This event will highlight Hip Hop as the ultimate pathway for solidarity by showcasing live performances from Black and Asian artists, a brief Afro-Asian solidarity workshop hosted by Hip Hop For Change’s very own, Unlearn The World @unlearntheworld and Stephanie Liem @texturecentric, and a live panel discussion asking Hip Hop artists how they see and use Hip Hop Culture as a bridge for multiculturalism and solidarity. While there is still a lot of work to be done in building Afro-Asian solidarity, we are on a much brighter path than we have ever been throughout history. It will take time to have these difficult conversations with each other and heal collectively as a community, but there is no reason that we should be tearing down each other's movements. We can talk about anti-Blackness and pro-police attitudes in the Asian community while still building Afro-Asian solidarity. We can learn about the struggles Asian Americans were forced to endure while still building Afro-Asian solidarity. People are dying on the streets, we don't have time to keep fueling race wars between minority groups. Let's unlearn and relearn about each other. Show up for each other. Stop gaslighting each other when we speak on our experiences with racism. Because at the end of the day, we're all getting screwed over by white supremacy. Again, the hate stops with all of us. White supremacy made us believe that Black and Asian people have always been at odds with each other, when in fact, history tells quite a different story. Hip Hop For Change and the Black community stands in solidarity with the Asian community in this time of tragedy. As an organization, we have received an overwhelming amount of support from the Asian community in response to the 2020 #BLM protests. We are beyond grateful for the support, and now it is our time to pay it forward. Let’s continue to build and show up for each other.
