Get rid of Stomach gas – A big hindrance in your daily routine life
Stomach gas can also be referred to as abdominal gas, boating or trapped gas. Gas is a normal part of digestion and a normal person passes gas about 13 to 21 times a gas. Situation becomes problematic if a person is unable to pass gas. In this scenario, the trapped gas can cause sharp pain in the chest or abdominal region. This article discusses some causes of gas and how to get rid of it.
Trapped gas is cause by the following reasons:
1. Overeating: eating excess of food when no longer hungry
2. Swallowing air while eating or drinking: When we eat very fast and do not chew properly, we can swallow a lot of air. Similarly, while using straws for drinking, air can be swallowed.
3. Chewing gun can also cause you to swallow extra air.
4. Eating certain foods like beans, cabbages or broccoli can also cause gas.
What are the symptoms of gas?
The pain related to trapped gas can come on suddenly in the chest or stomach region. The stomach region can also get bloated.
It is important to recognize the symptoms correctly. The stomach can bloat in case of having periods as well. Stomach ache can indicate infection too. It is important to measure the symptoms before going to a remedy.
How to get rid of gas?
1. Physical activity: Some amount of slow physical activity like walking and certain yoga positions can help expel the trapped air.
2. Taking care of the diet: As mention above, some food naturally cause more gas. These foods should be avoided. Rather fibrous foods that help in digestion should be included in the diet. For example spinach, watermelon, banana, ginger, cucumber and so on.
3. Drinking tea: Specific herbal teas can also help release the trapped gas. For example ginger and peppermint tea are good relief from trapped gas.
4. Home remedies: Our traditional stock of home remedies are also very good for expelling gas. For example
a. Chewing fennel seeds or saunf is a very good remedy.
b. Having cumin seeds or jeera infused with water can encourage better digestion.
c. Having carom seeds or ajwain can give body thymol which secretes gastric juices them help in easier digestion.
5. Taking supplements for food intolerances
One of the most common food intolerance is lactose intolerance. Lactose is the sugar present in milk and its products. A person with lactose intolerance will have difficulty in digest milk and milk products. They can use lactose supplements.
3Meds.com is the best medicine app in India as it can provide supplements and other medicines and essentials at your door.
When do you need to see a doctor?
As mentioned earlier, producing gas is a normal part of digestion. In general scenarios, slight moment, walking, or having a supplement can help in expelling the gas. However, if the gas is accompanied by other problems such as:
1. Sudden fluctuation in gas symptoms.
2. If trapped gas causes distress.
3. Constipation or diarrhoea.
Then a doctor should consulted and a proper diagnosis should be done.
Conclusion
Trapped gas is typically not a dangerous medical condition. A few lifestyle and dietary changes can go a long way in improving the digestive health of a person and prevent trapped gas. If the symptoms of trapped gas persist even after dietary and lifestyle changes, along with other medical problem like diarrhoea or constipation, then a doctor should be consulted for proper diagnosis.

Bengaluru: From ajwain saunf chai and haldi doodh to chyawanprash ice-cream and buttermilk ragi tacos, cafes and restaurants are adding immunity boosting options on their menu as they swing back their welcome boards next week. Over half a dozen eateries, including Chai Point, Coffee Day Enterprises, Chaayos, Tata Starbucks and Massive Restaurants have appended their menu, expecting consumers could opt for immunity boosting food post the coronavirus lockdown. “Sharply rising work-fromhome scenarios and change in eating habits prompted us to venture into healthy mini-meals for our all-day breakfast menu,” said Amuleek Singh Bijral, cofounder of organised tea retailer Chai Point. 76206279He said some new items such as ajwain saunf chai, lemongrass chai and Kashmir kahwah could help ward off seasonal ailments. While addition of haldi or turmeric is a standout ingredient across most quick-service restaurants, gooseberries, wheatgrass, cinnamon, honey and kokum are fast catching up. “Honey-turmeric latte, soybased vegan cold brew, and smoothies made with vitamin c-rich raspberry, kiwi and blueberry have been launched to cater to diverse preferences," said Deepa Krishnan, head of marketing, digital, loyalty, at Tata Starbucks. Café Coffee Day, the country’s largest coffee chain, has introduced turmeric latte as “awareness of Indian ingredients and spices to boost body’s immunity” has increased, CCD CEO Vinay A Bhopatkar said. Chaayos cofounder Raghav Verma said it has launched haldi doodh and haldi chai, reiterating that most of their beverages use ingredients mentioned by the Ayush ministry in self-care guidelines for Covid-19. During the lockdown, ice-cream was one of the worst hit category despite it being the peak summer season, partly because out-of-home consumption accounts for a large chunk of ice-cream sales. Dairy firms are trying to compensate with newer immunity-boosting variants, mostly season agnostic, that would also help assuage fears. “Almost all top ice-cream makers such as Naturals, Vadilal, Pabrai, Cream Bell and Dairy Day are working with scientists to develop immunity-boosting flavours to suit the times,” said Pradeep G Rai, managing committee member of Indian Ice-Cream Manufacturers Association and MD of Hangyo Ice Creams. Hangyo is also launching curcumin-saffron milk and tulsi milk under its dairy wing. Physical distancing norms in the kitchen will also result in smaller yet focussed menus, restaurant managers said. And local ingredients will take precedence. from Economic Times https://ift.tt/2Mzi9TS

10 Foods to Avoid Which May Cause Acidity
The stomach produces hydrochloric acid to aid the digestion of food and kill harmful pathogens. Unusually excessive secretion of this acid results in a condition of acidity. It is manifested in intense heartburn felt below the chest, caused by the acid moving back up into the esophagus. The leading cause of acidity is unhealthy food habits, and this is especially the case in India where oily and spicy food is consumed often. Here are 10 foods to avoid if you want to escape that uncomfortable burning sensation:
1. Fried Food
Fried food tops the list of foods to be avoided to prevent acidity because of its high-fat content. It also sits in the stomach for longer, causing a feeling of fullness. A ‘full’ stomach disrupts the digestive system by producing more acid than normal. What’s more, it puts pressure on the Lower Esophageal Sphincter or LES, the ring of muscle that prevents the acid in the stomach from moving upwards. This causes a distasteful onslaught of the juices from your meal in your throat. That sure hurts!
2. Citrus Fruits
Citrus Fruits are loaded with essential vitamins and nutrients such as Vitamin C and lycopene. However, citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, and even tomatoes are some of the top triggers for heartburn. These are of a highly acidic nature, making them especially harmful on an empty stomach. Hence, a glass of orange juice for breakfast might be great to keep your weight in check but not your acidity.
3. Chocolate
Consuming chocolate leads to a surge in serotonin levels in the body. This relaxes the intestinal cells and also the LES, leading to an easy flow of the stomach acid into the esophagus. The cocoa powder in chocolate is also acidic and may cause symptoms of acidity to become even starker. The latter might also be the result of caffeine and theobromine present in chocolate.
4. Caffeine
Coffee, iced tea or any other beverage that contains caffeine ought to be avoided to prevent an acidity attack. If you are prone to acidity but coffee is your all-time lifesaver, it is advisable to at least cut down on portion sizes. Three to four cups of coffee at regular intervals in a day is alright, but sipping on a latte at your work desk all through the day is a sure-shot trigger for acidity.
5. Peppermint
Peppermints are great to impress a date with fresh breath but bad for an acidic bout in the throat. Studies have proven peppermint to be very effective for indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, and pain in the lower gut. But when it comes to heartburn, the menthol present in peppermint may actually further relax the LES and make your acidity even more unpleasant. Mint-flavored products irritate the throat and worsen the bitter taste caused by acidity.
6. Meat
Consumption of high-fat meats such as beef, lamb, and pork has been identified as another top cause of acidity. It stimulates the release of the cholecystokinin hormone in the body, which triggers heartburn. There are two reasons why this is so. First, the secretion of this hormone relaxes the LES. Second, it keeps the food in the stomach for longer to be digested better, but this, in turn, increases the likelihood of heartburn.
7. Milk and Dairy Products
Drinking milk may aggravate the symptoms of acidity for some, even though it has been traditionally recommended to relieve heartburn. It increases the production of acid in the stomach, the reason for which has been identified by many studies as the fat present in milk. The high-fat content of some milk-based products such as cheese also triggers acidity in some people.
8. Onions
Like all other foods on this list, onions relax the LES, making them one of the foods to be avoided to prevent acidity. In addition, onions contain high doses of fermentable fiber. This fiber is one of the FODMAPs, which is a group of compounds that cause digestive issues such as belching. Belching further intensifies the bitter taste in the throat caused by acidity.
9. Alcohol
The research on the effects of alcohol on acidity has yielded mixed results. For instance, it has been found that drinking wine reduces irritation of the esophageal lining but induces the production of acid in the stomach. Drinking beer has also been found to significantly increase the possibility of acid reflux. The bottom line is thus, to limit alcohol intake to one or two drinks long before bedtime to prevent acidity.
10. Carbonated Drinks
Carbonated drinks such as sodas and soft drinks are common perpetrators of acidity. These relax the LES and increase the secretion of acid in the stomach, both of which are the major reasons for heartburn. They also cause gastric distension, which is an immense bloating of the stomach that puts further pressure on the LES. Maintaining a check on one's diet and making the right choices keep acidity at bay in the long run. However, in times of emergency when you can only afford a quick fix, all you need is Gas-O-Fast dissolved in a glass of water. It comes with the goodness of nature in the form of jeera, ajwain, pudina, and saunf - all of which are known to be effective remedies for acidity.
