Analyze
To get better in touch with our research topic, we are analyzing some blogs of known Tumblr-users. First question is: “How do we feel about their posts?” “What thoughts arise in our heads?” “Are we rather pleased or disgusted?”

Like many great to-do's, it commences with a magazine. So, congrats to @frieze_magazine, who toast their 200th issue this week in conjunction with the launch of Frieze Los Angeles, the brand's third art fair and its first in the city of Angels. Hit flaunt.com to see a sampling of memorable Frieze covers, as chosen by Frieze’s editorial team, and keep eyes peeled for our dibble dabble about town this week, including the release of our Spring Fashion Issue, The Elemental Issue: Amalgamate Me! In order of appearance: Issue 97 by Mike Kelley Issue 00 by Damien Hirst Issue 181 by Sara Cwynar Issue 62 by Mark Leckey Issue 162 by Ebony Patterson #MikeKelley #SaraCwynar #DamienHirst #MarkLeckey #ebonypatterson #friezemagazine #frieze #frieze200

Glitch Project 2: Artist Statement
“The term glitch is generally used to describe a short-lived fault in a system, or a break from a flow within a system, which was designed to work as a coherent entity and to follow its set of objectives” (Menkman)
As such is the case I really wanted to create a fault in a more natural system. I was inspired to do it this way by Sara Cwynar who made her glitch art by bumping a scanner while it’s trying to scan something. I found this way of creating a GIF inspiring and original and I wanted to follow down that path.
Camera’s have always fascinated me so I knew I wanted to make a GIF that’s related directly to the process of taking a picture. As such is the case, I wanted to create my glitch by breaking the flow in my camera lens and I did that by adding some distortion to the outer layer of the lens, mimicking a glitching technique known as ‘light leaking’.
I found out about light leaking from a glitch artistic called James Miller. James removes part of a Nikon lens and literally whacks the lens to get the result. I only had canon lens to use for this project so instead of removing and whacking the lens itself, I distorted the light in another way, creating a light leaking glitch result by adding a layer to the lens instead of taking it away. Jame’s projects are mainly video based but light leaking adds some really interesting elements to a video and creates constant completely unexpected moments of focus within the video, adding a deeper level of spontaneity beyond your control. Though this level of spontaneity cannot be completely replicated in still imagery compared to video, I still personally think that deep level can still be achieved to some degree and still gives off an interesting effect,
According to pure-Spirit.com, “The bee symbolizes community, brightness and personal power.” In this Glitch art I used Honey on the lens along to create my glitch and cause an effect similar to light leaking.
I used honey on the lens to get the glitch from the light. What I took a picture of was a natural honeycomb, with several pieces of honeycomb cereal surrounding it. The honey on the lens distorts both the fake and real honeycomb in a way that makes it start to blend together so parts becomes completely indistinguishable from each other.
This symbolizes how in society our sense of community and personal power is becoming artificial, and will slowly become indistinguishable from the natural. We are completely losing our grasp on what is real and what is just another factory made concept of the self and the community. It’s all just one blurred abstraction of itself.
