DELETING AFRICAN STREAM, BUT NOT BBC?'
Africans across the continent and worldwide are outraged about tech giants banning African Stream across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok and Gmail. In this video, Seun Kuti, musician, singer and Pan-Africanist organiser with @MOVEMENTOFTHEP1 (on X) (and son of revolutionary African music icon Fela Kuti) spoke up about the hypocrisy of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken claiming African Stream is ‘secretly run’ by RT.
How can the United States denounce African Stream for supposedly ‘attempting to influence US elections’ and allegedly representing ‘foreign interests’ when BBC and CNN are allowed to spread information designed to influence African audiences?
The BBC and Voice of America (VOA) are state-funded media that explicitly promote pro-British and pro-US interests, respectively. BBC says it aims to ‘reflect the United Kingdom, its culture and values to the world.’ Voice of America (VOA) is even more explicit in its mission. The US Agency for Global Media states on its website, ‘The long-range interests of the United States are served by communicating directly with the peoples of the world by radio.’
So, BBC can work to spread British values, and the US can create worldwide radio programmes to serve US interests, but Africans are not allowed to have a media platform that works for African interests? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Being Fela’s son not reason for my success as a musician – Seun Kuti
Tumblr media
Grammy-nominated singer Seun Kuti has said his musical success isn’t tied to being the son of late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Kuti. He said he and his elder brother, Femi Kuti, and nephew, Made Kuti, have had successful music careers because of their “deliberate efforts” and “dedication”. The controversial singer said Fela’s father, Reverend Israel Ransome-Kuti, was also a musician but people never credited his musical achievements to his father. Speaking in a recent interview with actress Iyabo Ojo, Kuti said, “It is not because of our dad that we are successful in music. My brother, Femi Kuti is 60. I am 40. My nephew, Made Kute is behind us now too, and he is in his 20s. And he is actually the best of all of us. That’s what it means; it continues to progress because we are really dedicated to it. “It’s not just because we are Fela’s children. I mean, nobody says Fela is a musician because his father was a musician. Nobody knows that Fela’s father was a musician. My grandfather was a musician. He recorded albums, he wrote a lot of hymns. My great grandfather was the first person in Nigeria to record a song. We came from a lineage of musicians. “We even have a brother that grew up in Australia that didn’t grow up with the family, he didn’t even know that he was a Kuti until his 50s, he’s not a musician but he is a creative art director. It’s what we are. We are creative people. So, when people say we are successful musicians because we are Fela’s children, they are just being half clever.” Read the full article

Most musician's second job is Prostitution’ – Seun Kuti
Most musician's second job is Prostitution’ – Seun Kuti. Grammy-nominated afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti has asserted that most musicians’ side hustle is “prostitution.” He claimed that less than one per cent of the world’s musicians are not into “prostitution.” He made the bold claim in a video message shared via his Tiktok page recently. Kuti said, “Someone asked me why am I wearing nail polish like a prostitute. You don’t know that I’m a prostitute? “Okay, that guy must have come to this life late. I’ve said before that all the musicians in this world except just four out of the millions of musicians in the world are not prostitutes. “As a musician, your first job is to play music. Your second job is prostitution. I’m saying it live and direct. And it’s true of me and all your favourite musicians.” ALSO READ: Davido Breaks Silence on His Twins and Netflix Documentary Read the full article

Rocky Dawuni drops New Single “Shade Tree”, OUT NOW on all platforms!
New Post has been published on https://plugzafrica.com/rocky-dawuni-drops-new-single-shade-tree-out-now-on-all-platforms/
Rocky Dawuni drops New Single “Shade Tree”, OUT NOW on all platforms!
International musician, songwriter, producer and activist, Rocky Dawuni releases his new single “Shade Tree” worldwide on September 12, 2023. The single will be the first from the 3x GRAMMY Nominated musician’s forthcoming new album set to drop in 2024. “Shade Tree” is a timely new global anthem of empowerment and unity from the Ghanaian star.
The song is based on the concept of the tree that provides shade for all of the various “shades” of humanity. It is a convergence point and an oasis for all people. The shade tree is where conflicts and disagreements can be resolved; it provides “a shelter from the rain” which is shared amongst everyone. Humanity shares this common destiny because we are nature and our destiny is intimately entwined with each other and with all of life just as the roots of the tree. Under the tree we are a community in our individuality.
  Listen Here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/rockydawuni/shade-tree
As the lyrics say “we are one, but we are not the same.” Just like the leaves of the tree, we are not all of the same as we represent different textures, colors and shades but we all share the same roots. The song is from a perspective of a lonely soul, seeking connection and community which is found in various manifestations in everyday life where people gather, celebrate and find connection from isolation. At a time when Africa is awakening to new political realities and the wider world is grappling with further geo-political divisions, this is a poignant song that reminds people of our shared humanity.
Rocky Dawuni’s own unique “Afro Roots” sound mixes Roots Reggae, Afrobeat, Highlife, Soul, Pop & more. A galvanizing performer, Dawuni has shared the stage with luminaries including Stevie Wonder, Ozomatli, Peter Gabriel, Angelique Kidjo and many more. Rocky was named one of Africa’s Top 10 global stars by CNN having showcased his talent at prestigious venues such as The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and The Hollywood Bowl. Rocky is a dedicated activist serving as a UN Goodwill Ambassador for the Environment for Africa and a Global Ambassador the World Day of African and Afro-Descendant Culture as well as running his own Rocky Dawuni Foundation. Through these and other designations he uses his music to shine a light on crucial issues facing humanity across the globe with live concerts, speaking roles, panels, youth empowerment and much more.
“Shade Tree,” written by Rocky Dawuni, has additional production by GRAMMY Nominated engineer and musician extraordinaire, Anthony Brewster as well as renown engineer Michael Vail Blum. The song was mixed by multiple GRAMMY Award winning engineer and producer, Qmillion aka Keith Lewis, known for his work on the Robert Glasper “Black Radio” albums, Seun Kuti and more. Drawing from diverse influences and vocals stylings that sometimes recall classic soul singers like Curtis Mayfield and D’Angelo, with a production approach that merges elements of Hip Hop, Reggae and soul stirring social commentary,” Shade Tree” keeps things moving with its irresistible conscious groove heralding a new world of hope.
“Shade Tree” is NOW AVAILABLE worldwide on all platforms at: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/rockydawuni/shade-tree

#IStandWithSeun trends as Police detained the Son of late Fela Anikulapo Ransom Kuti
Tumblr media
After Seun Kuti showed up at the Police Commissioner in Lagos earlier today, he was arrested, handcuffed, and taken to SCIID in Panti by officers apparently for further investigations and possible detention over his altercation with a police officer on the 3rd mainland bridge. He fulfilled his promise to cooperate fully with police investigations and accordingly visited the commissioner in Lagos with his lawyers. Many well-wishers, friends, and fans have turned to social media to have their voices heard via the hashtag IStandWithSeun. See some of what many of them are saying below.
