Nabuzardan a Palazzo Te. #notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article

Musicals based on history/true stories that aren’t Hamilton (most of which are better imo)
my personal faves are bolded
- lizzie: THIS FUCKING SHOW OKAY— 1. all women cast. 2. lesbians. 3. sickass rock score. based on the borden axe murders (tw for murder, sexual abuse, and animal abuse)
- assassins: i fucking love this show ok. if you’ve seen the politician, yes it’s a real sondheim show about (most of) the people who killed (or tried to kill) us presidents. (tw for murder obv, suicide, and the n-word is used once)
- six: if you’re on tiktok, you probably know about it. i always said it’s like if lady gaga wrote hamilton. based on the six wives of henry viii (tw for death and some sexual assault mention?)
- catch me if you can: two words: Aaron Tveit. based on the autobiography of frank abangale jr, a conman during the 60s (based on the movie!) oh also kerry butler and norbert leo butz r in it
- jesus christ superstar: okay hear me out. alw wrote this without the intention of religion, he wrote it to tell a story of someone who was in the right place at the right time. written in the 70s and full of absolute bangers. the recent nbc version featured John legend, Sara barrellies, Jason tam, and Brandon victor Dixon. tw for death obv
- evita: okay so there is a total whitewashing issue with this cast, but the music really does slap. alw back at it again and you can’t move an inch in any direction of the theatre fandom without knowing don’t cry for me Argentina exists. tw for death
- 1776: this is an older one, but my local library had the movie, so i watched it. Hamilton actually references this show (“sit down, John, you FAT MOTHER-“ is a reference to one of the best songs from the show, sit down John.) and the music vibes. it’s a pretty short soundtrack, so definitely recommend. there’s a weird song about slaves in there somewhere but they don’t say the n word or anything in it, I’ll have to listen actively if there is an issue.
feel free to add!
UPDATE: others that i love sm and totally forgot abt bc this is an old draft
- fun home: inspired by the book of the same name! tells the story of Alison bechdel; a lesbian cartoonist. first broadway musical with a lesbian protag, very gay, jenn colella and Caitlin kinunen (I cant spell it’s fine) were in a reading of it as Alison and medium Alison respectively. oh Michael Cerveris too. tw for death, a literal song about kids having fun in a funeral home, and suicide (mentioned multiple times, given a visual description and acted upon)
- Bonnie and Clyde: cmon. it’s Jeremy jordan and Laura osnes, need I say more? Oh also Louis Hobson from n2n is in it as the antagonist. not gay but it’s the 20s and the music slaps hard. also harmonies that could literally kill. tw for death, murder, guns, crime, I think that’s it?
- come from away: probably my favorite show on bway rn. absolutely gorgeous show about the planes rerouted to Newfoundland, Canada after 9/11. shows the impact on real life people in multiple situations, how minorities are impacted, etc. tw for Muslim hate, 9/11, death mentions, I think that’s it?
- parade: haven’t heard it all, but the one song I have heard is amazing. Based on the true story of a Jewish man being sentenced to death (I believe?) after a false accusation of him raping a young girl. tw for rape, death mention, probably some antisemitism (again, haven’t heard it all the way)
These two are more so period pieces inspired by true events but nonetheless
- ragtime: haven’t heard it but I’ve heard it’s really good. talks about three different groups in the early 20th century America (African Americans, Jewish Latvian immigrants, and an upper class family)
- miss Saigon: original production is kinda a big yikes but the music is good. they’ve noted some of the error of their ways and there is no more yellow face and there is actual Vietnamese rather than gibberish in the show now. Pulls a lot of white savior bullshit too. (ppl can stop telling me about how problematic this show is because I’m fucking aware, okay? That’s why I wrote disclaimers. Jesus Christ.) About the Vietnam war. tw for death, war, prostitution

E dunque... a presto! #bookstagram #instabook #lgbtqia #lgbtq #antologia #racconti #donazione #beneficenza #refugelgbt #aChorusRainbow #rainbow #libri #libridaleggere #comingsoon #gaycenter https://www.instagram.com/p/CbImAkLM6lx/?utm_medium=tumblr

5 good (and gay) things that happened this week: 11/4 – 11/10
Hey, guess what? This week was pretty ok! Are you ready for some good and gay things?   1. Starbucks is getting merry and gay for the holidays. PSL…does it really mean Pumpkin Spice Lesbian? As Starbucks unveiled their holiday cups this year, their promo video featured a sweet lady couple leaning in to share a kiss, and probably a slice gingerbread pound cake.   2. Seattle has a lesbian mayor! This week’s elections were pretty awesome, and included many women of color and LGBTQ folks scoring seats across the country. Among those wins, Seattle welcomed former US Attorney Jenny Durkan as its new mayor. Not only is she the first woman mayor in nearly a hundred years in Seattle, she’s also the first lesbian in the office. Here she is celebrating her victory. (via Facebook) 3. Speaking of politics, Palm Springs got super queer this week: With the election of Lisa Middleton and Christy Holstege this week, the entire Palm Springs City Council is openly LGBTQ. I want to go to there. 4. Tegan and Sara team up with a fan artist for a new video for The Con X: Covers: If you’re a T&S fan then you’re probably already listening your way through The Con X: Covers, a tribute to the twins beloved album which came out ten years ago. In “Nineteen” Paramore singer Hayley Williams turns the heartbreaker into a slow burn of a song. Artist Kristine Thune’s fan videos from ten years ago, have been recut and redone to match the tone of Williams’ cover and the result is remarkable.   5. Lena Waithe, Billy Jean King, Angela Robinson and more make the Out 100 list: Actress and writer Lena Waithe was named Artist of the Year in Out Magazine’s Out 100 list, and quite a few lesbian, bi and queer women were also honored. Among them, actress Shannon Purser (Stranger Things), Broadway star Jenn Colella, and director Angela Robinson.   via Out http://dlvr.it/Q0G4v7

"Come From Away" show #637
Come From Away is the story of a small town, Gander, taking in thousands of American flight passengers from their diverted landings on September 11, 2001, nearly doubling the town’s population in a matter of hours. As the Canadians step up to feed and shelter the onslaught of Americans during the five-day marathon, connections, friendships, and relationships are formed. Tony-winner Christopher Ashley helmed this amazingly touching production, a musical that is incredibly sensitive at handling the emotions associated with those who remember that tragic day. Irene Sankoff and David Hein have written a script and score that deals with both Gander residents and the American passengers who are thrown into a situation neither groups desired. What comes out of it though is an appreciation for helping people, regardless of gender, sexual preference, race, or any other discriminating trait. Though it may not have been awarded this year’s Tony for Best Musical I assure you this is the best musical currently playing in a Broadway house.
This intermission-less musical has an ensemble cast of twelve incredibly talented performers, flawlessly switching dialects and emotions on a dime as they bounce between Gander residents and Americans. The structure of the book and score embeds the music within the book in such a way that there are seldom moments of true solo/duet turns, but a constant string of storytelling that is simply set to music. This is beautifully handled by Mr. Ashley’s fluid staging and Kelly Devine’s seamless choreography. The cast executes Miss Devine’s pulsating movement with finesse and true storytelling commitment, constantly making eye contact with one another and connecting as a cast rather than just facing the audience and “performing” the number. The cast never loses their connection with one another, a factor that elevates Come From Away to a compelling level most musicals never achieve.

Mr. Ashley’s staging of scene transitions, on-stage costume changes, and location changes ensures that the entire performance is a nonstop roller coaster of emotions, uniquely highlighted and brought forth at various spots on the stage, aided heavily by Howell Binkley’s excellent lighting design. What makes Come From Away such an emotionally responsible musical is that the writers and director tell the audience exactly how to feel at every moment; whether it’s a funny joke, a clever line, or an intimate pause, the audience always knows where they should be emotionally. However, this is achieved through pure seizing of the moment and honesty in the performance. Not once does the script, score, staging, or cast annoyingly or self-righteously beg for your sympathy, applause, or laughs; they earn it, from the powerful opening number “Welcome to the Rock,” through the band’s curtain call number. What makes Come From Away such an emotionally intelligent musical is that each of the recurring characters embodied by the twelve actors have just enough song and scene time for the audience to deeply care about their journey, and look forward to having them come back throughout the production. Finally, the fluidity supporting the cast’s chameleon-like performances is Beowulf Boritt’s fantastic use of the turn table-centered scenic design, which truly marries Mr. Ashely’s and Miss Devine’s staging with the seamless writing of the script and score; all of these tech and creative decisions pay off big time in Come From Away.

Within the ensemble cast are a myriad of Broadway veterans who have come together to create a beautiful community of people. Kendra Kassebaum makes for an adorable newscaster, Janice, whose first day on the Gander news job is September 11th. Jenn Colella dons the vest as the flirty Annette in Gander and dons the wings and coat as Beverly, the pilot who landed the story’s featured flight. Miss Colella shines in a stirring memory solo, “Me and the Sky,” backed up wonderfully by the rest of the female cast. It’s in this song where she demonstrates how a solo can be performed as a monologue that is simply delivered on pitch; her words exude emotion and paint the picture, she tells the story and shows us the story with her face, gestures, and posture. It’s not just a time for her to shine vocally, but a musical theatre acting lesson in just a brief 11 o’clock number. Chad Kimball provides a loveable turn as Kevin T./Garth, and his baritone twang is a welcomed voice among the collectively strong sounding cast. Joel Hatch delivers a memorable performance as mayor of Gander, Claude, with his strong narrating presence, excellent leadership of “Screech In,” and hospitable demeanor that makes his mayor a standard for all other future mayor roles.
(Down Left: Jenn Colella (pictured as Beverly), Up Right: Cast of Come From Away; Photo Credit: Sara Krulwich)
This is a show where the musicians making up the band are not to be ignored. Ian Eisendrath, Ben Power, Caitlin Warbelow, Alec Berlin, Nate Lueck, Carl Carter, Romano Di Nillo, and Larry Lelli bring the score to exuberant life, and even get their own rightfully-earned times to shine in the Newfoundlander romp, “Screech In,” and with their own curtain call bash after the “Finale.” One comes away from Come From Away emotionally-drained (in a good way) and stunningly impressed at how well the musical honors not just those who lost their lives or lost someone on September 11th, but how well it honors humanity, kindness, and hospitality. This musical is based on an absolutely true event of a true town with real people. Come From Away deserves your attendance and demands your emotional availability, and no, they don’t have to force it by any means.
