I give you this but imagine a character that has been raised to be the chosen one™️, the one mentioned in the prophecies and raised to fight whatever evil is in their world, but it turns out that they weren't even the chosen one™️ to begin with. Their life had been a lie.
Bonus if they find the actual chosen one™️. Then what? Do they accept their fate or do they go feral?
it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

Could you draw a sariel? Sariel (Aramaic: שריאל, Greek: Σαριηλ , "Prince of God" "God's Prince") is an angel, mainly from Judaic tradition. Other possible versions of her name are Suriel, Suriyel (in some Dead Sea Scrolls translations), Seriel, Sauriel, Surya, Saraqael, Sarakiel, Suruel, Surufel and Sourial.Sariel is cited both as a holy angel and a fallen one. In occultism she is one of the 9 angels of the summer equinox and is effective as an amulet against the evil eye. She governs the zodiacal sign of the Ram (Aries). In addition, she teaches the course of the moon (which was regarded at one time as forbidden knowledge)
I thought this was really cool so I finally got around to drawing this!
I thought it would be cool to reference the Aries association with horn-like head ornaments :3 I don't really give my angels halos but I do like to decorate them with ornaments and crowns.

The new revelation.
I shall hereby call on upon my angels. As for this is the new revelation. Welcome the 7 familiars. Raphael, Michael, Gabriel, Sarakiel, Uriel, Raguel, Phanuel, as they are sounding the trumpets, annually. Followed by the occasions, those that represent pestilence, war, death & famine. For we are in the midst of the new origin. For this is salvation. For i am your vessel, seen as the lamb. Ashes on wool. With the passage of time, those who stand firm. We shall welcome you to the new world. Stay, to witness it with your own eyes. Lamb calls, wolf strikes.
Because everywhere lamb went, wolf were sure to follow…
And everywhere lamb went, wolf were sure to follow…

some concept art for Sariel and Remiel, as arch- and fallen angels.
Some ramblings on their lore I could gather under the cut:
The concept of the Seven Archangels is pretty fascinating. They are first mentioned in the Book of Tobit and are probably derived from the seven Amesha Spenta from Mazdeism. However, their specific names vary. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are always part of the group, the fourth one is usually either Uriel or Asriel, but the last three are always different. The oldest source that tells us their identities is the first Book of Enoch, but even here we find an anomaly. Two of the seven archangels, that are mentioned in chapter 20, are also counted among the fallen angels. So Sariel is both the archangel that presides over the souls of the sinners, and the Watcher that taught humanity the mysteries of the Moon and its phases. The idea that such an important angel, who was so close to God could fall is very engaging, which is why Samael/Lucifer is also often added to the archangels. The actual reason, why this angel seems to have multiple roles, is probably that both the names Saraqael, "God is my ruler", and Sahariel, "God is my Moon", were abbreviated as Sariel.
The other archangel that also appears in the First Book of Enoch as one of the fallen. Just as with Sariel, this is due to similar abbreviations for different angels'names. Here the archangel is actually called Jeremiel, which means "God have mercy!" And can be shortened to Remiel. In apocryphal scriptures, like IV Ezra, he oversees the souls of good people and can also bare the name Ieremihel. This guardian of Heaven is also the one to send out hopes, dreams and visions of the divine. ramiel on the other hand, "God has thundered", is among the leaders of The Watchers, like Sariel or Samyaza.

Ah! The origin of GO's Metatron clears up a lot actually. Greatly appreciated. Yeah he definitely was behind Crowley's Fall from Heaven
hey anon!!!✨ yeaaaaaah it's not looking so hot for enemy no.1 right now... still inconclusive if he was behind the fall, and crowley's fall specifically, but it's looking more and more likely.
(as an aside, it's going to be somewhat interesting how far to take neil's first answer, in terms of the influence (if any) that the general happenings in the book of enoch could have on the GO narrative - especially if we consider that in GO! verse, enoch and metatron both exist but are not the same being/person.
reason i say that: iirc correctly, enoch is the only text that mentions the name 'saraqael' (1 enoch 20:6), but they are an angel understood to have been referenced to by multiple other names also (inc. sariel, suriel, sarakiel etc). so it might be that neil just picked this particular name for the aesthetic, rather than to make any confirmed reference to book of enoch... im sure there's an ask on this floating around his faqs somewhere, i'll link if i find it!✨)
#for example - could be a cool plot point if somehow enoch/metatron were messenger to the fallen angels or st#idk how it would work but the thought is interesting#anyway key point: we have your number metatron#good omens#ask#s2 meta#metatron spec#the fall/the great war spec#s3 narrative spec#AWCW spec

He's definitely struggling, but somehow can't bring himself to complain, which is really saying something.
Hecate went nuts with her buffing again.

For the Christian side of things, their lists look like this:
Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel and Jerahmeel
Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Salathiel, Jegudiel, Barachiel and Jeremiel
Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Surael, Sakakael, Sarathael and Ananael
Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Selaphiel (Salathiel), Jegudiel (Jehudiel), Barachiel, and Jerahmeel (Jeremiel)
Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Raguel, Phanuel, and Remiel
Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Suriel, Zadkiel, Sarathiel, and Ananiel - and often Sakakae
Saraqael is probably on that list, as apparently she also goes by Sariel Suriel, Suriyel, Seriel, Sauriel, Sarakiel, Suruel, Surufel, and Souriel, and a couple of those are above
Archangels are anything but definitive, though Raphael is the notable exception that’s on all the lists and not in Good Omens (yet).
Hi Mr Gaiman!
I had a question: in season 1 the 4 archangels were Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, and Sandalphon. In Season 2, it's Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, and Saraquel.
But in the bible, it's Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, and Raphael.
...but Raphael isn't mentioned anywhere in GO, and I was wondering if there was a reason for that....
That might be tied into the reason that Crowley can open files in Heaven that can only be accessed by Thrones, Dominions, and higher?
Thank you!!!
"In the bible" there are three, or four, or seven, or eight archangels. It depends which rite you follow... This Wikipedia article may help...
#the thing with religion is that there are no definitive answers#the thing with fiction is that it plays with facts to make a story#I do think Raphael will but in an appearance but it won't be 'wrong' if they don't

Do other angelkin ever get the urge to eat really weird stuff? And not like interruptive thoughts like “cronch the leaf”, I mean I was literally salivating over the thought of eating a color out of the sky. Is this sort of thing an experience others have?
#actuallyangelic#angelkin#things Sarakiel wants to eat: the sun. the color of the sky. fire. light. sound. the concept of a black hole. the sun again but different#rays of sunlight are crunchy like sugar glass but thicker. so like normal glass#or thin ice

My regards to the world
In the gold light of the sun
There's much to be learned
And too much to be undone
I love you too much to hear
I love you too much to see
Wasn't stupid like my brother,
I'm just stupid like me
I've got offwhite wings
And a heretics voice
I get a slap on the wrist
Cause I make the most of my choices
And I want to understand
But I'll hunt it myself
I'll find the tablets
And bring them back to shore
