Jokes aside, I’d argue Belos isn't openly homophobic because there's no point to it; There's no point in trying to 'redeem' witches and demons by changing their lifestyles if he's convinced himself they're all going to Hell anyway, so the only thing he needs to do is kill them. "Why bother teaching them anything if you can just wipe them out?"
Belos only changes aspects of witches' lives that are directly necessary to his plans; In this case, applying sigils by justifying the lack of them as 'wild magic', and then keeping magic divided with different covens so they can't easily rebel against the system that's applying sigils, thereby allowing it to keep doing that and marking as many targets as possible for the draining spell. It's really quite simple. That's why he'll refuse to replenish the Palistrom forests but then promote women like Hettie and Terra to coven heads; Because Hettie and Terra will be killed by the draining spell anyway, but Palismen won't be.
And let's be real... He's a Puritan white guy. He absolutely believes that queerness is inherently a threat to society not just on a spiritual level but a biological one, because it discourages people from making babies because they're more focused on partners of the same sex they can't reproduce with. He probably thought Boiling Isles queerness was contributing to an inevitable decline that he merely hastened and that's why he allowed it. And Belos can't be openly bigoted because people wouldn't listen to him that way.
He's also definitely racist. Belos making an 'exception' for Luz is totally meaningless because white racists make exceptions for brown and gay folk all the time, while still clinging to their beliefs. Luz just happened to be the only human around since centuries, and that's better than no humans because the lowliest one is still above the greatest demon. And he still tried to murder Luz when she didn't flatter his white savior complex, and didn't adhere to his idea of what a proper human should be.
Even if Belos didn't try to kill Luz... Genocide isn't just murdering people. It's also erasing a culture, such as when white people assimilated Native American children, forcing them to convert to Christianity and dress like white people and speak only English, under the claim that they were 'civilizing' them. So even if they were alive, it was still genocide and it was still racism in the form of the White Man's Burden.
He was a white boy raised in a colony, everyone would've taught him that the indigenous people were 'savages' and Philip not only devoted his life to exterminating an entire culture he deemed evil and demonic, but actively enjoyed it too. Why would he stop at brown humans, unlike Caleb who already unlearned one major prejudice of his. If he never learned of the Boiling Isles, he'd have gone after women in Gravesfield (which would've been misogynistic in practice regardless of Philip's intentions), and probably Native Americans too because his witch hunting games are no different than Cowboys VS Indians.
Like I dunno man these white racists do have fellow white people they care about, and are willing to make exceptions and humor brown women too. But they're still racist and will refuse to listen to those people when called out over their bigotry, and ultimately choose that. Any argument that Belos wouldn't be guilty of other human prejudices is purely wishful thinking, and fairly contradictory to his characterization and whole narrative.
And we can wax poetic about why Belos doesn't openly disparage Luz for being brown, queer, and/or a girl, but we know the real reason why; It's because Disney censors would throw a conniption over portrayals of bigotry, and the show was already shortened for 'not fitting the brand'. Look at how Texas banned critical race theory. They think discussing racism is inherently racist, kinda like Twitter users. But with the added difference that they know it's a callout of the people running corporations and the government and investors (AKA themselves) and they hate that.
This kinda gets me back to an earlier point I made; I think the fundamental disconnect fans have with the show over Belos is that Belos stans (not necessarily fans) recognize their character's backstory and motives are something gross that can't be romanticized, and that's why they work so hard to reframe the focus towards Philip's dynamic with his brother Caleb, emphasizing codependency, and religious suppression and guilt. Because they can romanticize that, but not the intentionally pathetic core of Belos' character (itself a satire of certain subgroups).
They're seething over the reminder that their sexy aesthetic will always be second-banana to a 4channer complex, and salty that the crew chose to discuss something topical instead of making a sexyman villain, because their complaints can be boiled down to tastes and preferences, not actual objective critique. That's also why they claim the finale 'retconned' Belos and stripped him of nuance, because all the show really did was just frame and acknowledge his desire to be right as cowardly and selfish, instead of flattering him with tortured abandonment angst over a brother he never cared enough for. As if we didn’t have the ghosts in the previous episode for that purpose.

NCIS LA Season 14 Countdown, Day 3
A/N: For “A Fait Accompli”, because I will never be over it.
***
Don’t Sell Yourself Short
“Deeks, seriously though, are you ok?” Kensi checked as they wandered out of the mission, Hetty’s terse instructions to celebrate on Saturday ringing in their ears.
“Well, I started out today, thinking I was excelling but trying to hide an injury so I didn’t get kicked out, then very shortly thereafter was summarily dismissed from FLETC, and now had our AWOL boss scare the crap out of me while virtually presenting my badge,” Deeks paused, pursing his lips. “It’s been a day.”
“I’m sorry, baby,” Kensi apologized. “I swear I didn’t know what Hetty had planned until I went to pick you up.”
Deeks chuckled, the sound humorless. It was such a Hetty thing to do, and he honestly didn’t know how to feel about it. Though he did mean what he said about her being savage.
“You know, the whole time I was packing, on the plane, I kept trying to figure out what I’d done wrong. Did somebody figure out I was hurt? Did I fail that last exam I thought I aced?” He scrubbed his hands through his hair, looking beyond Kensi as he tried to process it all. “Then I just couldn’t thinking about how I screwed up again. So many people pulled in favors to get me into FLETC, bypass the age requirements, and I blew it.”
Kensi put her hand on his arm, drawing him to a stop, and she turned to face him with a horrified expression.
“Oh my god, Deeks. Why didn’t you tell me? You could have called or texted.”
“For one, I was busy clearing out my room as fast as possible. For another, I knew you were busy and didn’t need my whining while you tried to focus,” Deeks explained with a shrug. He couldn’t quite look at her fully, still a little embarrassed and ashamed.
“Baby, that is not whining,” Kens told him firmly. When he didn’t respond, she grasped his cheeks between her palms, not as gently as he expected so he was forced to meet her gaze. “You need to tell me when you’re feeling like that.”
“I didn’t really feeling talking about it anyway,” he admitted. As much as Kensi was the person he trusted most, he’d been too consumed with his self-loathing thoughts. And, the certainty that she would be disappointed. “It seemed like I was just fulfilling what everyone already knew.”
Kensi gave his head a firm shake, smoothing her thumb across his cheek a few times to take the sting out of the gesture.
“Hey, do not talk like that. You are not a screwup.” He started to object and she pressed her index finger to his lips. “Yes, you faltered a little bit in the beginning, but that’s just because you were nervous from all the pressure. You figured it out in the end though, and proved what I already knew about you.” She paused a beat. “That you are a strong, intelligent, courageous man who can overcome anything the world throws at him.”
Smiling finally as she said the last part, she slid her up the sides of his face to loop around his neck. Deeks blinked a couple times, almost in tears for the second time in about minutes. It felt like emotional whiplash.
“Wow, Kensi…” he looked up for a second to stave off tears, but they escaped anyway. “You have no idea how much that means to me.”
“It’s the truth,” Kensi insisted, running her fingers through his hair. It was perfectly soothing after everything that happened today. “You are so, so strong. And I love you.”
“I love you, too,” he murmured. He kissed her, only holding back because they were in the middle of the parking lot. “I guess we better go home.”
“We don’t have to.”
“Well, you heard what Hetty said.”
Kensi shrugged her shoulders, a mischievous smile crossing her lips.
“Since when have we ever followed directions? And who cares what Hetty says? Let’s celebrate tonight,” she suggested. “I think we both earned it.”

WILDER GIRLS REVIEW.
“His skin peels off like strips of paper, gathering under my nails, soft and pulpy.” Wilder Girls by Rory Power is a story of three young women living in a rampant, disease-infected boarding school for girls as they try to survive. The Tox came during the spring, infecting everything it could touch: the nature, the animals, the teachers at the prestigious boarding school for girls—Raxter, and the girls themselves. It takes your eyes and makes your muscles bulge out of your skin; it eats away at your flesh and leaves you rotting and moving; it gives you second spines, second hearts, makes you throw up bone. The Tox destroys you, and it’s already inside. The story follows an entire boarding school of girls as they die one by one, either through choice or the Tox takes them through animal or through self, but specifically three girls. Hetty Chapin, Byatt Winsor, and Reese Harker living through the world of the Tox. Their lives are entangled by choice, but striking jealousy still makes it way through—each of them has a piece of the other inside, and it’s impossible to untangle each knot they hold one another with. I was told, either by Google or by word of mouth looking up things about this book, that it was some kind of Lord of the Flies retelling. As I’ve never read Lord of the Flies, and only seen its message through various other parodies, I thought it was an excellent retelling. And also just an excellent, ghoulishly graphic, and heart-wrenching story regardless.
TL;DR if you don’t want to read the spoilers below: It’s highly graphic (intense body horror and fighting), some tws for suicide, and super gay. It’s first-person through the main character Hetty Chapin, who’s easily jealous and oblivious and guilt-ridden. I cannot recommend it enough.
Spoilers below.
“He kisses like he’s afraid of me. And he is, but I don’t think I mind it.” I cannot tell you how graphic Wilder Girls is. The gore is most of the horror in the book, but it never gets repetitive. The first second you think, “this is okay, this is is the worst body horror can get,” something awful appears in the woods outside of Raxter’s gates or some off-handed blister-puss that a girl is throwing up while she convulses down the stairs is mentioned. There’s no time to get used to the horror, and that’s the point. Rory Powers’ horror not being something you get used to is exactly what she’s going for. I loved the horror. I thought I’d like the horror since I’ve always loved the concept of familiar bodies turning alien from the inside and then the outside until they’re completely unrecognizable, and Wilder Girls does just that. There’s so much death, intentional either by losing fights with more desperate girls, or through the nature of the Tox, that each death is another knife in the reader’s ribcage. It matters, and it leaves a hole in Hetty’s heart, but you keep reading. I had a hard time putting it down. Also this book is hella gay. I thought it was one pair of girls, but it was the other in the end. It didn’t make the pain any easier—at no point was being in love helpful to the girls’ survival. The knots they had entangled themselves with by relying on anyone else was swiftly ripped apart and torn from the girls’ chest. It was satisfying. It was gruesome. “What I meant, what I wanted. They don’t matter anymore. We’re here, and that’s the rest of our lives.” It isn’t very long—it’s 350 pages about and the text is fairly big and her writing is incredibly fast-paced. I went through it in two days, reading about 160 the first day and the rest the next. I don’t know if this story was good because of what it was inspired by—again, Lord of the Flies, I’ve heard—or because it was human. Each step Hetty, the main perspective we see the book from, is guilt-ridden. She is selfish and savagely jealous and incredibly knotted, not knowing whether to be angry at the lies that’s surrounded her or satisfied that she’s made it this far at all. I really thought I wouldn’t like Hetty. As I said above, she was jealous and selfish and rude, she acted with her feelings, not her thoughts. Her instincts controlled her at times. But I also think that’s what makes her a good protagonist—she’s flawed by nature, and never truly overcomes her flaws. It’s satisfying to see her overcome her challenges, but it’s also cathartic to see people get angry at her for the awful things she says. I was equal parts thrilled and despaired at every turn of Wilder Girls. Highly recommend. “I’ll never let go of Raxter, no matter how far away I get. It’ll never let go of me.”

NCIS: LOS ANGELES – “A Fait Accompli” Act Five
Kensi and Sabatino are just behind Fang as Fang pulls into a parking structure.  Lewis’s Lexus is on the roof of the structure.  Kensi comes up and yells “federal agents”.  I think we all know where this is going.  Kensi shoots Latu’s nephew, who Fang used as a human shield.  Sabatino gets Lewis as Fang gets a big weapon and makes mincemeat out of an unnamed SUV.
Ducking behind another SUV, Sabatino shots Fang in the feet.  Everyone is safe.
Lewis set up Okoye.  Still don’t know why Okoye was at the warehouse but hey, Lewis set up Okoye.  All the stolen technology is found so all is well.
Kensi and Sabatino finish the case singing “Come On, Feel the Noise”  I think you all know what will be the header for the Rewatch.
The Admiral is in the upstairs office.  He sees Hetty’s fingerprints on everything.  He also hopes that Callen’s personal matter went well.
Callen is up in the woods where he thinks Anna is with the ring.  He remembers breaking up with his college girlfriend.  She’s crying, he’s sorry as he walks away.  Callen is taken in a limo by Hetty.  He’ll never learn who his father is or what his real name will be if he stays.  They drive off – Callen and CGI Hetty.
Deeks arrives at the office with an order from Hetty to go to Hetty’s office.  Hetty surprised Deeks, who wants to change his underwear.  Hetty tells Deeks to open to top drawer.  He does – slowly.  There is an NCIS badge and ID.  Deeks, stunner, is NCIS.  Kensi knew for the last hour.
“Henrietta Lange, this is the most savage, inhumane, messed up, greatest thing that anyone has ever pulled on me.”  He calls the badge pure gold.  Strangers at FLETC were never giving Deeks his badge.  The team is having a party on Saturday – when Callen returns.  Deeks wants to party now – his badge is 12-years in the making.  Kensi tells Deeks she’s proud of him.  And the two of them can celebrate.  The broken ribs come between them.
Callen arrives at a hotel in the middle of the wildfires.  The hotel is empty.  Rebuild USA isn’t rebuilding the area – Anna isn’t around.  Callen is stunned.
Kam calls Sam. She is coming to LA in the following weekend.  She’s walking through a parking lot.  As she gets to her car, a man comes up from behind and kidnaps her.
Since there won’t be a new episode for another month, a generic bumper and a promo for FBI: Most Wanted.  See you on Valentine’s Day show.

Wilder Girls by Rory Power
Everyone loses something to the Tox; Hetty lost her eye, Reese's hand has changed, and Byatt just disappeared completely. It’s been eighteen months since the Raxter School for Girls was put in quarantine. The Tox turned the students strange and savage, the teachers died off one by one. Cut off from the mainland, the girls don’t dare wander past the school’s fence where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure as the Tox takes; their bodies becoming sick and foreign, things bursting out of them, bits missing. But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her best friend, even if it means breaking quarantine and braving the horrors that lie in the wilderness past the fence. As she digs deeper, she learns disturbing truths about her school and what else is living on Raxter Island. And that the cure might not be a cure at all...

Well said! The more I think about it, the more it bothers me that Hetty messed with Deeks when he was already concerned about making it through FLETC. I think him using savage, among other terms, to describe Hetty’s little “suprise” kind of reflects his annoyance.
And again, if it feels like this is showing my biased opinion of Deeks, would this have happened to any other character (besides Eric perhaps) if they were in a similar situation? Probably not.
Reblog or like this post if you enjoyed A Fait Accompli.
I’ve had enough of the negativity. For all we know, Hetty wanted to be at Deeks’s graduation, but knew she’d never be able to get away from wherever she is, so that’s why she had it be at her office. (plus, she WAS correct in her ‘known Deeks longer then any of those instructors’ quote.) And also, She was the one responsible for getting Deeks into FLETC, so, wouldn’t it be a bit disrespectful if she wasn’t able to be there?!
Sheesh. And some think my constant complaining about the lack of any Hetty material is annoying. What I’ve seen in the past 24 hours is 10 times more annoying!! (both here AND Twitter!)

Joining the previously announced David Tennant who plays the title role, Adrian Scarborough as Stan and Gawn Grainger as Louis are Theo Barklem-Biggs (Pete), Mark Ebulué (Aloysius), Mark Extance (ensemble), David Jonsson (Col), Dominique Moore (Lottie), Emma Naomi (ensemble), Alice Orr-Ewing (Mattie and Ruby), Himesh Patel (Vagabond), Adrian Richards (ensemble), William Spray (ensemble), Danielle Vitalis (Elvira) and Eleanor Wyld (Dalia) who complete the cast for Patrick Marber’s Don Juan in Soho.
“Please don’t be charmed, he’s not a lovable rogue…” Loosely based on Molière’s tragicomedy ‘Don Juan’, this savagely funny and filthy modern update transports the action to contemporary London and follows the final adventures of its debauched protagonist – a cruel seducer who lives only for pleasure.
Rehearsals begin next week for the production which previews at Wyndham’s Theatre from 17 March 2017, with press night on 28 March 2017. Don Juan in Soho will complete its strictly limited eleven week run on 10 June 2017.
Direction is by Patrick Marber with set and costume designs by Anna Fleischle, lighting by Mark Henderson, compositions and sound by Adam Cork, video design by Dick Straker, movement by Polly Bennett and casting by Robert Sterne CDG.
