Hello ! I don’t know if you remember I am the person who was watching new girl during her exams ! Ok so we need to talk about the Indian wedding convention episode because it made me think of your au and what would happen with obikin ! I was imaging instead of a convention it was more like a couple retreat to bring couple closer and Anakin wanted to do that for him and padme (feeling guilty about his ongoing attraction with obi-wan). However padme can’t because of her job (for a campaign or something) and she tells him to go with Obi-wan because she doesn’t want to waste money and she thinks it’s funny. Obi-wan agrees because he doesn’t know how to say no but also and guiltily he wants to spend some time alone with Anakin. Obviously there was only one bed. And like in the wedding convention épisode they do activities that show how compatible with each other they are (and it can make a good parallel with the « they were the two parts of the same warrior » thing). And when they come back they are closer than ever and maybe Padme realises something’s off. Or maybe they make out again and Anakin has to tell padme what is going on because he feels guilty (like Jess in new girl). However I don’t see them getting in awkward make out sessions like Jess and Nick once Anakin is single 😂 maybe they have angry sec though ? I don’t know…

Anyway I hope you’re well ! Please take your time and don’t feel guilty with not writing or finishing ongoing projects ! It remains a fun hobby and you will feel inspired when the time comes. In the time being I am reading your fics (again) because they are such a confort (i love the one where Obi-wan is cursed and can’t touch Anakin, the pining is excellent in this one). I might read your magicians fics, I used to love this show and loved Quentin and Elliott together… Unfortunately since season 4 was cancelled before it could end 🙃 we never had the chance to see where their relationship could go…

omg that is such a good idea tbh!! padmé would be like, "why don't you take obi-wan? you guys get along and he definitely needs some time off! go and have some fun" while there are sirens going off in anakin's head. obi-wan of course agrees because, well, padmé is basically sanctioning this (the trip, not another make out, obi-wan has to remind himself), he could use some time off and having anakin keeping him company is a treat he can't say no regardless how much the rational part of his brain keeps telling him that this is a bad idea.

meanwhile neither padmé nor obi-wan know that anakin actually booked a romantic trip that he can't refund or change to something decidedly unromantic. and the thing is, anakin is resourceful, okay, he found out that if you tell these people that you're newlywed, they provide upgrades to these couples retreats, and he thinks padmé would've laughed about it, maybe it would've been a hilarious joke or he would've proposed, maybe maybe maybe. but he arrives with obi-wan who sort of looks like he's chewing on a whole lemon when they step into the room and it's covered with rose petals, there's cheap champagne in a cooler (mind you, this isn't an expensive retreat), strawberries, couples bathrobes and a bowl with condoms next to the bed.

anakin thinks it's the perfect atmosphere to have sex. and when he thinks that he realizes he isn't even thinking about padmé and he feels guilty but also not, and he really doesn't know what to make of it all.

neither of them offers to not sleep on the bed. but anakin notices that obi-wan is uneasy and a bit restless, and thinks it's because he doesn't want to share the bed with anakin and it irritates him because!! obi-wan could've just not come on this trip and anyway, he kissed anakin and then never did or said anything about it again, and--. so he snaps that obi-wan should stop fussing and just go to sleep. and obi-wan being obi-wan snorts at that brilliant idea but then quietly admits that he has trouble sleeping in new places, and this mattress broadcasts every little movement anakin does and jostles him which doesn't help.

and if you asked either obi-wan or anakin later, neither could tell you how exactly they ended up like this, but anakin ends up big-spooning obi-wan (to minimize the jostling through the mattress) (and to help obi-wan sleep) (supposedly) (they both don't get a lot of sleep) and it feels so good. obi-wan smells incredible, he's broad and firm under anakin's hands, so different from padmé, so wonderfully solid, and again anakin feels so guilty and at the same time not at all because being pressed up against obi-wan like this feels amazing.

they do all these compatibility challenges the next day and they do them so well, it's flows so smoothly, it's effortless, and everyone is so impressed by them, that perfectly in-sync couple, and anakin glows because this is all he ever wanted. but it's with obi-wan. and anakin is with padmé. and he wonders if these challenges would've been as easy with her but now he'll never know. he finds that he doesn't even really care because he's ecstatic that he managed them so well with obi-wan. who isn't his boyfriend.

anyway, it's probably a whole mess and obi-wan is losing his mind because apparently they're really compatible (which, he tells himself, is very stupid to think and latch onto because of some silly little party games but his massive crush on anakin is just running with it). and anakin keeps looking at him with big blue eyes and a dazzling smile, all happy and flushed, and it's so so hard not to kiss him again, kiss him stupid, kiss him until he forgets all about padmé and just stays with obi-wan.

Hello, so sorry if you do not want to answer this cause I didn’t know if it was something I could ask you in an ask (cause it’s kinda spoilery ish) but is Of Good Men and Monsters gonna end badly ? I will read it anyway because I love all of your stories and won’t be able to stop myself (I think I could read a recipe book written by you just for your writing ngl). However, if it has a sad ending I need to prepare myself (I will certainly be in crisis if it does).

I also want to thank you for all of your work, you have been posting a lot of obikin fics in the past year and I have been in love with all of them. The first one I read from you was you look wonderful tonight and honestly I was so excited every time I received an email from ao3 for this one ! And after that any time you posted a new fic i read it avidly ! So thank you for bringing these little moments of joy with your stories ! ❤️

Oh gosh you're so sweet, willing to read my work despite potential heartache! I would describe the ending more as... bittersweet. Its not all sunshine and rainbows but perhaps it'll surprise you with how much hope there is, despite it all. It's a happier ending than they get in canon, at the very least?

And thank you for reading all my work! I've felt so inspired this past year by obikin, and it's been so liberating and freeing tbh. I went through a massive creative block after I finished my thesis in the autumn of 2019, and struggled to write anything that I was happy with. And then suddenly I got bitten by the obikin bug and haven't been able to stop! I have already written more multi chaptered stories for this pairing than any of the other fandoms I've written for.

And I have to thank the amazing community for it. Everyone has been so welcoming and supportive, and their creativity has inspired me in so many ways. Like I just walked into the community and started posting and talking to people, and everyone has welcomed me and my works with honest enthusiasm and kindness.

(1/2)Hi ! I love your analysis of TGF, I always have a good time reading them. I would like to know your thougts about the parallel between Audrey and Boris ? I mean besides the fact that Audrey's memory haunts Theo and stuck him into the past and trauma ; and Boris frees Theo from his stagnation state and enables him to see life in a new perspective. I feel like there's a lot of similarities between the two of them.

(2/2) For instance, both gives Theo a nickname. both could communicate with Theo without words. He found a new home and family with Boris in vegas, something he lost with his mother etc etc... So what do you think ?

Yes!! I believe we as readers as supposed to see a LOT of similarities between Boris and Audrey. They are essentially the "bookends" of Theo's story in the novel and of his affliction of post-traumatic stress. Firstly, they both have black, dark hair!! Theo describes Audrey as dark-haired with pale-skin.

Theo is constantly mentioning and describing Boris' hair through the novel, often at moments that bring back memories of the bombing, or before or after moments when he mentions Audrey. Obviously we all laugh bc of Theo's thirst and him constantly mentioning Boris swishing his hair, but there is also another more sober and heart-wrenching reason it catches his eye -- it reminds him of his mom ❤️

Also: THE UMBRELLA! It was raining when Theo and Audrey went into the museum. They dashed inside and Audrey has an umbrella to keep them dry. Who else pulls out an umbrella to shield Theo from the elements/his internal conflicts? Boris. Boris who shields him from the harsh reality of the sun.

Boris is the only major character in the novel Theo would not have eventually met if not for the bombing. He met Pippa and Welty, and was in fact waiting back from his mother so he could introduce himself to Pippa -- if he met Pippa that wah (something Pippa and Theo talk about during their dinner scene as adults) they likely would have had a friendly dynamic. He would have then met Hobie. Theo's father (and Xandra) needed only a monetary opportunity to reappear and it would have happened sooner or later -- but Boris. Meeting Boris is a direct result of his mother's death and this is a poignant fact that inexorably links Boris and Audrey and likely causes some internal conflict in Theo -- who loves them both very much.

It is symbolic in a way -- the "death" of his mother as an influence allows Theo the space to grow to feel romantic and sexual love, however in Theo's case it happened too soon and too violently, and this is evident in his stunted inability to confess his feelings to Boris or to have a healthy relationship with a boy (which he so obviously wants and would have been eons easier with his accepting mother in NYC as opposed to his manipulative father in scorching masculine-coded Las Vegas).

Audrey is also the one who introduced Theo to the Moon story -- he thinks about her childhood in Kansas and Kentucky, how she was miserable having to move after she lost her parents and was told "look up! the moon is the same wherever you go". Theo is nestled next to Boris in bed in the dark when he recalls this story and jostles Boris awake asking if the moon is the same in Russia or Indonesia to which he replies of course it is! It is like Audrey speaking through time to let us, the readers, know she approves of Boris -- this strange feral boy who introduced himself to her son as Badr (the Moon!) and makes her Theo smile again.

There's also the matter of The Goldfinch. Audrey is the one who INSISTED on bringing Theo to see it (perhaps it reminded her of her son, a young boy just entering his teenaged years, maybe she knew something about Theo -- about how he might feel "shackled" like the goldfinch was, and wanted to express to him how beautiful and striking that little bird was even in its chained uncertainty). And then Boris, of course, is the only character who ever gets to see or touch or know Theo has the Goldfinch after Theo takes it. Boris is privvy to Theo's soul in a way no other character is -- not only can Theo NOT hide the Goldfinch from Boris (when Theo is drunk he willingly reveals it to him as teens) but Boris then thieves it without Theo knowing (ahem) and then toils over it for years, falling in love with it, and he becomes determined to reunite it with Theo as a life-altering mission that represents his ability to be good. I mean, Audrey and Boris' connection to TGF is rife with symbolism about Theo's sexuality tbh.

Audrey and Boris are also both animal lovers (Audrey with her horses, Boris with dogs). They both love old movies! Theo mentions he and his mother wanted to go to an old horror-movie festival (I believe) and Boris is obsessed with old black-and-white films. They both enjoy this pasttime with Theo. Boris and Audrey are both terrible cooks (Audrey ruining Thanksgiving, Boris depending on Theo to cook for him). Boris and Audrey both have a maladjusted relationship in the book (Larry, Kotku) where Theo harshly judges their partners.

Theo overcomes his iciness with Kotku after she says she is sorry his father died -- growth Theo experiences with Boris at his side. Theo also watches It's A Wonderful Life at the end of the book with (Boris) as opposed to horror films with his mother -- growth. Theo also comes to love and care for Popchyk, going so far as to smuggle him all the way to NYC -- growth.

Audrey died in a horrible smoky bombing incident (and some of her family members died of lung cancer which is explicitly mentioned in the book), Boris is a smoker like a chimney -- signifying her "warning" to Theo that this boy might be the one that he wants, but he has to be the one that deserves him too. When Boris throws his burning cigarette in Martin's face during the climactic Amsterdam confrontation scene in his effort to save the Goldfinch and Theo's life, he proves this.

There is another object that Boris gets to see that belongs to Theo's mother personally and is a source of anger in Theo -- his mother's emerald earrings. Theo and Boris discover them together while rifling through Xandra's room. When Theo tries to gift them to Kitsey, she rejects them in front of his face -- his future wife rejecting his memory of his mother and his traumas. And then Boris, his Moon appears shortly after.

There's also the very obvious parallel of Theo loving them both wholeheartedly. At the end in Amsterdam we see Theo faced with a potential tragedy like the museum -- I have a whole post that compares the Museum Bombing to the Martin incident and I'll link it at the end of the post. But essentially Theo has the chance to "save" Audrey's counterpart in the novel (Boris) from death in a way he could not save his mother -- essentially healing his own old wound and guilt. He chooses to give up TGF and save Boris' life, the opposite of what he (traumatized) feels he could have done at the museum and didn't. This is a hugely important bookend to Theo's trauma -- and the Martin scene references NY and Theo flashing back through sense-memory several times to drive that point home. The connection between Audrey and Boris.

Audrey and Boris parallel throughout the whole novel! We are meant to see that as readers and know they are connected in Theo's life and that they play on his same heartstrings.
