This is my very personal Pokémon Reborn headcanon

One of the more interesting minor notes in the more recent Pokémon games is that different characters, such as the Team Star bosses, use different types of Pokéballs. It’s a neat characterization detail. So I thought I would apply to Reborn’s characters.

Also here’s some visual references:

Gym Leaders

Julia-Fast. Only her Voltorb and Electrode actually get the bonus from it. She uses it because it fits best with her pom-poms.

Florinia-Timer. Statistically the most effective ball.

Shelly-Friend. It’s cute and fits with her forest field.

Shade-Cherish. Mysterious and red.

Aya-Poke. It’s the cheapest.

Serra-Premier. A show of aesthetic and (somewhat former) status.

Noel-Poké. He’s basic.

Radomus-Master. Spent half the coffers on it. Also, because grand”master”.

Luna-Moon. Fits her vibes immaculately.

Samson-Heavy. The circus strongman should lift heavy things. That’s like, his job.

Charlotte-Premier. Both cool and easily available.

Terra-GS balls (or at least, standard pokéballs painted to look like GS balls). The ultimate troll.

Ciel-Wing. White and blue, and associated with flying types. Maybe she learned to make them back out in the country.

Adrienn-Luxury. Only the best for xyr Pokémon!

Titania-Net. Completely symbolic, with no practical use. She’s extra like that.

Amaria-Dive. One can surmise that she spends a lot of time underwater. She likely catches her mons there as well.

Hardy-Repeat. Just thinks it looks cool.

Saphira-Dusk. Very effective and also kinda edgy. Her gym emulates a cave.

Sandy-Luxury. Stolen from Craudberry’s collection.

Elite 4

Heather-Jet. A soaring pokéball for a fast-flyer.

Benett-Nest. He definitely raises his bug Pokémon from the first stage.

Laura-Heal. No explanation needed.

El-Legends Arceus normal Pokéballs. Took up crafting sometime after his sight was restored.

Anna-Dream. Due to the dreamsickness and such.

Ame-Safari. Fits symbolically.

Rivals

Victoria-Heal. Imitating Kiki.

Cain-Love. Flirt.

Fern-Great. Once superior, now outclassed.

Cal-Great. Wanted to show up Blake by using a less effective ball.

Meteors

Aster-Quick. The somewhat hasty one.

Eclipse-Timer. The level-headed one.

Ace-Glimmer. Uses a lot of seals.

Sirius-Ultra. No-nonsense kinda fellow.

Solaris-Gigaton. RVTERN to tradition man himself.

Taka-PLA regular pokéballs. Similar to Solaris but extremely half-assing it.

Lin-Cherish. Mysterious ass.

Zero-Ultra. Looks like Umbreon.

Eve-Quick. Statistically the most efficient ball. 

Lumi-Level. Had a very high level Glaceon and little other Pokémon, so she figured that level balls were best for their price. 

Sigmund-Ultra. For the intimidation factor.

Blake-Ultra. Try-hard.

Corey-Poke. To further comparisons Elena makes to child champions.

Kiki-Heal. Has a focus on healing and mental wellness.

Craudberry-Luxury. Purely as a status symbol, would actually make them more uncomfortable if she could.

Lin Reborn HC List, since I need to post something non-geopolitics related:

- Her favorite food is originally pizza, but eventually becomes Loaded Tater Tots. Elise(my Reborn OC, if you are finding me for the first time) and Lin end up frequenting a food truck in Reborn together and it creates comforting memories for Lin to replace the old.

- HCing her as asexual. She also grows a distaste for Terra's sex jokes(albeit not quite as great as Erin's in Rejuv).

- Once she finally gets a grip and finishes proper schooling (barely), she eventually gets a job as a tabloid journalist. Proper values of life she may have gained, but making money is the perfect excuse to start a new brand of mischief.

- After realizing that Elise can tell when she's up to something due to her shit-eating grin, she looks to Charlotte to figure out how to play things cool. Charlotte ends up warming up to her as her protege surprisingly quick, considering the fact that Lin nearly killed her older sister twice.

- Lin dyes her hair light-green(like her puppet) a few years later for a change of pace.

- Lin finds it a lot easier to bond with Noel over the years than many others. For one, she isn't exactly afraid he'll come for her head at first, but eventually she just finds his quiet, calm nature nice to be around.

- Her first Pokémon after starting life anew is a Type:Null, whom she finds injured having escaped 7th Street(in my scenario, Elise never did the Silvally quest). She luckily tames it after instinctively whipping out her bag of emergency marshmellows. Bribery is Lin's strong suit, but the scenario still leads to her learning how to truly care for Pokémon rather than use them as tools.

- She eventually gets a Deino, Trapinch and Cleffa of her own for her team, as well as a Growlithe and somehow, Hoopa. Fucker escapes and dabs up the other silly dumbass. Hijinks ensue.

- OC Headcanon: Elise's Luxray, Spotlight, likes to be around Lin sometimes when he's jealous of her pet Litten taking the attention (hi Sumi :3). At one point Lin woke up to find him loafing right on top of her like a big baby.

- Saphira only agreed to not complain non-stop about Lin getting to stay because she agreed to make offerings of marshmallows at consistent intervals to Arceus as a peace offering. Puppy is always angry at seeing her until she chucks the marshmallows over to it.

- At Heather's behest, Lin eventually returns to the orphanage very reluctantly(the trauma is still definitely there), only to be pleasantly surprised at how much Blake helped improve the place. She returns every now and then to play video games with the kids.

Chapter 46- Part 20

Oh-? Has Radomus come to the same conclusion I have? I hope so, and I hope this time he isn’t painfully cryptic about it.

Oooooh noooo, yeah, I think they’re a victim of time dilation, ooooh Adrienn honey oh nooo…

…Well, I mean, if you go visit Jasper and Beryl Wards, that’ll technically still be true-

YOUR GYM??? EVEN THE TIME DISPLACEMENT VICTIM IS A GYM LEADER!?!

No kidding, I need to find out what this Gym of theirs is! They said something about a port, so- oh good lord, is that destroyed and abandoned Gym back in Coral Ward their Gym?? No Adrienn, it’s too gruesome, look away!!

Will they? I thought the Reborn League had the proper eighteen Gym Leaders, I don’t remember hearing anything about one being straight-up just…gone? And what type do they even specialize in, can they take their position back? My first thought would be maybe they’re a Water Leader, based on Coral Ward’s location and the blue on their design, but uuuh…Amaria’s already got that down, so...awkward?

Then again, there are other types associated with the color blue- Ice and Dragon for starters, but those are also already taken (as I said before, I’m 99% sure Saphira is a Dragon specialist). Flying is also associated with a light blue, like Adrienn’s hair, so…maybe they’re the Flying Leader? I guess having a seaside Gym doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be a Water-type specialist, I mean just look at Brawly and Volkner.

As tempting as that is, this chapter has been going far longer than I thought it would and I still need to heal the rest of Xera’s team at a Pokémon Center, so we’ll have to meet up with the others a bit later.

Even so, feels a bit weird being back in the city again after spending all that time in Aventurine, but at least now backtracking won’t be as painful. But at the same time, now I’m concerned…if Adrienn was time dilated while down there, did Xera and the others also get time dilated…? The city doesn’t look that different from the last time we were here, so maybe it wasn’t as bad for them?

Well, regardless of time shenanigans, first thing’s first- the nearest Pokémon Center! Probably Lapis Ward? Maybe?

And now, after all that…it’s time to end things off. Like I said, I wasn’t expecting this chapter to be as lengthy or eventful as it ended up being- so much for fitting in prep for the next Gym battle. This might be the longest chapter so far, at least in terms of the amount of images. Just about 600 images and/or GIFs, the full 30 per post! This session has been t h i c c-

But I had a great time! I was so stressed going into Citae Astrae with my limited healing items, and then seeing a whole Arceus- but it worked out, and dare I say…I kinda had fun in the end, despite the terror and the stress! But with the reveals about Adrienn, I have no idea what’s gonna happen next time- I thought we’d save Gardevoir and then get ready to challenge Radomus’ Gym, but maybe not? Ah well, all will become clear next time- hopefully. 

But regardless, I hope you all enjoyed this installment, I hope it was worth the wait, it sure was for me, and I’m extremely looking forward to the next one! Until then!

PULSE-09

A very small scene (334 words) that I wrote last year after talking to a friend of mine who also likes Reborn a lot. I remember us discussing the idea of Saphira getting to have proper revenge against Sigmund rather than leaving his fate to the PULSE and the player, so.. have this! Takes place during the Labradorra City events.

This writing features my own player character (and self-insert), Adriana - I haven't really talked about her here much, but I'm happy to answer questions on her if anyone here would like to know more!

She had stumbled out of the dreary control centre, footsteps tapping against the emerald glass as she hurried back towards the Pokémon Centre. Her previous encounters had taught her only too well that she could not afford to go into the upcoming confrontation unprepared, not if the PULSE was to be properly defeated.

The other thing she was unprepared for was for Saphira to be awake again.

Even through her dazedness and her injuries from Lin, rage and energy coursed through her body with feral ferocity. She charged forwards, nearly striking the soul-touched lady down herself, and a dragon’s fullest might could not have held the Gym Leader back.

“Adriana.” Her voice lacked all emotion. “Where is Sigmund.”

Cal came running up after her, trying hurriedly to explain. “She's been asking the same thing ever since she woke up. I told her you went after him-”

Adriana’s own voice was similarly monotone, but it had more of a dissociated absence to its sound than the keeper's stone-coldness. “I didn’t see him outright, I needed to come back to heal-”

“Did you find him or did you not?” Saphira said, interrupting. “Tell me where he is. Now.”

Not turning her head, or opening her mouth, Adri pointed back to the building, and the woman stormed through.

She didn’t say anything else as she dazedly continued into the Pokémon Centre, the man behind the counter still as begrudging as ever as he healed her team back to full health. She didn’t say anything else as she retraced her steps and opened the door to the control centre again, just as she had done both a few minutes and one clock ago.

This time, though, she didn’t have to go most of the way into the building to smell his blood.

🌍 + a name or description - I'll tell you how she might interact with a character or self-insert from a different series/universe/whatever just for fun - I think a way I could describe the difference between these two self-inserts is that, with a lot of things that they would both do (e.g. if they had to swap worlds for some reason), Aria would choose to do or be unfazed by doing the things that Adriana ends up doing and not enjoying. Things like.. standing up to Solaris on Pyrous Mountain, challenging Lin in the Belly of the Beast (even if that's only canon to the second timeline), refusing to give Blake the Ruby Ring in Ametrine, telling Saphira where Sigmund is in Labradorra. Part of that would stem from Aria's relative lack of care towards those who have made her their enemy compared to Adri's greater natural compassion and avoidance towards direct conflict; Aria's killed, Adriana definitely hasn't. In that way, I guess Adriana is a lot more like Ves, especially at the start of her journey - though she ends up developing a bit away from Ves' timidity and shyness over the course of her experiences in Reborn.

In terms of how the two would actually interact, though.. I think it would go okay? Both self-inserts are quite serious and disciplined (Adriana moreso and more consistently than Aria who very much has a chaotic streak), and are arguably both associated with things that most people in their respective source series tend to distrust (Ghost-type Pokémon and darkness respectively). The main difference is that Adri is a lot less of a fighter. Plus, they both have wings! Although only Aria can fly on hers.

oh yes so many

Saphira Belrose headcanons!

-she has ASPD (antisocial personality disorder), the only people she has any emotional connections to are charlotte and laura

-she looks a lot like her father

-after her parents passed, she was pretty much raised by her pokémon team. as such, she has a lot of dragon-like tendencies, such as hoarding

-even when she left the orphanage and technically had possession of belrose manse, she didn’t stay there until laura got out. she couldn’t be there without her family

-charlotte got her love of music from saphira’s mixtapes (it was one of the only things she had in the orphanage. she gave them to charlotte when she turned 18)

-she prefers hand-to-hand combat over pokémon battling. she trains with victoria a lot in martial arts

-she inherited a sense of patriotism from monty and caroline, so she’s surprisingly proud of being from reborn

-she only ever calms down from flashbacks by seeing/smelling/touching laura or charlotte (speaking from experience the senses of a loved one can pull you out of them)

-on laura’s advice, she takes up painting to get out her emotions

-she’s ALWAYS hot ALL the time. she’s a whole radiator

Pokémon Reborn Screenshot Let's Play: Chapter 45

Weeeeeeeell, here I am again, whether by popular demand or not, I definitely still exist- hello, everyone! So, if you missed my last post related to this Let’s Play, basically- I was neck-deep in DM’ing for TTRPG stuff two weeks in a row, and so while I did finish the play session for this chapter and I started to write it, I ultimately had to put it off to the side to prioritize my game. However, the TTRPG schedule is now back to normal, and with the holidays winding down as well, this means I’ve had time to get back to work on this chapter!

And I’ve got all sorts of reason to finish this chapter and get back to playing the game- after all, a friend of mine has recently started playing Reborn, and uuuuh…well, since they’re not working on an entire concurrent screenshot LP, let’s just say they’ve already gotten a bit further in the game than I have. Just a little bit, not a huge amount, trust me, I am so very trustworthy. But yeah- ever the proud gamer that I am, I’m not one to get left behind in the dust, and with the new year coming in, I’m raring to get some real progress done! 

So let’s get started with making progress by getting into this latest chapter! And by that, I mean recapping what happened last time, especially given the uh…slip in my schedule, yet again.

Xera makes her way to Tanzan Mountain to try and find Saphira, alive or dead. After some exploring, she comes across a previously impassable gate, now broken open; it leads to another cave, where she soon encounters Saphira herself breaking through a wall, alive and well.

Saphira explains that she was the one who went back and destroyed the Meteor base, despite being initially caught off-guard by Lin. She also gives Xera two items she stole from Team Meteor on her way out: the Ruby Ring and the Amethyst Pendant. 

Saphira explains that it’s better for Xera to hold on to the jewels, since Team Meteor will be hunting down whoever has them. As for Saphira herself, she plans to take Laura and the kids up north towards the Carnelia region, since Team Meteor now knows where they live. Saphira and Charlotte have Gyms up there in Calcenon and Labradorra Cities, and she instructs Xera to go there her own way.

After Saphira departs, Xera exits through the tunnel to the north end of Tanzan Mountain, finding herself in the Aventurine region and the Aventurine Woods. 

After some wandering, Xera encounters Fern, who mentions Vanhanen Castle being its own Gym, then boasts about already having eight Badges versus Xera’s seven. In his confidence, he challenges Xera to a battle, and she readily accepts.

Xera soundly defeats Fern once again, who shrugs it off as usual. He explains the usual route to Carnelia has been blocked off due to the guards being mysteriously asleep. And so, he expresses his desire to track down and challenge Noel, the Normal Leader, before leaving.

Xera explores Aventurine Woods and Route 1, encountering numerous Tauros and Bouffalant (literally) butting heads over resources and territory. She catches one of each- Toro the Tauros and Basher the Bouffalant.

While roaming Route 1, riding on the backs of Tauros all the way, Xera finds the Aventurine region’s Nature Center, the epicenter of the Reborn region’s attempts to replenish the Pokémon population…though some of their repopulation attempts have caused more chaos than balance.

Traveling east on Route 1, Xera comes across a grand hedge maze- the entryway to Vanhanen Castle, the location of her next Gym challenge.

So, while there wasn’t a lot that happened last time in terms of plot, there sure was a lot of exploration- and now, we’re just about at Vanhanen Castle! If you recall, it’s not just the next Gym- it’s also where Bennett said Luna ran off to when he was talking to El a few chapters ago. So, seems pretty inevitable we’ll get some development on that particular plot point, in addition to…whatever else this castle will throw at us. But we won’t find out by staying on this intro post, so let’s get into the actual gameplay!

Pokémon Reborn Screenshot Let's Play: Chapter 44

Time is still not on my side, but not for the same reasons as last time! Hello everyone, welcome back to my humble Let’s Play- were the holidays good for you all? I hope so, we’ve still got several to go and a few more weeks left in 2024, so the holiday vibes aren’t quite done yet.

Regardless of whatever you celebrate, I’m celebrating getting this chapter out! Yeah, the thing is, I was actually able to finish prep work for my Fire Emblem TTRPG adventure in a very timely manner- and then I had to cancel the session for Reasons. Both of these circumstances gave me a lot of time to do the play session for this chapter and start writing for it- and yet, it still took me more time than usual to get this chapter posted. I think it’s because I got an extended weekend from work because of Thanksgiving, and the following week was me just trying to get back into the groove of things, so that probably tanked my writing motivation and productivity.

Luckily, my motivation couldn’t hide from me forever, and so here we are. Now then, before we get into the main festivities, it’s that time for the recap! Although last chapter was very eventful, given how long it’s been since I posted it, a few reminders will probably do all of us some good.

Xera travels across the Reborn and Chrysolia Regions to catch some new Pokémon, namely: Charge the Blitzle, Neon the (Shiny) Tynamo, Carnation the Corsola, Nekko the Hoppip, Fuwa the Drifloon, Pan the Nuzleaf, Midnight the Murkrow, Guava the Tropius, Apollo the Helioptile, and Poly the Porygon.

Xera catches Pan after defeating a Shiftry, who was the leader of the Nuzleaf tribe causing mischief in Rhodochrine Jungle. She catches Fuwa while helping a little boy return to his home in Lapis Ward, saving him a second time from a Venipede swarm in the process.

While Laura and Charlotte are still gone, Xera and Noel decide to go ahead with their Gym battle. With Shelly as the referee and Anna’s encouragement, Xera faces off against the Normal-type prodigy.

After a very, very, VERY hard-fought battle, Xera is finally able to defeat Noel and earn the Standard Badge. Just as they finish, Laura returns, though Charlotte has gone off on her own for some alone time. 

Laura explains that her and her sisters’ parents were killed years ago in a house fire caused when Charlotte snuck outside to play with her Vulpix- all the plants and grass around, it was all too easy for fire to spread. She goes on to explain how Saphira has looked after them ever since, and she grows tearful at the thought of anything happening to either of her sisters.

At Anna’s insistence, the group heads back inside to help Laura calm down. Noel takes Xera aside to tell her about his doubts regarding Saphira surviving that fall from Tanzan Mountain. He believes someone needs to go out and look for her, alive or dead- and since Anna won’t let him leave, it falls to Xera.

Suddenly, another tremor shakes the area. Noel and Xera return to the living room to hear the others discussing an explosion that just took place at the top of Tanzan Mountain, where the Meteor base was. Additionally, Charlotte has yet to return.

So yeah, a lot of stuff from last chapter, even if the actual summary is actually pretty short. Thanks to the weathermod password, I won’t be held back from catching event Pokémon anymore (I think), so that’ll be nice. Less nice is how much trouble the Noel fight gave me, by far the most difficult boss battle I’ve had to deal with in this game so far- does that bode well, considering it took me until the seventh Badge to get truly stuck like that? Or is it a terrible omen of the fact that the difficulty is going to continue ramping up in such a way? 

I guess we’ll find out in this chapter, because arson is also real! Not sure what the deal with the Meteor base is, but that’s what we gotta go investigate I suppose, in addition to investigating what became of Saphira. Heck, maybe they’re related, maybe Saphira went back and finished the job! Or maybe that’s where Charlotte ran off to, she went to take out her tragic backstory turmoil on the Meteors- honestly, I can see it go either way.
