had a few more thoughts about how my self-insert (Adriana) would fit into Reborn’s storyline as it’s played..
I don’t think she’s there for the scene where the player meets Anna and the others, and I’m wondering if that’s because she was helping sort out the aftermath of the Beryl Bridge? But I do want her to show up very soon after it, and then again at another point where Anna is, so that Anna can say “it’s so good to see you again!” to Adri and it isn’t immediately obvious that this is actually the first time the two are meeting. (In this timeline, that is.)
She gets into Carnelia alongside the player and Cain, because she had battled Luna before them but was hesitating to go into Agate City. I know she gets the letter from Luna while she’s in Calcenon, but other than that I honestly don’t really have much set for that whole arc.. and a lot of it is quite time-dependent (e.g. she has to battle Terra before the player does), so I should really try and figure out what happens when and what she needs to be around for.
..Prior to that, I’m not actually sure how much of the early game she’s around for yet? She’s very involved in everything Vanhanen obviously, and I guess it makes sense to have her for the Chrysolia stuff to lead into that, but then Apophyll has one of the route requirements and I do want her to be there for the Solaris fight, so.. I may have to contemplate as I play through more for the fandub.
I’ve already established that Adriana isn’t around for the Devon Corp raid, and doesn’t appear where the player is again until after they battle Titania (and even then, only on Reshiram Route). But I think I might have it where she battles the player after their Gym battle with Ciel, and is perhaps the one who then gives them Fly, having been the one Florinia handed it to? Something, something, demonstrating they’re ready to go see the restored Reborn City ‑ and once they are, she also flies off to go reunite with Luna (thus explaining why she doesn’t show up again until Never After).
..The Glass Workstation is its own conundrum, but I’ve already sorted her out for it by having her show up with Luna. She definitely also falls into the Void, and gets free of it alongside the player, but.. I think I might stick with Luna’s canon fate but have it alleviated by Adri retaining a connection with her.
There isn’t a rival battle before the Elite Four (like the Sinnoh games have), is there? I can’t even remember if there’s one in Victory Road either, or whether it’s route-dependent (say if Victoria has something). Either way, I think it would be cool to have Adriana battle the player right before you go into Charous Hall, which is the Pokémon League/Elite Four building (like the Indigo Plateau in Kanto). I was also toying with the concepts of having that last battle be either after the Elite Four but before the Champion, or midway through the Elite Four (for the very selfish reason of letting her be the one who gives the Emerald Brooch, not Elias) ‑ but I’m not sure if either of those would actually work well.
Much to consider.. but much to enjoy considering! I’d love to discuss stuff with friends who know the game, as well ^-^
#heart of the void#my self‑inserts#self‑insert: soul‑touched (adriana)#and also a mention of#selfshipping#selfship: void‑kissed (luna/adriana)#love: dark dreamer (luna)#of a city reborn (pokémon reborn)#I could perhaps have a tag for how I change things (a bit like I have for FFXIV) but I’m not really sure#I just really really like what I have for reborn so I enjoy doing stuff with it!! it’s just harder when on my own#and none of this is considering antares either. who is her own conundrum#but I think a lot of the times she appears mutually exclusively to adriana so I guess the times where she shows up are shared to some exten

PULSE-09
A very small scene (334 words) that I wrote last year after talking to a friend of mine who also likes Reborn a lot. I remember us discussing the idea of Saphira getting to have proper revenge against Sigmund rather than leaving his fate to the PULSE and the player, so.. have this! Takes place during the Labradorra City events.
This writing features my own player character (and self-insert), Adriana - I haven't really talked about her here much, but I'm happy to answer questions on her if anyone here would like to know more!
She had stumbled out of the dreary control centre, footsteps tapping against the emerald glass as she hurried back towards the Pokémon Centre. Her previous encounters had taught her only too well that she could not afford to go into the upcoming confrontation unprepared, not if the PULSE was to be properly defeated.
The other thing she was unprepared for was for Saphira to be awake again.
Even through her dazedness and her injuries from Lin, rage and energy coursed through her body with feral ferocity. She charged forwards, nearly striking the soul-touched lady down herself, and a dragon’s fullest might could not have held the Gym Leader back.
“Adriana.” Her voice lacked all emotion. “Where is Sigmund.”
Cal came running up after her, trying hurriedly to explain. “She's been asking the same thing ever since she woke up. I told her you went after him-”
Adriana’s own voice was similarly monotone, but it had more of a dissociated absence to its sound than the keeper's stone-coldness. “I didn’t see him outright, I needed to come back to heal-”
“Did you find him or did you not?” Saphira said, interrupting. “Tell me where he is. Now.”
Not turning her head, or opening her mouth, Adri pointed back to the building, and the woman stormed through.
She didn’t say anything else as she dazedly continued into the Pokémon Centre, the man behind the counter still as begrudging as ever as he healed her team back to full health. She didn’t say anything else as she retraced her steps and opened the door to the control centre again, just as she had done both a few minutes and one clock ago.
This time, though, she didn’t have to go most of the way into the building to smell his blood.
