I have some half-baked thoughts on Smurfette and Sassette’s relationship, and I’d love it if some other Smurfs fans could chime in with your thoughts too because I think I’m onto something.

Sassette was created specifically so Smurfette would have a friend who she could relate to as a girl. And while yes, this was a lovely thought on the part of the smurflings, I think it’s important to note that Sassette is a smurfling herself; a child. But Smurfette never got that privilege, she never had a childhood at all, she was just born into existence more or less exactly as she is now, and so I can only imagine what it’s like watching someone who was literally created to be your friend living an experience that you never had and that you never will have.

I can’t put all my thoughts into words but I hope you get the idea of what I mean.
