so much computer technology they’re nigh-impossible to fix.
That is one of the vital parts of Herbert’s philosophy. Whether it’s cars, political ideas or music, he believes in things built to last: antidotes to the ever-hungry and wasteful culture of constant consumption that seems to dominate now. And unlike politicised rock stars – the Bonos and Stings – he doesn’t believe in preaching; rather than tell you what you should be doing he wants to lead by example, showing that the good stuff needn’t be trash, and that thinking about your place in the world needn’t be a drag or the province of hippie dreamers. “Enjoying life,” he says, “doesn’t have to make you dumb; you don’t need to compromise, in life or in music.“
Over lunch we talk about the future. Planning long-term is out of the window right now, while he works out how to promote and tour the lush intricacies of Scale – he’s busy working out how to reproduce songs recorded with a 50-piece orchestra with 3 musicians. However as he is entirely his own boss, running his own labels and planning his own gigs, he is not bound by traditional music industry timetables, and is keen to keep the touring flexible to allow for all his other activities. He is increasingly being courted by the art world and is busy planning the first of his regular columns for a highbrow art magazine. If the aforementioned Hollywood soundtrack pitch comes off, that will take up his time for a while, otherwise he will get back to researching and reading, “looking for more new ways to make sounds nobody has ever heard before”. It’s not a bad life, being a mad scientist.

Russian UFC champ confirms Khabib rumors
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Islam Makhachev takes on the biggest challenge of his career next month
If Islam Makhachev is to become the first fighter in a decade to defeat UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, he must do so without the influence of close friend and training partner Khabib Nurmagomedov in his corner. Makhachev takes on the first defense of the UFC lightweight title he won last October when he welcomes reigning featherweight king Volkanovski to 155lbs at next month’s UFC 284 in front of what is expected to be a fiercely partisan Perth crowd cheering on the Australian champion. The scale of the task awaiting Makhachev is already apparent but it has been made that much more difficult by the impending absence of former champion Nurmagomedov, who recently announced that he has decided to step away from mixed martial arts entirely to spend more time with his family. But, according to Makhachev, this won’t change the outcome of the fight. “When the cage door close, no one is there for you,” Makhachev said this week at a media event in Australia promoting the fight alongside Volkanovski. “Of course, it’s going to be different but I’ve already fought without [Khabib there] a couple of times. And he cannot always be with me. Of course, it’s very good when he is here. “I always like when he is with me because he knows all the games being played. He knows what you need for the fight, for the weight cut, you don’t have to worry about any of this.  “It’s always good when you have someone as experienced as him. You don’t have to spend your energy thinking about other things. But I understand that he has to spend more time with his family. Because with all the fighting, the training, his family miss him too. Even though he is retired he’s still traveling a lot. “That’s why I understand.”
Despite Khabib’s insistence that he was withdrawing from the sport, many had expected him to do so only after February’s fight. Nurmagomedov, who previously held the UFC lightweight title which now rests on Makhachev’s shoulder, seemed to be key in helping to arrange the fight – even calling for Volkanovski to be the first title defense just moments after Makhachev won the vacant championship by submitting Charles Oliveira. Khabib had a tremendously successful coaching run in 2022, overseeing the rise to world titles of both Makhachev and his cousin Usman Nurmagomedov, who won the Bellator lightweight championship in November. But the man whose goal it is to seize the title belt next month in Perth says that he is only concerning himself with the fighter who will be standing opposite him when the cage door shuts on February 11. “They better not use it as an excuse once this is all done,” Volkanovski said. “At the end of the day, Makhachev will prepare and we’re going to fight. He doesn’t need someone to hold his hand. Doesn’t need someone to be in there with him. That’s not a real fighter. “So when my hand gets raised, that better not come up.”

How Surf Proud is creating a safe queer space
Tumblr media
The founder of Surf Proud Sarah Pawley shares why she set up the group and how it’s forming a strong queer community on the Sunshine Coast.
I started Surf Proud on the Sunshine Coast two years back just to have a safe spot for people who surf to hang out and catch some waves together.
I am a surf coach and I wanted a crew to share the stoke with.
My vision was to create a safe and exhilarating space where the LGBTQIA+ community and allies could come together, ride the waves, and embrace the beauty of the ocean while fostering meaningful relationships.
It’s like my baby, backed by my partner and this awesome crew of friends who are all about supporting my wild ideas.
Their hype keeps pushing me to break some boundaries and spread good vibes on a bigger scale. It’s a purposeful journey while having an all-round good time.
I wanted Surf Proud to be the support that I wished for back when I was a young surfer.

The aim was to create a vibe where everyone feels comfy, confident, and totally real, breaking free from traditional moulds.
Since starting it out though, it’s become more than I thought!
Now, as a group, we’re on a mission to shake up the surf culture, celebrating diversity in the crew.
What Surf Proud offers
Surf Proud is all about chill vibes, welcoming everyone to beach socials and fun events.
Our crew is super diverse – not just surfers, but people from all walks of life. It’s just a laid-back community where everyone’s welcome to ride the wave or not & have a good time.
We offer a variety of fun activities. From beach socials featuring games and educational ocean safety talks to trivia sessions with exciting prizes.
We aim to create a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Additionally, we offer surf lessons, and when the elements aren’t in our favour, we turn to the park for lawn games and provide surf skate lessons.
We invite everyone who wants to get involved or just kick back and have a yarn.
Lots of crew join without knowing how to surf, just wanting to hang out with like-minded people.
Sure, surfing is part of it, but the real deal is the awesome connections we make – that’s what makes our community!
We have soul surfers to toe dippers, and if you by chance want to learn the art of surfing, we have the skills and experience to help you in a safe space.

Sea Princesses English Voice Actors - Where are they now?
Tumblr media
(pictured: Voice actors following the recording of the first episode of Sea Princesses, Lost. Back (left to right): Olivia Pigeot, Mary-Ann Henshaw, Isabella Dunwill. Front (left to right): Alex Cook, Di Adams, Paige Walker, Jacqui Lofgren, Katherine Cohn.)
You can manipulate the world and use AI that's as close to real life all you want, you'll never get all the original actors and voice actors of your favourite shows back to reprise their roles on something as large of a scale as Kisekae Insights.
The voice actors who worked on Sea Princesses are rather unknown outside of Australia and some of them have moved on to different roles, both in and out of the industry. Sure, I can say that everyone came back to reprise their characters in my personal project, but where are they now in real life? Let's take a look at where the voice actors of Sea Princesses are now, nearly 20 years after the first book was released in Brazil.
For brevity, I won't be covering any credited voice actors who are still predominately acting in Australia. Bolded roles are confirmed while italicised roles are speculated through observation and/or deduction.
Isabella Dunwill – Polvina
Tumblr media
Known for her role as Geri Hallett in the soap opera Neighbours, Isabella Dunwill would voice Amy in the 2011 3D revival of Bananas in Pyjamas. In 2016, she would become the manager of the Melbourne campus of her alma mater, the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). Most recently in 2020, she participated in Miss Chess' Christmas song, Happy Jolly Very Extra Merry Christmas, released following the second lockdown in Melbourne.
Katherine Beck – Ester
Tumblr media
Credited as Katherine Cohn and not to be mistaken for Australian actress Kathryn Beck (a mistake I made way too many times in the early days of my personal project), Ester was Katherine Beck's first voice role in Australia. She would continue to be featured as a voice actress in other Australian cartoons and advertisements over the coming years. Katherine Beck currently works as an American accent voice coach and also hosts two podcasts, namely The All American Actor's Podcast and The Voice of Your Brand.
Paige Walker – Tubarina
Tumblr media
Like Katherine Beck, Paige Walker currently works as an American accent voice coach, though she has performed as an aerialist in various circuses. Tubarina was Paige Walker's only voice role. She has recently appeared as a guest on the Two Unemployed Actors podcast with host Max Belmonte.
Matthew Whittet – Hugo
Tumblr media
Although Matthew Whittet continues to be featured as an actor in Australian productions, he has worked extensively in theare and has also written some productions of his own as well, including Girl Asleep and two episodes of the 2022 Netflix reboot of the Australian soap opera Heartbreak High. He also voiced Charlie the Monkey in the 2011 3D revival of Bananas in Pyjamas.
Shannon Murphy – Tata
Tumblr media
As cited in her interview with Matthew Eles of Cinema Australia, Tata was Shannon Murphy's only voice role that she took up while studying to be a director at NIDA; a friend asked her if she wanted to be on Sea Princesses since she still had a bit of an American accent after coming back from the US. Shannon Murphy predominately works as a director on various Australian productions.
(there was also the yogurt incident of 2020 with her then-husband, Dan Wyllie who voiced Marcello, which he was found not guilty of and Murphy was found to not be "an impressive witness". Aussie Amber Heard much?)
Jacqui Lofgren – Leia, Delfi, Lia
Tumblr media
Jacqui Lofgren has had no other acting or voice roles before or after Sea Princesses. Having practiced in physie (an Australian dance style combining ballet, aerobics, gymnastics, contemporary and modern jazz) since the age of 4, Jacqui Lofgren currently teaches at North Sydney Physie & Dance. In 2015, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education (Primary) from Macquarie University.
Meaghan Davies – Elektra, Angelica (S1)
Tumblr media
While she may not necessarily be a "star talent" as Liamasterink described her, Meaghan Davies has been in productions between Australia and the US. She has voiced Megan in Tracey McBean, Tomasina in Bananas in Pyjamas and most recently, Annabelle in the Nickelodeon/Netflix series Sharkdog alongside Dee Bradley Baker and Kari Wahlgren.
Hannah Schofield – Juli, Jessi (S1)
Tumblr media
Aside her previous role in an episode of the 2002 series Don't Blame the Koalas, Sea Princesses is Hannah Schofield's only other credit. Unfortunately it has proven impossible to locate her on other platforms, thus a screenshot of Juli and Jessi is used here.
Alex Cook – Matilda, Vivi
Tumblr media
Famous for her breakout role as a child actress in the pay TV drama Love My Way as Lou Jackson, Alex Cook has also appeared in other Australian productions. She was also a producer in a number of shorts before becoming a theatre agent for Mollison Keightley Management.
Keith Buckley – Shark King, Octopus King
Tumblr media
Also known as Keith Alexander, Keith Buckley previously voiced John Tracy in addition to narrating the 1968 film Thunderbird 6. During the 60's and 70's, he has also had roles in UK dramas such as Joe 90, The Secret Service and UFO. After moving back to Australia, he has featured in local productions (including Bernard the Dog in the 2011 3D revival of Bananas in Pyjamas) and does various narrations and voiceovers for documentaries and advertisements. Recently, he was also a guest on The Gerry Anderson Podcast.
He is not to be mistaken for the English actor Keith Buckley, who died in December 2020.
Mary-Ann Henshaw – Octopus Queen, “Jaune” (Lost), Marli, Camarina, Elektra (S2)
Tumblr media
(screencap taken from The Summer of 77, 2001)
Mary-Ann Henshaw's only other role in Australian children's television was Amy in the original Bananas in Pyjamas from 1992 to 2001. After Sea Princesses, Mary-Ann Henshaw was never featured in other productions nor was she locatable on other platforms, so any recent news on her is unknown.
Olivia Pigeot – Miss Marla
Tumblr media
While Olivia Pigeot continues to feature in Australian productions, she has also been a yoga teacher and in 2019, founded Bondi Kids Drama, offering classes and workshops for primary school children in drama and short film.
Robina Beard – Starfish Grandmother
Tumblr media
From the 60s to the 80s, Robina Beard was best known as Madge the Manicurist in Palmolive ads for Australia and New Zealand. She has appeared in various stage and TV roles and in 2018, published a book titled My Life – Your Soaking In It. In January 2011, she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for her service to the arts before receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Australian Dance Awards in July that same year.
John Leary – Caton
Tumblr media
In addition to his roles in television, film and theatre, John Leary hosts The Saturday Quiz podcast where he asks guests questions from the quiz in The Saturday Paper.
Jamie Croft – Caramelo, Mr Bernardo (S2)
Tumblr media
As a child actor, Jamie Croft played Billy Moss in the Australian soap opera A Country Practice and Fred Kelman in the 1995 Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers movie. Later on, Jamie Croft transitioned from acting to being a music producer and event manager, eventually becoming the manager to singer-songwriter Harrison Storm (according to his LinkedIn profile).
So from the credited cast of Sea Princesses, who would be most likely to reprise their role if there were to be a revival or reboot? Well, I think it would be easier to ask who would be unlikely to reprise their role, and that list would include Shannon Murphy, Jacqui Lofgren, Hannah Schofield, Mary-Ann Henshaw and Jamie Croft. But hey, in my personal project, who cares about availability? As long as they aren't dead, I can say that they "reprised" their roles all I want. Well, except for a few times in the past, but that's the exception rather than the rule.

Best IELTS Coaching Institute In India
Are you planning to study or work abroad and need to prove your English language proficiency? Look no further than the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). With its global recognition, IELTS is one of the most popular exams for non-native speakers of English. However, preparing for it can be daunting without professional guidance. That's where we come in - in this blog post, we will introduce you to the best IELTS coaching institute in India: Cambridge English Academy. Get ready to ace your test with their comprehensive course!
What is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a standardized test that measures the proficiency of non-native speakers in the English language. IELTS assesses four key skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. It's recognized by over 10,000 organizations worldwide, including universities, employers, immigration authorities and professional bodies. There are two types of IELTS tests available - Academic and General Training. The Academic module is intended for those seeking higher education or professional registration abroad while the General Training module focuses on basic survival skills in social and workplace contexts. The total duration of the exam is around 2 hours and 45 minutes with specific time limits for each section. The Listening section lasts around 30 minutes followed by Reading which takes about an hour. Writing requires you to complete two tasks within an hour whereas Speaking usually lasts between 11-14 minutes. IELTS aims to provide accurate measurement of your English language abilities based on international standards so that you can pursue your desired education or career path without any barriers related to languages proficiency.
Why Take the IELTS?
There are several reasons why individuals take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Firstly, many people require an IELTS score for academic purposes. This is particularly true for students who want to study in universities where English is the medium of instruction. Secondly, some employers and professional organizations may require job applicants to submit their IELTS scores as part of their application process. This is because many companies prefer candidates with excellent communication skills in English. Thirdly, taking the IELTS helps individuals assess and improve their language proficiency. Even native speakers can benefit from this test since it provides a standardized measure of one's abilities in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Obtaining a high score on the IELTS can open up opportunities for personal growth and development. It can help individuals pursue further education or career advancement overseas or even migrate permanently to countries such as Australia or Canada which recognize IELTS scores for immigration purposes.
IELTS SCORE SCALE
The IELTS score scale is a crucial aspect of the exam. It helps determine an individual's proficiency in English and their ability to communicate effectively with others. The scoring system ranges from 0 to 9, with each band representing a specific level of proficiency. A score of 9 indicates an expert level of understanding and command over the language, while a score of 0 represents no knowledge or very limited understanding. Most universities and colleges set their minimum IELTS requirement for admissions at around Band 6-7. To achieve a higher band on the test, it is essential to have good reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Additionally, practice plays an important role in improving one's scores as well as time management during exams. It is necessary to understand how the IELTS score scale works before taking the exam so that you can set realistic goals for yourself based on your desired university or college requirements.

MS DHONI
Barring Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni is probably the most popular and definitely the most scrutinised cricketer from India. He has got to this point coming from the cricketing backwaters, the mining state of Jharkhand, and through a home-made batting and wicketkeeping technique, and a style of captaincy that scales the highs and lows of both conservatism and unorthodoxy. Under Dhoni's captaincy, India have won the top prize in all formats: topping the Test rankings for 18 months starting December 2009, the 50-over World Cup in 2011 and the World T20 on his captaincy debut in 2007.
Dhoni, then a ticket inspector with the Indian Railways, had escaped all attention bar the odd whisper among the followers of club cricket in Kolkata until he was 23, when he blasted two centuries in a triangular 50-over tournament for India A in Nairobi. Long-haired and fearless, he soon swaggered into international cricket, and became an instant darling of the crowds with ODI innings of 148 and 183 within a year of his debut.
Dhoni demonstrated all that was right with the new middle-class India. He didn't respect reputations, but never disrespected either. He improvised, he learned, but didn't apologise for his batting style, which was not the most elegant. He became a multi-faceted ODI batsman, one who could accumulate, one who could rebuild, and one who could still unleash those big sixes.
Along the way Dhoni showed leadership skills, which were recognised when Rahul Dravid gave up the captaincy in 2007. Just before that announcement from Dravid, Dhoni had taken a bunch of kids to South Africa and was leading India to a World Cup win in a format the country didn't even take seriously. The ODI captaincy was natural progression, and Anil Kumble just kept the seat warm in Tests for a year.
Dhoni brought to captaincy a thick skin and relative indifference to results that an Indian captain needs to keep the job for long. Along with coach Gary Kirsten, he put his senior performers in a comfortable place, and they returned the favour with some of their best years in international cricket. His calmness on the field helped and worked like a charm in the shorter formats, although tactically he sometimes sat back for too long in Tests. All that can't argue with the fact that India had some of their best years in Test cricket, in terms of tangible achievement, under Dhoni.
However, post the 50-over World Cup win in 2011, which Dhoni sealed with a timely 91 and his patented helicopter shot, an ageing team kept losing in unfamiliar conditions. After eight straight Test losses away from home, Dhoni the captain came under immense pressure, which was accentuated by a 2-1 home series loss to England in 2012-13, the first time India had lost at home in more than eight years. This brought out a new chapter in Dhoni's career wherein he seemed more assertive as a captain, started building a new team, played his best Test innings on a turner to win India the Chennai Test against Australia, and became the first captain to lead India to four wins in a series.
Away from home in the winter of 2013-14, India lost Test series in South Africa and New Zealand by 1-0 margins that did not reflect how close they came close to wins on both tours. The England tour of 2014 began promisingly, with a drawn first Test followed by a historic win at Lord's, but India crashed to earth immediately afterwards to lose the series 3-1. At Old Trafford and The Oval, with the batting crumbling around him, Dhoni played a couple of his bravest innings in Tests, dealing with the seam movement and bounce by stepping down the pitch and taking blows on his body.
Wins once again proved elusive on the tour of Australia that followed, though India competed ferociously thanks to a young batting core led by Kohli.
Kohli had captained the side in the first Test, with Dhoni injured, and he would lead them in the fourth Test too, with Dhoni making a surprise announcement after the third Test in Melbourne that he was retiring from the longest format.
Though his game was not as suited to Tests as it was to limited-overs cricket, Dhoni ended his career in whites with a proud record for a wicketkeeper: 4876 runs at an average of just over 38, and six hundreds. He had also captained India to more Test wins - 27 - than anyone else.
Dhoni continued to lead India in the shorter formats, and they shrugged off a win-less tour of Australia by reaching the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup. A year later, they won the Asia Cup T20 in Bangladesh but exited the World T20 in the semi-finals, at home. Dhoni enjoyed a good tournament as a finisher, scoring 89 runs while only being dismissed once in five innings; he showed electric reflexes while keeping to the spinners, eventually playing on till the 2019 World Cup, though he gave up the limited-overs captaincy in January 2017.
India's defeat to New Zealand in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup turned out to be Dhoni's final international match, although that wasn't officially confirmed till more than a year later. In the immediate aftermath of that result, there was lots of speculation about whether Dhoni would call it quits. He didn't, but he did opt out of India's series for the rest of 2019 and early 2020. The Covid-19 pandemic then brought all sporting action to a halt. Just as players' preparations for the delayed IPL began, in August, on India's Independence Day, Dhoni made the big announcement - on Instagram. He was retiring from all international cricket.
In the IPL, Dhoni has been the face of the Chennai Super Kings franchise. He became so deeply associated with the city that he even became a co-owner of a Chennai-based football franchise. But in 2016, with Super Kings suspended for two seasons over issues stemming from the spot-fixing scandal of 2013, he was part of the IPL's new franchise Rising Pune Supergiants. Super Kings were reinstated in 2018 and Dhoni was back at the helm, leading the team to a fairytale third title. He almost repeated the feat in 2019, losing a thrilling final against Mumbai Indians by just 1 run. Sidharth Monga
