Quote
Perkūnas, the god of thunder, is one of the four highest gods of the Lithuanian pantheon of the thirteenth century, along with Adnojas (the god of water), Kalevelis (a god-smith, the guardian of dead souls) and Medeina-Žvėrūna (the goddess of hunting and warriors). At the centre of the Prussian pantheon of gods, there is also Perkūnas, related to power, maturity and fulfillment, and different from Patrimpas, a young god of vegetation, and from Patulas, the god of the dead. Considerable offerings were still being made to Perkūnas as late as the seventeenth century. In Latvian mythological songs, Pērkons is one of the most important mythical personages along with the syncretic personage Dievs, his sons Dieva dēli, and the female deities Saulite (little Sun), Saules meita (the daughter of Saule) and Laima.

Here Comes The Sun
Analog photography 2022
Made within RUCKA Artist Residency in Cesis, Latvia, with support of the Artist at Risk grant program.
In the Baltic mythology, the Sun deity becomes of central importance, and finds its manifestation in female form.
Saule, a sun goddess in Latvia, for a long time before Christianisation of the region was considered as a mother, which we can hear in the song “Saule, Pērkons, Daugava” (based on the text from the poem Daugava by the Latvian poet Rainis, while the musical part is composed by Mārtiņš Brauns): “Sun was our mother,  Daugava the nanny of our pain, Pērkons was the devil’s striker, That was our father”. Saule is the giver of light and warmth and the controller of human time, and she determines the well-being and regeneration of all life on earth. Thus, representing regeneration as an idea within herself, she could be represented as both, mother and daughter.
The artwork “Here Comes the Sun” depicts the archetypal goddess, which solemnly holds the planet Earth in her hands. This is Saule / Sun-Woman, who is raising the world as a child, up to the sun, which is a sign of giving it life and fortune. Moreover, with it she is a young goddess - Saules meita / Sun Daughter who just appeared on the canvas of a mythological narrative, and received the world to take care of it, so she greets it in the sun rays.
In the way, how the Christian church (in general and in particular since the exhibition happened at the space of St. Anna Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cesis) requires renovation, and humanistic ideas require regeneration, in the same way the world cries to be healed, and our planet - to be cherished and taken care of.

@Par Latviju
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_ZVCuQcr5E
A singer of Latvia, Andris Kivics sang it.
He was a basketball player before, and was a world champion of streetball.
This song tells about the history of Latvia, which was conquered by many countries.
Especially it was dominated by Russia many times and was independent in 1991.
Its population is only about 2000000, so there are many multilinguals, especially there are many who speaks Russian.
Then Latvia is thought to be an entrance to EU from Russia, ironically.
I once played “Old fashioned comedy”
Septiņsimt gadus vācieši nāca.
Krievi, zviedri, lai nospiestu mūs.
Uz ceļiem, bet latvieši nesalūzt.
Nesalūzt jo mīl šo zemi.
Cer mājās atgriezties.
Satikt savus mīļos Rīgas lidostā nosēsties.
(2x):
Uzliec roku man uz pleca.
Tagad par tiem grūtajiem laikiem.
Man ir sagatavots viens stāsts par to.
Lūdzu ieklausieties, ieklausieties nepārtraucot:
Tūkstošs deviņsimti četrdesmit sestā gadā skaistā rītā pavasarī...
...atnāca ādas mēteļos vīri.
Pie mana vectēva teica - jānāk līdz!
Gandrīz veselu gadu viņš stūra mājā mocījās.
Viņš teica - Latvija būs brīva!
Un ne no kā viņš nebaidījās iznāca ārā, bija piedzimusi meita.
Nebija no kā izdzīvot...
Viņš teica:
Es to visu nevarētu...
...Savu Latviju nemīlot...

For @mythologicalnet‘s creation event  → Latvian Mythology
↳  Auseklis (derived from root aus-, meaning "dawn") was a Latvian god, and the personification of the celestial body Venus.  Auseklis is closely associated with Mēness (“moon”). They both are Dieva dēli (“sons of God”), and are thus confused with each other and with other male deities. Auseklis is the groom of Saules meita (“daughter of the sun”).

saules meita
Es esmu saules meita. Man vislabāk patīk siltumā, kad saule staros lēni slīd pār manu ādu. Man viņas skāriens tuvs un pazīstams. Man patīk basām kājām zālē brist. Brist ūdenī. Ezera vidū iepeldēt un pagulēt tur kur vissiltāk. Tur kur stari sasildījuši ir virsējo kārtu. IR mana kārta just. Tik tā vien. Es esmu saules meita.

Saules Meita  the Latvian Goddess of the sun’s renewal, daughter of the sun Goddess Saule. Dressed in fine silk clothes, Saules Meita wears a golden ring and a garland of leaves. At the winter solstice, it is said that Saule is tired out from her year’s worth of travels across the sky every day, and she steps down from her position in favor of her daughter. Saules Meita takes up her mother’s place in the sky and the sun is reborn. Saules Meita’s name means “daughter of the sun” and the Lithuanian version is Saules Dukryte.
