I don't believe in foah but i do believe in crush culture, especially when it comes to famous people that have a limited dating pool due to their "status as celebs that get creepily irl stalked" (this has happened to an underaged finn and noah before - the noah one even captured on camera that can be found on tiktok during the pandemic quarantine while in the finn one he tells bill hader in an interview about being stalked by a grown man all the way to his house almost that had the audacity to shoulder checked him to get finn's attn). in a vid complitation of finn and noah friendship, it's clear that finn goes out of his way to include noah during s2 promo since will wasnt well known in s1 and there's an old article out there about the 1st time they met during st casting call.

apparently finn tells the interviewer of the article how when casting was officially done, he highlights how when he met noah again as a co-actor that noah forgot about him lol. noah didn't remember finn from the audition but finn remembered noah. finn also said that he was shocked/excited that the voice of charlie brown (noah) was here while noah couldn't recall anything finn's been in. So, to me, when reading that article it felt like finn cared about noah in the beginning as a crush of admiration like "crushing cuz i wanna be successful like this kid already". and finn expressed in another interview how he's afraid to be a washedup child star while playing in both IT and st.

so imo foah is more about the two acknowledging the other's talent, especially since they both tried out for each other's st role (finn went for mike and will same as noah). if anything I thought finn had a crush on caleb cuz multiple instances on vid where finn gushes about caleb's acting skill (when caleb did an excellent billy roleplay during a guess who that character is game and in the s2 promo vid where finn compliments caleb A LOT compared to the other actors, while caleb only complimented gaten but that could be just the netflix editing team cutting n splicing, comment did poke fun at how finn hyped up caleb and how caleb didnt mention finn at all). in one early vid finn had to get caleb to hug him cuz caleb only hugged gaten in greeting as those two met previously on broadway cuz they had a longer history. caleb was going for a handshake/dap but finn had his arms open for a hug like how gaten got one right before finn was noticed by caleb. and in the same interview where finn told how noah forgot they had met already, finn describes caleb as cool and funny from the 1st time he saw him during casting calls. But again that can just be finn being mesmerized by all the talent his peers possess since he is passionate about his craft.

Yeah, these are all valid counterpoints! It's interesting no one has ever really shipped Faleb... or Faten? (I don't know what their ship names would be). But that's maybe partially because people have always subconsciously seen them as straight while subconsciously seeing Finn "his eyes soften" Wolfhard as queer? And also because Finn does seem to be especially close with Noah compared to the others?

Hmm, I've never thought of the idea of Finn having had a crush on Caleb before, but that's an interesting concept. Everytime I see those hate posts with lots of likes I remember that Noah’s spam acc almost has 600k followers. Not all of them are fans but yk what I mean. Also his WB post got 1mil likes or a little bit more. It’s a post about Will, but people still liked his post, his haters don’t do that lol. There are 8bil people on this planet, most of them don’t even know about Noah or just don’t care. And yeah, some of them just follow what other people say, especially on twitter. Also didn’t a post on tiktok about people having a crush on Noah in the past (it was about him coming out as gay, not him becoming "problematic") got 1mil likes?

Sometimes it’s cool that I’m from Eastern Europe ha. ST fandoms here love Noah or just don’t care about him. There are few Noah haters but I noticed that most of them are obsessed with twt/western internet culture so that tracks lol. There’s a vid about his cancellation and it got almost 100k views and all of the comments (there were like 5 hate comments only I think haha) were supporting him or saying something like “Damn that was a stupid move from him why did he do all that but whatever not a big deal”

it’s impressive that after all the hate he’s has received, he’s still the most followed male actor in the show. that says a lot about his appeal and like you mentioned, he also has a successful new tiktok which is impressive considering that it’s private and he keeps kicking people out if they are hateful.

yes, i also saw that tiktok of a girl remembering how she cried when noah came out because she had a crush on him. it was posted quite recently and got like 1M likes, it was full of other girls expressing the same sentiment.

i’ve also talked with some friends about the fact that i think this whole outrage is a very american thing. i don’t want to dive too deep into my opinions about that but i agree with you on that one and you can ask a bunch of non-americans and you’ll get the same answer that most people actually don’t care at all because there’s other crazy stuff happening in our own countries.

i feel like normal people that aren’t as chronically online really don’t care about his “controversies”. remember that aggressively wasted report a few months ago, i saw a tiktok reporting it as news for a more adult public and most of the comments were like “yes he’s a teenager, i also got drunk at his age”. my favourite comment was one that said something like “let noah party” and i was like “yes, let noah party” lol

Chubby Izuku, my beloved (tw: some fat shaming and low self-esteem)

By the time of the Entrance Exam, Izuku has cleaned up several spots across the city. It even becomes a topic online, though he's not aware that he's being talked about.

Redditors and bloggers talking about the city note how much cleaner certain spots are, pointing to photos of a chubby boy in a blue janitor jumpsuit and black cap covering his head, wearing a face mask to cover himself. While a few people think it's a coincidence, others start calling him The Cleaning Fairy and refer to sightings of him.

"Ah, he got nervous when he saw me taking pictures."

"Of course he would. Who knows what people have said about him? This country doesn't treat janitors right."

"He's just doing his job. Why does this thread exist lol"

"Hey, check this out. Saw a picture posted by this agency, and it seems they got hired by the city to clean up a beach. They blurred his face out, but look at that jumpsuit. That's definitely The Cleaning Fairy."

"So he's employed with them?"

So, while Izuku doesn't realize it, he starts getting a few small fans who look up to his earnest efforts and quiet work ethic. Considering the fact he could be a minor, they dialed back some of their investigative work, but hoped they'd continue seeing more of him soon. They'd do so sooner than they realized.

Izuku stands at the entrance area, several students present and walking around to find their assigned spaces. It's so strange, being there, looking at his dream school with wide-eyed infatuation and awe. He never thought he'd be able to make it this far, and yet...

There were kids of all sorts of shapes and sizes, though most of them looked to be the size of other people. A few of them were closer to his weight, but he still stuck out. That's why, when someone loudly said "Move out the way, lard ass," he had the immediate feeling they were talking to him.

It takes him a moment to realize he recognizes that voice after moving to the side. And surely enough, Katsuki comes up from behind him, his neck wrapped with a scarf in the cold weather. Aside from his usual irritability, he doesn't do anything else, not touching or referring to Izuku any further.

Izuku waits anxiously for him to walk off, hearing some people recognize the explosive boy... Then, it's time for him to enter. He breathes in deeply and heads in, his shoulders almost hunched up to his ears from how small he tries to make himself.

However, he ends up misstepping, tripping on his own leg. He knows how to tank a fall, thankfully, from all those videos he'd watched. So he raises his arms, hands splayed, and he bends his knees to lessen the pressure on his body.

But before he falls, his body suddenly feels lighter.

He blinks a few times in quick succession, startled by the sudden change. Then, he hears a girl talking at his side.

"Are you alright?"

Izuku looks up, seeing a kind brown-haired girl with pink cheeks. She smiles at him as she helps him stand up straight. He looses the weightless feeling once his feet are settled.

"Oh...uhm..."

"Sorry for using my quirk on you. I just felt like it'd be bad luck to fall here, you know? I bet you're as nervous as I am, huh?"

"Ahh..."

His words fail him. Girls his age usually don't bother trying to speak with him. This is new.

She looks at him for a moment, her cheeks becoming a tad more red before she laughs.

"W-Well, best of luck to you!"

As she leaves, he doesn't hear her, but she murmurs under her breath.

"That was such a cute guy..."

He doesn't snap out of his daze until a moment later, realizing he never got to thank her.

When he gets to the auditorium and sees the seating configuration, his heart drops through the floor. Of course there's a bunch of people already seated. Of course he's too chubby to make it through without bothering them. Of course his seat is right beside Kacchan's.

Most of the other larger people have end seats. However, their sizes and weights are often correlated to their quirks, so seating could be prepared for them. However, since Izuku's quirkless, the same accommodations weren't necessary for him.

He breathes in softly, hands starting to shake, and walks up to the person at the end.

"E...Excuse me."

The guy, looking bored and sleepy in the early morning, looks up at him. Izuku points over past the boy.

"My seat is...over there. Um...I'll pass behind you. If that's okay."

The stranger's face curls with derision, an expression Izuku's quite familiar with. He apologizes several times, squeezing behind the guy as he heads in. He continues to apologize with each person he passes behind, some looking irritated while others look nonplussed, even telling him it's fine.

Eventually, he makes it to his seat, Katsuki scoffing at him.

"Surprised you brought your dumb ass here after all."

"Uhm...yes..."

"If you try to get in my way, I'll end you before it starts. Got it?"

"Y...Yes, Kacchan..."

Katsuki scoffs again, then turns his attention to the front, deciding to ignore his existence. Izuku sits as small as he can despite not being among the largest people in the room, and waits for the presentation to start.

And when it does, he can't help but feel excited! It's Present Mic!

When he says his signature intro, Izuku actually utters out a quiet, wobbly "Hey" with it. In the absolute silence of the room, it sticks out like a sore thumb. He's immediately red up to his ears, but the Pro Hero takes a shine to him.

"Yeah! That's what I like to hear! It's time to Wake Up this morning, kiddos!"

Though, Izuku knows the snickering he hears around him isn't an attempt to laugh with him. He shrinks in his seat, wanting to disappear.

It only gets worse when he can't get a handle on his murmuring. When a very astute-looking guy with a muscular build stands and asks about the fourth enemy, he also turns to Izuku.

"You there, with the curly hair!"

Izuku freezes up immediately.

"Can you sit still and stop talking for a second? You're distracting! If you're here at U.A. for fun, leave this place at once!"

He's almost in tears immediately, feeling them build in his eyes. Izuku really just wants to disappear, but... But the boy is right. He should be quiet.

"Yes... I'm sorry."

He manages to stay silent for the remainder of the announcements before they separate to take the written exams.

He doesn't take too long to finish, thankfully. The questions are mostly things he's studied, and the other part of the test with the hero-specific questions are often multiple-choice or open-ended. They need to know your school smarts and ethics after all.

Then, the part before the practical exams: the interview.

Izuku enters a room without any people in front of him. Instead, there's just a camera and a speaker, likely to ask him the questions. The voice that comes out of the speaker is clearly modulated or is perhaps robotic, not giving Izuku any possible way of discerning who is asking the questions.

He settles in the chair, shifting slightly until he gets comfortable.

"State your name, ID number, and current school."

He startles, squeaking, before answering.

"Oh, uhm... Midoriya Izuku, AL10532, Aldera Junior High."

"State your quirk."

"Uhm...q-quirkless."

"State the primary and secondary courses to which you're applying."

There's no pause between his answer and the next question. It's so strange to experience that. Usually, whenever someone asked what his quirk was and he answered, there'd be an awkward pause. But they express no such thing, simply going through the list for the time being.

"Uhm...th-the Hero and General Education courses."

"What do you think makes someone a good hero?"

A change in tempo. So, the voice is modulated. There are real people listening to his answers.

"Uhm...I think a hero is...someone who helps others."

"Can't any person, hero or not, help other people?"

"Well, y-yes, but... I think there's a difference between helping others and risking yourself for others. Heroes...put in a level of personal risk others can't or won't."

"Do you think part of heroics involves their power?"

"...T-To an extent, yes. I-I mean, having a quirk...would definitely make saving others...possibly easier. It's possible. I just...uhm...power is...relative. It depends on what someone can...or does...do with their quirk, not...uhm, if...they have one."

It feels strange to say such a thing to a school. It feels like he's trying to argue with them, which is certainly not what he wants. He makes himself smaller in his chair, looking down at the ground.

"What can you offer as a hero?"

...That's the big question, isn't it?

He opens his mouth, then closes it. He thinks about how to answer, floundering in his attempts. So, it takes him a few moments before he can speak.

"I...I think, I can offer...help. I...I'm quirkless. I know that. I know I can't do much. I don't have super strength or hearing, I don't have any particularly special powers. I'm not the smartest or fastest, either..."

He trails off...then looks up at the camera, smiling weakly.

"I-I'm not sure anyone would feel confident if they saw me. They'd probably be put off. But...I think there'd be another person. Someone who...someone who needs help and can't get it from anyone else. Someone who reaches out... And...I have a hand I can reach back with." He sits up straighter. "I-I promise I won't be a hinderance! I know I'm weak. But, I...I would like to be given a chance, please!"

There's a beat of silence.

"Is your desire to help enough to allow you the right to be a hero?"

Another tone change, this one deeper in a very subtle way. And the question digs into his chest with barbed teeth.

"...N-No. Just because I want it, doesn't mean... It's just, uhm... I know my desire...what I want doesn't really matter. It's what people need that matters. And, uhm, a lot of people need someone to protect them, or even just..."

He might as well be honest.

"...I have no right to be a hero." He smiles tightly. "I'm just stubborn."

There's a bit of silence. Izuku can't see it, but in the room of teachers, a certain principal looks up at a blond man. Said blond's mouth presses tightly, upset, but otherwise not expressing it.

The voice starts again, coming from someone who isn't the blond or the principal.

"If you have no right to be a hero, why did you apply?"

"Because I'm stubborn. And...and U.A. opened up entrance possibilities for quirkless students. So. I'm going to try. And do my best. And if that isn't enough, then that's okay... I have no right to be a hero. But...uhm. If I could be one, it'd be a...it would be a great privilege."

"What do you have that others don't?"

"...Uhm...nothing, really. I think that, uhm...I'm not different from anyone else. I just think I can, uhm...I think I can help. That's all. And if I can, then that's...that would be good."

"Tell us about a time you behaved like a hero."

Another tone change. Lighter voice, slightly faster tempo. That makes four.

"B-Behaved like a...uhm..." Izuku scratches at the back of his head. "...I-I wouldn't say I was a hero, but...uhm...I... Well..."

He breathes in deeply, then thinks.

"...One time, I finished cleaning up a small courtyard. It was just a little one, not much space or trash there. It used to be really pretty, but after a villain attack, uhm, the rocks and stuff... It blocked up the space. No one was paying much attention to it, so the plants and stuff...and some people threw out trash. So I...decided to clean it up."

He blinks, reminiscing.

"Then, one day, after I cleaned up, I passed near the area. And, uhm...the people living near the courtyard. They decided to...have a party. They were eating together there, and they, uh, looked like they were having fun. I...saw an old man in that area. He seemed...content? I guess. He looked kind of sick. Uhm. He had tubes in his nose, connected to a tank. And I thought...well. If he was able to enjoy that courtyard...uhm, even just that once. Then. That was...good."

Silence.

"How many people have you spoken to during this interview?"

"Huh? Uhm...f-four? N-No, five."

Five, including the new one for the last question.

Silence again.

"Thank you for your time. Please continue to the practical exam."

Completely off topic but I wanna rant abt something for a moment (hence why I’m now sending this w anon and not my blog) but the video reminded me of something that happened to my friend in which she made a post on her UTDR related ask blog which was really simple just a “hey don’t misgender Kris/frisk/chara on my blog” and that was basically it. That was the post. BUT. She had vaguely mentioned the glitchtale and Xtale aus in the tags just bc those came to mind first as big fandom things that misgendered the kids, and SPECIFICALLY she wrote she didn’t know as much abt xtale though and that it was just as I said from the top of her head. And wouldn’t you know! The creator of xtale saw the post and took it to fucking HEART. Like made this whole personal long ass rant in a rb over this simple “hey don’t be transphobic on my own personal blog” post. And then, and I’m not joking, EVERY SINGLE comment, tag, RB, you name it, was ALL harassing her or siding w Xtales creator, the only people defending her were her mutuals, and this was a small blog to boot— this wasn’t some big huge blog going after xtale specifically— it was a small blog making a post aimed at the follower circle just offhandedly mentioning it IN THE TAGS. so this explosion just took a massive toll on her and us. Thus any time I see that au or the creator i just get the most sour feeling like Man I Hate They’re Still So Popular Despite That Shit :(((( so the fact a similar situation happened (at least based on what you described in the vid) just made me remember that was all, just like a feeling of “wow we really haven’t changed at all in like two years have we. :/“

Hey! (This is pretty long if you don’t mind reading it.)

So I want to start by using my success story as an example: I had an appointment and I did SATS the night before. There wasn’t a thought In my mind I TRULY knew that I was not going to that appointment, and that morning I still felt that way, as I was getting ready to go. And basically when I got there they ended up being closed and I went home.

But the thing is now I’m starting to panick and worry especially because the new school year. I want so many things and I tell myself “ok tonight I’m gonna do the same thing I did that one night I successfully cancelled my appointment” but it’s just so frustrating because it’s like I’m not in the same mindset. It just feels like I’m forcing it, like I’m affirming from my body and not from self.

I’m just very lost because I find myself through the day identifying very heavily with my body and when I tell myself “this isnt you, you are self” and things of that nature I doubt it because I don’t FEEL it. It just feels like I’m talking to myself. And I saw the ‘do i want the desire or freedom’ post and it really meant something to me. Because my desire is to have all of these things for school and to have a happy family but freedom for me looks like no school and like living in a castle or something. But like even with freedom I still get to experience anything I imagine.

last night i felt weird. before, the body had anxiety problems and so last night my mind was like "do something, i dont like this!!" and i folded. i went onto yt to listen to my usual calming vid (eft tapping abt fear), but then i thought "no!! i don't wanna do this anymore, it was probably wind (as i burped earlier) i want to go towards love, not live in fear!" and so i went to a different eft tapping vid abt feeling love. and then i went bed lol

in that moment i remembered i am not the body, and i also asked myself what do i want to choose, love or fear?

you don't have to feel you are not the body, it's just the truth. if conviction/remembering isn't "working", another path is self inquiry.

mind = memories, thoughts, feelings. i cannot be a memory, wouldn't i be transported back to when when i remember one? i can see one through visualisation. its not now, so its generated again. i cannot be thoughts -> i can say 'stop walking' whilst walking. also how do you be a thought?? the mind is everything in the inner world so if i was born elsewhere, everything would be different in the mind. so its moulded by society, time, location etc. so even when the mind changes so many times, i'm still here. so i'm not it. i cannot be a feeling, i can feel it or recognise it. i am still here when i feel good or bad -> not the feelings. so who's the one recognising? i cannot be my name - its an identifier for the body.

the body tripped me up several times whilst questioning it:

the idea 'i am the body' leads to beauty standards, hatred, genetics, midlife crisis etc.

i saw that 'i am the body' is clearly not the greatest idea. but i couldn't answer why i wasn't it. until i remembered that the mind can affect the body:

the body has reactions (e.g. anxiety) to the mind & it's stories it wants to protect from. memories, feelings, thoughts all pop up and the body reacts to it. does that mean the body is a component of the mind? if it can affect it.

if you've read my "nondualism and manifestation" post then you'll see that idea there again. i also had my faith strengthened when 4dbarbie talked about astral projection in one of her posts. i totally forgot about ap! after days of confusion and slight frustration, i understood a little more and so i finally got to a point where i was like 'no more identifying as it!'

question everything. this doubting leads you to be able to ask whether there's something more than the body-mind, and allows you to accept more. and gives you the courage to just stop identifying as the body.

I really do think Corey does a lot of talking behind people’s backs. I remember Jake talking about (I believe this was on Trisha’s podcast) how he’s happier now that he doesn’t have certain people in his life who are two faced like that. And sure it’s vague enough that it could be about anyone but I always kind of got a vibe that he didn’t feel 100% comfortable in the trap house friend group (especially in some of the haunted videos they did when snc first started getting into it) Jake always looked like to me like he wasn’t completely comfortable in the group and I always wondered if Corey was partly to blame. Obviously this all just my assumption though 🤷‍♀️

this became extremely long for no reason, so my apologies

my opinion of corey has always been that he doesn't like working and would rather do the bare minimum and ride the coattails of other ppl than actually try and make a name for himself bc that's too much effort lol

and i think he feels that way bc he thinks he's too good to work for it. he should just magically be successful.

i mean, think of it this way: when the trap house first began all the way back in 2017, snc weren't even remotely as popular as they are now. if anything corey and elton were the more known ones. corey was relatively known bc of vine and elton was known bc he was besties with everyone in the vlog squad circle. snc were doing well for themselves, but they didn't even hit a mil subs until 2018. they were just starting to gain momentum in their careers.

corey benefitted from living with them and everyone else in that house bc they could all be in each other's vids and bounce ideas off of one another. collabing constantly got him well known amongst fans without him having to really try. then when they all moved into apartments, that's when snc's career started to really go up bc they were doing the haunted content with corey and jake. so corey was, again, becoming well known bc of snc. and mind you, dude wasn't posting that often. he's never been consistent in his content. which is so dumb bc the amount of money he would have been making if he was would have been crazy.

then when they all move back in together, again, he benefits. but a riff of some kind ended up happening in that friend group (i've always chalked it up to snc becoming landlords since this was their house and not just a place they were all renting and i think they may have laid down the law a bit too hard and that pissed off corey and jake) and so they all start to split ways. this is also when snc were losing everyone bc i think certain friends of theirs thought that snc were gonna start losing for the first time instead of gaining. snc were starting to switch their content over from haunted to 25x25. snc's old friends saw the writing on the walls, realized snc weren't gonna be collabing as much, and thus dumped them for knj's friend group.

corey claims that he wanted to move out and pursue dancing and music, since that's why he moved to la in the first place. he made like three songs and moved in with elton and immediately started doing tfil/overnight.

and around this time, snc weren't doing well. views were down, 25x25 was flopping hard. and this is when elton and corey weirdly start hating on snc bc they think they are copying them bc of tfil and 25x25 were semi similar. and then when snc start to shift back into haunted, i think corey got pissed bc here he was, leaving snc behind and shitting on them, but now they were stepping into their space once more and instantly doing significantly better than him and elton.

and as time has gone on, he's still this way. with all the shit happening between him and elton, i've basically been proven right: he doesn't like to work. he doesn't try, but expects fantastic results. it's hilarious.

what's funnier about all of this, if he wasn't such a shit talker, they could have all collabed and it would have worked out so well for him. but instead, he wanted to act like snc were lesser than (for whatever reason - most likely jealousy) and that sullied any collaboration that could have happened. and i wouldn't be surprised when elton has alluded to "ppl made me think snc were talking shit about me when they really weren't" he was referring to corey, but didn't want to outright say it. and if that's the case, that's also why snc don't fuck with him anymore either.

sure, they can all be cordial and whatnot, that's a given. but to be friends again? don't think so. i mean, corey couldn't even publicly wish colby well when he got cancer. fuck him. idc, that man can go the way of vine and have his career die off for all i care lol

as for jake, yeah… idk if he's referring to corey. but them not hanging out is kind of proof of that. but who knows. maybe something else happened that we don't know about.

I am not active on this app. I only open this when I feel strong emotions or I want to be alone. I also don't usually do this kind of stuff; writing. I don't know what pushes me to do one rn but I think because I saw this vid on tiktok and realizations hit me (btw credits to the owner)

Sometimes (lol most of the time), I just wanna stay in a place like this, sit, stare at the sky, and just think about life. What's really my purpose? What awaits me in the future? Am I going to be successful just like what I've always dreamed of? I constantly seek an answer for those questions but I couldn't find one.

Have u ever felt scared? If not, then I envy you (what a strong fella<3), I'm always scared. Well, I don't really understand myself. For instance, I'm afraid of the darkness but I also find peace in it. I'm scared to be alone but I feel good when I am. I'm scared of everything, especially about my future. I'm afraid of failure that's why I just stay on my comfort zone.

It's really hard. The feeling of wanting to be stronger but u don't know how or where to start. I always seek ways to improve myself so I won't repeat the same mistakes I did in the past (which I truly regret). I want to be better but I don't know if I can.

While writing this I realized that maybe I am not really scared of the darkness, maybe I'm just scared of the sadness that I could feel in the dark. I'm not scared to be alone but rather scared to be lonely.

Hi so I was a big fan from like 2013-2017 but kind of fell off leading up to yb (still was like vaguely in the loop through the album release but not hardcore) and I’ve been kind of getting back into 5sos lately so what did I miss?? Especially in terms of tumblr bc I see hardly any names I recognize anymore :((

Oh gosh "what did I miss" is far too expansive a question 😅😅 I'll start with the easy part: in my Tumblr experience, it's a pretty rare sight these days to come across someone from the time period you cited. A lot of people fell off before YB or during the unofficial hiatus that happened in 2020 because of the pandemic.

If you have any specific questions, I can answer in better detail but for now, I've compiled an abridged "here's what you missed" recap:

After the release of Youngblood, the band went on the Meet You There tour (highly recommend looking up fan vids on YouTube, that set was 👩🏻‍🍳💋) and released a live album of it at the end of that year. Youngblood the album went on to be streamed over 2 billion times and the song is still charting in Australia to this day.

2019 was controversial in the fandom for a lot of reasons: they featured on a Chainsmokers song called "Who Do You Love" and later toured with them on their World War Joy tour. Personally I always thought the song was a banger and the tour saw them deliver their strongest live show to date (absolutely please look up vids of that on YouTube omg 👁️👄👁️) but some fans were unhappy with their association/didn't like them trying to expand their audience. The band also released two singles off of their forthcoming album but a lot of fans were irked by the staggered and prolonged release strategy.

2020 opened with 2 more singles from the new album and they played the biggest show of their career to date, a featured slot during Fire Fight Australia, a benefit concert attended by 75,000 people and broadcast/streamed globally to millions. (Ashton trended on socials for legit a full day afterwards, it was absolutely a Defining Moment for them.) Unfortunately, promo and tour for their long-awaited 4th album, CALM, was halted for pandemic safety reasons and it released to muted fanfare in March 2020, just as lockdowns were being put into place. The album was still successful and has been streamed over a billion times (it was nearly #1 on Billboard but that's a longer story lol) but the release and truncated era was definitely a disappointment for band and fans alike.

The guys have spent the pandemic living in LA and being generally quiet on socials, finally able to enjoy being in one place and living a "normal" life for the first time since they were kids. Ashton emerged in the fall of 2020 announcing he'd recorded a solo album at home with his roommate and he independently released Superbloom (and its accompanying concert film) in October.

Late 2020/early 2021 the guys went on a few trips to the CA desert to work on a new album and it was heavily implied they intended to be much more hands on with the production of it. They spent the majority of last year working on this new album and no one really knows what to expect from it as they've worked with a potpourri of collaborators (everyone from John Feldmann to Ryan Tedder) and have mentioned several times that it'd been thru multiple incarnations. Over the summer, Luke surprise announced his own solo project (this time backed by a major label) and When Facing The Things We Turn Away From was released in August.

After a year and a half away, the band finally played their first show together in September, at the Global Citizen benefit in LA. December was the band's 10th anniversary and to celebrate, they released a song called "2011" alongside a feature-length variety special on YouTube. (Highly recommend even if you're not familiar with the new material, it's very nostalgic and career expansive, you'll absolutely get something from it if you were a fan at any point.)

And now we're here in February 2022, waiting for any 5SOS5 news - Ashton leaked part of a song the other day so it feels like it'll be any day now but it's felt that way for months tbh 😅.

Other stray developments of note: They finally parted ways with Modest Management (tho eventually ended up signing with their old manager from Modest but at his own firm. Idk 🤷🏻‍♀️). They've changed labels a couple times since you left and are now signed to BMG. Nearly 2 years after it was supposed to happen, tour finally starts in April (fingers crossed). Michael got married, Luke is engaged. Ashton bought a cabin in the woods. Calum shaved his head, insisted he wouldn't be growing his curls back and then hilariously had to let his hair grow during quarantine and now he has a mullet. Everyone, band and fans alike, are still generally kind of nuts. The more things change, the more they stay the same 😂

I'm the anon who got into NCT after Do addition. My memories have got blurry, but these are what I remember from Cherry Bomb and Boss eras.

I agree with you about time passing after Do addition and more exposition. Do got attacked a lot during Limitless, but things started looking up in Cherry Bomb era. The styling and song choice could be some of the biggest reasons (not just for Do, the whole group too). Nowadays, we see ppl praise Limitless as a superior title track and styling as artistic, but back then, not many ppl thought so. Cherry Bomb styling is more public-friendly and the song and choreo were explosive and more memorable. Do got a good amount of screentime in the MV and I saw many fans praised his bridge (with Taeil and Jae) and screamed about his purple hair making him cute and handsome. My irl friends bias other members, but they thought Do stood out too in the MV with his purple hair. There were plenty photos of purple haired Do taken by fansites.

Do got the Star Blossom station later in 2017. It's not a breakthrough song (compared with Jae's I Like Me Better), but his vocals got praised a lot. He prolly gained some new fans from the collab.

Then came NCT 2018 and Boss. The song became even more successful than Cherry Bomb and song popularity aside, the aesthetic and styling and Do's vocals were well-received again. His high note vid later blew up on twt and there were loads of small group vlives from the era for fans to get to know him (and other neos) better.

Ennana also started in 2017 and ran till 2019. Do guested often and later got Do! Digest. That's when fans got to know him better as a person and he gave plenty of comforting words there. Ennana gave cute Do selfies too. I suppose the gig has solidified Do's cute and caring image.

It's weird to say this as a JaeDo shipper, but I trust most JaeDo shippers more than Do and Jae stans who don't ship them lol Some Jae fans direct hate at Do, while some Do fans like to joke and compare Jae's and Do's ways of communicating with fans or even interaction with other neos. I'm one of the ppl who hold the unpopular opinion that tho Jae is absent a lot on sns and appears less affectionate than Do, he is caring and warm in his own way. Also very sincere. I heard a lot of times that Boss failed to be noticed by k-fans. Or were you talking about i-fans at this point? To this day Cherry Bomb is the most streamed song by 127 and one of the most viewed.

I totally agree with you about vlives. This app helped NCT gain popularity through both group and individual lives. Now YT channels do the work with special programmes and covers.

CB/Boss era Doyoung had a nice balance of elegant&cute appearance and a witty fiery character. We've seen a kind of a comeback to it during NCT2020 (MAW in particular) time. I hope it stays and Do forgets the filters.

Fans as a mass of people are something hard to like. We complain about toxic fandoms all the time, and idols get it much worse. The hate is directed at them, anti-movements can have consequences, each their move and word are observed and cancel culture happens every day. So sincerely idols can like only individual fans, the ones they meet face to face, the ones who write heartfelt letters or represent fan bars. Jaehyun congratulates with anniversaries loyal fans and shows night views to the fans who are able to appreciate them (who shares his romantic/poetic onlook on life, not those who care about superficial). He is honest this way, and he is reaching the right people. For everyone else, it's the effort he puts in keeping his body fat-free and his image of Ideal Jaehyun.

Jaehyun liked doing Grazia pictorial, which is easy to see in bts (6:00), and one of the reasons is that he was always fully clothed and portrayed atmosphere, something interesting to him, rather than the beach body.

Actually i don't get Reki at all. Like even in the first ep he was worse even than Shadow and i'm not talking abt Cherry, Joe and Adam. And he was ok and loved skating. But like... if your friend is better than you, then you get depressed and making your friend feel guilty abt you not being good enough? I didn't even ship Reki and Langa, they are just giving me only friendship vibes, but i'm still sad, wtf writers did with his character?

Like what should I even stand for in his character? I do not respect his life position at all. Like I dislike Makoto for being a shadow and not wanting anything in his life, but hey, at least he’s genuinely happy for Haru’s success. I adore Rin who never gave up and dove into the hardest challenge possible from the start to get on Haru’s level, cause he wanted to swim with him for the rest of his life and he got there. And then there’s this..  it’s like.. he loves to skate, but apparently not enough, cause his doesn’t want it, if he isn’t the best at it, so he’d rather... not skate at all? He wants to be as cool and on the same level with “naturally talented ones” and wants to compete with Langa, but he doesn’t want to do anything for it or search for his own unique style or smth to beat them in another way? It’s like... well, ok. Friendship, yeah, but ship? Nah, not for me. Also I do not smell any huge romance there tbh, and from Reki’s side this is all just a mess tbh.

The saddest part was that he saw that Langa won after his yelling and he didn’t care for that. Like Rin was mopping bc he wanted to swim with Haru, so when he saw that Haru wanted to swim with him, too, that was it for him. And that’s the problem all the viewers who watched Free! got hit with while watching this. Cause I think most expected for some reason that he would also put Langa first, but at the end, they’re not on the same track, bc their priorities are different.

You guys are all empty promises about nee videos on Sunday , but you barely even post” or some shit like this. And when i tell you my blood BOILED ! First of all , Snc never or at least nothing I remember made empty promises. They always tells us on which sunday the vid is gonna drop and it alzways does ( and when there are some complications , they tell us as well and inform us about unfortunate delay of a vid… but that happens… rarely) and second of all!!!!!!! ————-> SAM AND COLBY ARE NOT FUCKING MACHINES AND YOUR UNGRATEFUL ASSES ON TWITTER NEEDS TO CALM DOWN! They do basicallly everything on their O w N ! They film , they montage it and then upload it … It takes time ffs. Like when did they filmed the vid with Boys ? Two moths ago? And we will probably get it this Sunday ( almost Fcking May! ) . Sam and Colby put a good amount of work for their every video. The videos are so well done and so entertaining to watch that even non believers admitted to watch it for pure entertainment, because those videos are just genuinely good and interesting. But guess what? To create something great you need a lot of timeee and a lot of worrk. Snc are humans too and i am so pissed that some of their “fans” do not seem to get that and treat them almost like ma chines. “Omg boohoo poor me , it’s another sunday and no Snc video” . i agree with you. any fan that expected every sunday to get a vid from them just hasn’t listened to snc, who literally gives us a couple days notice of when they plan to post.

the issue with the videos taking so long, and thus only having one a month, will hopefully be solved soon since they hired on more editors. bc that was their main issue since colby has been the only one editing while sam gives notes to the other editor about the (basically) finished video.

i can understand why fans are upset for the very slow build up of videos this past year, but that frustration doesn’t mean you get to go balls to the wall crazy, saying whatever you want about snc in the hopes that things will changed.

not to mention they have been posting once a month for years now (maybe twice if they get lucky) minus hell weeks, so…. why is anyone acting surprised by this? not to mention they have a whole ass other channel where they post weekly/biweekly - the react one.
