STARTER for @mettleborn // & HANNIBAL
It had been an uncomfortable start. Grating, in fact. All around her, men seemed to decide the direction of her new life, and then Saros was landed with one for therapy too. A man trying to pick around in her brain. How her mother would rage at the thought of that.
But mother was locked away in the depths of the BSHCI. And as of yet, Saros had been given no opportunity to visit. It was deemed 'inappropriate', potentially dangerous for her poor traumatised mind. Ugh.
Dr. Hannibal Lecter had admittedly been a surprise, however. Attentive. Encouraging her to truly speak her mind, though Saros resisted this for all of their early sessions. She simply played the part she knew she had to, trying to appease his questions. Then one day he'd outright accused her of doing so, though he showed no anger. Not even irritation. Intrigued was the word she'd use, always intrigued. Studying her in a way that seemed different to other men.
Saros was a hunter of predators. She took her work seriously, especially as she was the only one of her family left out in the world to carry the burden. Some of her sisters, her aunts, had died at the hands of the FBI. Others were sent away, and she didn't know where. They'd been torn apart. For their 'own good'. She had to do this. It was important. It was her calling.
Dr Lecter couldn't get in the way of that. However, in time, it seemed as though that was the least of his intentions...
Her lack of trust ran deep. But gradually, little by little, she'd divulged her bloodthirsty desires. And he seemed not to steer her away from them, but to explore them further. Further than a pyschiatrist was perhaps meant to.
"First thing I ever killed was a chicken. I was seven. Most kids have never killed anything beyond a bug. Y'know, an ant or a spider, somethin' like that."

TW: Murder, cult activity.
Pronounced 'Sair-os'. Daughter to cult leader Saffron Scattergood. Saros was raised to believe in higher celestial beings from the stars, and that men only wish to destroy and abuse everything they touch. After the cult was disbanded by the FBI, Saros found herself adrift in the foster care system, losing contact with all of her siblings. Though she came to terms with the fact she didn’t have the blood of the stars in her veins, working through all the years of indoctrination with her psychiatrist, Saros still held an inclination for violence.
When she fights, she fights dirty, just like her Mother taught her. The many lessons of Saffron Scattergood included being wary of men, but also how to use them to her advantage, especially the so revered innocence of teenage girls. Saros can cry on command, make herself a wilting flower, a weeping child that only needs protection, and this was exactly what she did when the FBI took her entire family into custody.
Though sexuality was an open subject at the commune, Saros never really connected with it, never understood the desires of other women around her. Her Mother insisted this was a divine blessing from the star people, that she had a gift that could be used to her advantage. Desire was a weapon, and Saros would be able to wield it far more skillfully than anyone else.
She struggles to fit in with other teenagers that don’t have a life stained with bloodshed and lies. When she turned 18, the foster system abandoned her, and Saros began taking up the mantle of her now incarcerated mother. With barely any effort on her part, just the simplest false smiles and batted eyelashes, Saros began killing men who dared to approach her, thinking her a silly young girl that could be easily manipulated. Gradually she started going to bars and clubs to find more victims, and they were oh so easy to find.
VERSES
Hannibal Saros is living in Baltimore, bouncing from foster family to foster family. The cult, Daughters of the Celestial, was taken apart by the FBI two years before the main events of Hannibal. She is 18 years old and a serial killer.
Promising Young Woman Now in her thirties, Saros has established herself as a serial killer of men and remains uncaught.
The Hunger Games Born in District 10 and reaped at 14, Saros was an underestimated tribute.
Alien Hybrid Rather than an insane fantasy, her Mother really did procreate with an ancient alien being. Half human, half something else, Saros is able to bend the DNA of living things to her will.
Yellowjackets A member of the ill fated all girls soccer team that survive the horrors of a plane crash in the wilderness. And do whatever it takes to survive.

DAUGHTERS OF THE CELESTIAL ; THE CULT OF SAFFRON SCATTERGOOD
TW; MURDER, CULT ACTIVITY
Melissa Scattergood came from a heavily religious family, an environment of total control that dictated everything in her life from how she dressed to who she spoke to. TV and music were banned in their house, and the smallest ‘sins’ were punished with a beating and an expectation to pray. Melissa felt more suffocated the older she got, knowing that her parents had plans in motion for her to marry regardless of her wishes. Jesus was no comfort.
At 18, she one day missed her bus home from the grocery store. In distress, she accepted the kind invitation from a stranger to drive her home, and he seemed charming and kind, completely unlike anyone Melissa communicated with. Not only that, but he was the polar opposite of what her parents would have accepted, with his long hair and his ear ring, rock music playing on the radio. It was the first song she’d really listened to other than hymns and she was entranced, excited by the insanely rebellious act of getting into a mans car. He even dropped her off around the corner, so her parents wouldn’t see.
Melissa ran away with Daniel after three more secret meetings, dazzled by his plans for life, his desires to create a better world and a free community, where everyone could do what they wanted and be themselves. She wasn’t the only naive young woman to fall victim to Daniel’s charms. She spent years in his commune, which he built from the ground up, but in time realised that the man she’d followed so blindly just wanted to control her- exactly like her parents.
With a new name, Saffron, she left at 25 with a handful of other women, starting her own commune. A place that could really bring freedom for women, where nobody dictated who they married or slept with.
As Saffron’s commune grew, there was a heavy emphasis on the importance of woman in society, on femininity and superiority to men. Women were life givers. They were the world. With a combination of religious vigor and new age ideas, Saffron cultivated a loyal following with her beliefs. Men were not allowed in the commune without express permission from Saffron herself, and these visits were strictly regulated and short. Using men for sex was not frowned upon, in fact it was encouraged, but these ‘seeders’ were to be discarded as soon as they’d served their purpose.
As time went on, Saffron’s teachings became staunchly anti technology and anti capitalism. They devolved into a belief in the divine and celestial, including alien beings who would one day heal the earth, whose technology is so superior that to use human tech was to damage the body and soul. Because of this, no TV was allowed at the commune, an echo of Saffron’s past, but she did allow a radio. This allowed her to support her claims that men were destroying the earth with their greed.
She was their Mother now. She had taken them in and given them real freedom in a world ruled by men. There was no judgement in the commune, whether that be towards promiscuity or killing. Saros had other siblings who were claimed to be Star Children, and only Saffron could communicate and procreate with these ‘celestials’. They were as revered as their birth mother.
When the FBI eventually tore the commune apart, the children were scattered to the wind in the foster care system. Saros moved from place to place, losing the only home she’d ever known and incredibly distrusting of a world dictated by the whims of men.
Her Mother was tried and sent to a hospital for the criminally insane.

The other teenager snorted, her gaze still directed out of the window. And she couldn’t help smiling, either, at the enthusiasm in Eve’s voice. That’s cool as fuck. Followed up by that bold question. Saros liked that she wasn’t afraid to ask questions. Most people were, most people were terrified to ask, either because they thought she might break like a china doll, or because they suspected her. They thought she was weird. Messed up. Damaged.
And she was all of those things. But Eve and Noah didn’t treat her like that. They had their own baggage.
“It was home.” Saros replied, finally looking back to her roommate. “All I ever knew my whole life, ‘til I was ten. I didn’t even know McDonalds existed until my Dad took me out of the commune. Or a whole lotta stuff, actually.”
Saros sat on her own bed, idly tracing the stitching on the sleeve of her sweater. She’d had to talk about her past so many damn times, to the cops, the FBI, to multiple psychiatrists and social workers. She let different emotions show each time, depending on who she was talking to.
“But y’know...a cult’s a cult, right? I’ve been researching a bunch of them. It’s weird when you’re suddenly on the outside looking in, but- nobody can ever understand what it’s like. Not unless you’ve been there.”

@omniishambles said: ‘it’s true. it’s on wikipedia.‘ Saros
“It is??” said Eve, jumping from the bed to grab her phone, laying on the little desk crammed in the corner of the room, “shit you’re right,” she finally added after having scrolled on wikipedia for a few seconds.
“Damn, your cult is on wikipedia, Saros, that’s cool as fuck,” she commented, shoving her phone in her jeans’ pocket.
She laid back of the bed, her hand tucked behind her neck, shoes nonchalantly tapping on the sheets. Did her dad have a wikipedia page too? No. He didn’t, right? God, she hoped he didn’t. Not sure she wanted to check, now. Maybe she’d ask Noah to look, when he’d return from his doctor’s appointment. Right, he’d check, and he’d tell her. That was better.
“What was it like, then? If you wanna talk about it, of course.”

Headcanons // Saros Scattergood
She still owns one of her dad’s jackets. For the first year in foster care, she wore it to go to sleep every night.
Saros began preparing to kill her Mother at the age of 10, a whole year before the ‘sacred’ age of 11.
Her dad lied to the family by claiming that any unwell siblings had been sent away for special treatment. In fact, any children deemed ‘weak’ by Sanderson were murdered to make space for the healthy children.
There was no TV at the commune, only the radio. Saros grew up listening to music from the 60′s and 70′s and had no idea about anything modern until her dad took her on her first field trip. This coincided with her ‘training’, getting ready to make a sacrifice out of her Mom.
The first person she killed was a junkie, someone easily missed by society, guided by her dad.
Many of those who joined the commune were vulnerable, lost in the world and looking for somewhere to belong. As long as they obeyed the rules and accepted the will of the Celestial, they were welcome to stay. Anyone who tried to leave was secretly killed, despite being cheerfully told they could leave whenever they wanted.
Raised on delusion and lies, Saros initially found it very difficult to accept all the murders her Father committed. Once placed in foster care, away from her remaining siblings, she spent every hour of the day in her room trawling the internet, catching up on sixteen years of hidden knowledge.
Her feelings towards her Father are complex. She was always very close to him, eager to make him proud and protective of him right up to the end. But once in the care of the FBI and social services, her entire world unraveled.
Sanderson is now incarcerated at the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.
