Hc that after the events of episodes 97 and 98 chip and jay are more protective of gill. They try to be subtle because they know he won't like it if they are being obvious but they check in on him more, especially after fights. They hang around him more just to make sure he's alright. Gill does kinda notice but he doesn't mind

don’t you notice how the blue lessens but is still there. it doesn’t become the defining trait of their design but it’s still there.

for drey, it’s a whisper of who he once was. a reminder of a time he remembers fondly.

for jay, it’s a blazing sign of acceptance. that jacket was like a security blanket to her. her wings display her security and confidence while still paying homage.

literally grasping at crumbs but don’t you think about how the navy’s colors are red white and gold. blue is almost like the antithesis to that color palette and

im writing a scene in my fic and having THOUGHTS. chip and jay in the worst argument of their time together, using anything and everything they can find to hurt eachother and prove their points - insults, body language, past failures - and. and yet.

the point jay is trying to make in this scene directly references the black rose. as in, they are the only proof she has other than a passage from a textbook and a few other scrapped together things.

do you understand how easy it would be for Jay to weaponize this? to turn it against him like she does every other little thing she finds - another piece of ammunition - as they fucking destroy eachother? So easy. SO EASY. exhibit a)

he is expecting it. he is dreading it. exhibit b)

she doesn't. They were screaming five seconds ago, but she stops. She speaks softly and doesn't weaponize them any more than she needs to in order to prove her point. and when she does talk, it's gentle. it's not USING them to hurt him, it's using the facts to prove a point. Jay and Chip BOTH KNOW that even when they are tearing eachother open, there are some things you don't touch. They dig into every insecurity, every flaw, every insult they can think of, but not the Black Rose. never the black rose.
