happy halloween!!! 🎃
this piece will be featured in the newport retro halloween zine! you can find more info here :)
so, more on the piece down here! I love dressing my ocs up as Various Creatures every year. since the angle for the zine was retro horror, I went with mostly 90s and before era scary stuff:
the book cover being a parody of goosebumps, my favorite childhood horror series when I was 9-10.
sapote is a reference to slashers/the shining, persimmon is a classic alien monster from retro scifi horror, cara is the creature from the black lagoon (also loosely a reference to her outfit from last years halloween drawing!),
aqua is sadako from the ring, masayume is a nekomata, and mira is of course the oblivious horror movie protagonist with her music Way Too Loud (...or is she obvious? maybe all these girls are just her friends?? 🤔)
the coloring style itself is supposed to resemble older comics, too! (it might not look like it, but it was actually REALLY tedious to color it the way I did...mostly with cmyk halftones, each color took 2-3 layers of stacking the colored dots then adjusting to get them to the right color..that being said I think the result is worth it because I Love it :3) if anyone would like to color this themselves (maybe actually paint it in the traditional goosebumps style??) the lineart is on my kofi for members as a coloring page ^_^

hi hi! could I request a Pitaya Dragon x Dark Cacao fan child? an example of a name might be dragonfruit choco, which my friend came up with for this ship they came up with. their dynamic is two big guys with swords and anger issues that are besties but also maybe more??? :000
oh and snapcube sonic and shadow
Tumblr media
I only realized now that there was a suggestion for the character. Sorry about that. Anyways, this here is Dark Sapote Cookie
Also one thing to note, I basically had Dark Sapote finished months ago. I think you can tell by the way their lineart doesn’t entirely match what I do now. Literally all that was left was the sketch, which I did today. There’s another fankid in that boat, so she might get posted today too (among others that I just have forgotten to post)
But also on top of that, it’s been a good while since I’ve thought about Dark Sapote, so I may miss some stuff
Anyways, on to Dark Sapote. They’re half dragon and live in the Dark Cacao Kingdom. They have a more dragon like form they can transform into, though it’s more of a drake than a dragon, and they don’t turn into it often. They’re technically an heir to the Dark Cacao Kingdom throne, but they don’t do much of anything, so they aren’t really considered such. They also choose to live outside of the Citadel in a cave somewhere
Dark Sapote is extremely chill and often very sleepy, to the point where they’re pretty lazy. However, this isn’t entirely due to their nature, but rather due to the temperature. Because the kingdom is so cold, their body’s essentially in a low power state, as they subconsciously are in a brumation state, but also aren’t reptilian enough to actually go into it, so they’re just stuck like this. And they specifically have this problem because Pitaya is from a tropical and more fiery climate, and Dark Sapote inherited biology for a warmer climate, not a colder one. No one is really aware that this is the reason Dark Sapote is like this, not even Dark Sapote themself
In higher temperatures, they become more active and energetic, and in addition they become more powerful. But because they live where their power is dampened pretty much all the time, they don’t have the best grasp on their full power. If they were to go to say, Dragon’s Valley, they’d likely unleash mayhem with their uncontrollable power. Not quite sure how they haven’t encountered this problem yet, but whatever
They grew up in the Dark Cacao Kingdom simply because they liked Dark Cacao more than Pitaya, but they kind of all unwittingly created this giant problem for Dark Sapote, leaving them in this state
Anyways, on to the design
So Dark Sapote is a name I’ve had on file for a long time, after I discovered the existence of black sapotes, which is what they’re based on. Black sapotes are a tropical fruit like pitaya, and apparently when ripe, they taste similar to chocolate pudding
Black sapote:
Tumblr media
So to look for things to say on their design, I watched the time lapse video Procreate makes, and now I remember, Dark Sapote was hell to design. And if I’m being honest, I think the rough sketch is the best version of them
They were apparently originally going to have horns or a crown of sorts, but I decided against it or it just didn’t work. Side note, but I need to give my characters more accessories, especially in the hair. That’s how they end up looking so plain
Their hair is supposed to be the same between the sketch and the final design, but you can’t really see it with the pose. Apparently I tried other hairstyles that would make it visible but for some reason I decided against them
Their side hair thing is supposed to be from Pitaya, with their side bang things, but I don’t think I executed it super well
The colors on the armor were such a pain, mostly because Dark Sapote has so many dark colors, making them all blend in with each other and the black lineart (I only color it at the end once colors are finalized). That was what made me shelve them for so long, because I couldn’t get them to look right, until one day I came back and was like “yeah good enough” and colored the lines, and then left because I was out at the time
Also the colors themselves aren’t the most appealing. The green and brown come from the fruit itself, but they aren’t the nicest to look at
To be honest, I think Dark Sapote needs another shot at a design. The final product isn’t the worst, but it definitely could have turned out better. And also, I like their character
And yeah, that’s Dark Sapote. If you see a redesign of them later on, don’t be too surprised. But regardless, I hope you can enjoy them in some capacity

Tony knows that Peter's self-care is in the negative values.
Peter will barge into the lab with his bag slung over one shoulder and nearly dent the wall in his recklessness, and Tony can practically smell the sleep deprivation on him. He'll laugh it off, chide Peter a bit on watching his strength, but he sees it.
Happy will message him sometimes, something small like "kid's tired today" or "off day" (he appreciates it, despite his short one-word responses) and Tony sees it.
And, at the end of the week, Tony can only take so many drool stains on his desk.
The first time he tried to say it outright, Peter simply didn't receive it. It took two separate confrontations and a flu that Peter vehemently denied until his condition had every germ in the immediate vicinity feeling self-conscious for Tony to realize that his methods weren't working. He sat Peter down on the couch with an episode of Glee playing and came up with a damn plan.
He was going to fix this. If Peter noticed the suspicious timing of Tony's back pains or impromptu meetings that he had to wait in the lounge for, he didn't mention it. Tony had bullshit on hand wherever he went, quick-witted excuses on the tip of his tongue and Pepper on speed dial. I mean, come on, Tony was pretty damn quick — but not when it came to fake business calls. He spent too many meetings carefully mastering the art of Not Caring (read: having his head up his ass) to know how to navigate any meaningful business conversation. Pepper could lead.
So, eventually, every break that the two took became Tony's fault. Peter didn't have to feel guilty for interrupting Tony's work because of his own poor time management, and Tony didn't have to watch Peter drive himself deep into the hole that Tony was still trying to pull himself out of. Peter started joking again. Tony started to trust the kid enough to look away.
Long work nights turn into early ones with Tony's fingers hesitantly running through Peter's hair, the boy's face smashed unceremoniously into Tony's side. Tony rests easiest when he's doing it for someone else. These nights are slept through.

Black Sapote. People said it taste like chocolate pudding but I don’t think that’s true since I don’t like chocolate.

Chocolate Sapote Pie
Tumblr media
Hey 3WD, why are you making a vegan, gluten-free, no-processed-sugar dessert?  Well, you see, I have friends with many, many allergies and felt like a challenge.
This recipe is an experiment with Black Sapote (also called Chocolate Pudding Fruit) – a seasonal persimmon relative that’s high in Vitamin C and has a pudding-like flesh with mild chocolate and caramel notes.  While limited availability of Sapotes means it’s not as accessible as something like Chocolate Avocado Pie, it’s a fun thing to play with if you like poking around with the weird fruit section of produce markets (as a bonus, Black Sapotes were selling for $1-2 per fruit both times I visited).
Let's get cooking:
Kitchen equipment
Blender/food processor
Beaters (hand-crank or electric)
20cm (8 inch) springform cake tin
Baking/ Greaseproof paper
Fridge & Oven
Fine mesh sieve (or tea strainer)
Mixing bowls, spatula, knives, spoons etc.
Prep-time
Bench work: approx. 40 minutes
Oven time: approx. 30 minutes
Cooling time: approx. 2-3 hours (minimum)
Coconut cream chill time:  12 hours (minimum)*
*Coconut cream needs to be refrigerated for 12 hours in order to separate properly before whipping.  Put your cream in the fridge the night before.
Ingredients
Tumblr media
Pie crust
300g (10.5 Oz) pecans
4 large medjool dates (seeds removed, roughly chopped)
1 tsp salt
4 tbsp (approx. 60g/ 2 Oz) margarine, melted
Filling
2 large, ripe Black Sapotes*
1/2 cup (125mL) cocoa powder
4 large medjool dates (seeds removed, roughly chopped)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp espresso powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
*Black Sapotes are ripe when the skin has darkened to a dull green-brown and the fruit is very soft to the touch (it will look and feel over-ripe).
Topping
One 400mL (13.5 Fl Oz) can high-quality full-fat coconut cream*
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
Approx. 80g (3 Oz) pecans, toasted** and crumbled
Cocoa powder for dusting
*Use a premium quality coconut cream – the difference in price is very small and cheaper creams may not separate properly, which will stop them from whipping up. **Toast pecans by baking in a preheated 140°C/248°F (fan forced) oven for 15-30 minutes until done to your liking.
Instructions
Pie crust (Inspiration recipe)
Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F (fan forced).
Line the base and sides of the spring form pan with baking paper.  (Try to minimise wrinkles/folds in the paper lining – this will make it easier to remove the crust later.)
Place chopped dates, pecans and salt into a blender.  Blend until the mixture has the texture of breadcrumbs/ almond meal.
Stream in melted margarine and blend until completely combined (crumbs should stick together when pressed)
Press mixture into a firm, even layer across the base and up the sides of the spring form tin, using clean hands or the back of a spoon to smooth down.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust begins to brown.  (Watch closely after the 8-minute mark to prevent burning).
Remove from oven. If the crust has puffed up, press back down using the back of a spoon. (Tip: use a toothpick or fork to gently pop any large air-pockets in the base.)
Cool on a wire rack or heat-safe cutting board until the crust reaches room temperature.
Filling (Inspiration recipe)
Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F (fan forced).
Cut open the Black Sapotes.  Remove the seeds and scoop/scrape the flesh out with a spoon. (Note: because Black Sapote skin is very thin and soft when ripe, it cannot be traditionally peeled.)
Transfer one quarter of the fruit flesh to a blender, along with the chopped dates.  Process until completely smooth.
Transfer the sweetened sapote mixture into a bowl alongside the remaining sapote flesh.  Mix until completely combined (use your spoon or spatula to break down any lumps or fibers in the fruit flesh).
Fold in the cocoa powder, expresso powder, vanilla and salt until completely combined.  Taste for flavouring and adjust with more cocoa/vanilla/espresso/salt as desired.  (Note:  adding cocoa will increase the bitterness of the filling alongside the chocolate-y flavour.  This can be hard to counteract without adding sugar or blending in more dates so be careful how much you add at once.)
Transfer filling into your pre-prepared pecan crust.  Smooth the top with a spoon or spatula.
Bake for 20 minutes or until the filling is lightly firm to the touch.
Cool completely on a wire rack or heat-safe cutting board, then cover and transfer to the fridge until chilled through.
Cream Topping (Inspiration recipe)
Chill coconut cream for at least 12 hours.
Remove coconut cream from the fridge (Note:  DO NOT Shake).
Use a spoon to scoop out the thick cream that has risen to the top, leaving the watery parts behind.  (The more water is in your cream, the less firmly it will whip).  Transfer the thick cream to a bowl.  (Tip: have an extra jar of chilled cream on hand in case the cream yield from the first tin is low)
Add the vanilla and salt to the cream. Stir through, then taste test and adjust the vanilla/salt as needed. (Note: Like with plain dairy cream, this should taste more neutral than sweet).
Beat your cream, starting on a slow speed.  Gradually increase speed until whipped to thick, semi-stiff peaks. (Tip: if your cream is very soft to start with, try covering and chilling in the refrigerator to help it firm up.)
Remove the chilled sapote tart from the spring form pan. (Optional:  If the sides of your pecan crust are much taller than your filling, you can use a pair of clean, sharp kitchen scissors to trim it down.  Use a clean hand to shield the pie filling from any falling crust-crumbs).
Spoon the whipped cream onto the sapote filling, using the back of the spoon to make decorative swirls.  (Optional: use a piping bag with a decorative nozzle for a fancier top).
Sprinkle the cream with crumbled pecans.  Dust with cocoa powder using a fine sieve or tea-strainer.  (Note: Add the nuts first - otherwise the cocoa powder will prevent them from sticking to the cream, causing them to roll everywhere when the pie is cut).
Return to the fridge until the coconut cream is completely chilled.
Serve.

Random food I discovered today that I think would make an interesting Cookie Run character: black sapote
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They’re a tropical fruit related to persimmon that grow in the Central America area
I find them particularly interesting because they apparently taste like chocolate (and also caramel?), and they’re only ripe and good to eat when they look dark, rotted and kind of gross
I mention these things because I feel like there’s potential here for an interesting Cookie given those unique traits, I just don’t know what to do with it

mcu moots/followers ignore this post 🫶 it is a Completely different fandom but if u want to read then i will give you a delicate kiss on the cheek trust

“Is there anything Wukong could do that would break his hold over you?”
Macaque’s fingers curl around the edges of the sink.
The dojo is eerily silent, his six ears twitching at the lack of auditory stimulation. The quiet had been comfortable for a while, a refreshing change of pace from the howling of icy winds and the bone witch’s shrieking. This contentment lasted for a while — until the silence had wormed through his ears and settled with a slimy thunk onto his greedy heart.
Sometimes the organ would ooze something vile from its arteries; it would catch him off-guard, bubbling up through his throat and slipping down his cheeks in the form of hiccuping sobs and fingers tangled in his hair. He thinks that this feeling has a name, and he thinks that it starts with an ‘L’. He wouldn’t dare utter it.
Often, it would leave him curled up and keening on the floor. More often, the irregularity of the wetness on his face would cause his calloused fingers to reach up toward his eyes —
Eye. His singular eye — burning and puffy and littered with grains of soil.
Wukong couldn’t even grant him the mercy of pushing his eyelid shut before pouring the dirt over his battered body.
A growl rumbles its way past clenched teeth. Macaque’s godforsaken eye is glaring and offensive in its reflection, the shine a harsh contrast against the puckered tissue of his right. The scar rips from his eyebrow down to the top of his lip, the skin a mess of distorted flesh and matte crimson. He ducks his head with a wince.
He considered tearing into it again, feeling it fray and bubble around his yellowed nails, ripping away all the scar tissue so that it could heal all over again. At least then the damage would be his, and he could rid the sensation of cold metal from the socket.
The hole was such an ugly thing.
Macaque forces himself to lift his head again, glaring venomously at the simian that stared back. His lips were chapped. Even when he was doing nothing at all, his mouth found a way to fold into that horrible frown that pulled at the skin on his face and made the scar on his eye feel taut and thick. Staring into his eyes felt unfamiliar and impersonal, crushing in its detachment, but he had to do it.
He couldn’t let himself forget what Wukong did to him.
Macaque couldn’t let that stupid golden-furred monkey get his arms around him again, couldn’t stand to watch himself pad after the king with that stupid fluttering in his chest every time Wukong laid his stupid golden eyes on him.
Macaque had tried everything to rid his fur of Wukong’s touch, scrubbing his cheeks and his chest and the dips in his thighs and lower still, the ghost of previously loving touches feeling like acid against his skin. He grew his hair out. He used the shit out of glamours far more than he knows he should, his trembling limbs and bone-deep exhaustion nothing compared to the deep-seated resentment towards the old self that would allow Wukong to trace his thumb over his six ears and cause his tail to puff out and shiver. That old self of his was in pieces, lingering eternally beneath six feet of dirt.
If he saw past Macaque today he would grab him by the shoulders, with spit in his teeth and glamours torn off like shed to reveal every small atrocity littered across his skin.
Macaque would tell him to run, run away from the Monkey King. You are dirt beneath his nails. His betrayal will come swift and venomous.
He will leave you, and he will kill you.
A warrior's death is just as cruel as you fear it will be.
Past Macaque would argue back just as vehemently, defending his sun’s honor with young lungs that Macaque envied. Past Macaque would say that no, Wukong would never do that. He loves me and he needs me and he would never do that. Macaque wouldn’t say a word in response. He knows in his stomach that Wukong would, and he knows in his eye that Wukong did.
There's a faint scent of peaches lingering on past Macaque’s fur. Macaque banishes the fictional interaction from his head.
