Calling someone an international musician remains quite a weird thing to do. I mean, what is my syntagm trying to achieve here? Let us check this on a case of Sarah Brightman. She's a British singer, yet you couldn't tell this from her albums, they have a distinct European flavour. You see, her works move within the field that corresponds with pop, classical and rock. They sort of remind me of Enigma in a way, had the latter project been streamlined into a pop band with a female singer that has a penchant for opera. Of course, she collaborated with one of the coworkers of Michael Cretu on her albums. However, her choice of songs also shows a sensibility that looks beyond all borders. I mean, she covered a great German rock song on the link.

I love this question! I am constantly seeking for books that feel like Girl Out Boy because I want to live in that muggy girlspace at all times. These cut a wide swath of genres and probably only 2 of them are genuine read-alikes in tone; the rest share a headspace or ethos or were otherwise important in shaping that world. Nancy Nowak holds an MFA in Poetry from Sarah Lawrence College, New York. Her poetry has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including Poetry Northwest, Comstock Review, Willows Wept Review, The Zeppelin Reader, and Windblown Sheets: Poems by Mothers and Daughters. Much of her published work can be found at nancynowakpoetry.com. She met her husband Jon Leach, an abstract artist, in New York City. In 1994, they moved to Southern Oregon, where as an Associate Professor of Humanities, she taught writing and poetry until she retired in 2016. Her beloved Jon died in 2020; she remains in their home on the South Umpqua River in Winston, Oregon.
