It’s only when Pete’s full face is in view that Vegas understands, and forgets how to breathe. The look in Pete's eyes — Vegas is finally able to name the expression. Deranged. He’s like a wild animal on the hunt, coiled tight, ready to strike, nowhere near satiated by the death he’s already wrought with his fists and his knife and — His teeth. Pete’s lips slowly stretch over his face like the cut of a curved blade, feral and hungry, teeth stained red with blood. Vegas stands rooted to the spot, paralyzed by the look in his lover’s eyes, the message in his smile. Vegas knows that smile, knows exactly what it means. His men are waiting on his orders, but they’re not expecting it to be, “Out.”

Or: Pete gets kidnapped, and by the time Vegas gets there, Pete has already taken care of his captors but is struggling to come back down to earth.

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

no doubts here. it was reignite, which is a fic that i wrote about namphueng for kpweek. i have so many feelings about her and i just had to yeet them out of my brain and onto the internet and i was like haha. this is fucking weird and depressing and niche and people aren't gonna find it

and then people found it and read it and LOVED IT, especially on tumblr, and i was so shocked!!! i guess there are a lot of people out there who are also, like me, chomping at the bit for namphueng content. i was thrilled people enjoyed it and i was ecstatic that people thought it was good, since i had never written anything suspenseful before. if you left any sort of note on that fic or on the tumblr post, i saw it and looked at it 2000 times and cherished it a lot, so thank you ❤️ it gave me the courage to keep writing in styles / genres i had never tried before.

10. What work was the quickest to write?

depends on how you define quickest. mvp took me an hour, maybe? so the shortest amount of time, but it's under 1K. that one is macau and pete shenanigans and that shit just flows out of my hands with complete ease, it's crazy.

the one i wrote at the fastest rate was blindside, which was 4K in 4 hours, which is NUTS. i have never in my life achieved that kind of total writing focus and speed. once again it is the wonder duo macau and pete, though, so i'm sensing a pattern here.

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

hahaha. it's kinn!

idk what it is about him, but he is SO HARD TO WRITE. either he comes off too soft, or too harsh, or too flirty and not lame enough. any dialogue i wrote for him just felt wrong, or i had to rewrite it a billion times. i think this is a testament to how well mile played kinn, where he managed to nail all these conflicting facets of his personality in the way he said kinn's lines, and i just have a super hard time putting that energy on paper.

(the fic where i painstakingly wrote the bulk of my kinn dialogue is a wip, and it might be a wip forever, and it's partially for this reason 😅 but also because i desperately wanted to write vegaspete and so i switched to doing that and now i'm trapped until the end of time)

I'll try to add onto this as I read more, but suffice to say that having enmeshed myself into the world of Ao3's Kimchay tag for the past seven months, I have definitely found some hidden jewels that I highly recommend you give a go if you can! :3 I read all kinds, if you're looking for something out of the ordinary and special! And yes, I also read smut gratuitously, so there will be a handful of that as well here!

I myself also write, but I only have one ongoing Kimchay fic at the moment, if you'd like to give my work a shot!

come home by reasonwasoutforlunch (@emmelineprufrock) Eldritch!Horror Kimchay, monsterfucking, memory alteration shenanigans, supernatural elements, etc. Comments - This is one of the most beautiful and haunting Kimchay fics I've ever read and thus, one of my ultra faves the fandom has to offer; the prose is so elegant, and the horror elements (Tankhun's mindset and abilities are fucking scary and nerve-wracking, but he loves his brothers, //sobs) the author implements just works for the overall setting. I first read this fic at work a few weeks back, and believe you me, it's still churning around my noggin. Like, for reals, this is one of those fics that just stays with you for some time, yknow? I definitely want to draw something for it in the near future!

there is no time for this by heedoyurims (@radishayuan) Kimchay smoochies while there's a gunfight outside. Comments - I love reading short pieces like this, and the author does such a wonderful job creating the atmosphere between these two lovebirds. You can just feel the want and desperation between Kim and Chay in this fic, and I regularly go back to it since it gives me wonderful art inspo!

ninety-six hours (KimPorchay) by coldeyesroni (Twitter - soobellus) Novel!verse, canon-divergence. Kim and Chay meet while Kinn and Porsche are lost in the woods. Incomplete, but each fic in the series can be read as a stand-alone. Comments - Such an awesome read when I first stumbled across it a few months ago! The chemistry between Kim and Chay is electrifying, and the author does a marvelous job of hinting at the different aspects of Kim's character. Highly recommend so you can get a taste of how Kimchay is in the book!

wolf house by venagrey (@venagrey) Dystopian, Dubious Consent, ABO Dynamics (Alpha!Kim/Omega!Chay), Wolfboy!Kim agenda, Feral Kimchay agenda, Respect the Sex Workers. Comments - Honestly, every fic Vena has written for Kimchay is to die for (this fic is but one of them), and I am one of those on my last ounce of life whenever I read their work, for reals. Vena's world building when it comes to their fics is incredibly rich, detailed, and just freaking phenomenal. Vena is truly #writinggoals. They never fail to build the tension and rawness that surrounds Kimchay's relationship, and I am HERE for it. Wolf House in particular reads like a classy, vibrant noir film to me, so it's definitely one of my most favorite fics in the fandom! Definitely art inspo material!!

Reversible Error by saturnscoded (Twitter - saturnscoded) Lawyers!Kimchay, canon-divergence, Angst, friends to enemies to frenemies to lovers, Porsche goes to jail for a crime he didn't commit. Comments - A true comfort fic for me. It's a marvelous AU that the author has created for Kimchay, and the tug and pull of their tense working relationship never fails to make me both swoon and breathless. The author also does a good job of highlighting Chay as a very determined and brave character with real human flaws, which I truly appreciate and can never get enough of.

Year of the OTP (Kimchay Edition) by sapphicblight (@sapphicblight) weathered down by pouring rain ain't no time for talking when we're tongue tied blow out all the candles Canon-compliant, Reconciliation, Post-Canon, Mutual Pining, Light Angst. Comments - When it comes to a good 'ol reconciliation fic, this author is among one of the best! <3 I love this author's characterization of Chay specifically, and how much of a simp their Kim is. Their fics are my comfort zone, and on bad days at work, I often turn to their fics to get me through the day. Their Year of the OTP fics are all marvelous in their own right, but I wanted to take the time to list out my favorites from the ongoing list. They also have a Hanahaki fic that never fails to make me cry and which features 2 endings, so like—whichever you’re in the mood for in terms of ending, this author’s got you covered. XD Please give their stuff a read whenever you can, they're like balls of sunshine that'll make your day better~

Stain of Sun by Lilla_Torg (@lillatorg) Hacker!Porsche and Grifter!Chay, Aged-up characters, ABO Dynamics (Alpha!Kim/Omega!Chay), Mating Bonds, takedown scheme gone wrong. Comments - All of this author's works for KP are truly stunning, and I have them all on my iPad for my regular reading pleasure. Their worldbuilding is downright amazing; particularly with Stain of Sun, it's a fast-paced story that keeps you on the edge of your seat with its twists and turns (I love me one crafty Chay, Your Honor). I genuinely admire this author's prowess when it comes to dialogue as well, and they do an awesome job at balancing out the three main ships. Definitely recommend this author's works! <3

Chains And Crowns, A Flower Can Both Make by Sweet_William (@sweet-william-writes) Regency Era!Kimchay, Arranged Marriage, Hints of MPreg, Angst. Comments - Listen, I am a sucker for Regency fics of my ships, and this fic definitely delivers, okay! I love this one-shot fic to pieces, and it's also a work I regularly go back to and reread! The dialogue of the era is perfectly captured by this amazing, brilliant author, and the smut ofc is to die for! The Kim in this fic doesn't know how to communicate his feelings very well, but he's trying dammit, he's so much in love with his gorgeous wife and I. AM. HERE. FOR. IT. They do a lot of dead dove KimChay fics as well, so if you think you’re up for it and can handle the glorious madness this author writes, I also highly recommend them~

You are my last peace by nubeazul Light Angst, Reconciliation, Domestic Bliss, Fluff Comments - This author’s post-canon fics for KimChay are so poignant and lovely, I love them so much. There’s a softness to their KimChay that I appreciate so much, especially since we hardly get any domestic scenes of KimChay together in the show, yknow?

Whiskey Sour by alphanetic Canon-divergent, Angst, Reconciliation, the Kittisawasd siblings disappear after they are threatened by Korn. Comments - Say what you will, but I am a hopeless romantic/sucker for “I will find you to the ends of the Earth” kinda vibe fics, yknow? And this fic just satisfies that trope so very well for me. The desperation of the chase, the unhinged pleas to return home, I just love it so much. This fic is actually part of a series called Alcoholism, in which the author delves into KinnPorsche and Kimchay’s respective relationships from a variety of different angles, both canon-divergent and canon-compliant. I always love me a versatile author, so I definitely recommend their works! //chef’s kiss

The Success by s6115 Werewolves, Some body horror, elements of Teen Wolf and the Dread Doctors, non-linear narrative, Chay is dying from a certain condition, and Porsche chooses to make his little brother’s last days count. Comments - One of the very first KP fics I ever read for this fandom, and still one of my most favorites. This one isn’t actually centered on Kimchay, but Kimchay is featured in the story. Truthfully, I’m in love with this author’s world building of their fic, and the marvelous way in which they’re able to really establish the tension and fear that Porsche and Chay go through due to their condition. The story reads like a high-stakes adventure with lots of angst and dealing with impending death; it’s very dark in some places, very intense in some, but at the end of it all, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And by that I mean it’s a happy ending, despite my short summary. XD

Hunting Down the Bambi by fancifulnim (@fancifulnim) Canon-Divergence, Suicide Attempt, Non-Consensual Touching/Kissing, Toxic Relationship, but when all is said and done, they’re gonna make it work somehow. Comments - Another fic that was one of the very first I came across for this fandom and thus, one of my most favorite and holds a special place in my heart. To this day out of all the fics I’ve ever read for Kimchay, the characterization of Kim from this particular work is definitely the darkest I’ve read, and to be frank? I just love it so much. This fic is wonderfully a partial thought-provoking character introspection piece, as well as a vibrant experiment of seeing how far down the rabbit hole one can go for this ship. I still re-read it regularly, so I highly recommend it, if you’re willing to give this author’s Kimchay a shot!

In this Moment (Picture Perfect) by eggwars (@eggwars) Canon Compliant, Character Study, Missing Scene, Fluff, Sweet Kimchay, set during before the break-up Comments - Such a fluffy, wonderful fic! <3 Perfect for any day, any time! I read this one on a particularly bad day at work, and lemme tell you, it did wonders for lifting up my mood (the text messages were so cute, omfg)! This is definitely a scene I can picture happening in the show, considering for at least half their airtime, Kimchay were pretty much off in their own little world and playing out the Wattpad story of Chay's dreams. Lol It's a brilliant piece that also explores Kim's different facets and how he's seamlessly able to create some semblance of order in his lifestyle, despite his two opposing careers. The fic is heartfelt and tugs at your heartstrings with the sweet innocence of their relationship in the beginning~ Ah, I love it so much!

Kinnporsche Fic Rec to heal your soul

Hello beautiful people, i did a thing!

i decided to compile my own fic rec list to navigate through these absolutely muddy waters and to pamper ourselves a little after these frankly very dark times. One thing this fandom has is incredibly talented writers, so i think we should all share a little love for them.

I usually read VegasPete and KimChay, but feel free to add whatever you think may be nice and juicy.

I tend to go for completed stories, with obvious exceptions (meaning, when a story is so good I have not the patience to wait). 

There is no specific order in this list, except for the time stamp on my ao3 bookmarks. Also, i always forget to bookmark my stories, so i will come and update this whenever i think an addition is needed. (AO3 decided to die while i was going through my bookmarks, that’s a personal attack).

So here we go. 

Let’s start with some classics (which means I love this author so much, I will just go and recommend every single thing they write). 

There is not a single fanfiction from Lise I don’t like. They are my ride or die vegaspete ff writer, they get the characters so well, you’ll either sob or cackle at some of Pete or Vegas quirks. My personal favorites are Walking Shadows (Vegas dealing with his own demons while realizing that, you know, Pete could be a slightly bit touched by the whole safehouse ordeal), Liability (Vegas gets hurt and Pete just can’t deal with that) and Once you are real (an amazing insight on Pete’s necessity to be seen. Sometimes). 

fuse by Artemis_on_high. [VP] Vegas and Pete fight, Pete gets offended, Vegas grovels. Deliciously angsty, there are kitten involved, it is so very beautiful

the cause and effect series by sapphicblight. [VP] Pete is a virgin, Vegas has a thing for virgins and they lived happily ever after. No seriously, currently there are two stories in the series, but they are funny to read, there is the right amount of conflict and the smut is spectacular. 

nota bene by jalesidor. [VP] Look, remember when I said I usually don’t read aything but completed stories? I was, in fact, lying. It’s a canon-divergent take on Vegas and Pete relationship, with a deliciously whipped Vegas and a stubborn as hell Pete. The first chapter had me in tears (both for the tension and the comedian Vegas can be sometimes) and from that moment on, I was hooked. Again, all of jalesidor’s stories are gorgeous, you won’t regret reading them!

dancing in a snow globe by incendir.  [VP] A wonderful narration of vegas and pete relationship through the eyes of pete. It has everything: sweetness, angst, codependency. Absolutely a favorite of mine.

discothéque rouge by lusn. lusn is another absolute favorite author of mine, I love everything they write, but this one is such a gem. It has bamf Pete, actions scenes, hot closet sex. It is wonderful. They wrote a couple of Macau centric stories too which had me bawling, so yeah. 

Home is Where Your Teeth Think, Love by timetoboldlygo. [VP] Guys, guys. I am a sucker for hurt/comfort and for the angsty exes trope and this has both. Pete and Vegas here have broken up by the time canon starts, and we see them being happy through Pete’s memories, who is on his own journey to find himself and his purpose of life (I think). It is delicious. It is also uncomplete and hasn’t been updated in a while, but I still recommend reading it because it is an amazing story. 

Black Velvet by kerrikins. [VP] A classic of the fandom, but a classic is a classic for reasons! Canon divergent and compliant, enemies to lovers, hot smut, tears-inducing angst. I loved it. Again, the kinnporsche fandom is full of talented people, so again, I do recommend every single fanfiction kerrikins wrote. 

Silver circle by greygerbil. [VP] Pete goes undercover on a mission posing as Vegas’ twink of the moment. Things happen and Vegas turns meow meow. I loved it

I’ll Swear That I Loved You by YourKnightOfRage. [VP] Not usually a big fan of the memory loss trope but omg this story was so good! You know the drill by now, delicious hurt/comfort, steamy sex, some kind of miscommunication and vegas being very much whipped

The Pain & Pleasure series by onstoryladders. [VP] this features tattoo artist!Vegas and masochist Pete. It’s actually very sweet (and hot), also kind of refreshing! Loved it!

long story short, it was always you by hawkshadow. [VP] oh god where do i even start with this. It has boxer!pete and mafia!vegas, their relationship is messy but the christmas magic fixes it all. It is a little masterpiece, seriously. Also here, hawkshadow’s stories are all amazing, i read them all more than once!

the whole Checkmate series by majestictortoise [VP/KP/KC]. This canon divergent series is so good omg, every story focuses on one specific character and they’re all amazing. I love the way the author portrays Kim, Vegas and Kinn, i am hooked. Excellent rereading value too.

The idiots & idioms series by snickerdoodlles [KC]. A very fluffy and cute social media au, i specifically recommend it for when you’re sad. It will warm your heart.

A Guide to Live A Mafia-Adjacent Life by puckbaes [KC] THIS STORY IS SO GOOD OMG. Sorry, I have very strong feelings about post canon KimChay, and this story nails them all. Seriously, puckbaes is an amazing writer, all of their stories are amazing, 100% recommend them, especially if you like reading about Porchay not taking attitude from anyone.

Even when I’m not with you by booknchocolate. [KC] Guys, GUYS. This topped my list of favorite kimchay stories in like, minutes. (Very) post-canon kc, chay is a doctor, kim is a menace. Chay goes through a lot in this, but it is an amazing ff, i want people to write fanfictions about this ff, it’s this good

Fractures On My Bones by venagrey [KC]. What can i say more then: shadow and bones au! This is a painfully beautiful read, i don’t even know what to say, just read it!

never date your heroes by venagrey [KC]. Ah, this has idol!wik being an ass to chay as a premise, but ending up being the usual whipped!kim we all love. it’s an amazing story, again, venagrey is a gem, everything they write is beautiful

life’s too short to drink bad wine by silver_etoile [VP] this is filthy smut and amazing wine, basically the reasons i keep living

love you for a second time by LilyMaxwell [VP]. I usually don’t love the hananaki disease trope, but this story had me in a chokehold. Also, Pete is a minor family bodyguard in this, it is lovely

the Power series by evashuogouki [VP]. Darker post canon Vegaspete. in these stories they’re pretty unhinged so please do mind the tags. If you find those won’t bother you, then be my guest and have a wild ride.

Yknow, I know a KP season 2 is never gonna happen, but once in awhile, it’s fun to daydream yknow? And when I start daydreaming, a part of me always has a gut reaction to just hope for a time skip. Maybe two or three years, I don’t know, but somehow I’m just more drawn to the idea of there being part of the story that we’ll never really know what happens. 🤔

And ngl, I think it’s because I’ve grown so attached to some of the KimChay reconciliation fics I’ve read throughout the year and a half I’ve been in this fandom that I just know whatever BOC could come up with won’t hold a candle to the masterpieces I’ve read.

the names of falling stars by @venagrey for one, comes to mind. One Spelt Cookie at a Time by Jet21, a brilliant piece of writing, and of course all of @sapphicblight’s KimChay’s reconciliation fics, which I will horde to my grave.
