No pictures for this one but I just finished shippuden ep 478
Finally saw it all for myself. Everything. The ways that Naruto finally got through to him. The moment where Sasuke finally Realized. Accepted it. There's got to be a gif of it somewhere. God it was such a well animated expression. Really drives it home for sure.
And their talk afterwards... lying bloodied together... Sasuke mentioning it'd be better if he was dead, and Naruto immediately refuting him by saying he should live and help him instead... Sasuke continuously offering more arguments, but Naruto shooting down each one so matter-of-fact... and when Sasuke runs out of arguments... and he starts to cry... and then it zooms out to reveal that they were lying on the crumbled statue pieces, which fell to create the union sign beneath them...
It's so......... God, I can't even put it into words. It's everything to me, though. It really is.
#speculation nation#fanny watches naruto#and when sasuke laughs. after hes had his realization. his Acceptance. and naruto's eyes just Widen...#sasuke admitting defeat. and admitting to acknowledging him. the thing naruto wanted all this time.#god & earlier in the episode where sasuke admitted he was Jealous of him. all this time.#emotionally constipated boys for Sure... i am so emotional 😭😭😭#one more episode left of the main story. and idk if i want to watch it rn hfkshfjd#im. so tired. but also i want to know what happens to them... oughhhh#maybe i'll just Start it... and see whether it grips me enough to watch the full thing...

Hello! Your analyses are absolutely brilliant! They’ve completely changed my perspective on many things. I’m still trying to figure everything out tho, so here’s a question:
If Sakura considers Naruto her rival, does it mean she is aware that Sasuke’s feelings for Naruto aren’t platonic or is she just insecure about their bond in general, knowing it’s stronger and will surpass anything she tries to build with Sasuke? Does she want Sasuke all to herself to the level he’s not even allowed to have close friends?
Thanks for everything you do. You’re amazing 💫
Hello!
Sakura is definitely aware of Sasuke's feelings towards Naruto and everytime Sasuke does or says something that either shows him giving special attention to Naruto or distance between himself and Sakura or both of those things, Sakura reacts accordingly.
I believe that as the series progresses Sakura realizes bit by bit that Sasuke and Naruto's bond is much more profound that she had initially imagined and she's jelaous and insecure of that.
The first instance of Sakura being upset of that special attention Sasuke gives Naruto is as early as in chapter 3
Sakura thought she had been talking to Sasuke but it was actually Naruto disguised as Sasuke who then had to run to the bathroom because he got diarrhea. When the real Sasuke appeared he asked for Naruto and as you can see Sakura gets frustrated and complains about Naruto "always" coming between them, what she's referring to is Naruto being part of their team plus this occasion of Sasuke asking for Naruto's location AND that Naruto stole Sasuke's first kiss (and canonically the only kiss Sasuke has ever received). So right of the bat, it's established that Sakura thinks of Naruto as a rival and fears what Sasuke might feel for him.
Another example of Sakura knowing how much Naruto means to Sasuke is when Shikamaru's team assembled to retreive Sasuke after he left Konoha to go to Orochimaru. Shikamaru states that he knows what happened and that she couldn't persuade Sasuke not to leave, then Sakura starts to cry and begs Naruto to bring back Konoha admitting she couldn't stop him and that the only person who can do it is Naruto.
So far Sakura is jealous of Naruto because he stole Sasuke's first kiss and also aware that their bond is much deeper because Naruto would be capable of moving Sasuke's heart unlike her.
However...
In part 2 when Sakura and Naruto finally reunite with Sasuke, not only Sasuke ignores Sakura but he starts teasing to the point of almost flirting with Naruto. He's also being very physical with him, whispering in his ear and almost hugging him while his chest is completely uncovered (a design Kishimoto described as kakkoii). Look at Sakura's face in those three panels, I think it speaks for itself.
For me, this is the moment Sakura realizes Sasuke is into Naruto. It's a very seductive moment from Sasuke's part and we don't ever see him act like this except for this time and Sakura obviously didn't like it.
Then we get to the final chapters once Kaguya is defeated but Sasuke still wants to fight Naruto.
Sakura looks at Sasuke then she looks at Naruto and that's when she starts crying and gets this sort of resolve to the point she grits her teeth.
Sakura desperately starts shouting to Sasuke that even though she knows she can't do nothing for him she still loves him deeply. Pay attention carefully to Sakura's words in the next panels "I can't get close to you, exchange blows with you, I can only whine, beg and cry like this again. It's totally pitiful, isn't it?
First thing to notice is that we're immediately shown in the next panel Naruto's face because everything Sakura acknowledges she can't do for Sasuke, Naruto can so we get Naruto's reaction. Secondly, being capable of exchanging blows is very important for Sasuke. During the kage summit arc where Naruto and Sasuke reunite for a second time Naruto says out loud (so Sakura and Kakashi also heard) that when they were fighting during Vote1 Sasuke told him two shinobi can read each others thoughts by trading blows without needing to say a word. In other translations Naruto says "feel each others hearts". Then Naruto asks Sasuke if he can read his mind/feel his heart? Sakura heard all this.
Sakura is acknowledging in her desperate last attempt to get Sasuke's attention that she can't read his thoughts/reach his heart the way Naruto does and for that she considers herself pitiful. She knows how much Naruto affects Sasuke's heart.
During their final battle Sasuke finally answers Naruto's question. He knows Naruto's heart and Naruto knows his.
This is in the manga. In The Last, Sakura is the number one cheerleader of Hinata getting together with Naruto, since they're not friends Hinata asks Sakura why she's doing all that. Sakura then thinks of Sasuke who is conveniently not in the village and responds "we girls need to stick with each other" and smiling to Hinata. She was working hard to get Naruto out of the way so she could have Sasuke. That's the reason why she went chasing after him *after* Naruto got married.
So yeah, Sakura is very much aware of Sasuke's feelings for Naruto.
As for if Sasuke "isn't allowed to have close friends" Sakura isn't important enough for him to be able to tell him what he can or can't do.
I mean not even Naruto can tell Sasuke what he can or can't do, but these two men will still enjoy their secret meetings [LINK]

Hello.
So is it just me or Naruto suddenly becomes smart and analytical when it comes to helping or rescuing Sasuke? It happened in the forest of death when Sasuke is about to give away the scroll to Orochimaru and Naruto berates him saying Orochimaru is still going to attack no matter the scroll. Or when Sasuke is about to leave Konoha to join Orochimaru and Naruto says that it won't be a free deal. Orochimaru will have his body and his life in exchange of power. Maybe I am biased, but it just feels that Naruto, who is not known for being analytical or strategic, suddenly becomes smarter when it comes to Sasuke. Maybe there are other examples.
What do you think?
Thanks for the ask anon☺️
Naruto suddenly becomes smart and analytical when it comes to helping or rescuing Sasuke
Smartness/analytical sense usually goes with Naruto by how he comes up with a quirky plan in a very difficult situations with just a simpler jutsu.
Example, Naruto and Sasuke worked together as a team to bring down Zabuza. Naruto defeated Neji in chunin exams. Naruto defeated Pain by using Transformation jutsu, smoke bombs, rasen shuriken as a three step attack. Naruto saved entire shinobi alliance by teleporting everyone with the help of Minato.
The situations you mentioned are highly indicative of how Naruto is emotionally perceptive and protective, especially towards Sasuke.
Let's go back to Episode 1.
He was just a 12 year old boy who could able to understand the words uttered by Mizuki in episode 1, "It's not that Iruka is afraid of the scroll, it's just that he is afraid that YOU have that scroll".
I didn't understand what that means in the beginning. After rewatching the episode and only then I understood it's true meaning. Naruto after knowing kyuubi is sealed inside him, thinks that Iruka is only concerned about the sealing scroll because Naruto may use it to release the seal rather than protecting the scroll from Mizuki altogether. Meaning, Naruto thinks Iruka doesn't trust him entirely. See how Naruto is perceptive towards people's emotions.
However, What happened later is the iconic scene which changed our Titular character's fate and he went onto apply the same concept he learnt to every villain he ever met. That is Acceptance and Forgiveness.
And Naruto is a person who learns from his mistakes and corrects next time.
Coincidentally, the two scenarios you mentioned is somewhat similar to what Mizuki asked Naruto to do. Mizuki told Naruto to steal the scroll and perform the jutsu inside it to pass the Academy Graduation. Naruto believed him not knowing his ulterior motives.
Now, Orochimaru is also doing the same thing. He is asking Sasuke to do something. Give the Scroll/Come to me, I will give you power. Naruto already knew Orochimaru is a bad guy as he sent one of his snake to swallow Naruto, don't you think he can see through the lies after experiencing the same with Mizuki??
The mere thought that a garbage like Orochimaru is using Sasuke before his eyes is something intolerable for Naruto.
Naruto is not being smart here. He is heavily invested on Sasuke in terms of his Emotions and becomes extremely protective. Meaning, the mere thought of him being in danger always heightens his emotions to the edge. Because everytime Sasuke acknowledges Naruto in his own stubborn way, Naruto's emotions changes too.... just like his emotions heightened when Iruka acknowledged him in Episode 1.
Proof??
Sasuke died protecting Naruto. Saying 'My body moved on its own'. Haku tells him 'He died protecting his precious person'. What happened next?
Naruto released the Kyuubi chakra for the first time due to his extreme rage despite collecting mass hatred from his villagers for about 8 or 9 years.
Sasuke tells Naruto "I want to fight you too". He gets extremely happy and wins the fight against Kiba.
Sasuke again tells Naruto "I don't want to see my precious friends die in front of me again".
He smashed Gaara into pulp.
Sasuke finally admits 'For me, you became my closest friend".
And later he sprouted his first tail.
When Sasuke was branded as an international criminal, Naruto hyperventilated due to his extreme suffering.
[I don't count Naruto sprouting 8 tails for Hinata as a means of love. Coz, even if Sakura jumped and got her ass kicked like that, the result would be the same]
Somehow Sasuke always brings out extreme emotions out of Naruto, be it happiness or rage or suffering, which is a clear indicator of how Naruto places Sasuke above everyone else.
Now, you tell me, If there is a person whom you love more than yourself, is being used by some trash before your eyes... Just like how you were being used once, how can you not become extremely protective?
Maybe I am biased, but it just feels that Naruto, who is not known for being analytical or strategic, suddenly becomes smarter when it comes to Sasuke.
You are not biased anon, it’s just you worded it differently.
Smartness refers to using your brain. Love or emotions refers to using your heart. Naruto always pours out his heart before Sasuke.
The correct way of putting it is,
Maybe I am biased, but it just feels that Sasuke, who is known for being analytical or strategic, suddenly becomes dumber when it comes to Naruto
Sasuke decided to give the scroll to Orochimaru only after Naruto appeared in the scene.
Sasuke decided to seek power from Orochimaru only after he felt inferior to Naruto and according to him, the bond with Naruto is making him softer, in other words weaker.
In short, it’s just Sasuke’s dumbness makes Naruto looks smarter. So Naruto is desperately using all his powers and past experience to protect Sasuke at all costs.

NaruHina Analysis
Naruto Manga Part 1
Part 3

While everyone else doubt that Hinata could continue to fight, Naruto is seen getting very frustrated. He wants Hinata to prove that failures can change. By adopting his attitude she shows Naruto that she has the same mind set as him and that obviously creates a huge impact on the neglected orphan who no one pays any respect to. That someone admires him and adopts his nindo, that he has such an influence on someone is amazing to him. So thus he naturally respects her and believes in her. He’s very eager to watch and cheer for her, because he sees his own struggles in her and acknowledges her as an equal. While everyone else doubts, he believes and i think that’s very important.

Hinata attacks with all her strength, while Naruto’s words resonates in her mind. She never belittled Naruto, never judged him. She has always believed in him throughout her life, as we see in the flashbacks panels. We see here just how strong Hinata feels for Naruto. He is her comfort, her source of inspiration. She is treated like dirt by her family in a world that forces children to fight as soldiers. Hinata is a natural pacifist. Her calm and kind nature is too peaceful for war and perhaps that holds her back from her potential. Low self esteem and self doubt certaintly doesn’t help either. But when she looks at Naruto, she feels hope, that even she can achieve something, that she is worth something. She looks at the other ”failure” and feel admiration and hopefulness just from watching his behaviour. He’s load, she’s quiet. He is confident, she is insecure. He’s an extrovert, she’s shy. The opposite attracts.
May i ask why Kishimoto would bother to show this if it wasn’t important? Hinata is a side character, yet we see her internal dialogue and how she feels for the main character. All this has a meaning and the answer is that Hinata will become Naruto’s love interest.

Kurenai has seen how much Hinata has tried to change, even when she fails, she keeps trying. She even admits that, although Hinata will lose the match against Neji, Hinata has shown her will to change, and this is a huge step in the development of her character. Naruto is once again her source of inspiration. Knowing that Naruto is cheering for her and looking at her with completly diffrent eyes she feels confidence flow through her and believes in herself more than she ever has before. The look in her eyes says it all.

Hinata gets struck down by Neji and it looks like she has lost the match. I’ve seen comments from haters that say Hinata is weak or useless, but i mean really?! Do they even know who she’s fighting? We see two individual fights of Hinata, Neji and Pain. Neji is the Hyuga Prodigy and a genius, he is also a year older and fought with the intention to kill. And Pain, i mean oh boy. That bloke killed Kakashi, killed Jiraiya, defeated every single shinobi in the strongest village and blew it up with his own jutsu. Almost defeated Naruto and then still had enough Chakra to revive the whole village. He’s an absolute beast and has powers equal to a God. Only Naruto could defeat those two. Also if Hinata fought anyone else there except for Neji, Lee, Gaara, Sasuke and Naruto she most likely would have clapped them, with relative ease. Not everyone in the Hyuga Clan even unlocks the Byakugan and then they have to master the gentle fist. Which Hinata has done at the age of 12. (She also created her own jutsu in shipudden something that is on par with Naruto and Sasuke so she is far from weak).
The only thing that is on Naruto’s mind right now is Hinata. She is the only thing that matters to him and the only thing he can see in this moment. Naruto knows Hinata wants to change herself. He is seen getting quite upset when it appears that she is losing. Naruto payed so close attention to her that he was the first to notice that she was getting up and yelled very loadly to not stop the match. He was the only one that was not suprised to see her rise up. Of course, he knows she wants to change and this new knowledge of her earns his admiration and respect. He believes in her when everyone else does not and he wants to show them her guts and that she will fight until the end. He would do exactly the same.

Hinata rises up and keeps fighting, so she can prove to Neji that she can choose her own fate and change it. Naruto is proud of her.
Hinata then stands up against Neji and acts like the bigger person, and acknowledges the real problem. That it is Neji who is truly suffering. This enrages him and he goes into attack to kill her.

Hinata starts to cough up blood after the gentle fist damages her organs. Naruto screams out to her and is the first to rush over to her. He asks if she’s alright and holds her hand while she loses consciousness. That he reaches for her hand when he checks on her, shows just how strongly he bonded to her. (Kishi also has a thing for hand holding when it comes to romantic pairings *hint hint). He looks very worried for her as we can see from Hinata’s POV and stays with her until she loses conciousness completly.

Naruto doesn’t separate from Hinata until Neji addresses him, reminding him just the same words he told Hinata, a failure can never change.

Naruto gets extremly irritated by Neji’s provocation and Naruto says ”you want to test me?. He then launches at him to beat him to a pulp. Just because he insulted him and thus also Hinata. Naruto was literally going to fight Neji right there and then just because of the way he treated Hinata, and remember this is just an official match, but Naruto reacts very passionatelly and personal to their fight that is technically none of his business. But he felt this personal bond with Hinata that made him react this way. Rock Lee stops Naruto just in time. He could also relate to Hinata since he’s also considered a failure like them, but for whatever reason Naruto is the one who gets much more angry and feels deeper, personal empathy and understanding for Hinata, he has a certain protective instinct regarding her. Which gets confirmed with his next action...

He remembers Hinata’s Ninja Way and bravery which amazed him, so he picks up her blood with his fingers, squeezes his hand and promises Hinata to defeat Neji for her under a vow of her own blood.

This is a very impressive gesture and speaks volume of how strongly Hinata reached to Naruto. This shows us Kishimoto’s intentions with Naruto and Hinata. Until now, Naruto has never looked so serious and passionate and made something so impressive, especially for what is essentially a side character. Something that he saw in Hinata triggered a protective instinct and made him trigger a very passionate gesture. My only conclusion is what Naruto felt during all this was the first signs of love. Love because he cared so much about her fight, love because he acknowledges her as a kindred spirit, love because he believed in her when nobody else did. This is all subconcious for him, but it is what made him react this way.
Maybe of topic here but when Naruto watched Sakura’s fight, he could not understand why she acted so aggresively with Ino, even due he has a similar rivalry with Sasuke. Kakashi even adresses this. Naruto just cant connect with Sakura. Meanwhile he has no problem understanding Hinata’s situation.
We can see here that his empathy for Hinata is what made him perform his blood vow. He formed a connection with Hinata and that connection was sealed with his blood vow. In Naruto we see how people are connected through blood, for example with the summoning jutsu. Naruto’s blood vow to Hinata was him sealing that connection between them. That will be all for this part. Here are the previous parts if you wanna read them.

Misplaced dynamics
Summary: Sasuke and Sakura are fated mates, but they were never supossed to bond this early.
Rating: T
Characters: Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, Kakashi Hatake, Naruto Uzumaki
Relationships: Sasuke Uchiha/Sakura Uchiha, Team seven
For the Sasusaku month day 1: Stuck with you
Warning: Dubious consent but not sexual in nature, fantasy dubcon
It’s not Sakura’s fault, neither is Sasuke’s, if they were to put the blame on someone, they would blame Kakashi, for not realizing that Sasuke’s interactions with Sakura, were different than Naruto’s interactions with the pink-haired Omega.
It started after waves.
In Sakura’s defense, she never thought of her teammates as part of her pack before that mission, she’s only ever had her mom and her dad, an Alpha and a Beta to command her as the Omega of the house and they were both the only members of her pack as far as she was concerned.
It was different for the males apparently.
The three of them Alphas and also sadly, orphaned and left without a pack, they threw themselves into pack dynamics at the very moment Team 7 was assembled. With Kakashi as the leader of the pack and a father figure so to speak, Sasuke as the second in command, Naruto as the Beta, even though he was an Alpha, and Sakura as the Omega.
Sakura never thought much of it when they scented her or when Kakashi and Sasuke growled at her and Naruto for stepping out of line, she never thought much of it when the boy protected her or sheltered her while on missions. Her parents were exactly the same and for some time, even Ino did some of those things. She rarely interacted with people outside of her pack and she didn’t know that people outside of a pack would never dare to scent Omegas that didn’t belong to them.
No wonder her parents were always angry after she came back from training.
A few days after waves, just a few days left before they could finally come back to Konoha, Sakura started to feel the clear signs of a Nesting Frenzy.
It should be obvious that it was going to happen. The only times she’s ever fell into a Nesting Frenzy was both when she thought she was going to lose her parents.
Once when she was three and her father went on his first mission outside of the village since her birth and once when she was seven and her mother fell ill with a virus from Kiri and had to take residence at hospital for two entire weeks.
Both times when members of her little pack were threatened in her eyes.
Seeing Sasuke, one of her Alphas, at death’s doors, triggered the feral necessity of having her pack close and safe. It should be obvious, but she didn’t understand what her body was demanding because she honestly didn’t consider team seven as her pack.
It started with the need of being close to Kakashi. He was her oldest and strongest Alpha on her pack and even though she already had a father, her instincts told her that he was the safest person to be around for what was to come.
Then she started to take care of Naruto; to feed him if he whined about being hungry, to take his arm if he was about to trip like the clumsy idiot that he was, she also started to sleep near him just to be sure that nothing could happen to him while asleep.
The fact that Sasuke decided to sleep near them was just a bonus.
They only noticed when she started to take their things.
“Naruto,” She demanded a few days into their trip, “Give me your jacket.” She wasn’t prepared for the three Alphas to stare at her as if she was being irrational.
“Sakura-chan?” Asked Naruto squinting at her with a confused expression on his face. Sakura growled at him in response, only earning a growl aimed at her from Kakashi, who didn’t appreciate Sakura threatening the Beta of the pack for no good reason according to him.
“I’m cold,” she lied looking directly at Naruto, “Please give me your jacket.” Her scent was pitiful enough for Sasuke to growl at Kakashi and Naruto eventually yielded and lend her his jacket.
It was big on him but not on her, it was a little rough, not soft enough to make part of a nest like she used to make back home, but it smelled like Naruto and for her Omega, it was enough.
Then she asked for Kakashi’s gloves, “I’m cold, Kakashi-sensei” She lied again, “Please give me your gloves” she made sure to release a distressed omega scent right away. She was so close to make her nest, she just saw a big three near them for her to lie her sleeping bag, she had Naruto’s Jacket to cover her and she managed to steal everyone’s pillows. She only needed her pack’s Alpha gloves to actually feel safe on her makeshift nest.
Kakashi didn’t give her his gloves, instead he smiled under his mask and handed her his jacket, “Do you want to lie down, Sakura-chan?” He asked, holding her by her shoulders and nuzzling her hair with his shin.
“Yes,” she sighed, “there’s a big sugi over at the clearing we just passed, I want to stay there.” Stated the pink haired girl melting in his embrace.
Kakashi guided her kindly to the tree while the boys moved their things with confusion clear on their faces “Sakura-chan is nesting” explained Kakashi, allowing Sakura to lie down and arrange their things as she saw fit.
“Nesting?” Questioned the blond alpha, too young and sheltered to be aware of the Omega’s pack habits.
“It’s a thing Omegas do when they feel threatened or when they feel someone on their pack may be threatened,” explained Sasuke, “Sakura just needs to be surrounded by our scents and everything will be fine by tomorrow, probably.”
“Just like that?” Questioned the Jinchuriki unsurely as he saw Sakura hiding under her sleeping bag.
“She probably won’t” Sighed Kakashi scratching the back of his head, “She doesn’t have her parent’s scents near so her nest won’t be complete with just our things,” he explained defeated.
Obviously vexed by the fact that he had to admit that one of his precious packmates was also an estranger’s packmate and Omega.
“So, what do we do?” Asked Sasuke with a frown on his face.
“We can comfort her,” answered Kakashi with determination, “we may not be her original pack but she clearly recognizes us as pack or she wouldn’t be nesting right now,” he explained as if trying to convince himself, “she recognizes the dynamics of our pack and we can reinforce those dynamics so her Omega can be calmed by our presence near her.”
“Wouldn’t that mess up her dynamics with her parents, though?” Asked Naruto with clear concern.
Kakashi had the decency of looking just a little bit sheepish, Sasuke wasn’t as kind “She’s a Kunoichi,” he growled, “her dynamics were bound to change early, just like all of our dynamics changed.”
“But you can’t just decide that by yourself!” Screamed Naruto, in distress, “she’s vulnerable right now!”
“She couldn’t expect to be split up between packs for much longer!” Screamed Sasuke in response, “It doesn’t work like this! She’s ours or she’s theirs but she can’t belong with the both of us!”
“She doesn’t belong to anyone, you idiot!” Growled Naruto, “She’s her own person!”
Kakashi only intruded when they grabbed each other with the intention to physically fight, he couldn’t allow their little pissing contest to ruin Sakura’s nest, after all.
“As much as I hate this too, Naruto,” Intervened Kakashi, “If we leave her alone for much longer, she might go feral,” he warned them, “Sasuke is right anyway, shinobi do detach themselves from their family earlier than civil kids, Sakura will be fine, we will make sure of it.”
“What do we do then?” Asked the blond with a tired sigh.
“We have to scent her one by one,” explained the jounin, “it will be different for everyone but your instincts will tell you what are your dynamic with her in within the pack.”
“So, we just follow our instincts…” pondered Sasuke.
“Yes,” smiled Kakashi.
That was his mistake.
When It came to Kakashi it was easy to understand their dynamic; he was a father figure for Sakura and that was pretty much it. Same with Naruto; he was like a brother to her and after an affectionate round of hugs their dynamics where more than cemented.
It was different for Sasuke, it was obvious that they were not ready to acknowledge their dynamics at their age by the way Sakura wouldn’t even ask for Sasuke’s belongings for her nest and Sasuke would only feel the need to be near Sakura if she was in danger or if she happened to get too affectionate with Naruto.
They weren’t ready but Sasuke was following his instincts when he hugged Sakura close to his chest, they weren’t ready but Sakura was following her instincts when she presented her neck to the alpha she almost lost a few days ago.
They weren’t ready but Sasuke was following his instincts when he bit her mating gland, growling low from the back his throat as Sakura growled alongside him.
It was all Kakashi’s fault.

Chapter 07
AO3 Link
⏤.⏤
Sasuke was stirred awake from the familiar noise of his alarm, groaning. He was surrounded by Naruto’s comfortable scent, and all he really wanted was to spend the rest of the day nestled together in bed, savoring arms embracing him from behind. Inhaling, he tightened his hands around those arms before releasing them, stepping out of his bed. He instantly heard a grouchy groan, as Naruto’s fingers clung on his sweatpants.
“Mmm…com’ back to bed, Sas’ke…” Naruto mumbled, yawning widely.
“We have to work today Naruto, I’m going to be late. C’mon, wake up.” Sasuke extracted himself from Naruto’s clutches, giving two light shakes on the slumbering body.
“GooooooOooood. Don’t wannaaaaa…” Naruto whined, pushing the blanket over his head as he curled inside.
Sasuke rolled his eyes smiling, and began his morning ritual. The usuratonkachi will handle himself then. When he was busy grilling his fish, he felt Naruto hugging him from behind, placing his chin on the shoulder. He peppered kisses on the pale skin, until he began licking, and sucking the neck.
Sasuke groaned, gripping the blond hair. “Nnnngh⏤Naruto, what are you doing?”
“Having breakfast, what else.” The blond man said almost too innocently, while his hands were already groping his ass.
“I’m telling you, dumbass, we have to go to work. I don’t have time for your aaaaaaaah⏤” He moaned, when warm hands slithered inside his sweatpants, digits lingering dangerously close to his entrance.
Naruto shoved down his pants, pulling Sasuke closer as he admired the firm buttocks. He crouched down, widening the asscheeks and gave a langurous lick on the entrance. Sasuke buckled, his legs shivering a little before groaning lustfully when Naruto's tongue speared inside, moist lips caressing the sensitive skin while fingers firmly held his ass.
"Naruto…fuck." He gasped when teeth scraped on his skin, nose burying on his ass while his lover continued to stimulate him. "I'm going to kill you, we're gonna arrive laaaAaaaaah⏤"
Naruto snorted, lubed fingers thrusting in the loosen hole, loving how Sasuke kept hissing, moaning helplessly and legs twitching in response. At some point his hips began gyrating, burying deeper as digits kept fucking him, head throwing to the back, lost in those pleasurable sensations. He choked another groan, forehead resting on his own arms, when Naruto restarted penetrating him with his tongue, thumbs pressing on the perineum.
Naruto let out a hot breath over his hole, before slathering with his tongue, kissing over it and dragging his lips down. He let his teeth playfully scratch the pale skin, hands fondling the firm buttocks, the tip of his tongue teasing and flicking inside. With one long moan while he licked the tight ring, out of nowhere, Naruto raised himself, patting playfully the pale asscheeks. He was going to step back until a hand seized him.
“What the hell are you doing?”
“Oh? We should go right? You said you were going to kill me if we arrive late at work.”
Sasuke didn’t even need to turn around to confirm that his boyfriend was wearing a very mischievous grin right now. Nevertheless, he snarled. “I’ll cut your dick off you don’t finish what you started, so get on with it.”
Chuckling, Naruto drug down his jeans, wasting no time in obeying what was requested.
⏤.⏤
15 minutes. He was 15 minutes late all because that dumbass had no ounce of self-control. Sasuke quickened his steps, opening the door and noticing that he was the last one to arrive in his own company. Worst part about all this, is that Naruto wouldn’t arrive as late because the company he worked for was closer than his.
Suigetsu was walking by, stopping at once when he spotted Sasuke. “Ho-hooooooooo. Are my eyes deceiving me? Did I just see Uchiha Sasuke arriving late for the first time in his life? What happened?”
Sasuke didn’t answer his enquiry, glaring as he went to his room.
“No answer huh. That only mean one thing: dating Uzumaki must be going very well.” Suigetsu tapped on his chin, contemplating. “Enquiring minds want to know some things though. Did you top or you let him top you?”
Rubbing the bridge between his eyebrows, Sasuke ignored him and turned on his laptop.
“I mean, from what I’ve heard, you topped back when we were in college. But Uzumaki doesn’t look like bottom material. Or maybe he does, can’t get that hot ass goes to waste.”
There was an annoyed twitch in his eye, but otherwise Sasuke remained nonchalant.
“On the other hand, he can’t sit still in our meetings, so I can infer he has a lot of stamina. Which, you know, are good qualities for someone to do the deed. You look like you’d get tired after a few thrusts, honestly.”
Suigetsu didn’t receive any acknowledgement coming from Sasuke but he definitely noticed that the noises of keyboard typing were increasing by the second.
“Oh, but Uzumaki could ride you then. Hm, just imagining him doing this is really sexy⏤”
“Suigetsu, say one more word and I’ll sue you for harassment.”
His friend raised his hands in mock defeat, turning back towards his seat. He dropped one last thing. “It’d better if Uzumaki topped, because only a dick would loosen up your uptight ass⏤!” He fled to the toilet, Sasuke chasing him hot in his trail.
Meanwhile, in another office, Neji stared in a deadpan with crossed arms.
“You’re eight minutes late.”
Naruto sighed happily, putting coffee on his mug with a goofy grin. “I am, aren’t I? I am, I am.”
Neji observed the dreamy expression on the blond man’s face, the distant look as if he was recalling some really good memories in his mind. “If you’re this late, I can’t imagine how late Sasuke would be then.”
“Yeah, but he’s the boss. What’s the worst that he could get, people teasing him?” Naruto gulped down his coffee, quirking a lopsided smirk. “I mean, it’s not my fault I’m this irresistible. Oh hey, Ayumi-san and Akane-san, good morning!” He frantically waved towards the coworkers that just arrived.
They smiled back. “Morning Naruto-kun! You’re in a good mood, I see.”
“I’m in a great mood.” Naruto beamed. “I feel like this is going to be the start of a great day. You guys are great, this is great, life is great…morning Suzuki-san!”
Neji sighed. The next few weeks are going to be unbearable.
⏤.⏤
In retrospect, reaching this point in their relationship was bound to happen sooner or later. Sasuke would prefer it was a little bit later though, considering that once they arrived at this degree, Naruto could get a bit too…excited might not be the right word. Enthusiastic? Intense with his endless stamina? Sasuke remembered when they spent a whole week having a sex marathon until his energy was completely depleted, though his blond dumbass continued to hop around like some energized bunny.
Plus, that was back when they were young, he’s honestly getting too old for this. Naruto also had this habit of being pretty one-track mind and couldn’t keep his hands to himself (and Sasuke would never admit that he wanted it too, so he just let the situation run its course), so he wished they could concentrate on other aspects of their blooming relationship instead of spending every waking time being human versions of naked pretzels.
He’s definitely going to have a hard time convince Naruto though. Just this morning he received an onslaught of cheerful messages and he’s sure that his boyfriend is now all over the moon. Sasuke was getting influenced by his rambunctious energy that Suigetsu caught him smiling while reading some answer Naruto just sent. The only reason his friend didn’t tease him was because he promised bloody murder if Suigetsu even dared open his mouth.
Work was done, day was over, they were planning to watch a movie, located close to his home. It was hard controlling his loud heartbeats when Naruto was waiting for him at the lobby, an ear-splitting grin widening once blue eyes recognized him exiting the elevator. He grabbed Sasuke’s hand, dragging him to the bathroom. Sasuke gazed with one eyebrow raised while his boyfriend checked if the stalls were empty, mouth open ready to ask what the hell this dumbass was doing, when Naruto’s lips reached onto his.
Whatever rational thought evaporated when warm hands caressed the back of his neck, little shivers of pleasure as Sasuke returned their kiss, arms circling around Naruto and pulling their bodies closer.
After a good couple of minutes, Naruto released him with a fond smile, fingers caressing the alabaster skin.
Sasuke murmured, voice husky. “So…” He cleared his throat. “What was that?”
“Nothing. I just really wanted to kiss you.” Naruto replied in candid affection.
Oh. He forced his hands down that were itching to rip the orange t-shirt apart. Sasuke couldn’t believe that he was this close to making such a ludicrous idea. Which, uh, it’s Naruto’s fault. Mixed signals and all.
If anything this just proves his initial point right. They needed to take things slower. Be disciplined, control themselves. He could practically feel Naruto’s eagerness emanating from his body, fidgeting and grinning while they were walking back to his apartment.
“Naruto, we’re going way too fast in this relationship.” Sasuke declared point blank.
“What.” His boyfriend muttered. “No, we don’t. Why are you assuming we’re going fast?”
Sasuke refrained himself from rolling his eyes. “We’ve been having sex non-stop so far. And I’m sure you chose an early screen in a movie theater close to my apartment because you’re sure we’ll have more sex once this was over.”
“Yeah, it’s like finishing the date on a happy note right. What’s wrong with that.” Naruto said, curling a impish grin.
“That’s what I meant how we’re going too fast, moron. We should refrain ourselves from doing this every single time.”
A blond eyebrow was raised. “Wow, I didn’t know I was dating a monk who wants to celibate.”
“You’re exaggerating.”
“Affectionate moves should be limited to only hands gestures, with two meters of distance.” Naruto continued to recite, copying Sasuke’s nonchalant tone.
“Stop putting words in my mouth.”
“I might get contaminated by dumbass germs.”
“That part is quite true.” Sasuke snorted, smirking how Naruto huffed in response. “My point is that I want to explore more other aspects of our relationship. I don’t want this be defined solely about how good the sex is.”
“If it’s that good, why should we avoid it then?”
“Because it’s easy to fall in this trap. I’m not saying that we should stop it completely⏤” Sasuke hurried to elucidate when Naruto opened his mouth ready to launch a diatribe. “But there are a lot of other aspects that can be further developed, but when we’re busy⏤”
“Screwing our brains out.” Naruto supplied.
“Yes, whatever term you prefer. When we’re busier doing these activities, we can’t find time to do anything else.”
Naruto hummed, eyes screwed in reflection while he crossed his arms.
“All I’m saying, is that we have the tendency to get too sexual, once we went down this rabbit hole. I wanted to get to know you better, enjoy our dates together.”
Naruto considered his set of words, then nodded. “Sure. Nice and slow. I can work with that.”
⏤.⏤
“OH FUCK! Harder Naruto!”
Sasuke honestly to God didn’t know how their night ended up this way. Might be the fact that Naruto innocently (but not so innocently) gave him one last kiss, sliding through his lips with a healthy amount of tongue. Maybe it’s because he had accidentally (or maybe not as much) fondled Naruto’s buttocks, which promptly made Naruto shove him to the wall, kisses escalating with louder grunts and moans, clothes flung aside.
Within seconds Naruto was already ruthlessly impaling inside him, loud wet noises of slapping skin echoing in his living room. At some point the friction from the floor to his back was bothering him, so Naruto dislodged him, propping him up as he turned around positioning on the couch, hands tightening on the soft surface with his knees on the seat. Not sensing Naruto getting closer to him, his head turned to glance behind and Sasuke blushed when he saw lustful blue eyes admiring the view, hand pumping the glistening cock. Licking his lips, Naruto reapplied the lube, letting his fingers caress the firm buttocks, one digit lazily gliding in, curling inside and stimulating his prostate. The middle finger joined, shallow thrusts while pressing on that sensitive spot, that had Sasuke aching for more.
He grunted. "Naruto, if keep fucking around you dumbass I swear to God⏤" He cried out wordlessly when that thick cock penetrated him. Naruto’s hands reached to his pale shoulders, pushing his upper body down and speeding up his thrusts.
Sasuke’s voice was already hoarse from all the screaming, blurted demands to fuck him harder as Naruto complied him, brutal stabs that had him reeling. His lover had such intimate knowledge of his body that any rational thoughts dissolved away, and all that Sasuke craved was their bodies being melded together, driving to the brink of ecstasy.
As they were both recovering from the high, Sasuke was sprawled on the sofa and Naruto’s body was crammed next to him, he was able to form some sort of rationale. “What about…the restraint.” He muttered between gasps.
“I mean…” Naruto was breathing heavily, staring back at him. He shrugged one shoulder. “There’s always tomorrow.”
Sure. Tomorrow was a sound idea. Tomorrow will be different, he'll have a new attitude, he'll reign more control on himself.
(Tomorrow consisted 69 fellatio in the morning but they didn't have penetrative sex, so that was an improvement. Right.)
⏤.⏤
After a whole week with many failed attempts, gasping after Naruto swallowed his cum, Sasuke had the nagging suspicion that his boyfriend wasn’t taking this whole discipline thing seriously. He confronted with a warning glare when a furtive hand was gliding inside his shirt.
“I thought we established we were going slow.”
“We are.” Naruto blinked. “You also said that we’re not going to stop if this happens naturally, right?”
“And how is this supposed to be natural?”
“My hands are cold.”
Sasuke wasn’t falling for that flimsy excuse, as his incredulous expression showed as such.
“Fine.” Naruto rolled his eyes. “It’s only this time though. I think I’m disciplining myself pretty well, and all the past times were just…you know, circumstances that were out of our control.”
“Yesterday you shoved your hand inside my pants while we were watching TV.”
“I wanted to know how your dick feels around my hand.”
“I’m sure you felt it plenty times back when we were in high school.”
Naruto’s grin was lopsided and mischievous. “Ah, but that was seven years ago Sasuke.”
Sasuke sighed loudly, bumping his boyfriend’s head with the back of his hand.
“It’s not my fault it’s much more entertaining sucking your cock than watching that boring documentary!”
“See? That’s what I meant that we’re too focused on sex. If you talked with me about what kind of movie you like instead of getting eager in giving me a blow job, I’d know your tastes better!” Sasuke chastised him.
“I wasn’t doing this on purpose!” Naruto defended himself. “I really wanted to watch that documentary since I know that you like that type of genre and I wanted to see if I’d start liking it too but oh God, it’s so boring…and well, your dick was right there, and even with your pants I could see the length of it, so I kinda got curious if it’s the same feel as before, and uh⏤you know what happened after that.” He fumbled, eyes straying to the ground.
Sasuke guessed he could only blame himself. After all, Naruto had a notorious short attention span regarding anything that doesn’t spark his interest and had a strong fixation in anything he really liked (mainly Sasuke). He contemplated another plan of contention.
“Let’s do a competition.”
Naruto’s blue eyes focused in an instant, adjusting his seat. “Alright…what are the stakes?”
Sasuke considered this. He couldn’t choose something like the loser will let the winner top him because Naruto didn’t care either way who would take or receive. If he came up about letting the winner indulge some fetish, they might enjoy too much and get further down the rabbit hole. Neither of them are very swayed over the prospect of winning money too.
A light bulb went off.
“If we manage not to have anything of sexual kind for a week, I’ll treat you the famous Ramen that won three Michelin stars.”
The moment Sasuke said the magic word, blue eyes widened and sparkled in childish joy that was almost blinding. Naruto grinned. “Really?????”
“Yes, and if you lose I⏤”
“I’m gonna win! I’m definitely gonna win! There’s no way I’m gonna lose. If this ever happen I’ll shave my hair, I’ll chop off my dick, whatever but I. Am. Going. To. Win.”
Sasuke stared in deadpan, the determined expression on his boyfriend’s face and muttered. “Sometimes I wonder if I’m your soulmate or Ramen is your soulmate when you speak of it with this much passion.”
“Haha, very funny asshole. Don’t worry Sasuke-kun, Sasuke-chan, I’ll keep my word and I won’t lay one hand on you or my name won’t be Uzumaki Naruto!”
“You don’t have to go that far, I just⏤”
“I’ll be a saint! I’ll make all monks across the world jealous about how much restraint I’ll show!”
“I said you don’t have to go that f⏤”
“I won’t touch a strand of your hair Sasuke!”
“Usuratonkachi⏤I told⏤”
“I’ll be better than Virgin Mary!”
“Naruto!”
⏤. ⏤
This bet might have…backfired terribly. Sasuke didn’t want them to go overboard but he sort of expected at least they would have something that went a little beyond chaste kisses, lips barely touching before Naruto would hop off back to his home. When Sasuke mentioned that they could freely kiss as long as they wouldn’t go too far, the blond man shrugged and said.
“Yeah, but Ramen…”
Sasuke sighed.
Meanwhile, Naruto was snickering about how Sasuke was getting visibly frustrated with the lack of physical contact. Never underestimate his desire into crafting the perfect prank. After he dismissed Sasuke for the 6th day with just a short peck (Tsunade was going to visit him that night but he didn’t mention that for greater humorous effect), Sasuke really looked like he wanted to backpedal this whole bet.
He opened his door, not surprising his aunt was rummaging his fridge, with an automatic complaint. “Welcome home brat. What did I tell you about eating a healthy and balanced diet?”
“I’m home, old hag.” Naruto shook his head. “I’m eating pretty damn well!”
“All I’m seeing is a Ramen bowl and some carrots.”
“It’s the end of the week, I’m going to the grocery store tomorrow.”
Tsunade narrowed her eyes, not falling for that excuse. “Anyways, I brought some food with me, I’ll cook dinner tonight. Get your futon ready for me too.”
Pleasantly surprised by the sudden freebie, his stomach growled already imagining the delicious homemade food his aunt would cook for him. He said carefully. “Are you sure? I mean, you’re on the verge of winning an important election, surely you have better things to do right?”
Tsunade patted his head, pulling his cheek. “Even I would get tired having meetings over and over throughout this whole campaign. I really wanted some breather so I could spend some time with my family.” She sighed, glancing unfocused at distance. She began picking some mackerel, cleaning the fish as she changed the subject. “Anyways…how’s your relationship with Uchiha-kun going?”
Blue eyes blinked, then widened a very wicked grin.
“I know that smile well enough to understand that you brewed some trouble that would give me headaches. What did you do to your poor soulmate?”
“I didn’t do anything. I swear.” He was right. In a sense.
Tsunade stared as her nephew continued to laugh mischievously and rolled her eyes. This brat was going to be the death of her sometimes. While she was busy grilling the fish, Naruto helped her out, washing and cutting the vegetables for her, also fluffing the rice for them. Despite her nagging, this young man was eating healthier food in comparison to his preteen years. Time surely flew by in one instant blink, and she wished she had properly followed his growth instead of getting swamped with politics and city administration. She was glad that her nephew didn’t hold many grudges towards her though.
After that nice dinner, they were relaxing watching some historical drama about an emperor’s chef. Naruto was giving his aunt some shoulder massages after Tsunade not-so-subtly began rubbing her neck and reminding him how exhausted she was, promptly gonking the upside of his head when he gave a remark about her advanced age.
“So what caused you to take a long break after many months of campaign?” Naruto wondered while he kneaded her shoulders.
Tsunade let out a tired groan and warned him. “You’re not going to like the conversation.”
He moved his head to one side, not comprehending her cryptic words but decided to bite the bullet. “Maybe, but I guess it’s too late to change the subject. So what’s all about?”
She turned her upper body to study the young man, revealing. “The party has been pressuring me to find a suitable successor.”
“Let’s change the subject.” Naruto picked up the controller, determined to raise the volume.
He inwardly groaned when he saw the familiar knitted eyebrows coming from his aunt, as she fully turned to face him, placing her hands on her waistline. “And you know well that it’s hard for me to find anyone, when I’m 100% sure that the best suitable candidate is right in front of me.”
“We already had this conversation, baa-chan.” He whined.
“I know, but you have to admit that you’re made for this! You’re one of the very few people I fully trust and you’re also perfect to follow my steps! You’re honest, hardworking, also good-looking in my honest opinion. I mean, you got the best genes from our family and your father.”
“I’m not interested in politics.”
Tsunade ignored him, continuing to list his qualities. “You’re charismatic, have a strong sense of justice, charming with great leadership, all are qualities that make people want to follow you! Remember back in college, your soccer team and cheerleading squad went to many tournaments with full sponsorship all because of you!”
“Oh c’mon, you’re inflating my importance on this. It’s all because of hard work from my friends and teachers.” Naruto groaned, already pausing the TV screen.
“That followed you because they were inspired by you. You united them all into succeeding this common goal.” Tsunade attempted to persuade him. “Those are very rare talents that not many people have and I can’t believe you’re wasting not using them!”
“I don’t believe in politicians! I think most of them are always looking for a way to gain more power or money, and even the rare people who want to make a change, end up being swallowed by the system.” Naruto exclaimed, huffing loudly. “I mean, I trust you with my life, but I saw that you had to trade, to make concessions to get something else in return. I followed your political career throughout my middle school and highschool years, that I know enough dirt to make me sure I don’t wanna follow that.”
“You can be the voice of change then Naruto. If you’re my protegée I can protect you, guide you through and you can be the newer generation that will change Japan. I mean, where else are you going to put your leadership and charisma into good use?”
Naruto shrugged. “Well, helping good NGOs. Give them a voice, help them get sponsorships. This is why I’m a social media strategist.”
“And you know that even the best NGOs need to negotiate with government officials to let their ideas blossom. We’re the ones that make all of this work.” Tsunade pointed out.
“Yeah, this is why I’m helping you out, because I believe you’re going to be a good mayor.” Naruto grumbled, scratching his head. “This is why I’m also helping Sasuke, he’s building a NGO in the future. I let your voices be heard.”
“I really appreciate you aiding me, I really do. But all I’m hearing is you making someone else’s dream come true. What about your dreams?”
“Oh God, what’s the problem of helping someone else fulfill his dream?” He let out a displeased groan.
Tsunade grabbed his arms, squeezing with added effort. “Because you’re a natural born leader Naruto, you were never suited to being shoved behind the scenes. I’m sure whatever aspiration you’ll have, you’ll be able to make people move mountains for your cause. And it’s a shame you’re not using your abilities to your full potential.”
⏤.⏤
“Oh? And what happened after your aunt said all this long speech?” Sasuke muttered, trying no to sway too much from the movement in the subway wagon.
“She said that she could see that I was getting really tired and we called it a night. But you know baa-chan, before she went away she repeated that I really have to consider her words.” Naruto sighed.
“Hm.” Sasuke contemplated for a while. “I mean, she’s not wrong. For some odd reason you dumbass is able to charm people into your circle.”
“What? We were lonely brats back then, you forgot?”
“Right, but after a while, you started getting friends left and right. First it was Gaara, that honestly I still don’t get how you managed to change him from a murderous maniac to a gardener.”
“Yeah, back then you were jealous that I have gotten close to Gaara, it was so cute.” Naruto grinned and batted his eyelashes, unaffected by the venomous glare he received from his boyfriend.
“Then, Sakura and Shikamaru. Shikamaru dragged Chouji and Ino with him. Then Neji, with Lee and Tenten, and before I knew, you befriended like half of the school, that you could become some sort of gang leader terrorizing the city.”
“Hah, that would be cool right. My aunt would pummel me to the ground though.” Naruto chortled.
“Right…and I remember back in the day, you wanted to be a Hokage right? To get your aunt’s attention.” Sasuke smirked, gazing how his boyfriend gave an automatic shudder in response.
“You really have to dig all the memories back then huh. The whole reason I wanted this Hokage thing because of some anime I used to watch, it was just some silly kid dream.”
“All I’m saying, is that your aunt is right. You have some weird dumbass charisma that I don’t really get but I guess it’s some sort of innate talent. You listen to people and sympathize with them, which makes them want to return the favor and follow you. Not everyone has this ability in leadership.”
Naruto huffed to himself, distraught that Sasuke ended up agreeing with Tsunade. He was pretty satisfied with his current career choice, but if his closest people planted seeds of doubt in his mind, what if he’s not reaching his full potential then?
“However…I believe that every human has many talents at his or her disposal. You don’t have the need to nurture every single one of them if you don’t want to. Your ability to lead is only one of them, if it’s a waste to develop it or not, the only person who will determine its value should be you.”
Sasuke finished his line of thought, expecting Naruto to be thoughtful or relieved. What he couldn’t predict was his dumbass staring back at him with wide eyes, the usual blabbermouth falling in complete silence.
A little unnerved, he grumbled. “What?”
Breaking his stupor with some blinks, Naruto rubbed the back of his head, his cheeks flushed red. “Uh…well…thanks.” He nudged his boyfriend on his arm with some added shyness. This was one of the many moments Naruto was glad Sasuke existed in his life, to give some voice of reason.
Suddenly, the alarm blasted out of Naruto’s smartphone. He fumbled to turn it off, only to read the contents and broadened a victorious grin. “Sasuke, we finally fulfilled seven days! You know what that means right?”
Sasuke sighed. “You won the bet.”
“Yes, I won the bet! Glorious, glorious ramen to my greatest delight. The restaurant is located in the next two stations.”
“Wait, I have to pay now? After all the great advice I just gave to you?” Sasuke protested.
“Those are two different things bastard. I’m never going to skip an opportunity to savor the greatest food of all time. The delicious noodles, sliced pork, that smooth broth that glides through my throat…man, I’m getting hungry just thinkin’ about it.” He patted his belly as emphasis.
Good thing Sasuke saved up some money because Naruto could inhale a huge amount of food if he so desired. This bet was a disaster from beginning to end. He also had to suffer Naruto spouting poetry over his beloved dish, for an ungodly amount of time while they were walking back to Naruto’s house, that Sasuke was mildly contemplating murder. Or maybe some poisoning. Just little droplets on the Ramen broth next time, that would force his dumbass to spend the entire day in the bathroom. That sounded like a nice, innocent plan.
“Anyways, thanks for paying this marvelous, exquisite Ramen. And give up cooking whatever is going on inside your bastard’s mind, I can see you’re thinking about something evil, I can feel it in my bones.”
“Honest to God, I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Sasuke muttered, head craning closer when Naruto gave him a cheeky kiss.
Naruto glanced towards his building, staring back towards his boyfriend that was beginning to turn around, back to the subway station. Licking his lips, he placed his hands on the pocket, mumbling. “Sasuke.”
His boyfriend grunted, turning back to face him.
“You want to spend the night here with me?” He shuffled his feet, glancing down. “I mean, now that the bet is over, you understand what I meant with that right.”
Sasuke struggled to keep an unperturbed face, also feeling his cheeks getting warmer. “…right.”
They fell silent for couple of awkward minutes, not daring to voice desires out in the open. Scratching his head, Naruto turned towards the entrance of his apartment, not wanting to insist on this. He took in a deep breath, opened the heavy door but the second he took one step inside, fingers interlaced with his own.
Naruto swallowed dryly, not daring to peek to his left but his hand squeezed in return. They were waiting inside the elevator to go to the appointed floor not one word being exchanged between them, to the point Sasuke was wondering why the fuck they were being so weird about this. It’s not like it’s their first time they had sex.
And yet, his heartbeats were drumming loudly through his ears when Naruto unlocked his apartment and they stepped inside. With his back resting on the door, Sasuke waited while blue eyes focused on him, hand reaching to lock behind him. Using the back of his hand, he caressed the pale cheek, thumb idly brushing his lower lip. Sasuke nipped it in response, stuttering his breath when Naruto approached, mouths matching together, soft and open.
Sasuke did wonder to himself all these abrupt changes. Not even a day had passed since they vowed to keep sex off their dates and they were eagerly jumping back as usual, but another huge part of his mind just wanted this moron to better kiss him like he meant it or else. While his eyes were still closed, he explored every curve and edge of Naruto’s face, nose nudging against his, stubbles on his cheeks and firm jaw, eyelids opening half mast to admire how those azure eyes always looked so youthful.
Once he comprehended such remarks, this surged from the deepest depths of his darkness, a mixture of pride and possessiveness how Naruto would devote all these affections only to him, having all those heated gazes focused solely on him.
Naruto gave one last moist kiss on his lips, whispering. “Let’s go take a bath. Right?” It was impossible for Sasuke to say no (the tattoo on his left hand throbbed for a second), stripping his shirt away while Naruto went to grab a towel for him.
Naruto had the regular japanese style of bathroom, shower head and the tap water located around the height of your knee, so you would wash yourself and rinse on a sitting position. There was a hot tub to soak in and relax once you cleaned yourself, but Sasuke doubted they would use it today.
He soaped his body in stiff movements, tense in anticipation once he heard Naruto approaching, one tanned arm grabbing the shower head and making him raise his face upwards staring towards Naruto’s puzzled expression.
The blond man dropped a kiss on his forehead, muttering. “What, I gotta wash myself, I stink.”
“Stink of Ramen broth I’m sure.” Sasuke replied, growling when Naruto sprinkled water in retaliation. This small skirmish relaxed him as he finished cleaning himself, picking a small towel.
A warm hand touched his shoulder, gliding through his spine and paused on the small back. Lips sucked on his neck, a sultry murmur reached close to his ear. “Let me wash your back.”
Sasuke used his most disinterested grunt in his arsenal, even though his dick twitched in response. A fluffy sponge lathered his body with soap, massaging his kinks and rubbing all over his skin. Naruto then rinsed off with warm water, sponge gliding on his frontal almost in an inquisitive, lazy way.
He leaned his body over Naruto’s, hitching his breath when hands reached to his bellybutton, skimming through his penis that was half-erect and moved to his sacs, foam gathering on that area. Grazing upwards, a sturdy hand curled the soft sponge around the shaft and began fondling his cock. He glided with increasing depth and speed, spurred by Sasuke’s quiet gasps and controlled moans, teeth grazing the pale shoulder as he also felt his cock rising in response.
Naruto threw the sponge aside, lathering his hand with soap and gripped the reddened cock. Sasuke trembled from the direct hot contact, body responding to the familiar touch, calloused fingers as Naruto stroked his length. His palm encircled and stimulated around the sensitive head, applying more pressure with each glide and pull, pre-cum flowing through the slit. Sasuke choked out a sharp moan, noticing Naruto’s hard cock pressing on his back, another hand spreading his legs and rolling his balls.
Sasuke went rigid, gasping heavily but Naruto’s fingers gripped on his base, halting his peak. Mouth glided and licked through his shoulders, hands caressed his chest and played with his nipples, touching nowhere close to his hard dick. Sasuke yanked the blond locks to bring their lips into a furious kiss, resisting the urge to touch his own cock as he entrusted his lover.
Once Naruto saw he was more in control, he restarted groping and sliding through the length, pleasuring Sasuke as those moans were increasing in cadence. Watching in fascination how Sasuke’s handsome features twisted and gasped in wanton need, hips moving to match his strokes, one arm hooking around his neck as their mouths brushed occasionally.
Naruto stopped his movements once again, when Sasuke knew he was very close to the edge. His breathing was fast and erratic, each of Naruto’s hands gripped his wrists and held them to the ground. He rested his head on the tanned shoulder, his inhales and exhales settling in until Naruto resumed jerking his cock again.
“Oh God, Naruto⏤!” Sasuke’s screamed, his whole body trashed in that brutal pace, bowing backwards. He was torn in between pleading to continue, or to stop this delicious torment because, at this point all the accumulated pleasure was way too much, overwhelming him. Powerful jets of semen erupted from his cock as Naruto drove him to completion, yelling hoarsely.
Staring at the ceiling, Sasuke was still milking the best orgasm in his entire life while attempting to regain some ounce of control. He turned around, determined to return the favor but then noticed the milky stains covering the sun-kissed stomach.
Naruto was also breathing heavily and shrugged. “The show was really good bastard.”
Sasuke rolled his eyes, lowering himself as his mouth slurped the soft dick, giving one last kiss before both men collapsed to the ground, taking another couple of minutes to recover.
⏤.⏤
Sasuke wore Naruto’s spare pijamas, he was slightly taller than his boyfriend but had narrower shoulders instead. After they watched one more episode of a TV series they both enjoyed, Naruto called the day, stretching his arms and walking towards his bedroom. Following behind, Sasuke braced himself, wondering how much Suigetsu would annoy him after he arrived late the next day.
However, the blond man merely lay down on his bed, patting on the spot in front of him. Sasuke obeyed bewildered, raising an eyebrow when Naruto adjusted his head around his chest, inhaling and sighing content while he laced his arms around Sasuke’s body. “Hey, dumbass.”
Naruto yawned. “Yeah?”
“Is that…all?” He was getting psyched for round two after their bathroom rendezvous, so this simple hug caught him off guard.
“Yeah Sasuke, we ate a huge dinner. It’s called anal sex for a reason.” Naruto then snorted and muttered to himself. “And you call me a dumbass.”
“I know that dumbass. But well, I thought…we were going to use other options available.”
“Oh? You want ‘em Sasuke-channnn?” Naruto’s voice was loud and amused.
“Nevermind.” Sasuke shoved his boyfriend away, ignoring the feeble protests in return.
Naruto laughed. “Just lemme cuddle you cold-hearted bastard. We can do all the naughty things you pervert want for la⏤hey, no punching on the defenceless, that’s cheating!”
Sasuke stopped after one last jab on the blond head, sighing. “You were the one who gave me unreasonable expectations that weren’t met.”
“Sasuke, I can obey whatever your sex crazed maniac wants me to do⏤”
“Wait a minute, you’re the one who kept jumping on me last two weeks, you dumbass⏤”
“Oh right, as if you’re an innocent victim that fell on my hands, you wanted you bastard, I just gave a nudge in the right direction⏤Anyways!” Naruto interrupted Sasuke’s incoming protest. “My point is…you were right. I’m enjoying that we’re taking things slower. I don’t think we have to restrict sex but instead, we can do it when we feel like it.”
Sasuke studied him in silence, and said quietly. “And you…don’t desire to…”
“Of course I do, but lately whenever on bed we end up having sex. I guess I wanted to change a little bit of this pace?” Naruto grinned. “Sasuke, there’s a lot of things I like about you, and mind-blowing sex with you is only one of ‘em. I just want to enjoy cuddling with you for now ok. Even if you’re an incorrigible bastard.”
“…hn.” Sasuke’s arms enveloped around Naruto’s body, chin resting on the blond hair.
“…awww are you hugging me b⏤”
“Do you have a death wish?”
Naruto just smiled. “Fine. ‘night asshole.”
“Good night usuratonkachi.”

Approaching Sun (26)
Author’s Note: Happy New Years! I realize that it has been a LONG time since I have updated this story. The school year has been an absolute killer. Not to mention that I am also working on my master’s degree and taking a ton of classes this summer.
In regards to this chapter, I ended up running out of time and decided to cut it in half due to the coherency of the story and the length. I wanted to give Satou and Isao a bit of a wrap up that does the story justice. However, the good news is that the second half will take less time to be posted. I will definitely be trying to work on this story because I have a LOT planned for it and it’s only just getting to the good parts (one coming up next chapter.) For my patient readers, this will be good news to you. For those who aren’t patient, hoping you’ll stick around to read J
Also, next to Naruto, reading and writing are my passions and my New Year’s resolution is to encourage more people to read. I created an Instagram account called read_with_rich where I will be posting about high-interest books in order to encourage non-readers to read by using the social media platform that can introduce people to books without them going to libraries or book stores (which they won’t if they don’t already read.) Give me a follow if you are interested!

Chapter 26: Monsters
There was a sharp mix of pungent smells permeating the air around them as Sasuke looked over Sakura’s shoulder at a particular herbalist book. His friend was sitting at a table in the center of the greenhouse, flipping through the Sunagakure plant log, scratching down a list of all the ingredients she would need to create the military ration pills.
When Sasuke commented on the smell, Sakura replied with “You get used to it.” And then she went into a detailed explanation of why plants even created all sorts of different smells--why many flowers had sweet aromas, but other plants had fouler scents. Sakura elaborated that it all had something to do with procreation. Something about bugs being attracted to them in order to spread pollination. She even went into the genetic purposes of tastes in plants. Sasuke listened with genuine interest at the wide variety of facts that she possessed.
Sasuke turned and leaned against the table as she spoke, tucking in his chin to his chest and closing his eyes. When he was sure she was distracted, Sasuke peeked at her between the lashes of his right eye. He noticed that her brow was furrowed as she searched for the plant she had written down. After a few minutes of this, she began to tap the end of the pen against her bottom lip, a subconscious behavior many people did while thinking. Sasuke couldn’t help but realize that he hadn’t paid much attention to anyone’s small habitual behaviors in the past few years except for in battle scenarios. To watch the cogs spinning in Sakura’s mind, had Sasuke feeling like he had missed out on much in the last several years.
After another few seconds, Sakura explained her concern: “I’m going to have to find a substitute plant for the medicinal aspects of the pills. Sunagakure doesn’t grow Tikasia in abundance here. The amount that I would need would deplete their entire reserve.”
Sasuke considered her word for a few seconds before his eyes narrowed a fraction when the door of the greenhouse opened. A white-coated man with sandy colored hair beamed hugely and raised his hand in greeting as he entered. “There you are, Sakura-san. I’ve been looking for you!”
Sakura broke from her deep concentration and turned from the table as she picked up on the calling. Sasuke raised his eyebrows slightly at the familiar tone the young man used. This must be a staff member from the hospital, a colleague that was working closely with Sakura while she was here. His presumption was confirmed when Sakura returned both the smile and call.
“Sorry Mako! Hope you haven’t been looking for too long.”
Mako?What-- are they on a first name basis or something? Sasuke pondered with a frown of disapproval.Sakura barely knew him, or at least, that’s what Sasuke thought. At least Makohad the decency to add the proper honorific to her name. Not that Sasuke could be the one to lecture on the topic.
The young physician made his way over to them and immediately offered a respectful bow to the both of them. Sasuke was never very good at returning these customs of respect, but after a minute of awkward staring, the Uchiha nodded his acknowledgement in a very uncaring sort of way. After bowing, the medic immediately turned to Sakura and glanced at her work on the table.
“Are you creating another medicine?” Mako asked, crossing his hands behind him in consideration, boldly reading the list she had compiled next to the herbal catalog.
Seeing her co-medic’s interest, Sakura picked it up and handed it to him while simultaneously pushing the book in his direction, an invitation for his opinion.
“You’re just the person I need right now actually.” She explained to Mako how she was creating a batch of military ration pills, a notion at which the male medic’s facial expression turned to one of surprise. Sasuke understood his disbelief; not many people knew how to make such a desired sustenance that tipped the scale in favor of those who consumed it in battle. When bringing up the topic of the ingredients she needed, he raised his thumb and forefinger to his chin, pinching it in contemplation.
Sasuke stiffened slightly when the young man pulled up a seat to sit beside her, pulling the book closer so they could both look at it together. “What about Ashuwa?” he offered, flipping to a plant towards the front of the book. Sasuke peeked over towards the illustration and noticed a shrubby little plant with bright yellow flowers.
“Ashuwa?” Sakura questioned, frowning down at the picture. “That belongs to the nightshade family, doesn’t it?”
“Yes,” he informed, “but it’s not fatal like many of its other relatives. It’s actually quite safe to consume unless the patient has some sort of allergic reaction to it.”
“That’s interesting. I’m not very familiar with it. What are its properties?”
“It’s a little stronger than Tikasia but more acclimated to our desert climate, so we have plenty of it here. Its primary effect is a boost in brain function. However, we have observed an increase in energy and muscle mass along with it. Some ninja even claim that after consuming it, it relieves them of stress.”
“All that?” Sakura pondered, dropping her jaw.
Sasuke raised an inquisitive brow as well. With benefits like that, it was a wonder they didn’t add it to every meal here. There had to be missing information obviously…
Sakura must have been thinking the same thing Sasuke had, because she immediately responded with. “What are the negative effects?”
Mako smiled at her insight. “Just like Tikasia, you crash and suffer chakra depletion as a result. You have to take far less of it than Tikasia. Like I said earlier, many people have severe allergic reactions to the plant which is why we don’t use it often.”
Sasuke couldn’t help but frown at the pair of doctors who discussed plants so casually with one another. Mako had a sort of charisma about him, and Sasuke could tell why Sakura would rely on him while she was here. The young man’s temperament sort of reminded Sasuke of their old schoolteacher, Iruka-sensei. However, Mako’s knowledge was so thorough that he almost reminded Sasuke of Kabuto; Sasuke had witnessed many in-depth medical conversations between Orochimaru and he.
Still leaning against the table, Sasuke closed his eyes, adopting an uninterested guise to go with the frown. Seeing them together, discussing their common interests, reminded Sasuke of something despite his epiphany last night. Watching her familiarity with this person reminded Sasuke that just because he had finally admitted to himself that loved her, didn’t mean that he should do anything about it. Sakura had told him firmly that she would only ever choose him and to not assume that if he left her alone, she would fall in love with someone else. Sasuke truly believed his female teammate about this. But seeing her cheerfully interact with Mako made Sasuke want to believe otherwise. Even though it stung him to think about Sakura loving someone else and another man being a part of her daily life, waking up beside her and hearing a confession from her lips, Sasuke knew it was what she deserved. He could never be that sort of man for her, especially not in the near future.
But now that Sasuke was certain of his feelings, would he be able to only ever be a close friend to her? Would he be able to watch someone else come into her life and become the person Sakura swooned over and built a family with? He would, Sasuke told himself. He hadto. Sasuke had already chosen in his heart to be the Itachi of this time and make the sacrifice for the greater good so that his loved ones like Sakura even had a future. He had to keep reminding himself of this.
Without meaning to, he let a low exhale of self-defeat escape his mouth. Realizing he had done so, Sasuke quickly glanced to his right to make sure no one noticed. Sakura, who Sasuke now noticed had stopped what she was doing, was now watching him despite the fact that Mako was still flipping through the book and explaining something to her.
His kunoichi teammate locked gazes with him, furrowed her eyebrows, and tilted her head in silent question. Sasuke broke their eye-contact immediately and Sakura returned her attention to Mako. It’s for the best, he thought to her.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Mako lead Sakura across the greenhouse to the white-labeled bushel of Ashu that he had spoken to her about. She measured out the amount she would need and began cutting it carefully with his assistance. Sakura had been surprised at this substitute that Mako had offered with certainty at its effectiveness. She pinched a sizable piece of it and placed it on her tongue and began to chew. With it being a nightshade after all, she wanted to be certain that it wasn’t toxic. Nightshades were highly cultivated by humans and most were safe to consume like Mako said, but since she had never heard of this plant and it was unfamiliar to her, she wanted to double-check Mako’s claim. Besides, he said it could cause allergic reactions.
Just so Mako’s feelings wouldn’t be hurt by her taste-testing, Sakura simply announced, “This actually tastes quite yummy. Much better than the bitter Tikasia.” Then she called out loud enough for Sasuke—who had been casually leaning against the table since their arrival—to hear, “You’re in luck, Sasuke. Maybe these pills won’t taste like ‘mudballs’ this time like Sai famously calls them.”
Sasuke peeked open his right eye at her, clearly not grasping a word of what she was referencing. Mako, on the other hand, laughed at her statement.
“Tikasia israther bitter. Is Sai a friend back home? Your friend really called them ‘mudballs’ to your face?” Mako laughed.
Sakura chuckled to herself a bit, returning her full attention to Mako. “Sai is a sort of special friend. He’s brutally honest; always has been.”
“Sometimes we need friends like that,” Mako said reassuringly, helping her pluck the stems and flowers of the plant and wrapping it up in paper.
Sakura nodded in agreement and instantly recalled many of her friends back home and a sort of homesickness radiated in her chest at the thought of them. She wondered how all of them were doing. She also thought of the hospital and Lady Tsunade in that moment too, and made a mental note to write a letter to check in on them.
She glanced up at Sasuke for the twentieth time that day, and her homesickness disappeared. When he was absent, she was always sick with longing for him. It suddenly surprised Sakura that she had never felt more at home than when she was with this man. She had confessed this to him before, but when he was gone, it felt as if she was alone. Sakura would fall asleep with thoughts of him and miss him just as much the following morning. That feeling had disappeared on her journey and this was the first time the kunoichi had missed someone else since she had picked up her bag and followed Sasuke down the cobbled street that night a few weeks ago.
Mako’s statement returned her to the present moment from her thoughts. “Isao slept well last night. After you left with Gaara, he was distraught and restless after what happened. We ended up giving him your dosage of the sleeping medicine and he didn’t experience any sleep terrors.”
“That’s terrific!” she exclaimed, almost jumping for joy in her excitement. This was exciting news. If they could eliminate the terrors, then Isao would be okay. Maybe he could stop taking the medicine once his body adjusted.
“Satou, his father, however,” Mako began as they made their way back towards the center table towards Sasuke. “Well—he’s a bit hysterical in the hospital. The man definitely needs to be there, but we are not quite sure what to do for him. He’s actually the reason I came looking for you. I figure you might be the only one able to talk to him.”
Sakura nodded as they came to a stop and she set her items down. “I see.”
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Sasuke had been thoroughly pissed when Sakura had announced to him her plans and handed him the bundle of paper-wrapped yellow flowers. “Will you grind these up for me while I quickly check-in on a patient? They should be dry enough on their own. We need to mix this in with the rest of our batch as soon as possible.”
The Uchiha nodded with a “hm” but had half a mind to shove the flowers and grinder toward Mako since he was inclined to be so damn helpful.
Apparently, she was duty-bound to go see some hospital patient with an attitude problem and Sasuke had guessed easily who it was. After seeing the bruises on her chest last night, it was hard not to think about this patient of hers. It settled like a knife between Sasuke’s shoulder blades as he began to pulverize the flowers in the mortar with the stone pestle. He glowered after the two medics as the door to the greenhouse swung to a shut behind them.
Sasuke knew that Sakura was aware of his eagerness to get the pills so he could return to his mission. And because she predicted this, Sasuke knew without a doubt that Sakura had played him. She had given him this little job to keep him occupied for a few minutes because he couldn’t put the task off. But what shedidn’t know was that it certainly wouldn’t take him as long as she hoped. Sasuke removed another heap of flowers from the paper and began to smash them forcefully.
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
Sakura had managed to come up with a small plan in the few seconds after Mako had informed her about Satou, Isao’s hysterical father, whom Sakura and Gaara had placed under the care of the hospital yesterday. The first and most necessary part of her plan was to keep Sasuke busy and away from her patient. After seeing her teammate’s reaction to the small bruises on her chest last night, she didn’t want the two ninja to have the least bit of interaction.
The second part was to ensure that Isao was kept far, faraway from his father. If the child was showing any progress at all after having distance from him, then Sakura would be damned if Satou meant to screw that up. Trailing closely behind her, Mako confirmed her hope that Isao remained at the mental health children’s clinic and was being strictly supervised.
Finally, the last rocky bit of her plan was to try her best to remain calm and civil with Satou despite what she predicted his treatment of her would be. Sakura anticipated every bit of an angry temper and possibly aggression.
Having Mako with her made Sakura feel more reassured. In the back of Sakura’s mind, she knew she didn’t have anything to worry about because she could rely on her abilities as a ninja, not his, but it was still a comfort to have him with her as a steady, supportive presence.
When they finally reached Satou’s hospital room and they entered, Sakura gasped. Apparently, Satou had considered this place a prison cell rather than a patient room. The bed was tipped, and the curtain torn from the rod above the windows. The massive punched out crevices in the walls around them were threatening portraits of warning. Sakura heard Mako echo her surprise. Sensing their presence, Satou turned from the window and glowered at them.
“Glad to see my warden has finally come to see me,” the man spat viciously.
While Mako’s expression was one of disbelief, Sakura erased the emotion from her own, slipping on a blank pretense. Forget step three of her plan, then. It was obvious what kind of man Satou was. He had no respect or care in the world for anyone and her kindness would be seen as a weakness to bully her for. Pretending to be civil would be an entire waste of her time because Sakura recognized the hate in Satou’s eyes, glassy pools that reflected the darkness in his heart. How bitter it made Sakura—to see Sasuke’s formal self in one of her patients; how hopeless this conversation would be even though he was the one person who needed it the most.
Sakura believed this man deserved her gentlest persona, but Sakura had tried playing this game before and failed miserably with Sasuke. If Sakura—a former teammate and close friend—couldn’t have reached into the depth of Sasuke’s darkness and rip him from it, then how could she expect to be successful with an absolute stranger? She thought of Naruto and Gaara and how they might approach this. Adopting Naruto’s methods before, Sakurahad fought Sasuke to knock some sense into him, but Sakura couldn’t just go starting fights with her patients.
Confidence then. Sakura crossed her arms behind her back and raised her chin. “I’m not your warden; just someone who is trying to help you and your son.”
He began to laugh—that psychotic pitch that set Sakura’s heart racing. It frightened her to see that this man was more lost than she had thought. This wasn’t just a man who had taken his anger out on his son. “That’s what pisses me off the most about you leaf village filth. You think you have the right to march in and do as you please.”
Mako responded before Sakura could silence him, “Be careful what you say. Haruno-san is an honored guest of the Lord Kazekage and he asked for her assistance at the hospital.”
Well half true. I did invite myself here I suppose. Sakura didn’t correct Mako; Satou was completely prejudiced toward Konoha and its citizens. She reminded herself to steer clear of the political past between their two villages. Satou’s next comment brought an immediate halt to Sakura’a analytical approach to reasoning with him.
“You’d think the Kazekage wouldn’t give his whores a false sense of entitlement in village they don’t belong in.”
It was hard to contain her inner voice at that moment, who happened to be screaming loudly. WHO THE HELL DOES THIS BASTARD THINK HE IS?
Sakura let out a calming breath and put hand on Mako’s arm who was surprisingly doing a good enough job for the both of them at giving this terrifying ninja a piece of his mind despite the aptitude gap.
Before she could respond, the door opened and someone stepped in. Seeing Sasuke momentarily took her aback because that powder job should have taken him at least 45 minutes to complete, yet here he was a mere 10 minutes after being assigned the task. He must have a question.
And then Sakura saw his face. A red and purple combination flashed towards Satou and Sakura’s stomach dropped to her feet. Had he just heard what Satou called her?
When Sakura reached him and placed a hand on his arm, his gaze snapped from Satou and landed on her. “Did you need something?” she asked kindly, assessing the situation and deciding to act casually. Maybe if she came off as unaffected by Satou’s comment, then Sasuke wouldn’t feel the need to react.
“Here,” he responded gruffly after recovering some composure, shoving the mortar she had given him earlier towards the space between them. “You said you needed this quickly didn’t you? Go on ahead and make the batch. I’ll talk to this guy.”
Sakura briefly savored the startled look on Satou’s face before turning her body towards Sasuke so she could whisper in private with her teammate. “Sasuke, I don’t think that’s—”
“It’s fine,” he softened his murmur to match her whisper. As he said this, his sharingan faded and his emotionless mask slipped back on. “Just a talk between ninja.”
“I think it’s a great idea,” came Mako’s eager voice behind her, “I’ll stay too. You go on ahead and make that batch before time runs out.”
Sakura snapped her head towards him, shaking her head with large eyes in silent begging, but Sasuke was the one who spoke. “I didn’t ask you to stay. You can leave too.”
“He stays,” Sakura volunteered, to which Sasuke glowered at her for. “A doctor must be present during an exam, after all.” This was most definitely not professional, but Sakura had used a “time” excuse to keep Sasuke busy earlier. Mako knew as well as she did that it didn’t matter what time the Ashuwa was added to the mixture, and he was using her lie against her. She didn’t know her friend of a medic could be manipulative like that. Mako knew she didn’t want to tell Sasuke that she had fibbed about it.
Grabbing the mortar, Sakura peered up into the Uchiha’s eyes, reconsidering her fear of the two ninja meeting. If Naruto or Gaara weren’t here, maybe Sasuke was the next best person to talk to him. Now that he had come back to the light, perhaps Sasuke could reach Satou in a way that Sakura wouldn’t be able to. Sometimes people who had experienced trauma would only listen to someone who had shared a similar pain. And it had been proven to her throughout the years that sometimes only monsters could understand monsters.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Sasuke waited until Sakura’s footsteps receded far enough down the hall before his eyes locked onto Satou for the second time.
“Uchiha. Uchiha Sasuke isn’t it?” Satou inquired, daring to speak first. “I never would have guessed I’d ever see your face again after the war.”
“Good. You know me.” Sasuke announced, fully entering the space and leaning against the right-most wall, just fifteen feet away from Satou in this small room. “Then you’re aware of the terrible things that I have done to better men than you.” To be honest, Sasuke hated to play the reputation card—in fact, he wanted to get as far from his past as possible, but he needed this bastard to know just exactly what he could still do to someone that pushed him far enough.
He noticed Mako shift excitedly at the left of the entrance. Apparently Mako was hoping for a show. Good, Sasuke thought, he needed to hear this too if the male physician had future plans to stay next to his friend.
Sasuke got straight to it. “The truth is that you’re not going to listen to anyone, so this is going to be a waste of time and breath.” Sasuke knew because he had been in this exact same frame of mind before.
“So why bother staying?” the man spat, rage leaking from his mouth like saliva from a rabid beast. Sasuke was correct in his analogy. Like Sasuke himself had once been, Satou was nothing more than a creature that there was no hope left for, and it needed to be taken out of this world. That’s what Gaara had practically told Naruto to do—take Sasuke out and do the right thing as his friend. It’s what Sakura had tried to do and failed.
But Naruto had done the impossible. With memories of his friend in his heart, Sasuke sighed and willed himself to put at least a little bit of effort into this for his friends’ benefit.
“For the sake of the woman you just called a whore. I care more about her and her goal than the few minutes I could be doing something more beneficial than talking to you.” Of course, he would never tell her that.
Sasuke felt like there was no point in beating around the bush. His voice would give out if he continued talking at this rate. He reminded himself that he didn’t owe any explanation, any psychological nonsense, just the cold truth that Satou needed to hear. Despite how hard he might try, Sasuke wouldn’t be able to pull this off like Naruto. Naruto would have marched up to him like a bull, grabbed his collar, proceed to threaten him for saying such a thing to Sakura, and then somehow miraculously convince this man to change.
Sasuke on the other hand, was less predictable. Depending on which part of his life you looked at, Sasuke could have had several reactions to Satou’s comment. The Sasuke before Orochimaru would have been angry but level-headed, at most offering the man an analytical glare. Sasuke immediately post-cursemark would have gutted him in the same mania he had broken that sound ninja’s arms in the Forest of Death. Vengeance-bent Sasuke would have completely not cared at all. But the Sasuke he was now? Even though he was on his path of redemption now, something in him had become honed again, sharpened along with the internal acknowledgement that he had feelings for Sakura. Despite his accepting of the truth, Sasuke hadn’t anticipated feeling this defensive and this is what scared Sasuke the most about himself—his unpredictability.
When Sasuke had tried to sever his bonds, it was to eliminate the feelings that came with them. He had seen it as a weakness. If his attachments were few, then Sasuke could remain loyal to a way of life he hoped for, one of peace. But having Sakura near again and feeling responsible for her had Sasuke fearing for the worst about his character. He had relayed this concern to Naruto before he left the village several weeks ago. “What will keep me from the darkness? From choosing the path of revenge?” “I will,” Naruto had responded. “I’ll stop you.” If men like this were regular in Sakura’s life, how could Naruto guarantee that Sasuke wouldn’t snap one day and kill every single person who threatened to do her harm? What if one of them succeeded? Could Naruto prevent everything? Stop, Sasuke told himself. Stop thinking like that.
Satou didn’t laugh again for the entire conversation. He remained standing by the window, narrowing his eyes at Sasuke in wary consideration since the Uchiha had arrived—not scared necessarily, but an enemy weighing his odds and deciding to avoid major triggers. Smart, Sasuke thought. Not completely brain dead then.
As Sasuke was consumed in silent thought, Mako stepped in for him. It was the first time all day Sasuke liked the medic. “We know that your wife died. Is that the reason you are abusing your son?”
Unlike with Sasuke, Satou revealed his temper, like a bomb going off without warning. “WHAT I DO WITH MY SON IS NOBODY’S DAMN BUSINESS BUT MY OWN.”
Unaffected by the sudden rise in volume, Sasuke surveyed the damaged room around them. Satou sure made it look like he was being held against his will, but the truth was, Sasuke realized, that if Satou had truly wanted to leave, he would have. There was nobody physically stopping him from leaving. The only thing really holding him here was Gaara’s command. Ah, so that was it. Badmouth the Kazekage all he wanted, Satou still respected one thing and that was power.
Sasuke tested the theory with, “The Kazekage believes it is his business.”
“Everything is apparently his damn business,” Satou growled in his direction.
Sasuke immediately noted that this was not a shouted response like he did when Mako spoke. Sasuke deduced that Satou held enough respect for the people he feared. That included himself. Damn. How annoying; Sasuke was going to have to do all the talking after all. To be honest, Sasuke had just wanted to remove Sakura from the situation and came up with the “talking” part to get Sakura to leave. Now, he supposed he would have to deliver.
Mako tried reasoning with him again: “Does the child remind you of your wife? Is that the reason you mistreat him?”
Satou’s eyes grew wide at Mako’s question. “HOW DARE YOU-“
Forget it. Talking like this was getting them nowhere. Sasuke’s visual prowess was nowhere near restored, but what Sasuke planned to do wouldn’t take up much chakra anyway. This wasn’t his typical style, but trying to talk with this man sure as hell wasn’t his style either. Sasuke revealed the black tomoes of his right Sharingan, instantly immobilizing the man where he stood.
“What are you doing?” Mako asked with concern, walking up beside him. “You’re not going to use a genjutsu?!”
“Just shut up and stay out of it,” Sasuke announced in annoyance. “I am getting the answers.”
Satou’s mind was a black, fiery wasteland that Sasuke stepped out on. The ninja’s memories appeared before him like colorless corpses rising from the grave. Sasuke walked forward toward the past surveying memories in order from most recent to oldest. The first memory that shaped in the air before him had Sasuke considering deactivating the jutsu. Whether he had subconsciously looking for this memory or not, Sasuke didn’t know, but he watched it play out before him. His pink-haired teammate was standing her ground, glaring up into the face of the man whose memories Sasuke violated. Sasuke frowned in hatred at the image of his fingers jabbing into her chest. Satou was looking down at her with a ferocity that he had yet to display towards anyone else. Why?
On cue, another memory emerged, connected to this one and providing Sasuke with the answer he wanted. It was during the war and Satou was immobilized on a cot, bandaged and regaining consciousness. Pink hair came into the ninja’s vision as he tried to roll to the side. “Miss,” he called toward the female ninja. “Where am I?”
“Stay still,” Sakura ordered him, pushing him back down on the cot. “Your leg is severely injured and needs to remain immobile.” She began giving orders to her assistants when a boom suddenly sounded somewhere nearby. Satou watched as she got to her feet and headed in that direction as someone began screaming her name.
“My wife,” he croaked, trying again to rise. This time, no one stopped him as he began to fumble towards the line of patients, some unconscious, others screaming. “Rina,” he sobbed, searching the faces of the incapacitated. “Where are you?”
He finally found her in the back row and he began limping faster toward her. “Rina!” he screamed, falling to his knees beside the woman who was bloody almost beyond recognition. Sasuke looked away from the memory as Satou began searching with hands for the wound on her body. Somehow the woman had reopened her injury and was now bleeding through the bandaging. When Satou found it, he began to moan. Satou clutched onto his broken wife and lifted her despite his leg. He was barely able to support her as he began limping back toward the medical professionals. “Haruno!” he tried to shout after the woman who had disappeared in the rising clouds of debris and dust. “Haruno!”
When a medic finally arrived to assist him, it wasn’t the one Satou had hoped for. “Please,” he begged them. “She’s dying—bleeding out!”
Sasuke saw the man’s world shatter on his face when the medic began to shake his head after checking the woman’s pulse. “I am sorry sir. She’s already gone.”
“No!” he began to scream, picking up his wife again and limping after the woman he believed could still save her. The memory ended after Satou disappeared into the rubble screaming after someone he clearly never found.
So that was it, Sasuke realized, stepping toward a new memory that materialized in the swirling darkness. He blamed Sakura for his wife’s death.
The next memory Sasuke played was Satou returning from the war and staring into the face of the child he and his wife had left behind. Sasuke was shocked at the resemblance the child held of Rina; Sasuke witnessed Satou experience the blow of pain that came at seeing the same likeness. When the child reached for him with tears in his eyes, Satou turned away from him, covering his anguished face and stepping past the threshold. Isao’s current caretaker reached for him to relieve his father’s neglect.
Sasuke felt like he had ashes in his mouth. He was more familiar with grief than anyone, but grief affected people in different ways. Sasuke both understood and didn’t understand. He didn’t dare go further; Sasuke knew what happened next concerning the child and didn’t want to see it for himself.
Deactivating his Sharingan, Sasuke withdrew from the black backdrop of Satou’s mind.
“What did you just do?” Satou asked, sinking to the floor on his knees and holding his head, an aftereffect that had Mako looking between the two ninja in fearful concern.
Sasuke saw no point in explaining to either of them. Satou was more than aware of what just happened. “I could erase a couple of those memories,” Sasuke explained to the whimpering man on the floor who gazed up at him in anger. “Is that what you want?”
Satou hesitated before saying, “You could really do that?”
“Is that what you really want?” Sasuke asked bitterly, “for someone to reach into your mind and take away all memory of your wife or child? To dishonor the both of them?”
“No,” Satou declared at that. “Not if it will remove them from my memory. The pain— just take that away.”
“Pain is a part of life and not something I can tamper with,” Sasuke deadpanned. “If you let it, your pain will turn into darkness, consume you, and taint every aspect of your life. Your son is the only thing you have left of your wife. You should value that and cling to that as your light.”
Sasuke understood what Sakura meant earlier when she told Sasuke her conversation with Gaara about the past generation affecting the next with their toxicity. Satou didn’t repond and Sasuke didn’t say anything else. He had said what he needed to although it left the Uchiha feeling like a hypocrite.
Turning to Mako, Sasuke declared, “Send the son to the Leaf’s mental health clinic; get him as far away as you can. The child needs to be in a different environment, or he will turn out like father. It’ll give Satou some time to reconsider what’s important to him.”
Opening the door, Sasuke thought twice before exiting. “Also,” he remarked to the man who began to sob on the ground. “The next time you lay your hands on my friend, you’ll have me to deal with, not the Kazekage.”
Satou began to scream in anger, throwing things against the walls again. The door swung shut behind Sasuke and Mako, closing the prisoner in his self-made cell.

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day One Hundred Eighteen: At the Top ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: A Light Amongst Shadows ] [ AO3 Link ]
They say it’s lonely at the top.
From the night he lost them, all Sasuke had ever wanted was justice for his family. At first, that meant killing Itachi. The man - boy - he’d assumed was the one solely responsible for the genocide of their entire clan...save for the two brothers themselves. One the perpetrator, the other...the lone survivor.
Of course, the truth turned out to be so much more convoluted than that.
For nearly a decade, Sasuke trained every spare moment. Drove his tiny body to its limits no matter the weather, the circumstances, the odds. He had but one purpose. One goal. It consumed his every thought, pushing everything else to the wayside. He had no time for bonds, friends, memories. He couldn’t rest - couldn’t stop - until he was at the top. Only when he became the best could he stand a chance against his elder brother...and finally put the souls of his massacred brethren to rest.
So...yes, it was lonely, even then.
His Academy classmates were background noise. Shadows in the corners of his vision he had no reason, no inkling to turn and see. All that drew his gaze was the task laid out before him.
Some tried to reach him. Sakura with shallow affection. Naruto with boasting rivalry. And later Kakashi with his cryptic warnings. He...indulged in them for a time. But as twisted as his intentions were, Orochimaru’s intervention reminded him of his true purpose. He had no time for genin games, or bothering with the shinobi ranking system. Naruto, it was clear, was gaining on him...him, a prodigy, being approached by a knucklehead dead-last!
If someone as lowly as Naruto could threaten him...then he’d stand no chance against Itachi.
So he’d accepted the serpent’s offer: made a deal with the devil. In the end, to him, it didn’t matter where the power came from, or at what price. All that mattered was, before his own dying day, Itachi would face his, at his own hand. Sasuke would end the life of the boy - man - he’d once admired so...adored, and gazed after jealously for their father’s attention.
A father they no longer had...and it was all Itachi’s fault…!
The snake sannin’s training had been effective...if not irritating. His obvious lust for the Uchiha blood in Sasuke’s veins was like an itch in a place he couldn’t reach. Add in Kabuto’s thinly-veiled envy, the hatred (and later fear) from many of Orochimaru’s other underlings, and the constant moving about between lairs, and Sasuke was fed up by the time they were discovered by his own team.
...he’d truly felt nothing, seeing them again.
Sakura had never really loved him. She loved the idea of him. The idea without his faults, his traumas, his reality. Her affection sickened him. And Naruto...he still couldn’t see what Naruto wanted from him. Surely the Uzumaki had most of what he himself had desired since young. Acknowledgement, friendship...he was no longer alone. Why the fixation on Sasuke? Just because they had similarities didn’t mean they couldn't ever be apart. It irritated him like nothing else.
He’d almost killed Naruto on a whim.
From there, things began to change yet again. Sasuke found himself more and more bored with Orochimaru’s antics...and soon decided he had no further need for the serpent. Killing his main body hadn’t been the end of him, of course...but it removed a thorn in his side.
...and it was satisfying. As well as a mark of his level.
Hebi was assembled from the most sensical parts. Even if, in some ways, they reminded him of his old squad. Karin’s obnoxious affections were on par with - perhaps even worse than - Sakura’s. Despite his obvious disinterest - and later blatant disregard - she continued to fawn over him. Foolish. Suigetsu’s needling and humor were a bit reminiscent of Naruto. But at least Suigetsu had wit.
Jūgo...well, Jūgo was decent company when not on a rampage. All else aside, Sasuke might’ve considered him a friend.
But in the end, they were a means to an end. He’d protect them as long as necessary, but...when push came to shove, little more mattered than Itachi. Everything else, in his eyes, was disposable.
And then, it happened. The longest, most physically-straining battle of his life...against Itachi. The last thing standing in his way before reaching sweet, sweet justice for the clan.
...or...so he thought.
Awaking from the darkness, Sasuke was told the truth: Itachi’s truth. Konoha’s truth. His clan’s truth.
And so began a new leg of his journey: revenge against the council that had issued the order...and the village that had been allowed to live on in peace at the cost of nearly every drop of Uchiha blood. And not just those lost to Itachi’s blade...no. There’d been many, many more before that. A system of oppression spanning generations...that he would put to an end.
He would bring it all to an end.
Fighting Danzō hadn’t been easy...but in the end, he’d forced the councilman’s hand. Then there was yet another reunion with his team...after sacrificing one of the others. Konoha, of course, took Karin with them. Sasuke, frustrated with his limits, accepted his brother’s eyes.
Then came healing.
Then...came the war.
He’d stumbled upon Itachi completely by accident. Demanded answers. Agreed to wait until Kabuto was dealt with. And even then, Itachi’s genius and pacifism shone through as he both defeated...and spared Orochimaru’s old underling. Claimed to still be loyal to Konoha. And then...vanished back into the afterlife.
And left Sasuke with more questions than answers...answers he’d pry from the previous Hokage themselves. Among which was Hashirama. Madara’s closest friend, and greatest enemy.
...the parallels between them, and Naruto and Sasuke, were striking...and irritating.
In the end, they’d convinced him. He and the others joined the war...and Sasuke learned his destiny. One he fulfilled alongside Naruto, and the rest of Team Seven.
Then came his plans to wipe the slate clean...and for the last time, Naruto stood in his way.
For the first - and last - time...Sasuke admitted he’d been defeated.
But there was still so much to be answered for. So much to learn, to see, to judge. He planned to do it all, but...Life had other plans for him.
And for his brother.
Which meant returning - however begrudgingly - to Konoha...and Sasuke’s decision to make it, and it alone, his ultimate project. He would take the shell of the village - hollowed with the loss of the council - and shape it into something better...but how?
His return was, admittedly...lonely. He wanted nothing - at first - to do with his team. They’d wounded him too badly. Too deeply. Time, and much of it, would be needed before he even tried to tend to it. The rest of his agemates were wary of him...and for good reasons. He had his past to atone for...and he was at the top of the shinobi world. Only Naruto could hope to hold a candle to him.
At first, he didn’t mind the loneliness. He has those few last scraps of family. But then...he met someone different. Or rather...met her again.
They say it’s lonely at the top, but...well, maybe he wouldn’t be quite so lonely after all.
Just a lil introspective piece from Sasuke's POV. I tend to...exaggerate Sasuke's loneliness when I write him. I write him more seriously, without as much focus on Team Seven. Cuz honestly...they'd have been a distraction for him, and I think even in canon he did his best not to get too dragged into it. Same with Hebi / Taka. Sasuke was too driven - too focused - to really bond with someone like that, imo. Hence why his ship doesn't happen until AFTER all is said and done. When has the headspace to do so. Idk, I'm very tired and sick and blegh. Thanks for reading, lol

Once Again (SasuHina)
Disclaimer! I do not own Naruto! This is my first ever one-shot, so I hope you like it! Please no flames!
Hinata stood under the rain as she stared at the ground with a solemn expression. She had confessed to Naruto and had patiently for his answer, but she didn't get any, in fact his announcement today was like a big rejection shoved on her face. Was she unworthy of even being answered to directly? Was she so pathetic that she didn't deserve to hear an answer? She knew she was a burden; she always knew since she was a child.
She desperately wanted to be acknowledged, to be praised by someone she had tried so hard for. She bit her bottom lip as she walked home head down as her tears mixed up with the rain. The sky cried with her but that didn't soothe the ache in her heart. She had always hoped to be noticed or perhaps be given the chance of being answered to directly. A wave of defeat and sorrow washed over her as she began to tremble due to her muffled sobs and the cold.
"If I acted more like Sakura, would I get the acknowledgement that I've always wanted?" She sobbed, falling on her knees. She was so deep in her own world that she hadn't realized that a person stood in front of her, holding an umbrella to shield her from the downpour.
"You would go that far for that dobe?" a familiar voice questioned startling Hinata. She looked up and saw Sasuke before her before she dropped her head and kept quiet.
"He wouldn't understand." She thought as she trembled, her vision blurring as her tears formed. "He wouldn't understand the feeling of being looked down upon by people. To be a burden." She clenched her fist before she stood up, wobbling a bit. She mumbled an apology before she walked past the Uchiha who scowled at her actions.
"Damn women and their moods. Tch." He glanced at the retreating figure of the Hyuuga before making his way back home. He needed to sleep this headache off, but he also had other plans before he retires for the night.
The next day, Sasuke woke up feeling refreshed and he let out a sigh before taking a shower. He opened the refrigerator and saw nothing but a lone tomato. He grumbled as he closed the fridge before shoving his hand in his pocket before stepping out of the Uchiha compound to see the Hyuuga from last night crouching down and face buried in her arms. Slightly taken aback from the sight and slightly happy to see her first thing in the morning, he kicked the Hyuuga as gently as he could, which mind you was not very gentle considering his short fuse. Hinata jerked awake and squeaked as she looked up at the scowling Uchiha who loomed over her.
"Huh? What are you doing in front of the compound…?" Hinata's words died as she finally saw where she was. "Wait why am I here?" She squeaked and looked at the Uchiha in horror. She started stuttering like a madwoman and tried to explain herself. Sasuke was not a fan of loud noises especially this early so instead of being amused to see the Hyuuga sputtering her nonsensical excuses it made him scowl even more. He glared at her which made her shut up and squeak in fright.
Sasuke couldn't help but internally frown at the sight of the Hyuuga cowering under him in fear and a twinge of pity and guilt sparked in his heart as he took in the appearance of the woman in front of the Uchiha compound. Her clothes was a mess and so was her hair and upon closer inspection, her eyes were puffy and red.
"You cried yourself dry because of Naruto." He blurted out bluntly causing the Hinata to flinch at the blonde's name. He pinched the bridge of his nose before he harshly grabbed her arm and pulled her, albeit too roughly but since Hinata was quite frightened, she couldn't really try to escape unless she would rather get killed by a ticking time bomb named Sasuke Uchiha. Well if she was murdered, would anyone care? Probably not. A smile tugged her lips. Sasuke who caught the sight felt a sense of familiarity from the expression.
Self-pity and resignation.
How many times has he seen that same expression when he was a child? Looking back, probably most of his childhood reflections looked exactly like that. How long has she been making that kind of expression?
Sasuke had to wonder because he sensed no hatred nor anger nor resentment oozing from her. He remembered her as that selfless woman who tried to put on a show to look like she's fine when she's probably dying inside. Sasuke never considered himself a hero but looking at that expression that mirrored his past expressions except the hatred, he decided he would be her hero.
Although he did betray the village just because he bore that hatred, anger, and resentment towards his brother, he didn't want that same thing to happen. Yes, he usually he was an absolute jerk, but this woman clearly does not possess that kind of over-the-top trait that he held. Sasuke shoved the self-pitying Hinata on the couch bringing her back to earth. He plopped on the spot beside her.
"You know, you took care of me back then and I always tried to get rid of you by any means possible." He started breaking the tense silence. "I admit, I pushed you away when we became closer because I was afraid."
Hinata remained quiet as she let the former avenger lead the conversation. "I hate seeing you like this." He said bluntly catching Hinata off guard.
"What?" She stuttered as she felt her heart rate increase. She admitted to herself that she had grown to love the Uchiha back when she was still his 'caretaker' and they spent a lot of time together. He took care of her just like how she took care of him but after the mission has been completed, Sasuke closed himself off once more and pushed Hinata away causing her to be heartbroken. From then on, they rarely spoke to each other.
"Hyuuga!" Hinata squeaked as the Uchiha snapped at her. "Were you even listening?"
Hinata blushed and looked at her lap in shame. "I'm sorry, can you repeat that?" She asked softly.
"I said, would you give me a chance to court you once again?" He repeated bluntly; a light blush dusted his cheeks while Hinata who processed what he meant became beet red. He did have to thank that Hinata was not paying attention because all he did was sputter nonsensical things to get his point across. A tense silence prevailed in the space between them before Hinata let out a chuckle.
"I never took you as one who is romantic man, Sasuke." She replied stuttering slightly. She heaved out a sigh before she looked at him with a small smile. "But of course, I will."
Sasuke's breath got caught in his throat before he instinctively leaned down, pressing his lips against hers giving her a chaste kiss.
"I just hope that this won't be our last kiss again." He muttered before capturing her lips once again. The two spent the rest of the day together comfortably with a side of make out sessions from time to time.
I'm planning on writing an actual full on fanfic for this one and i actually took it from that very fanfic I'm trying to work on. I'm sorry if it was confusing. If I manage to finish the fanfic where this is based on, you'll understand it a lot more! Please do leave reviews and I hope you liked it!

Do you think Naruto and Sasuke would be a good couple if Naruto apologized to him for being selfish (not for the sake of ending the series with romance, but in general)? If Naruto stopped defending Konoha and went travelling with him? Because I would love them together if that happened. Also, do you think Naruto was redeemable (before Boruto)?
Honestly, this was one of my favorite questions. I have to answer all of these the long way, so I genuinely hope you don’t mind that, anonymous.
Do I think Naruto and Sasuke would be a good couple if Naruto apologized to Sasuke for being selfish?
Yes. Absolutely.
I want to make clear that I don’t ship them [romantically] but I fully support / acknowledge the development between them that could’ve been [seen as] romantic.
I think the result of this would make Naruto a two dimensional character.
So what exactly should he apologize for?
Naruto needs to apologize to Sasuke for being inconsiderate about bringing him back to the village.
How should Naruto word his apology [that’ll make it genuine while still in character]?
“[Sasuke..] I..see now that I never understood you at all. To think that all this time I thought of the village as [our] home, but to you it was a graveyard. You carried around this anger, this hatred, this agony..alone, you had to bear the weight of all that pain for this long. [Sasuke..] I may not understand what you went through, but I now understand why you deflected the village. I understand, Sasuke, that your pain couldn’t be resolved by simply returning to the village..and I’m so sorry..that you had to face all of this alone. I’m so sorry that I could do nothing..not even shoulder any of this pain for you..so you wouldn’t have to suffer alone..”
Notice that he doesn’t victimize or invalidate Sasuke either, he admits his faults and misunderstandings.
How would [in character] Sasuke respond?
I highly doubt Sasuke would [verbally] respond, being as it’s not a side of Naruto he has ever seen before. He knows Naruto as a loud mouthed knuckle head that constantly boasts about himself. This would put Sasuke in a position to realize that Naruto is not the same person he once knew and in this context that is actually a good thing.
How would that [apology] affect their relationship / dynamic?
Relationship - In total honesty, I don’t see much changing about them as individuals being in a [romantic] relationship; Sasuke would still have the trauma of his childhood and the trust issues deeply embedded and Naruto although showing a genuine side outside of his own morals/perspective, I still see having a lot to learn and having unyielding patience would be key with Sasuke.
Dynamic - As a team, I think the most it would impact is their communication. Naruto understanding the trauma Sasuke faced as a child would entice him to likely want to learn about Sasuke’s past. It would be easier for Sasuke to speak about his family / clan without lingering animosity or misunderstandings. I say that because before the apology it’s clear that Sasuke keeps a thick line between sharing information regarding his family and others. We can widdle it down to [only] trust issues, but I’ve always assumed it’s because Naruto simply doesn’t understand familial bonds so Sasuke never brings them up. With the apology though, I see Sasuke slowly opening up about his family over time. It’s not much, but it’s something and that’s significant in their dynamic.
How do you feel about Naruto traveling with Sasuke?
There’s no beating about the bush with this answer in all honesty; I wholeheartedly support these two going on adventures together.
Why it would be a damn good idea:
Through Naruto / Naruto Shippuden, we only ever see Naruto as the “righteous” mighty character and everyone that was “against” Konoha / Their Shinobi System were seen as enemies. Naruto views the Konoha village in such high regards that we as the viewer have no other option but to view it that way as well. However, like the average intelligent viewers that we are, we see every single fault Konoha Village has. Naruto seeing this for himself, from an outside perspective, would be unintentionally hilarious and embarrassing.
1.) Naruto that would learn the most about the world and other villages. Sasuke already understands, that’s why he vowed to change the system because he saw civilization outside of Konoha.
2.) It would be an interesting character arc for both of them, because you’d see over time how it affects them mentally and emotionally.
3.) Seeing Naruto and Sasuke learning the ways of different villages would be crucial and critical for both world building and story progression.
*(off topic but I need to do some comparison here)*
In The Legend of Sinbad (the Magi series) Sinbad travels between various nations and islands. On those journeys he encounters many different people of many different backgrounds and beliefs. Sinbad adapts to all of these different characters backgrounds as well as respects them. In turn for learning the way THEY do things, he’s able to mold/build his own civilization by learning the customs of those he surrounds himself with.
That’s why I believe not only would this benefit the story, but it would benefit Naruto as a character. His entire moral code is based around helping others, he should start by gathering information on the outside villages and learning their shinobi systems.
Naruto’s core philosophy throughout the story is to achieve world peace once he becomes the Hokage. There’s nothing wrong with this unless you consider the fact that Naruto has only ever lived within his own village and knows only three of the five great nations, and they are only places he’s been to/heard about.
So although this would be enlightening for both characters, it would be the most beneficial for Naruto.
Do I think Naruto was redeemable [before Boruto]?
Short answer: Yes, I believe Naruto was redeemable. Only up to the beginning of the War Arc.
However, here’s why:
Naruto’s character suffered major, catastrophic writing flaws towards the middle of the War Arc. Things went south quick once the whole God powers were introduced and aliens who were ninjas and—you catch my drift, I hope.
So before all of that, I’d like to consider Naruto was a plausibly decent written character. Putting aside all the writing hiccups and disregarding his selfishness, he was definitely a character that could’ve had a more fitting end/better justification for what he became in Boruto.
In defense of his characterization [throughout original and shippuden] his relationships with people is what carried the series for as long as it went on.
He was able to turn serial killer Gaara into everyone’s friendly neighborhood goth. He was able to bring Shikamaru out of his own shadow and became unbelievable great friends with him seemingly out of nowhere to be honest (seriously, did anybody ever see them interact nearly at all until Boruto? Anyone?) He was able to understand Killer Bee even though practically no one else could.
He was able to do so many things but it comes down to the bonds, ties and friendships that he made along his journey that makes up for some of the outright immature behavior he has.
However in Boruto his character sinks so far into The Sunken Place that I don’t even consider them to be the same character anymore. He’s long gone and I know he represents the “adult” in all of us, I find it hard to believe the guy that nearly had a heart attack over learning Sasuke was sought after to be killed, cried over the carcass of Gaara, swam through the memories of Obito and was able to defeat Nagato Uzumaki with talk-no-jutsu, wouldn’t understand the importance of family or maintaining bonds.
He never interacts with Sakura and they established a well developed friendship long before Boruto.
For someone who cried over Gaara, we never see them interacting once Shippuden ends.
At one point or another he at least spoke to Lee and now they don’t talk at all.
He was able to help Sai understand bonds and the two of them are seen together once and that’s about it.
Is it possible to redeem Naruto after the Boruto series?
No. Naruto cannot be redeemed after Boruto is because he’s an entirely different character with different objectives. To redeem Naruto in the Boruto series it would only be a fair comparison to exclude him from the original series. There is no excuse for him, Hokage or not, he’s simply not the same.

Sex Ed [5/5]
Blanket Fic Disclaimer
Prompt: Rereading chapter 19 of Unplanned, and I sorta want a story about the aftermath of Sarada accidentally crushing a partner during her first time because she didn't get Sakura's advice. Specifically, I want Sasuke's reaction. Him being confused and not knowing whether to be angrily protective or sympathetic. I think that has the potential to be hilarious.- Anon
Author’s Note: I had to change the injury a bit, and I didn’t get all of your prompt in this chapter, but if you’ve read the previous ones, parts of your request were in there too. There were a surprising amount of people who wanted to see Sarada’s sex mishaps, so I tried to get everyone’s request somewhere in the fic. I hope this (and the previous chapters) has been to your liking :)
Warning: In this universe, Sarada is bisexual, and her parents are very supportive of her, thank you very much.
First Chapter
“Are you going out?”
Sasuke pauses in the act of slipping into his shoes and glances up at Sakura, wandering down the hallway and buttoning her tunic the rest of the way up. “Yes. One of the officers at the police station says he found some of my family’s old files. He wanted to know if I wanted the hard copies.”
“Well that was nice of him. What are they, old case files?”
“I don’t know.”
“Well, call me if you need anything,” she tells him, and as usual there’s the implicit reminder that if it’s too hard for him to do on his own, she’ll be there in an instant. He nods, grateful, but doesn’t take her up on it.
“Since Sarada’s apartment is along the way, would you take her that basket of vegetables in the kitchen?” Sakura asks as she shrugs into her coat. “It’s all fresh from the garden. And you know what those girls are like. Leave them alone long enough, and they’ll live off of cup ramen and poki. I’d take it myself, but I’m already late, thanks to a certain someone.”
“You weren’t complaining an hour ago,” he answers mildly, but heads to the kitchen anyhow.
“I wasn’t late an hour ago,” Sakura replies, straining up on tiptoes to kiss his cheek. “I’ll see you tonight, if there are no world-ending crises.”
“Hm.”
They leave the house together and part ways on the street, Sakura heading to the hospital and Sasuke to the police station.
It’s been quieter around the house since Sarada moved out, even if she was never a really loud child to begin with. Barring her rough teenage years and occasional temper, she was rather like Sasuke as a teenager, but a lot less prone to vengeance fuelled vendettas. Sasuke misses having her around, even though she lives within walking distance.
It’s not exactly common place for young people to move in with roommates in the village (at least it wasn’t when he was younger; most people lived at home with their parents until they got married), and as much as he disliked the notion when Sarada brought it up, he has to admit that her having her own place has made their relationship better.
Much as she is the light of his life, there are certain aspects of their life together he doesn’t miss.
Such as dealing with awkward situations or information that a father should not be privy to when it comes to his daughter. He doesn’t have to worry about her safety, because Chōchō and Wasabi are just as brash and protective of Sarada as he is. And she hasn’t had another boyfriend in a year, which is also a relief.
None of them are good enough for her anyway, and if she intends to be Hokage, she shouldn’t have more distractions than necessary. She’s already going to have to work harder than before because Naruto is still a bit ticked off about his son’s broken penis. He and Sasuke have come to literal blows about the whole matter, considering Boruto was just as involved in causing that injury as Sarada was.
Eventually the dobe will get his head out of his ass about the whole thing; maybe if he spent more time at home with his family his kid would have known how not to get injured during sex.
As for Sasuke, without Sarada living at home, he and Sakura can have sex again whenever they want instead of waiting for their daughter to be away on a mission or at a friend’s house. He’d be lying if he hasn’t been waiting twenty years for a return to that status quo at least.
Logically speaking, there’s no downside to the arrangement.
When he reaches the apartment, he dutifully knocks and waits for a response; as far as he knows, Sarada isn’t scheduled for any missions this week so she should be home. Which is why he frowns when he doesn’t get a response.
Glancing at the basket in his hands, he considers for a moment just leaving it outside the door, but discards it a moment later. Any co-tenant or stray animal can get to it here, and he doesn’t like the idea of Sarada living off ramen any more than her mother does.
Naruto has had way too much influence on his daughter.
I’ll go through the window and put it in the kitchen, he decides, knowing this course of action won’t take but a minute.
It seems the most simple idea, and it’s nothing to slip into the kitchen and place the basket on the table. He considers leaving a note for a moment, and then—
“Oh, yes! Right there!”
Sasuke feels a chill like ice creep down his spine at his daughter’s voice echoing from the living room.
No. No, for fucks sake, this cannot be happening. No. Not again.
In a panic, he seeks an easy exit, at the same time castigating himself for such an amateur mistake. This isn’t a covert mission to steal documents, it’s a visit to his daughter’s place of residence. He should have called ahead. And knocked. And announced his presence.
Possibly with a bullhorn.
He’s about to make his escape, when the relative silence is broken by a familiar crack, followed by a girl’s sharp yell of pain.
“Wasabi?” Sarada cries a moment later. “Wasabi, are you alright?!”
“My hips…they…ow!” the other girl gasps. “And I can’t…can’t feel my legs. Ah, stop moving!”
“I’ll fix it, just let me get out from under—”
“No—ow! Don’t move—”
“I can’t help you when I’m lying on my back, just let me—”
“DON’T MOVE, IT HURTS!”
There’s a sharp, panting gasp of someone trying to breath through the pain.
Broken pelvis, Sasuke decides, wincing out of empathy. He’s had that particular injury before, and from similar circumstances. Except, lucky for him, he was on the bottom and it was the work of a minute for Sakura to fix it.
Speaking of…
“If I don’t move, we’re both going to be stuck here!”
“Stop…talking…!” the other girl growls through the pain. “It’s making it worse.”
Sasuke sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.
Why? Why is it always me? Why is Sakura never on hand when Sarada gets herself into situations like this?
A mental image pops up of his wife furiously reminding him of her miserable nine-month-morning sickness and a ruined vagina.
Oh. Right.
Though, personally he doesn’t know what she’s complaining about (he has no issues with her vagina as it is), he can acknowledge that she went through the most difficult bit of bringing their daughter into the world. Perhaps this is the universe’s way of balancing karma or something.
He considers this and thinks he might have preferred to be the one to give birth. At least then it would have been over with in less than a day…
“Fuck…”
There’s utter silence in the next room.
“…Dad?” The word is timid and questioning, hope mingled with humiliation. “Are you there?”
Thunk!
Sasuke lets his head fall against the hallway wall in defeat.
“Yes. I was dropping off vegetable from your mother,” he says eventually. “Do you need help?”
Panicked silence, the sound of Sarada whispering and Wasabi snaps, “Yes we want his help!”
Well, at least this one has sense. If they don’t break up over this incident, maybe she can teach his daughter some. “Are you both…decent?”
“Sarada, if you don’t get your old man in here now, I will bite through your jugular and—!”
The rest of the diatribe is cut off like a record hauled off the turntable; there’s rustling sound and then Sarada squeaks, “Come in.”
Cautiously, Sasuke peeks around the doorway to assess the situation.
The girls are still in a tangle of limbs, but Wasabi is unconscious—Genjutsu. Hmph. Well, at least she’s learned something—and a heavy burden draped across Sarada’s (mercifully hidden) body. His daughter has somehow managed to arrange a quilt and a discarded shirt to cover any flesh that he doesn’t want to see, but she’s still trapped underneath her—
Roommate? Girlfriend? Partner?
If he thinks about questions like that, he doesn’t have to focus too much on yet another embarrassing situation.
“We’ll move her carefully so as not to do any further damage,” Sasuke tells Sarada; decades of marriage to Sakura have taught him enough about fractures to be wary. Then he adds conversationally, “Have you considered becoming a monk?”
She scowls at him, blowing a lock of Wasabi’s hair out of her face. “Monks don’t have sex.”
“Exactly. And they lead perfectly fulfilling lives and don’t injure anyone.”
“Or you could tell me how you and mom have managed.”
“No,” Sasuke says immediately. That is a conversation for her and your mother, one which he doesn’t want to know if it ever happens or not. That is where he draws the line.
Yes, he gets the irony in that, considering he’s trying to carefully move his daughter’s – paramour? Lover?— off of said daughter without injuring her spine or any internal organs. But really, at this point, enough is enough.
“If I had my time back, I’d have insisted your mother train you in medical ninjutsu,” he tells her. “Clearly learning better chakra control would have benefitted you more than wielding a sword.”
“Very funny,” Sarada grumbles, tugging the quilt across her torso a little tighter as Sasuke starts to move the other woman off her. “I could always just date someone invulnerable. Then it wouldn’t be a problem.” She thinks about this for a moment, and then her face brightens in speculation. “Come to think of it, Mitsuki—”
“No,” Sasuke cuts her off, shifting the other girl enough that Sarada can get out and closing his eyes tight. “Now get dressed and help me stabilize her so we can get to the hospital.”
He hears her moving around the living room, grabbing articles of clothing; a second later, he senses her presence right beside him and then feels a quick peck on his temple.
“Thanks for rescuing me again, Dad,” she tells him solemnly, and then flounces from the room.
Sasuke just sighs.
It’s not easy being the ‘dad’…

A Public Affair, Part 2: Shikamaru
[fanfiction] NaruSasu
Cheating has consequences.
[Previous Parts]
Part 2 under the cut:
2: Shikamaru
Naruto came into the office looking frazzled. It reminded me of when we were kids, when every little thing that was going on in his head showed on his face.
“Can we have the room?” I said, eyeing the ANBU who were standing guard.
They both turned to Naruto, who nodded at them.
“We’ll be outside the door.”
Naruto flopped onto his chair and groaned.
“What?” I asked, cutting to the chase. I knew that I really didn’t want to hear what was about to come out of his mouth, but he needed to get it out. The thought of him unleashing it on someone else was not a good one.
“It’s bad,” Naruto said quietly.
I stared at him, waiting for him to continue.
“Ughhhh,” Naruto said, burying his face in his arms.
“Naruto, we have a lot to do today.”
Naruto peeked up at me. “Can’t you clear my schedule?”
“No.”
“Gaaaah,” Naruto said, leaning back in his chair again. “Shit, what am I gonna do?”
“I can’t really advise you when you haven’t given me the details.”
Naruto shot me a weary look, looking much more like the Seventh.
“What happened with Sasuke?” I asked, rubbing the bridge of my nose. I really didn’t want to know. Okay, a small part of me wanted to know. But it was just all so annoying to deal with, and we didn’t have time for it with the big summit coming up, and the unrest in the Land of Waves. Then there was the impossible task of getting Konohamaru ready for his inauguration within the next year. My plate was full, and I didn’t need more extra-marital Naruto and Sasuke drama to add to it.
“We made love!” Naruto finally said.
“You’ve been fucking for months.”
“Yes, fucking. We’ve been fucking. But last night. Oh my god, I can’t believe that happened.”
“What are you trying to say?”
“I’m saying that Sasuke and I made love. We even kissed. Oh my god, we kissed. With tongue and everything.”
“Finally,” I muttered.
“What do you mean, ‘finally’?!” Naruto cried, flailing around. “It was a mistake, a huge mistake, and it can’t ever happen again!”
“Naruto, just stop,” I said, shaking my head. “This has gone on long enough. You need to acknowledge that you are in love with Sasuke, and you are cheating on your wife.”
“What?!” Naruto cried, flailing even harder. “I’m not… I definitely don’t love that selfish bastard. I love Hinata! My wife! An actual woman! The love of my life! You know that. And we’re just… I mean, he’s really good at giving head, and he’s always offering, so… Well, no, it’s not what it sounds like! I’m not using him, I mean I do stuff for him, too. We mutually do stuff together. It’s not love-”
“You are in love with Sasuke, and you’re cheating on your wife.”
“Stop saying that! How many times do I have to explain-”
“Naruto.”
“I’m not cheating on Hinata, she’s my everything, and-”
“Naruto.”
“Sasuke is my friend, that’s all. Well, my best friend. But that’s all. All that other stuff… it’s just what guys do.”
I didn’t even have to say anything.
“What?” Naruto said, his lower lip sticking out in a pout that I probably hadn’t seen in 20 years.
“So how does that work, exactly?” I asked. “I say, ‘damn, Naruto, I’m really hard and I don’t feel like bothering Temari, so can you take care of this for me?’ And you say, ‘Yeah, of course, man, that’s what friends are for.’”
Naruto’s pout deepened into a sulk.
“Just admit-” I started to say, when there was a knock at the door.
“Come in!” Naruto said enthusiastically.
I frowned at him.
“What the hell is this crap about the Land of Waves?” Sasuke asked as he walked through the door.
Naruto froze.
“There’ve been a lot of rogue ninjas spotted there,” I said. “Seems like ninja-on-civilian crime has increased in proportion. We’re looking into why they’re gathering there.”
“And you’re just telling me this now because…?”
“We only got the report yesterday.”
“When am I headed out?”
We both turned to Naruto, who was still frozen.
“What’s with the stupid look, dobe? I asked you a question.”
“Oh, uh…” Naruto trailed off.
“Is it just me, or is he being stupider than usual?” Sasuke asked, glancing towards me.
“Can’t argue with that, I agreed.
“Shikamaru, get out,” Naruto said, finally finding his voice. “Please,” he added for good measure.
I stared both of them down before leaving. We had had one too many discussions about how the hokage’s desk was not an appropriate place for sexual activity.
“You’re the only person who busts in here without knocking,” Naruto had tried protesting after the fourth time I caught them in a compromising position.
“It won’t happen again,” Sasuke had interjected, and it hadn’t.
But something was in the air today, and they were either heading towards a big fight or another misappropriation of the hokage’s desk.
What had Naruto said earlier? ‘We made love.’ ‘We even kissed.’
I moved brusquely towards the conference room. Documents for the upcoming summit were spread across the table. I got to work going through them, all the while my mind was running through possible ways to deal with the Sasuke situation.
Naruto and Sasuke were part of the most intricate game of shogi that I had ever witnessed. The game had stretched out over the years, but Sasuke finally had Naruto in check. The next move could decide the game, and I had to decide if I needed to intervene.
“Shikamaruuuuuuu!”
I glanced up from my work as one of the interns came running in. “Yes?” I asked calmly.
“It’s the hokage and Uchiha Sasuke, sir!”
I sighed, putting down the folder in my hand and heading back to the office.
Sasuke was standing on one side of the room, his single arm resting against his chest in his updated version of the ‘cross arms, ignore Naruto’ pose.
Naruto stood on the other side of the room, an ANBU pinning him to the wall while he ranted and struggled and in general acted a damn fool.
“Hokage-sama,” I said, leveling Naruto with A Look.
“He started it!” Naruto yelled. His lip was split and his eye was black.
“You’re behaving like a child, Naruto,” Sasuke said, rolling his eyes.
“You’re both acting like you’re twelve,” I informed them. “You can go,” I said to the ANBU.
“Yeah, you can go, let me at ’em,” Naruto said, his eyes glinting dangerously.
The ANBU hesitated.
ANBU weren’t used to a juvenile hokage who behaved like an idiot.
“It’s fine,” I reassured her.
“Apologies, Hokage-sama,” the ANBU said, bowing as she withdrew from him and disappeared.
“Now where were we?” Naruto asked, cracking his knuckles.
“Sit down and be quiet,” I said, closing the door irritably. “Is it so much to ask for a quiet workday? I’m not a damn babysitter.”
“I’m the hokage, you don’t tell me what to do,” Naruto said sulkily.
“You two are idiots,” I said, shaking my head.
“I resent being grouped together with that moron,” Sasuke protested, eyes narrowed.
“Then stop being ridiculous,” I said.
Sasuke let out a puff of air to signal his exasperation.
“Ha, you’re as stupid as me,” Naruto said, seeming very content.
“Moron,” Sasuke muttered.
“Wanna say that to my face?” Naruto growled, clenching his fist.
“I just did.”
“I do not have time for this,” I muttered.
“Then leave,” Naruto said, making a dismissive gesture.
“Do you two want to get caught?” I spat out, finding myself losing my own temper.
Sasuke looked at me evenly. Of course he wanted to get caught.
Naruto just looked confused.
“Anyone with half a brain would be able to tell that your mouths are swollen from kissing, those bruises on Sasuke’s neck are clearly hickeys, and Naruto’s split lip is the result of being bitten, not punched.”
“Oh,” Naruto said, scratching his nose. “Yeah, well, things kinda got outta hand earlier.”
“Out of hand…?” Sasuke muttered.
“Yes, bastard, I thought that fucking on my desk was a little out of hand.”
“Felt good, though,” Sasuke said, tilting his head to the side and staring at Naruto.
The look in Naruto’s eyes suddenly went feral.
“Sasuke, you need to leave,” I said, opening the door.
Sasuke shrugged and sauntered by me out the door. “I’ve got better things to do, anyway.”
Naruto watched him go. Then he turned to me, frowning. “Why?”
“You can’t think straight anymore when Sasuke’s around.”
“That’s not… true…” Naruto said, tasting the lie in his own words. He flopped onto his chair with a dramatic sigh.
“What were you even fighting about?”
“I told Sasuke he’s not leaving the village, and then he said that I can’t tell him what to do, so I pulled the hokage card, which made him all bitchy, so we had sex on the desk… Sorry about that, but anyway, after that he told me he was going to the Land of Waves, and I told him I was sending someone else, and then he said that he’s not a bird in a cage, and I was like duh, who even would think that, and then he started getting mad, so I got mad, and then I don’t really know what happened, but the ANBU came in and I tried to kill Sasuke, and then you came, so that’s the story.”
I sank down into one of the chairs in front of Naruto’s desk. “Naruto.”
“I know, I know,” he groaned, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “What’s wrong with me?”
“You’re in love,” I stated flatly.
Naruto let out a long breath from his nose, then looked up at me with a pained smile. “I think maybe I am.”
“Admission is the first step to recovery.”
“I didn’t know,” he said quietly. “I really thought we were just friends.”
“But now you know?”
Naruto hesitated, before nodding his head. “Yeah.”
I studied the sad look in his eyes. He was calmer now, more himself. “Then what are you going to do about it?”
“What can I do?” he asked, sounding defeated.
“You can leave your wife of twenty plus years, or you can send Sasuke away.”
“Those are my choices?”
“Those are your choices.”
There was a knock at the door.
“Come in,” Naruto called.
Konohamaru came in, and the two prepared for their daily meeting.
I went back to the conference room, ready to get back to work. It was hard to push the hokage’s infidelity out of my mind, though. If it came out that Naruto was sleeping with Sasuke, there was going to be a negative backlash against Naruto himself and ninjas in general. He was our leader, and he was expected to behave in a certain way.
I thought of Naruto as a kid, always smiling as he dragged everyone into his light.
My stomach clenched.
This was about what was best for Konoha. It was my job to make sure that everything ran smoothly, and that the office of the hokage was not marred with scandal. All those years of doing the job acceptably would be down the drain with a hokage cheating on his wife with a former traitor who was also a man.
It was all such a pain in the ass.
Naruto’s retirement is what started it all.
He’d told Sasuke and I together, then taken out an old bottle of whiskey from his desk and started filling glasses. It had been comfortable and companionable, and when one drink turned to ten, I hadn’t really thought anything of it. We all felt strangely free, like a burden had been lifted.
Then Sasuke got that look in his eye, that same damn look from when he was twelve years old and wanted Naruto’s attention.
“You suck at drinking, usuratonkachi.”
“Who do you think you’re talking to?” Naruto demanded, slamming his glass on his desk. “I’m the hokage, bitch. I can drink you under the table.”
I blinked slowly, realizing that Naruto had the same damn look on his face.
Sasuke snorted his disdain, Naruto flailed around and yelled, and then they both started pouring each other shots and downing them.
“I’m gonna… go…” I said, taking my leave without either of them noticing.
The next morning, I found Naruto asleep on his desk.
“You didn’t go home last night?” I asked after shaking him awake.
“Oh, god…” he groaned, dropping his face in his hands. “I can never go home again.”
“Why?” I asked, straightening up some papers on his desk.
“I think I had sex with Sasuke.”
I paused. “You think?” I asked, clarifying.
“Does oral count?”
“Yes.”
“Oh,” Naruto said, looking even more downcast. “I had sex with Sasuke.”
I should have been more surprised, but anyone with half a brain knew that Sasuke had been in love with Naruto for years. And anyone with half a brain would have also noticed that that the way Naruto treated Sasuke was as more than a friend.
Fortunately, most people in Konoha did not meet the half-brain requirement.
I was already going through all of the possible contingencies when I asked, “So what are you going to do?”
“Bury it deep and forget it ever happened?” Naruto suggested hopefully.
“You don’t just forget about someone you have such strong feelings for.”
“Feelings?” Naruto said, wrinkling his nose. “Who said anything about feelings? We were drunk. It didn’t mean anything.”
And that’s when I remembered the horrible truth that out of all the oblivious people in Konoha, Naruto led the pack.
“Actually…” Naruto paused, perking up. “It really didn’t mean anything. Ha ha. What was I worried about? It’s not like I love that bastard or anything. So it wasn’t cheating. Oh, man, Shikamaru, I’m so glad that we had this talk.”
That was the beginning of Naruto’s rationalization of his affair.
I should have made more of an effort to put a stop to it, but it was oddly refreshing to have a hokage who was always smiling and laughing all of the sudden. Naruto was visibly happier, and I couldn’t bring myself to interfere with that.
Now here we were, with the oblivious hokage finally realizing that he was in love with his mistress, and the proverbial shit was about to hit the fan.
I hadn’t done my job properly, and I needed to take responsibility.
I went into Naruto’s office after everyone else had left.
He looked up from his paperwork wearily.
“We need to talk,” I said.
“I’m sending Boruto to the Land of Waves.”
I stared at him.
“He said he wants to do what Sasuke does, so why not start him off now?”
I stared harder at him.
“It’ll be a good-”
“And Sasuke?” I cut in.
“He’ll stay here and help m-”
“Send him to the Land of Waves.”
“I just tol-”
“He should go with Boruto. If it’s a training mission, then Boruto should be with his teacher.”
“Yeah, but-”
“Was there a specific reason for Sasuke to stay in the village?” I asked, giving him a hard look.
Naruto met my gaze evenly. “I need his help in preparing Konohamaru-”
“Send Sasuke to the Land of Waves. There’s no reason for him to stay in Konoha.”
“Is that your advice as my official advisor?”
“It is.”
Naruto looked pained. “I see.”
“It’s the best course of action,” I said, then took my leave.
It was what was best for Konoha. I just wasn’t sure it was what was best for Naruto.
Two days later, Sasuke and Boruto set off for the Land of Waves.
Naruto waved them both off with a smile that strained at the edges. Then he went back to work.

Chapter Two
Begin
"The red balloon flew up and up into the air, with no particular destination in mind, it went on its own way. There was nothing more satisfying than flying because it was what it was meant to do"
It didn't start with her healing him when he was at the brink of death.
It also didn't start with a drunken one night stand.
And, it didn't start with a proclamation of love.
The way things started with them didn't involve the usual cliché things Sakura had pictured in her mind. Though she had oftentimes wondered how in the hell they ended up being intimate with each other. It still astonished her. Honestly, if someone asked her how she was able to share a bed with Uchiha Sasuke, though no one would ever be able to ask her about it, she would probably surprise that person.
Because it was so unlike her.
And it wasn't something you would expect from her.
What would they say if they knew what sweet, innocent, warm-hearted Haruno Sakura had done? Aside from the fact that when she had run into the enemy four years ago, valuable information which should have been reported to the hokage as soon as it happened, Konoha's most promising medic had continued to meet him in secret.
And since she had seen him for the first time after three years.
She had not asked him to come home.
Not once.
If she was asked about the beginning, all she could say was that it was random. So random that no one would probably believe that she didn't do what was typical of her. The first time they ran into each other, she couldn't even remember where, because they had not even acknowledged each other's presence. She had been so scared that all she wanted to do was run as far away as possible. Who wouldn't be?
She was his enemy right?
They had been walking in a sea of people going about their daily lives. The sun was at its highest peak and she had taken her cloak off because of the heat. When she had folded the cloth over her forearm, his black robes caught her eye. She looked up to see him headed in her direction. He looked the same as when she last saw him. Maybe a bit taller. She couldn't see his face clearly because unlike the people around them who found the weather to be too warm and had taken off their jackets and what-not, he had decided to keep his cloak on. But she knew it was him. And he was closing their distance.
In her mind, she had stopped when he reached her side. It all happened in slow motion, the slight swish of his robe on her lateral, the shift in the ground beside her own two feet and the subtle way his eyes almost met hers. She wanted to look at his face, felt the urge to say his name, but her body continued to move. And he went on his own way. They crossed paths, but they didn't even say anything. It was like they didn't even know each other.
They were strangers.
And she didn't know why she didn't do anything.
She should've run after him.
But she didn't.
The second time they saw each other was in a civilian village located along the route from Suna to Oto. That day, she just felt like having a strong drink. It was a random bar she picked because it was the first one she saw. She had been tired from her mission to the sand village that she didn't even notice him at first. But, in the same way one's eyes search for something interesting in a room, he captured her attention.
He was sitting at a booth with Uzumaki Karin by his side. They were drinking alcohol and as expected the red-head was stuck to him. Sakura had felt a bit jealous at that. But she refused to admit it, concluding that she should just ignore they were even in the same place.
She had left again without saying anything, but before she made her exit, their eyes met but as quickly as they were in each other's line of vision, both of them looked away without so much as a hello.
It was excruciating, seeing him but not talking to him.
A week later, she came to the same bar, wondering if he was there.
He was.
Still with Karin.
Sakura fought the urge to stomp out of the pub but decided not to. Their oculars met again but like before, they didn't linger on each other's presence. She had drunk two bottles of sake that night. When the bartender had woken her up the next day she was too groggy to even contemplate about the fact that the bastard had just left her alone without a care for her well-being.
Two weeks later, she went back.
He wasn't there this time.
And though she felt the disappointment inside, she sat in the same booth she saw him in, and ordered her drink, emerald eyes immediately scanning the room for the familiar chicken-butt hair, but never finding him.
She went there weekly after that.
Naruto had once asked her why she wanted to go to Suna. She said that she was just beginning to like the weather there. She used this as a lame excuse but she was lying because she never really went to where she said she would.
Instead, she went to that civilian village.
Hoping to see him.
She didn't even spot Sasuke again until about two months later. She had actually come back from Suna at the time and as usual, she wanted to see if he was there.
He was.
And he was sitting alone in the same booth.
As soon as she entered, their eyes met. Sakura tried to ignore the fact that her heart just skipped a beat when he didn't look away this time. The young medic attempted to hold his stare but found that she couldn't, so she turned away first.
She sat in her previous seat at the bar and ordered her usual sake. The young medic sipped on the liquid and allowed it to calm her nerves. She could feel someone looking at her but told herself that it wasn't him. She almost choked when his voice, deep and dangerous, reached her ears.
"Does he even know that you're here?"
He wasn't going to say his best friend's name.
"Nope."
She didn't bother facing him as she took another swig of her drink.
"More please."
She signaled to the bartender. She was then handed another drink in no time and she downed it all in one gulp.
On the outside, Haruno Sakura appeared calm and collected as the kage loomed behind her. However, on the inside, she was anything but. Her heart hammered in her chest and her back felt really hot at the proximity of his body at her posterior. She was afraid because after about six months of randomly running into each other and happening to be in the same bar but never speaking, acting like they were strangers, he had finally decided to acknowledge her presence.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
She gulped and thought hard. What was she doing here? It was far from Konoha and a long way from where she came from. Truthfully, she was beginning to question her saneness. Because who in their right mind would go to a bar just so that they could chance a glance at the enemy? She told herself that she was merely checking up on him. Maybe to get some information.
No, if she was being honest, she just really wanted to see him.
And she shouldn't.
"It's neutral territory." She starts.
Her heart stops when he takes the seat next to her.
"And?"
"I happen to like bars."
"There are a lot of bars in Konoha."
He was regarding her with a look of suspicion. Of course, he was questioning her intentions. But in her mind, she was also questioning his.
"There are also a lot of bars in Otogakure." She retorted.
"Hn."
This was true. It didn't make sense for him to come here, the same way it didn't make sense for her as well.
"How are you?"
She doesn't know why she asked this question. She had been wondering of course, though she never planned on asking him. She doesn't know what they're doing, casually talking as if they weren't on different sides.
He looked at her and she knew that he found her annoying in this moment. He has an eyebrow raised and is probably analyzing her motive.
"Hn."
He didn't even honor her with an answer. What a jerk. Although, she supposed that this was expected. He didn't need to tell her how he was, they weren't friends. They didn't even know each other. Still, her mouth moves on its own.
"I'm fine. These past three years have been great. I am so ecstatic that both my teammates are kages and even more so that they are doing whatever they can to achieve their dreams." She said it sarcastically.
She expected him to leave her alone then because she had gone too far. She mentally kicked herself for saying what she did.
He surprised her however by smirking.
"You're still annoying."
Her heart clenched at his usual reference to her. Sakura Haruno, Lady Tsunade's apprentice, beloved medic of Konoha, loved and admired by all but to Uchiha Sasuke, always an annoyance. She unconsciously grasped her chest to stop the hurt. He had told her that she was annoying too many times now, the last time was something she could never forget. It was a vivid memory, his hand inside her chest, crushing the life out of her. It had felt like she was being torn from the inside. And he had broken her heart into pieces, even if it was a genjutsu. She inwardly told herself to be strong. Instead of crying, she smiled at him and said.
"I know."
He turned to her with an expression of surprise and after a few seconds, smirked.
And that's how it all started.
They didn't talk about the war.
They didn't even talk about their homes.
They simply talked about random matters.
As if they were normal young adults who met at a bar. And they continued to exchange words, frequently meeting at that very spot. Though sometimes they ended up being alone in most days, the gods somehow wanted them to see each other because they had good timing.
Yes, they were doing something crazy by starting something. Neither of them knew where this was headed. It was bound to blow up in their faces at some point. But they were slowly pulled by each other's existence. It was a slow friendship that didn't make sense because when they left that small village, they went back to their normal lives, going on missions, making plans to kill the bijuus, trying to work their way into defeating each other's side. However, weeks, sometimes months would pass and the two ninjas would find themselves wondering then their bodies would bring them to that village to chance another meeting.
It confused them, worried them.
It didn't make sense at all.
______________
" when it finally reached the point where it could go no further, its insides started expanding and expanding at the heat, was that the sun? but it refused to give up, and it refused to feel anything other than its love for flying"
.
.
.
"Hey, Sasuke-kun. Have you ever done it?"
He tried to fight the urge to turn his head to her with wide eyes. She surprised him with her question. This topic was private right? He decided on not answering her. But, she was looking at him and she looked serious. It had been a year since they started seeing each other and Sasuke wondered why she even asked.
They had built an invisible wall in front of the other, never mentioning their lives at their villages. It was shocking how long they managed to keep whateverthis was going. But he found that with this woman, they could never run out of topics. Be it the weather, the alcohol they were trying or the regulars at the bar.
He realized that a lot had changed about her, she was tougher and more opinionated. Also, she was more knowledgeable about everything in general. At the same time though, she was essentially the same twelve year old girl. She took good care of her hair still, and she was a sweet and caring person. He noticed this in the way she was kind to the bartender or to someone she met twice.
After twelve months of getting to know Haruno Sakura all over again, the question she asked was something he did not expect to come from her mouth.
"It's none of your business." He mutters.
"I haven't."
"So?"
"I'm curious though."
He didn't say anything back because his mind is suddenly filled with the thought of Sakura naked and lying in bed.
Under him.
He blinks to erase the image.
"So, have you ever done it?" she asked again.
He knew she wouldn't leave him alone if he didn't answer her.
"Yes."
"With Karin?"
"Aa."
"How many times?"
He looked at her then, now he wasn't able to hide the look of disbelief on his face. Was she seriously asking him how many times?
"I don't know."
He noticed the bewilderment in her green eyes. She quickly hid the hurt by drinking her sake. They stay silent then. Sasuke starts to feel guilty, though he couldn't understand why.
Why should it bother him that he slept with another woman too many times to count?
And why should it bother him that Sakura had looked betrayed because of that?
He doesn't want to stay in her presence now, so he pushes his stool back and starts to get up. She surprises him again when she too stands from her seat. He continued to ignore her as they slowly exited the establishment. The streets are empty except for a couple of civilians drinking and laughing at the nearby stores.
He could hear her footsteps behind him. Cautious and slow. But she was still there. She was following him. He walks aimlessly because he doesn't know where he is supposed to go. Why was he in this village again?
Somehow, he couldn't remember because he was becoming too aware of the woman behind him.
And he found that, like her…
He was also curious.
Not about sex in general.
He had done it several times before. At the age of twenty, he was an experienced lover. There was nothing remotely new about having a woman's body. He had only one constant partner. Even if they weren't really "together", she was always present, and she had shown him techniques he didn't even know about.
It was a mutual thing, finding that physical release which could only be brought about by another person's body. And he found that it was a good way to let go of pent up emotions. He doesn't go looking for someone to sleep with, Karin just goes to him and he sometimes, though this was a rare occurrence, went to her if he felt the urge to do so. It was purely physical and he wasn't curious about finding out what it was like with another woman.
That's why he is on edge as of the moment.
Because Sakura had stirred something inside him…
And he wanted to know what it would be like.
What would it be like if he claimed this ex-teammate's innocence?
Her steps halted and he turned to see what made her stop.
His eyes widened as he saw her, standing there, her body slightly turned to a building. It was a love hotel. His heart pumps faster as he registers that face, contemplating on something, and he knew what she was thinking. He swallows as she turns to him then. Her eyes told him everything she was saying even if she didn't open her mouth to utter the words.
His control shattered.
He walks to her, grabs her wrist and takes her inside. He was probably going to regret it but he didn't care at this point. Why should he? She wanted him to show her what it was like right? A normal man wouldn't be able to say no to this pink-haired medic. She was attractive and she had a physique that promised any male that she would be good in bed. Sasuke knew that he wouldn't be able to say no. Especially if she looked at him with a face that said.
"Fuck me."

It was a simple room with just one bed, a table and a lamp at its side. This room was made for one purpose and one purpose only. Sex. He allowed her to enter first. When she steps in, she anxiously sweeps her hair out of her face as she pretends to look interested in the furniture.
What the hell was she thinking?
Showing Sasuke that she wanted to try sex for the first time with him.
Her body shivered as she felt him come closer. His tall frame emanated a dangerous aura as he stood behind her fit body.
"Having second thoughts?"
Sakura could feel her goose bumps at the sound of his voice. There was just something about Sasuke's voice. It was dark and sexy. Finding that courage which got her into this situation in the first place, she turned to him and hesitantly reached out to his face.
Her soft hand caresses the side of his cheek as she looks up at him to make out the handsome structure of his face. The way he looked back at her had her whole body turn red because it simply told her that he knew how to make a woman scream his name. She sadly notes that Karin had probably received a look similar to this. Maybe something even more meaningful.
She bites her lip to stop herself from becoming bitter. Her hand almost falls back but he holds it to his cheek with his.
"Close your eyes."
Sakura follows his command and shuts her eyelids. That was the only warning she got before he crashed his lips to hers. They felt soft as they brushed on her pink ones ever so slowly, as if he was testing the waters, checking to see if he wanted to take a dip in it.
She moaned as she felt his tongue come out to ask for entry and she immediately opens her mouth to let him in. It was a battle of the appendages. He angled her head closer so he could dominate her and soon he does.
When they felt the need to come up for air they separated, a thin trail of saliva connecting both their mouths.
He pulls away.
She is almost disappointed but he steps back, and pulls the zipper of his high collared shirt down. After, he pulls the purple obi away from his form, leaving him in his dark pants that narrowed around his legs.
Her breath caught at the sight. He was too beautiful. White alabaster skin, muscles toned from years of hard physical training. Faint scars adorned his chest and she thought that they only served to add to his beauty. Her throat dries at the sight of his stomach. Her eyes go to his face again and she almost faints when she finds him staring at her.
"Sakura, take your clothes off."
It takes her a moment to understand his demand but when she does, she instantly blushes again. Dainty fingers come up to shakily pull her zipper down. She notes the massive difference in the way she removes her clothes in contrast to his confident stripping. She turns around to take off the sleeveless red blouse from her shoulder, leaving her in her white bra.
She turns slightly to regard him over her shoulder. When she finds him still staring at her she turns away and almost wraps her arms around herself when he grabs both her wrists and puts them to her side. His lips then go to her neck and he inhales deeply. She almost jumps at his display of affection.
When he senses her arms losing their tenseness, he grabs her waist and turns her to him again, immediately engaging her in another round of french kissing. She responds to him with more eagerness than before, fingers wounding through his dark tresses.
As he pushes her to the mattress, and places himself between her legs, he continues to skim his hands over her skin, soon, he unclasps her bra and wastes no time in grabbing her full breasts and sucking on one of them. She gasps his name at the contact. The sensation immediately radiates to her core and she finds herself in need of more of him.
Out of instinct, she started grounding her pelvis to his. He pulls slightly away to grit his teeth at the pleasure.
"Stop."
Her movements immediately halt, and she starts to feel the stinging slap of rejection. However, he pulls her closer to press his arousal to her. She gasps at the hardness of him.
"Let me do this first."
Sakura doesn't understand what he means and gasps when he grabs her shorts in his hands and pulls them down along with her panties. She almost shies away from the exposure but he holds her thighs firmly and spreads them apart.
"Sasuke-kun, please."
She pleads for him to let her go because she knows that she couldn't take it if he stares at her innocence.
And he does.
His dark coals gaze at her womanhood, and then they went to her eyes. They stay like that for a second before he lowers his head to taste her, tongue coming out to lap at her essence.
Sakura's hands immediately grab the sheets beside her and she arches her back to him. Her body heats up at the pleasure he invokes in her. Slowly and hesitantly her hips start to rock against his mouth and he lets out a growl of approval. His wet appendage moves higher and she suddenly couldn't help but scream his name in utter satisfaction as he stroked her nub. It was all going too fast, she wanted it to go on forever but at the same time she wanted to reach that absolute euphoria.
His name comes out in a strained gasp when she finally reaches her peak. Her body shakes at the intensity of the first climax Uchiha Sasuke has given her. But it was not the last. He doesn't give her a chance to recover because he swiftly takes off his pants, pulls his length out and thrusts into her.
"Ah!"
Her eyes widened at the painful feeling of him stretching her. Her teeth dig into her bottom lip as she tries to adjust to him.
"Relax."
"I, I'm sorry, it just took me by surprise." She says, slowly wrapping her arms around him and pulling him closer.
"Hn."
Sasuke settles into nuzzling her neck, tongue coming out to lick her skin. After a while, he feels her calm down. Then, he starts moving.
It was blinding sensation from then on out.
His thrusts, hard and fast, had Sakura gasping his name as she shuts her eyes and focuses on the man moving above her.
They were really doing it. Fucking each other. It was more than she could imagine. He was passionate and giving. She grabs his hair when he hits a spot inside of her that almost makes her come.
"Sasuke."
"Sasuke."
"Sasuke…"
His name is all that she could remember in this moment of unadulterated pleasure. And she is drowning in the overwhelming scent of his sweat mixed with his soap. She reaches a new high when he changes his angle and charges into her faster than before.
In a matter of minutes she comes again, biting into his shoulder. Her walls clamping hard on him seemed to have done the trick because so suddenly, he is emptying into her, thrusts becoming frantic.
He pulls out of her, spent and satisfied and goes to lie on his stomach next to her heated body.
The sight of him, exhausted and seemingly at peace makes her heart beat ten times faster and she finds herself unable to hold back any longer. The feelings she had for him, instead of disappearing, had only grown the past year. It was like they were given a second chance to be together when they went to that bar. Sakura hoped that was what it meant because she doesn't know if she is ever going to be happy without this man by her side. Before she could stop herself, she lets out those three words.
______________
"I love you."
Onyx eyes opened. His throat felt constricted upon hearing her. Really. She just had to say it didn't she? She was really too open and he suddenly felt the need to put distance between them. This woman was too annoying, she didn't even give him time to fully catch his breath. Sasuke feels the need to get away but finds himself unable to stand from the bed. Instead, he opted to just turning to his side, his back to her. He closed his eyes and listened. He was positive she had something else to say.
Sakura surprised him again by turning to him, wrapping an arm around his stomach, pressing her body close to his. He almost groans at the contact but stops himself. Already, he was regretting sleeping with her.
A few minutes passed by when the dark-haired nin finally decided that he couldn't take the silence any longer.
Did she expect him to say something back?
If she wanted him to tell her his feelings then she would be deeply disappointed because he knows that he doesn't even love her.
He finds the right words to tell her to stay away from him. That she should go home and forget this ever happened. Because this was all too much.
Her feelings.
She was suffocating him with her heartfelt confession. Deciding to break the quietude, he utters one simple word.
"Why?"
He had always wondered why she claims to love him. After her second love confession almost four years ago, he found himself pissed at her for professing her love for him when he was betraying the trust Naruto placed in him. What did she think it would get her? It puzzled him then, and it still puzzled him now. What did she see in him? Does she actually know who he is?
He stiffens when he hears her quiet laughter. Her hand comes up to stifle her girlish giggles but he could still feel it vibrate through his back. He glares at the table beside the bed.
This isn't exactly the right time to be laughing.
His glare bores through the furniture as he waits for her to answer his question.
"Orokana."
Her voice echoes into the room. He feels her shift her position on the bed as she pulls herself closer to him. He could feel her naked form against him now. Soft and smooth.
"You don't need a reason to love someone."
His breath hitches at the easiness of her answer.
"I mean, there are a lot of things I like about you Sasuke-kun, things that make me remember how happy my life was when you were in Konoha and things that make me believe that despite this charade of not caring and not letting anyone in, you do care."
This time, he turns to look at her. He expects her to look straight into his eyes but she doesn't. Instead, her hands go to his chest, slowly forming into small fists as she lowers her head to rest it against them. He feels her breathe deeply.
"At the same time, there are also things that I dislike. Like how easily you casted us, your comrades, aside, and how arrogant you are for starting a war against your best friend because you simply do not agree with him."
This was the first time she ever mentioned the war to him. He is curious if she is about to delve into it but is relieved when she pulls away and holds one of his hands, this time green eyes stared into his soul.
"But, it's all those things that make you. . .You. Just you. Uchiha Sasuke. . . You must think I'm crazy, but that's the truth. I simply love you."
It takes her a second to realize the passion in her words and she instantly turns red when he doesn't reply.
"Gomen, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable…"
He silences her with a kiss. A kiss projected with so much emotion that he couldn't help but deepen it. This was something he hasn't felt in a long time. The feeling of being accepted as who he was. The same way a family does. He didn't want her to take her words back.
He pushes her to the mattress again and touches her with the familiarity of a lover. Already she was responding to him.
When he enters her and feels her gasp at the pleasure he is giving her, he pulls her closer and tries to imagine that they aren't enemies.
He tries to forget about the fact that she chose Naruto over him.
And he tries to ignore the wild thumping of his heart as he feels something so foreign to him that he couldn't even give a name to it.
He just knows, as she comes from his hard thrusts, screaming his name, that after tonight…after she offered her heart to him again…
.

.
Things would never be the same.

"….it didn't care if it was putting its existence at risk, it kept on flying and flying…choosing to be free….it didn't care as long as it keeps on doing what it loves, higher and higher...

______________ To be continued
AN: Orokana - foolish / silly
I have no idea where this balloon thing came from. Lately, I've been searching for pictures of balloons in the great blue sky. Anyway, this is how things started with them. Actually, I was hoping to just focus on the romance between these two but a part of me wants to explore this little world that I created (ehem, based on Kishimoto's awesome manga). So maybe it will be longer than I intended? Maybe not.
Is anyone else feeling like the world is ending because Naruto is nearing its final chapter? Let's all raise our hands and cast our energy into Kishimoto-sama to just let Sasuke and Sakura be together. :D
It might take a while for me to update on both my stories so I hope this satisfies you for now.

A Piece of Kakashi’s Point of View During the Angst
Exactly as the title said. When I see the reviews I get, it makes me all happy and warm inside and ignites my muse. I wasn’t planning on doing Kakashi’s POV, but for you guys I will in the next chapter.
Here’s a piece of it.
Kakashi took a deep breath, feeling his heart slowly settle down as the All-Clear signal shot throughout the sky to signify that the last hostile had been defeated. It was well on into the evening and Kakashi felt a little tired. Not enough to warrant any concern; he never encountered an enemy of equal caliber to face. The only thing that provided any significant stress for him was the countless civilians and property he had to be mindful of, in addition to the sheer quantity of pests he had to deal with.
He was entirely unscathed (unsurprisingly), and despite the grim situation, he was content (as long as he ignored the nagging sense of worry he had over his students, he was at least). He felt confident that his students survived the invasion (he knew for certain that Naruto would be next to impossible to kill due to Kyuubi, he personally saw Sakura off to the medical tent, and Sasuke was too cunning to die to the low caliber of Otogakure shinobi).
Still, it would be irresponsible of him not to check in on his students.
And if it assuaged the tiny bit of concern he had towards them, well that was merely a bonus.
Naruto and Sasuke were the easiest to track down, since the ANBU team personally secured duo as soon as they could and took them to one of the high-security hospitals that was left standing. All he had to do was pop in and the ANBU guarding the duo allowed him to see him without any fuss.
Naruto was covered in bandages, but snoring heavily and looking utterly pleased with himself. Kakashi knew he would be recovered by the next day, if that. Sasuke was a little worse for wear, as he lacked Naruto’s two-fold regeneration, and concussions were tricky. A quick glance over his clipboard confirmed that the Uchiha would have to be on light-training for a month, at least.
With that being settled, Kakashi returned to the medical tent in search of his… spirited kunoichi. He was surprised that she had already been sent home, but after a split-second of realizing the time, not really.
‘She’s probably already asleep,’ Kakashi thought as he slowly made his way towards her home. ‘Her parents are civilians so they’re probably a nervous wreck and clinging onto her. I’ll make sure her chakra signature is there, then head home. No need to cause a scene.’
When he entered her neighborhood, a tiny seed of worry settled in the pit of his stomach. A foreboding sense entered his mind, and he unconsciously braced himself for quite a scene.
He did not expect to find Sakura hyperventilating in her destroyed home with two little black scrolls in front of her.
Kakashi was frozen the moment he saw her.
Not good. Bad, bad, bad.
Despite Naruto’s quick temper, Sakura was the most emotional member of his team. THough never one to dwell on negative emotions (though Kaksahi was getting a sneaky feeling about why that was the case), she was passionate in positive things and prone to openly sharing her affection towards all those around her. Including strangers.
For fuck’s sake she was prepared to argue with her sensei over the lives of two missing-nin.
She was a bleeding heart that endlessly poured out optimism.
When confronted with pessimism, or things deemed “negative” she reacted by not reacting at all. She clearly had a habit of repressing unwanted things, so Kakashi had to conclude that she lacked the experience in dealing with traumatic, or otherwise unfortunate events. In the life of a kunoichi, or shinobi, where death and horrific things were abundant, that lack of experience was highly dangerous.
Naruto, at least, didn’t ignore his feelings. He struggled to deal with them, but at least he was doing something about them.
Sasuke openly embraced his anger and used it as a weapon. Strictly textbook, he was behaving like a perfect little shinobi.
Sakura, though, didn’t deal. She didn’t acknowledge. She didn’t do anything except try to smile through.
That kind of behavior, if not rectified early, shattered shinobi and kunoichi.
Kakashi would know.
It’s what almost did him in.
Kakashi had planned on setting her up with a Yamanaka psychiatrist after the exams (as Chuunin were required for an annual psychological evaluation), along with her other teammates. Therapy never worked for him, but he hoped it would be enough for her.
Unfortunately, life struck before he had the chance to do that.
So here his student was, having a panic attack, and Kakashi was at a loss at what to do.
‘One thing at a time.’
Right.
Kakashi flickered before her, and placed his hand on her shoulder. Her body stiffened and her wild eyes moved up to meet his. He kneeled in front of her, placing his other hand over her mouth. “Calm down. Breathe with me. In. Out. In. Out.”
It took a solid five minutes before her breathing settled down that Kakashi felt reasonably confident she wouldn’t pass out. He slowly withdrew his hands. “Do you have family in the village?”
She shook her head, bits of her hair sticking to the dried blood on her cheek. Her pained green eyes trailed over to the two black scrolls on the table, and sheer agony rippled across her face. Kakashi’s chest tightened uncomfortably at that, and he stood back up. “Can you walk?”
She nodded her head, then after a small pause, she shakily tried to stand up. The moment she put pressure on her legs, though, they folded. Kakashi quickly grabbed her before she could fall, and he realized she was shivering slightly.
‘She’s freezing,’ he thought. ‘Okay, if I were her age--No. What did I want someone to do for me after I saw my father?’
‘Away. I wanted to get away from that house as fast as I could.’
“Wh-What about K-Kaa-chan and T-Tou-chan?” she choked out. Kakashi readjusted his grip on her before he pocketed the two scrolls. Then he shifted his stance and he ran as fast as he could to his apartment. It was in the ANBU district, which was heavily guarded, so it was untouched by the invasion. He had to set her down for a brief minute before he could unlock the door, but it wasn’t long before he brought her inside and took her straight towards the bathroom.
‘Hot water. She has to warm up,’ he thought before practically tossing her inside his bathroom (and silently thanking himself for doing laundry before today, so there were no dirty clothes for her to… creep on). Then he summoned Pakkun, and hoped his favorite companion would be able to take care of the rest because he sure as shit had no idea what to do.
Kakashi shut the door with a little too much haste than what was otherwise necessary, but he felt distinctly uncomfortable.
Then he summoned the rest of his Pack.
When in doubt, ask the dogs.
“You all know Sakura,” he began. “Her parents died in the invasion today.”
“Does she have a place to stay?” Urushi asked immediately.
Kakashi scratched the back of his head. “Uh. No. Well, actually she can stay here.”
Bull cocked his head. “Do you even have a guest room?”
Kakashi shook his head. No one stayed over at his place. He didn’t typically allow people inside his apartment to begin with. He could count on one hand the number of people he would allow to visit him at his place, and even less he would allow to crash on the couch. He never bothered with purchasing a spare futon because of that, or setting up a guest room.
Bisque made a disapproving sound. “Then you better hurry up and buy one. Get her some clothes, too, since she probably doesn’t have a spare.”
“Don’t forget the underwear,” Shiba added. When Kakashi’s face colored, the pack chuckled at him. “Don’t be a prude. She’s your student, and she needs help. What would Minato-sama do?”
“Buy her clothes,” Kakashi admitted, then sighed. “Okay.” He made a clone, gave said clone his wallet, and sent it off. “Now what?”
Guruko sniffed loudly. “Did she eat?”
“I--I don’t think so. Right. Feed her. Got it.”
“The poor pup will need some affection,” Uhei murmured. “She’s always so bright, and her kaa-chan was very affectionate, wasn’t she? She’ll need that affection now more than ever.”
The pack, as one, looked at the growing-flustered Kakashi, before they exchanged exasperated looks. Bull answered for them, “We will provide that affection, pup. Don’t look so panicked.”
Relief settled over Kakashi, along with a mild sense of indignation. He could be affectionate.
Probably.
Maybe.
Then again, given who needed the affection, it would probably be best if he kept his affections to a minimum. It would be tremendously awful if he gave her the wrong impression during such a difficult time.
Besides, the pack was more experienced at this sort of thing than Kakashi was. The pack was the single reason Kakashi was still alive (figuratively and literally). While he would never take his life, like his father, he wasn’t above taking on suicidal missions. If his dogs hadn’t nursed him ever since he lost his father, he doubted even Minato-sensei’s light would have been able to reach him.
The clone returned, then, and he made a couple more to start cooking dinner and clearing the office. Once enough room was made to lay down the futon, he dismissed them and finished up dinner. He brought it back to the room, and before he had a chance to set it down, Sakura and Pakkun presented themselves. “Um.”
She stood awkwardly in the doorway, no longer covered in dried blood, but a heavy weight seemingly pressed down on her. There wasn’t that familiar gleam of--of--love in her eyes--
Until she noticed him, and for split second Kakashi could see that spark, and he was filled with so much relief his shoulder sagged.
The spark was gone, though, and the worry returned. Kakashi straightened his shoulders, and cocked his head towards the bed. “Sit.”
She hesitated for a brief moment before she sat down. Bull pulled the covers over her lap, and the pack converged around her to form a tight circle. A ghost of a smile danced across her lips at that before disappearing when Pakkun sat in her lap. Kakashi squatted beside her, outside the circle, and handed her a bowl of fried rice.
“Eat,” Kakashi ordered. “I don’t care if you’re not hungry. You need to eat. Drink the tea, too, it’lll… it’ll help you sleep.”
Sakura nodded, and began to meticulously eat. The longer the silence stretched on, the more worried Kakashi felt. Even after losing her patients, she still--she still talked to him. She flirted, and teased, but she did none of that there. She was… lifeless.
Defeated.
Kakashi felt distinctly--distinctly--
He felt very much not okay with that. He didn’t like seeing her like that one bit.
‘Minato-sensei would know what to do. He’d know the right words to say that would make her smile.’
‘Obito would be able to make her laugh.’
‘Rin would be able to comfort her.’
‘Anyone would be better than me.’
Shit. He had to rely on his dogs to comfort her because he was so awkward with it. Here he was concerned about her lack of experience dealing with crap like that, and he still refused to deal with it for others. Here was a prime time to earn that experience, and he shoved it off on his dogs.
Kakashi rubbed at his face, putting those unhelpful thoughts away for the moment. Thinking about himself when Sakura needed him was unacceptable. He would deal with his demons eventually, but right now he had to deal with her’s.
When she was done eating, he put away her dishes and told her to get some sleep.
He didn’t know why he was actually surprised when she said she couldn’t.
He definitely was surprised when she said she was to blame for her parents’ death.
The idea was laughable to Kakashi, in a twisted sense of how he could perfectly understand why she would feel that way. He didn’t dig the katana through his father’s guts, but he shunned him like the rest of the villagers. He didn’t force Obito to take his place, but his carelessness gave Obito the opportunity to sacrifice himself for Kakashi. He didn’t get Rin kidnapped, but his lack of strength resulted in her death nonetheless.
He could tell himself over and over it wasn’t his fault.
He would never believe himself, though.
The idea that Sakura was about to enter that same kind of cycle as him was simply awful. He wouldn’t even wish it upon his worst enemy, let alone his favorite student.
When she began to sob uncontrollably, he instinctively reached out in a vain hope to comfort her. She threw himself into his arms, and for once he didn’t feel quite so distressed with her physical contact.
He didn’t even mind that his shirt was thoroughly covered in tears and snot within the hour.
All he wanted--all he could think about--was that he wished he could make her smile.

Although I respect people’s opinions, I can never bring myself to understand why there is so much hatred for Hinata. She loved Naruto since the very very beginning. I think that itself is enough reason to adore her because she was never against him. He didn’t have to prove himself to her and she acknowledged his beautiful personality before anything else. Meanwhile, mostly everyone had to witness Naruto’s physical strength before actually taking him seriously. Hinata was on Naruto’s side even before he could summon a shadow clone properly, before he could call himself a ninja, when everyone was so fixated on the nine tails that they treated him like he wasn’t human.
Forgive me if it seems like I’m comparing but when people put team 7 before everything, I close my ears. Don’t get me wrong, I love team 7 but when I think about Naruto, I don’t just solely think about Team 7. When we put team 7′s bonds before everything else, we are demolishing the bonds that Naruto shared with others. We are demolishing the fact that Naruto was alone. Every aspect (even the bad ones) in Naruto’s life should all be taken into account and not just a fraction of it. The fact that he found the woman of his life, I would think that people would be happy because the manga starts with this...
And ends with...
If you truly think about it, Naruto’s life is being told chronologically from his years as a boy, to a teen, to a young adult, to a full grown man. The ending is quite beautiful because it shows us just how much Naruto has grown; the fact that he found love! Who would have ever thought that knucklehead Naruto would get married... being the first one out of Konoha 11 at that?! It shows that in the very beginning, he was bereft of love... and the ending is basically his earned blessing because now, he’s united with the woman who loved him even when he was just that kid who sat on the swings and sadly watched everyone from afar. It depicts his adulthood. When watching this wedding, we shouldn’t be thinking “Why did it not end with team 7!” Instead, we should be thinking “Naruto has grown up” or “He’s not that kid anymore!” It’s his wedding. That marks one of the best days of his life.
Meh, everyone’s entitle to think what they want. This is just how I look at it. This is why I truly adore Hinata and the ending. While I do feel like Kishimoto should have added more into the ending, I am still grateful for the results. In fact, it makes me want to cry when taking in the beginning of the manga to the ending. Watching Naruto as that lonely kid and seeing him now...Kishimoto did such a wonderful job with explaining the aspects of Naruto’s life. I am so proud of Naruto. He’s accomplished so much and now he’s gifted with a woman with such a beautiful heart.
She even faced death for him. We see this puny little kunoichi fight a super strong evil shinobi like Pein and lost with the intent of protecting and revealing her love for someone who has saved her from herself; someone who broke the chains of insecurity and self affliction out of her. That itself tells you that Hinata has a story of her own. She went through spiritual battles herself so you shouldn’t trivialize her feelings and the role she plays in Naruto’s life. She’s a person too... and she is not perfect. People spend so much time with expressing their hatred for her character when even Hinata herself admits her flaws and expresses her need for change; expresses how she doesn’t even like herself.
In a way it’s kind of like you tell someone “I hate you” and they respond “I hate myself.” She’s not ignorant of her character flaws and that itself makes her even more of an incredible character because this whole time, she acknowledged her bad sides and it gave her more of a reason to want to change into someone stronger. Naruto was the prime source of her strength because he is the perfect example of what she’s trying to become. He motivated her to pick herself up and continue to work hard as both a person and a ninja. In return, she felt like she owed him her life which is why she didn’t care if she died on the battle field. Her sacrifice confirmed how strong and genuine her love really is. This moment in the manga defines just how strong Hinata had become over the years as both a person and a ninja.
I don’t see why it is a problem that she wants to be by Naruto’s side. We are already aware of the fact that she loved him since young. When you love someone, being by their side is more like an instinct. This is why she impulsively intervened in the battle the way she did... and other times...
And, you wanna know something that I find hysterically hilarious? Is that she actually makes it her duty to be by his side. She legit wants to protect Naruto more than he does for her. She wants to be there for him more than she is actually capable... and she BLAMES HERSELF for why he always ends up being the one to save her in the end. It’s hilarious because this girl legit loves this guy and there are still people that don’t actually realize that (I respect your feelings though, but still). Even when she is tired and out of energy, she still tries to make a way to be by his side. Even when she knows she will die, she still tries to find a way. It is plain and simple... Hinata LOVES Naruto. Period, point blank.
But then again, who’s to say that she’s the only impulsive one?
Those subconscious feelings are stronger than a bitch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Every time she helps Naruto, it is suddenly a “problem”. But, the crazy thing is... every time she DOES help him, he BENEFITS from it completely.
He even admits it every time. If it wasn’t for Hinata’s encouragement, he would have never had the confidence to defeat Neji in the final competition. In fact, he probably would have gotten his ass kicked simply put ^_^ He even THANKS Hinata for uplifting him so sincerely. Naruto’s depression vanished very quickly and now he is back to being himself... positive and full of energy; full of life and strength. Turns out, he actually likes Hinata as a person and understands her better.
Even her intervention during his battle with pein benefited him seeing that Naruto was going to die on spot after all. Next thing you know, he was able to meet his father, he was able to defeat pein, rewarded the title of the village hero, and luckily for him, he is still alive. He even acknowledges that Hinata’s sacrifice was a “save” on his part. He knows that Hinata wants to protect him hence he clearly assured her that she has already been doing that.
You want to know what’s really interesting about this panel? It reminds me of this...
Mind you, Naruto wasn’t exactly confident about his match against Neji (Like I mentioned before). Hinata uplifted him very quickly just like Naruto was able to uplift her as soon as he sensed how dejected she felt for being saved by him during the war. They are both very good at encouraging each other. It’s like an “eye for eye” sort of thing because they have the answer to each other’s insecurity. You would think that Naruto would have shared his worry to this team mates for those who believe that Team 7 is EVERYTHING. But apparently, he didn’t. For a girl that he considered weird, gloomy, dark , and timid , it truly amazes me that he entrust telling her about his weaknesses than the people he’s been “bonded” with throughout his early journey as a ninja. I’m not necessarily belittling the importance of Team 7 but rather proving that it is NOT the most important thing in the series. We have to be mindful of other characters too because they contribute a lot to Naruto’s character alone.
He even acknowledges the fact that she saved him from falling into the traps of Obito. He genuinely thanks her and also acknowledges that she “stayed at his side.” So, if Naruto can happily come to terms with that, then I don’t see the “problem.” In the end, he is back on his feet and being the happy knucklehead that we all know and love. We should be happy that Naruto has people like Hinata in his life that will sacrifice a leg and an arm for him; like his parents, like neji, etc. When putting Team 7 over everything, you are forgetting about those other precious people and things that were put in action to ensure his growth, his potential, and the extent of his passionate feelings as a character. Deny it or not, Hinata aligns with all of that and there is nothing no one can do about it.
“But Hinata isn’t relevant to the series because she doesn’t get a lot of screen time.”
Does the quantity of moments dictate how strongly Naruto feels about a person? Are we really going to let time away from a character dictate someone’s relevance to another person? Because, as far as I’m concern, Naruto has never spent a day with his mom or dad... but they are still upheld as important to him. Sasuke has been away from the leaf village for over 2 years. Even in their adult life, Sasuke has been away from the village for around 12 years (if I’m correct). It doesn’t change the fact that Naruto and Sasuke are very close. If screen time was genuinely relevant, then he would have let Sasuke go over the years that he actually spent time trying to find him. Jiraya has been dead for quite a long time... but Naruto’s feelings for Jiraya hasn’t changed. He still cherishes his god father with every drip of blood in his body. Gaara and Naruto are from different villages (we don’t get to see Gaara all of the time) but even that doesn’t dictate his bond with Naruto. Shikamaru is not even on Team 7 but he and Naruto are basically close as well... just like the of rest of konoha 11. Iruka hasn’t had all the screen time in the world but who did naruto ask to be his father in the wedding? Naruto even cherishes that sweet adorable ramen guy (the dude who NEVER gets screen time). So, can we please stop making everything about screen time? It doesn’t necessarily matter. The QUALITY of the moments he share with another character is what truly defines those special bonds. Believe it or not, he shared quality moments with Hinata hence there would be no point in the genjutsu meaning anything to him. Once he was able to genuinely decipher those moments, that is when he came to terms with his own feelings for the Hyuga. He was able to realize how he felt about Hinata all along... and it didn’t take THOUSANDTHS of moments for that to happen.

Sasuke has always been a man of very few words. Even when you bring up a topic that genuinely interests and intrigues him, you still cannot get very much out of him. Unless you are presenting some diabolical plan of destruction or genocide, he's not good with topics.
Sakura is sitting across the table from him at the smallest and least frequented café in the village. Their waitress comes and sets down two steaming cups of tea. Neither of them move to thank her or pick up their tea. The tension in the air is almost palpable.
Sasuke is the first to speak surprisingly.
“I didn’t want to come.” He says solidly. “I don’t like talks.”
“I’m aware.” She rolls her eyes.
“Naruto said I should.” He mumbles.
“Since when do you listen to anyone?” It’s true. He never has. And no has ever really expected him to after everything that’s happened.
“Since now.”
Sakura breathes out. She wants to get this over with without getting too much into detail.
“I know about you and Naruto.”
His face doesn’t change. He doesn’t want to give her a reaction yet.
“He came to my office and was worried that I hate you. Because he loves you. And because he wants us to be a team, always.” She's simplifying it in the worst way, but she knows if she doesn't grab Sasuke’s attention or peak his concerns in the first two sentences, he's giving up on hearing her out. “He didn't say those words exactly, but it's clear he's emotional over it.”
“Do you?” He questions neutrally. It seems that it's the only part he felt needed clarification.
“Hate you?” She asks, like she’s surprised it would matter to him in the first place. That wasn't the point of this. The point was Naruto.
He nods his head once.
“No.” She answers immediately. “No, I don’t hate you. I think you have a lot to figure out still. And I think you’re reckless and selfish and impulsive and I think you’re going to end up hurting him.” And now she’s rambling but at least it’s the truth. At least she's getting to what she really wanted to say to him.
“We are a team.” She tells him plainly. “We always have been. Even if the whole village thinks you're not worth it, Naruto will always stand by you.” She pauses for a moment, breathes deep. “I will always stand by you.”
He seems genuinely deep in thought about what she's saying to him. But he's still missing her point in what exactly she's trying to lecture him about. She's giving him support, but also simultaneously calling him reckless and selfish.
“What are you trying to say?” He finally questions.
“Just remember it.” She almost whispers. “Just remember we're always going to stand by you. No matter what. Don't throw that away. Because he needs you.”
He still finds himself bewildered by their loyalty to this very day. They aren't even blood related, and he'd never admit it out loud but both of them have more dedication to him than he ever wanted to acknowledge.
Even though at one time or another they've all tried to kill each other, quite literally, they love him. They love him like family. They are his family.
He won’t throw it away. He can't. Because the way things are right now are good for him. He knows that. He’s trying to think of something to say. Something that isn't ‘thank you.’
“I…” he starts. He thinks he knows what he wants to say. “I won’t.”
She raises those pink eyebrows of hers in question. She's waiting for more, for him to continue.
“I think that maybe I need him more than he needs me.” He laughs sounding a little defeated. He almost regrets the words the moment they leave his mouth. They're not untrue, just difficult to say. He feels a little hysterical upon confessing it. “He's stronger than I am.”
He doesn't know what's happened to him. He felt strong with his hatred. He felt strong when he was enraged and fueled with determination for vengeance. That all seems so foolish now. So much wasted time. It feels… wrong.
Naruto made him weak, he thought. Because he makes him want to feel. He makes him want to fight for something good and pure and right. He makes him want things for himself.
It's not what he's used to. But he knows that no matter what kind of life he lives that Naruto will always be stronger than him. But more than that, Naruto is his strength as well.
Sakura is bewildered by his words and it's obvious. She's at a loss for words, so she waits for him to continue.
“He's… important to me.” Sasuke says out loud but almost like the words aren't for Sakura. It's like the thought is new and he's testing the weight of the words on his own lips.
"But Sasuke…” she bites her lip with a worried and hesitant expression. “He's in love with you… can you say the same about him?”
He can't seem to breathe deep enough. He's not panicking but admitting it is completely different than thinking it. He thinks back to every significant thing that's ever happened to him, something he does far too often. Every hideous thing that has ever taken place, all the awful things that he's done; all of the hardship and tears and bloodstains, through all of it, Naruto never even flinched. He was going to die with him. Naruto was more ready to die than anyone could ever be when he was beside Sasuke.
“I can.” He finally says.
She doesn't say anything back. Just sips her tea and nods, looking content.
He follows suit.
He goes home that afternoon feeling a little unlike himself. Not completely unlike himself, but a little split open. He's nervous to see Naruto because now that he's said everything out loud, he's feeling vulnerable. It's irritating, and he's hoping it goes away soon.
He hopes Sakura isn't going to hold anything against him and that she also has the sense to keep everything he said to herself. Because he doesn't plan on letting it become common knowledge. He doesn't really think he needs to tell Naruto. He sort of hopes that Naruto already knows.
It's obvious that they're more than friends. They've kissed and they've touched and they've undressed to get under the warm spray of the shower together. Friends don't do that. He knows that. He’s not trying to kid himself into assuming that they could go back to being platonic. Hell, Sasuke can’t think of anytime where they were platonic. Naruto clawed his way into Sasuke’s heart practically from the moment they met.
He's not a child; he doesn't want to be immature about these things. He's just apprehensive because sometimes when they're together in that way, all he can think about is the fact that he's a virgin. Which is ridiculous, but it would be so much easier if Naruto acted like a virgin also. Because he is one. Sasuke knows he is. But he acts like he knows what he’s doing. He acts like he knows what he wants.
Which should piss Sasuke off, but if he's honest with himself it sort of just turns him on. It just makes him stupidly needy. It's nice to have someone else take the reins for once. But he would only ever let Naruto see him that way.
When he comes through the door Naruto is sitting on the bed with his back against the headboard. His eyes lift for a moment from the paperwork he's glancing over to greet Sasuke.
“Hey,” Naruto says, and goes back to reading, eyes carefully scanning the stack of paper. There's several other documents scattered on the bed and the table. He's sloppy as always, Sasuke thinks.
“What is all this?” He asks, taking off his coat. It’s getting easier to do so as he gets used to it.
“Briefing.”
“You're going on a mission?” He questions.
“Yeah, tomorrow. It might be as long as 5 days.”
Sasuke wants to bicker and say ‘you didn't tell me?’ But he says nothing. He sits across from him on the mattress, legs criss crossed.
“Sorry I didn’t tell you. I just took it today. It was sort of a last minute thing.” Naruto says ‘sorry’ lightheartedly. But Sasuke isn’t feeling lighthearted right now.
He tries to be conversational instead of irritated by asking what rank the mission is.
“It's an S-rank.” Naruto says slowly. He isn't meeting Sasuke’s eyes.
“You've never been on an S-rank.” Sasuke says quickly without thinking. It comes out sounding like worry.
“O…kay.” Naruto says looking at him like some foreign person whom he doesn't know.
“I mean. I mean, can you go? Are you prepared?”
Naruto squints at him and looks entirely thrown off. “I don't know what's up with you but I'm pretty sure if we can basically save the world from all encompassing doom, then I can tackle an s-rank mission.”
Sasuke doesn't say anything back. He has a point.
Naruto takes his pointer finger and pokes him hard in the chest. “You're being weird. Is everything alright?”
Ah Naruto is so conveniently insightful.
“Oh, how did tea with Sakura go?” He smiles in anticipation. Sasuke knows how fucking bad Naruto wants them to get along with each other.
“It was… fine.” He settles on. “No bloody noses.” And he could have put it more eloquently but the topics weren't for sharing yet.
“Are you sure you're alright?”
He thinks he's alright. He's feeling a little raw. Like somebody poked their way into his heart and searched around until they found all of his weak spots to prod at. People caring so much about him didn't faze him before, but now he's so struck by it that it feels like a flood.
That's the perfect way to describe what he's feeling. It's like a flood of everything he's ever needed yet constantly denied himself of.
And here's Naruto sitting in front of him, looking at him with that subtle gleam in his eyes. He gets closer, always closer and reads him like an open book that he'll never want to put down. He senses the openness - the hesitance paired with it.
“Come here.” He says, reaching for his shoulder to pull him closer.
Sasuke obediently lays on the right side of him, draping his right arm over Naruto’s torso while his missing appendage nudges underneath his back.
They don't wear their prosthetics at home. Not if they don't have to. Sasuke has yet to use it more than once.
Naruto turns and scoots so they're lying face to face. Sasuke's eyes are downcast so he doesn't have to look him in the eyes.
“Hey…” Naruto says quietly. It makes him look up. “I'll miss you too.”
For some reason, his heart clenches at the words. He never thought he would miss someone. Not someone living.
Fingertips are underneath his jaw, gently sweeping across the smooth skin. Naruto looks indecisive.
“Can… can I kiss you?”
He's asks a lot. Always asks permission. Sasuke is sure it's because Naruto is desperate not to scare him away. But he'll say yes. He'll always say yes. He nods his head ever so slightly. Naruto wouldn't have been able to detect it if he wasn't so close.
When he feels that soft, decisive press of Naruto’s mouth on his, it's like something in him quietly pulls and snaps.
They kiss like that, slow and soft and patient in the afternoon light that barely filters through the blinds as the sun creeps down.
The thought of Naruto leaving on this mission and coming back as anything less than himself, anything less than what's right here in front of him, scares the hell out of him.
He pulls him closer, needier than he's ever felt.
Naruto gives him enough to leave him on the edge of something. Something dangerous that he doesn’t know how he’ll come back from.
