Newspaper Helsingin Sanomat highlighted that greenhouse gas emissions in the Helsinki metropolitan area fell significantly last year.
The newspaper said that across the entire capital region emissions have fallen by 20 percent. In Helsinki, emissions decreased by 25 percent. In Espoo and Kauniainen, they dropped by 15 percent, while Vantaa experienced an emissions reduction of eight percent.
This is according to preliminary figures published by Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority (HSY). While energy production figures have already been accounted for, HSY still needs to add new information on traffic.
HSY's experts said a number of factors help explain the drop in emissions.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine spurred Finland to replace Russian natural gas with coal and oil, which led to a spike in emissions for 2022.
Emissions also dropped in 2023 as the capital region moved away from coal on a large scale, shutting down coal power plants like Hanasaari.
Additionally, there were other factors responsible for the capital region's emission reduction, such as an increase in wind power capacity and electricity from the Olkiluoto 3 nuclear power plant.
Electricity consumption also fell in the Helsinki metropolitan area, but only by about 3.5 percent, despite high electricity costs last year.
Soini on upcoming EU elections
Business daily Kauppalehti interviewed the Finns Party's retired ex-chair — and current political commentator — Timo Soini on the upcoming EU elections.
The EU-sceptic Soini made it clear that the main issue with the European Union is where the sovereignty of nation-states ends and where that of the EU begins.
"But there is more to the EU than that, as the recent security situation in Europe has shown us very well," Soini said.
The far-right in Europe looks poised to win big and a possible coalition between the centre-right European People's Party, far-right Europe of Conservatives and Reformists, and the radical right Identity and Democracy groups could form in the European Parliament after the elections.
"Marine Le Pen made an excellent political play by proposing to Giorgia Meloni that they join forces. It's a big play, because there are up to 30 right-wing MEPs from both countries," Soini said, referring to France's Le Pen proposing last week to Italian PM Meloni that the two should ally together in the European Parliament.
Soini added that in the future more member states might take the route of Hungary and Poland, opposing the EU in favour of the nation-state, despite the threat of disciplinary measures against those states.
At the same time, Soini also said that he would not accept pro-Russian parties, such as Hungary's Fidesz in the Europe of Conservatives and Reformists.
"Pro-Russian parties are not for Europe or peace," Soini said.
Finland's maple syrup?
Rural-focused newspaper Maaseudun Tulevaisuus posited that Finns may not be reaping the full rewards of the forest's bounty.
Citing the success of North America's maple syrup industry, the newspaper looked at other natural products found in Finnish forests that could be sold to reap profits for forest owners.
While berries and some long-established edible mushrooms have served as some sources of profit, there are a few other ways for Finnish forest owners to make money besides selling firewood and wood chips.
A survey commissioned by MT last winter said that more than two-thirds of forest owners had not received any side income from their forests in the past five years.
Certain items like birch sap — that could be turned into syrup — and chaga (Inonotus obliquus) — a fungus that grows on tree bark used often in East Asian medicinal teas — are not intensively cultivated in Finland.
However, ramping up production for such natural products presents itself with many bottlenecks. For example, inoculating and growing chaga is so new that 'farmed' chaga has never been harvested, and commercial sales have been limited to the wild-grown variant.
This means that the fungus is rare and difficult to commercially replicate as a natural product.

(SILLY AU IDEA THINGY THAT HAS FULL FIC POTENTIAL INCOMING)
———
Fantasy setting (heavily inspired by D&D for a multitude of reasons. You'll see why). The story takes place in the woods, sometime around 10 pm. Dark as the belly of a Strigsidae, quiet as a muted mouse. The wind purrs rather than howls between the trunks of the Giantess' Bushes—ginormous trees with odd lines that swirl around them like elegant castle pillars.
There's a vocal crack in the woods' tranquility, coming in the form of a loud, maniacal cackle. There's buzzing that grows louder and louder, only to fade into quietness once again as it passes. A being of metal and nature chases after it, emitting a deafening aura of rage and frustration.
Genos, a lone adventurer fighting evil as he carries on around the world in search for his own enemy, had encountered a Vhampiress—no, a Culcivire. It'd antagonized him, and at first he was content on ignoring it. But it had made a passive remark about flying to civilization for prey, and obvious attempt at goading the man into fighting it. An attempt he took the bait for, he realized quickly into the fight. However, that false threat soon became a genuine one, as Genos realized the Culcivire relied on blood gathered by her insect minions for strength and sustenance, and, because he'd eradicated them all (along with a good portion of the surrounding woodlands...), she nedded to get the blood herself now.
Which brings him to this current moment, his torn arm and open shoulder oozing sap-like blood, the limb slung over his back so he could reattach it later. He's jumping over bushes and fallen trees, ducking under branches, stumbling over rocks and mounds of dirt, grass burning beneath his scorching, hot-as-the-sun titanium feet.
In the distance he see light, bright and very clearly not nearly as natural as the bioluminescent mushrooms and moss patches he passes by. And by the sounds of the Culcivire's cackling growing louder with delight, it's exactly what she was looking for. In a panic, he speeds faster towards the light and sounds, everything a blur as he runs.
Eventually, he comes across something odd.
He discovers that the light was coming from a tavern, sitting a couple of yards away from an otherwise desolate road, one that connect between a small village and the main city. It hides under the shadows of the 50ft tall trees' leaves, some littered over the roof. Shockingly, it's very crowded, or so Genos assumes from the very loud chattering and excited yelling coming from within. Rounding the building to the front, Genos finds a sign the reads: "Tama's Tavern."
It's all he manages to observe before he's being attacked again, the Culcivire jumping him from around the corner. He's underprepared, and finds himself being thrown around. A gash is made to his thigh, his chest, his lower abdomen, face cracked and falling apart. His body slams into rhe ground, everything happening so fast it makes him dizzy, so overwhelmed he hadn't even begun to come to terms that he'd underestimated her, she was winning, he was going to die.
He barely manages to turn his body and face her, see her rushing at him with sharp scythe-like claws shining under the moon and ready to take out his head, when it all comes to an end. A hand comes out over his head, grabbing the claws by the blades as she strikes down in an attempt to stab into his eyes. She jostles with the movement and barely makes a sounds before the man who grabbed her slams her down into the ground and punches down into her face. Her head explodes upon impact, bits of her flying off like shrapnel and darker than average blood stains the thin dirt path and grass, along with the man's face.
And Genos simply gawks.
The man was bald, a smooth head that glinted under the moonlight unnaturally, with deep brown eyes that squinted and thin black eyebrows furrow with seriousness. Splatters of blood paint his cheek and his russet-colored apron. He wore no shirt, but the top of his apron, where strings came to wrap behind his neck had the word "OPPAI" sewn in cursive over his chest muscles. Jarring, especially when his fist, coming away from the corpse, was dripping with monster remains.
The man comes up from it, lets his eyes linger over as he mumbles something that sounds like "Coming out here and fucking with my tavern..." before turning to Genos. The teen continues to gawk at him, his yellow-fern hair also slightly ruined with blood from being within range, and his burning gold eyes gleam with awe.
That gleam goes overlooked by the man, who comes over to him. His body is illuminated and outlined in orange from the outside tourch, and he looks positively intimidating.
His eyes soften into something more neutral before he asks: "You want a drink?"

"Tangping refers to the fact that young people don't want to buy an apartment or a car, they don't want to get married and have babies and simply consume things - rather they want to maintain a minimum standard of survival - and not be a money-making machine for someone else," says a Chinese journalist, calling it a "silent helplessness."
Social scientist Yi Fuxian believes hopelessness is also in there.
It's the phenomenon of an ageing society, says the University of Wisconsin researcher. China used to be full of vitality: In the 1990s, 31 per cent of the population was young; now this proportion has fallen to 17 per cent.
The same phenomenon plagues Japan, which is ageing even faster - the social and economic structure has already been planned out by the aging society and jobs are occupied by older people.
Young people have no will to fight, according to Yi Fuxian. They have have no way to change the status quo, so instead they just tangping. In the end, the economic vitality of the entire society can then decrease, which is why the government is worried, says Yi Fuxian.
But it's also shaped by a country with an extreme work culture that idealizes a "996 culture" in which you work 12 hours, from 9 am to 9 pm, six days a week. The other stressors, beyond overworking, are high rents and having to pay for your child's expensive schooling.
These are all the factors that have led to China experiencing a rapid decline in birth rate, despite the end of the one-child policy.
As to practising tangping, perhaps it's better to see it more as a resignation to the circumstances of your life: "I think it's more of a joke or lament about the inability to change your work and life," says one 22-year-old white-collar worker. "It's just a dream."
While all her friends talk about tangping, the reality is that it's really tough, because everyone has to work to pay the bills and rent.
But there's no doubt that this concept has touched a nerve and resistance to overwork is now forming: People stuck in the vicious cycle of work and consumption are readily described as "leeks" that can constantly be re-harvested.
"Calls to 'lie flat' have doubly concerned China's leadership, as they threaten both to sap the country of the ambition to innovate and to knock down the second leg of the country's long-term development strategy - the drive to consume," writes China expert David Bandurski of the China Media Project for the US think tank Brookings.
--------
It seems more like the consequence brought on by inequality and a rigged system than an ageing society to me, and possibly widespread depression because of it too.

Ephemera Week (2002)
I really wonder how effectively I’ll be able to do this in 2003. In 2003, Adult Swim started doing the black and white text bumps, where they give max sass and NO EFFS (fucks), so every week had unique content. I definitely don’t have the resources to catalogue every bumper or even come up with a decent “best of”. Ephemera Corner 2003 may look very different. To quote my good friend Zorak, “Brak, do you ever think about the future?”. To this I say, yes. Yes, Zorak, I do.
BROADCAST ANOMALIES AND SPECIAL NIGHTS!
Adult Swim Action (and other stuff) | February 23, 2002
February 23rd was the first installment of Adult Swim Action. Up to this point, Adult Swim aired a block of mostly comedy capped off with Cowyboy Bebop. This was the first formal separation of Action and Comedy. I remember the bitter rivalry between the two fandoms on various message boards I posted on. It really did seem like a venn diagram with almost no overlap; action fans hated the comedy shows (maybe they liked one or two but hated the rest) and the same went for the comedy fans, except most of the comedy fans I knew were devout anime haters.
At the height of my anime animosity an internet ex-friend of mine started a message board called ANIME SUCKS. It was an experience I’ll always remember fondly. At it’s peak it had over 1000 members. All but about a dozen of those members were actually ANGRY anime fans who just stumbled on the board and were FURIOUS at us for being anti-anime, and we’d just act like obtuse dickheads about it. Like, we’d act stupider than they were and just wind them up.
We developed a few tricks to really set somebody off. For example: they’d write an impassioned defense of anime as an art form, and say something like “it’s not all like Pokemon or Dragonball Z”, to which we’d reply “actually those are the only two animes I like”. This really got them. There was a special thrill to just replying “miyazaki is an idiot” to a guy’s 6-paragraph essay about why anime was “good, actually”, prompting an even longer response. It was really fun! We didn’t have to harass people online, they’d just come to us to get abused. I’ve never seen bait get taken so effortlessly. One day that guy just closed the message board, locked everyone out, and disappeared forever.
That was some aside, huh? Anyway, the arrival of Adult Swim Action meant that Adult Swim stopped airing the Thursday night repeats of Adult Swim Comedy, which was a shame. It Also meant Adult Swim’s Sunday night had an extra hour to fill, which they did with Rocky & Bullwinkle and the Popeye Show. People complained. I didn’t. Vintage animation is just a different take on the “adult” label. Besides, I was used to tuning out by 12AM anyway, so even if I didn’t like those shows (I did!) I wasn’t missing anything, really. But yes, if it were a full hour of Space Ghost repeats I guess that would’ve been better.
The Lewis Lectures | May 19, 2002 - 12:45 AM
A repeat of Lewis Lectures? IT HAPPENED! But what was so different about this broadcast of Lewis Lectures? Well, they accidentally scrambled the SAP audio with the default English audio, causing the Spanish soundtrack to play in tandem with the English one. It was bloody well fucked mate. This is simply no longer England.
I remember becoming an Adult Swim completist and taping this, considering it some kind of void in my collection. Part of me wishes I saved the recording, so I could combine it with the inferior YouTube rip currently up and have a closer-to-pristine copy than the one that’s available. But also, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THIS IS LEWIS LECTURES WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. How much pain can I inflict on myself?
Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law Mini-Marathon | September 15, 2002 - 11:00 PM
On this night they aired a little Harvey Birdman marathon of the 4 episodes. This was kinda baffling, as Birdman had 6 episodes to its name and they’d been repeated into the ground by this point. I guess it goes to show that Adult Swim kinda considered Birdman to be their prestige program. I’m hard-pressed to call any one Adult Swim show “smart” in a way that’s apparent on a shallow level. Birdman is set in a courtroom, animated the most competently out of all their other shows, and involved cultural references in a showy way. Like, Space Ghost having Dave Willis absurdly shout “UP THE CHAIN” in the background of a Space Ghost episode is almost just a weird easter egg. But Birdman? Birdman was name-dropping Hanna Barbera characters the same way Frasier would talk about whatever gay shit Frasier talked about.
They aired The Dabba Don, Shaggy Busted, Shoyu Weenie, Very Personal Injury in that order. I would’ve swapped Shaggy and Shoyu and for Bannon Custody Battle and Death by Chocolate, but that’s just me, I guess.
vimeo
Adult Swim New Years Bash hosted by Carl and Brak | December 31, 2002 - 11:00 PM
Adult Swim officially ended 2002 with this: a night hosted by Carl and Brak in Times Square, watching the ball drop (which was FREAKING MEATWAD!!!!). I remember this night fondly. Unfortunately I can’t find the whole thing, but here’s a single segment I found on vimeo to give you some idea. I think I had it up at one point and Turner very annoyingly had it taken down.
I used to have this massive physical media collection; stuff on VHS and DVD and DVD-R that was meticulously catalogued. I ditched a lot of it in favor of digitizing stuff like this, eternally keeping it on hard drives that I meant to back up but never did. It seems more convenient, but it isn’t. If this were 2003 and I needed to show you this, I would be able to retrieve it from one of my many shelves. I might still have this, but would have no idea where to look for it and it would probably involve me getting in my car and going out to my storage unit and pulling every single box out. I turned it into ones an zeros and stuck it on a nondescript black box that could very well be dead. And now it’s not even on YouTube. Sad? Sure, it’s sad.
PEAK EPHEMERA
(phrase stolen from Grifthorse podcast)
Hey, here are some videos I found on YouTube in case you wanna go down a wormhole of watching old Adult Swim commercial breaks. May the gods of posterity keep them online forever:

Spring 2002
June 16, 2002
June 30, 2002
July 27, 2002

MAIL BAG:
This ends EPHEMERA WEEK. We’ll do actual episodes soon!
What's the scariest thing you seen on adult swim?
I don’t know if I have a real answer for this. I don’t think I actually get scared by stuff in movies or TV shows. I can’t even come up with a funny answer. Remember the end of that Metalocalypse episode where the little sick girl is dead and her eyes turn into maggots and you hear that screechy voice was like I’M DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU!!! I’ll just go with that even though it made me laugh really hard
Ever watch Limmy's Show
I am content just being vaguely aware of Limmy (no, I never watched his show. Seems good).
Please don't do such a big mailbag. I couldn't believe how many r-words wrote inane bullshit to you. Let keep this blog about the real stars: Master Shake, Space Ghost, Brak, Zorak, Meatwad, Frylock, Debbie, Black Debbie, Carl, Sparks, Stormy, Hesh, Moltar, Harvery Birdman Captain Murphy, Dr. Quinn, Paula, Marco, Brendon, Jason, Melissa, The Mooninites, the Plutonians, Peanut, Coach Mc Gurk, Mentok the Mindtaker, Virjay, Antoin, Colby, Trotter, Adair WE ARE THE UPRIGHT CITIZENS BRIGADE :)
I can’t believe this IDIOT doesn’t get that by typing such a long message he very IDIOTICALLY contributed to the length of the Maili Bag... LMFAO, what a IDIOT
This is maybe the funniest blog on tumblr. You really think these nasty little cartoons are special, huh?
Hey than-- oh :( Yeah, I guess so :(
would you like master shake if he did the whole thing
I’m sorry what

It was only a matter of time.
fandom: haikyuu
characters: kuroo x tsukishima
summary:
“Why did you call me, then?”
“Hah?” Kuroo squinted his eyes, looking at Tsukishima as if he were the dumbest person alive. “Cause I wanted to hear your voice, of course. Keep talking.”
Kuroo falls asleep over FaceTime and Tsukishima’s feelings overwhelm him.
Tsukishima Kei was bad at expressing his emotions.
Or rather - he was not bad so much as he was methodical. He was almost too logical for his own good, approaching matters of the heart with a precise level of skepticism and objectivity. He would never let his emotions control him. Feelings like frustration and anger were fleeting, after all. Given time they would eventually fade, so there was really no need for Tsukishima to work himself up over nothing.
Similarly, when Tsukishima felt an inkling of happiness or hope in his chest, he would never let it consume him, for those feelings were temporary, too. It was better to keep his expectations low. If things ended up taking a turn for the worst, then he could stave off disappointment (and save face).
Tsukishima approached all aspects of his life in this precise manner: school, family, volleyball, friendships, whatever. He never made any decisions without careful consideration. Nor did he allow himself to be carried away on whims or anything resembling irrationally.
Of course, that was before the joint training camp...before he met Kuroo Tetsurou.
Kuroo was different for Tsukishima and he couldn’t figure out why. All sense of rationality immediately flew out the window when it came to rooster-hair. Kuroo provoked a different side of him - one he didn’t even realize was there. At first, Tsukishima assumed the feeling swelling in his chest was annoyance - albeit an very extreme case. Kuroo did love to be a thorn at his side and tease him.
Deep down, however, Tsukishima knew it couldn’t be that simple. Whenever Kuroo ruffled his hair or pinched his cheek or got a little too close during blocking practice, Tsukishima didn’t know how to act. He’d pull away, flustered, cheeks burning red, heat chasing after Kuroo’s touch. The sensation crawling under his skin couldn’t be mere annoyance; it was too strong, too overwhelming.
Even more suffocating were the thoughts. They were constant: an endless barrage, day and night. All he could think about was that sly grin, and the feeling of Kuroo’s hand at his back, correcting his form in a manner that came off far more intimate than intended.
These feelings didn’t die with the training camp, either. Kuroo wouldn’t let them, no matter how hard Tsukishima tried.
Somehow, in the weeks following the camp, Kuroo managed to get a hold of Tsukishima’s phone number. He doesn’t know who gave it out, but he suspected it might have been Hinata. The traitor.
Kuroo would message Tsukishima every day, first thing in the morning, reminding him to eat a full breakfast. He would sometimes even ask for pictures as proof. How are you going to get any stronger if you skip meals?
In between classes, too, he would berate Tsukishima with questions. What’s the weather like there? How’s shrimpy doing? Did you eat lunch? What are you doing right now? Do you miss me?
Why do you keep talking to me? Tsukishima finally sent one day, his words seeming harsher than intended over text. He certainly didn’t mean to come off cold. He simply could not understand why Nekoma’s captain kept messaging him constantly, and over nothing.
Kuroo’s reply was delayed - perhaps he was considering the question himself. Why does he keep talking to Tsukishima?
Later that night, his phone lit up with the answer.
you’re cute thats why :P
Tsukishima stared at his screen. The heat, the blushing, the swelling in his chest - it all came flooding in full force.
He took off his glass and rubbed his eyes, the smallest hint of a smile ghosting his lips.
-
Tsukishima didn’t know when their daily texts turned into daily calls, or when those calls then became FaceTimes. Kuroo must have suggested it at some point - he’s always the one coming up with ideas - but Tsukishima can’t say for certain. It was all a blur, really.
What he did know, however, was that seeing Kuroo’s sly grin had now become a staple in his nighttime routine. After practice let out, he would walk home with Yamaguchi, greet his parents at the door, eat dinner with his brother, and then head up stairs to take a shower. Once he had dried off and slipped into sweats, he would putter around his room, waiting. Then, at 9 PM on the dot, his phone would ring.
Kuroo Tetsurou wants to FaceTime.
“Yo Tsukki~”
He greeted him the same way every time. And every time, Tsukishima would return the greeting properly, like the respectful kouhai he was.
Kuroo didn’t like all that formal crap; he’d said so on multiple occasions. But no matter what, Tsukishima couldn’t bring himself to be familiar. He still felt flustered around Kuroo, like nothing between them had changed since training camp.
Of course...nothing had changed between them. Whatever the hell they were doing...FaceTiming each other every day and talking until midnight...it was strictly platonic.
That’s what Tsukishima kept telling himself. Strictly platonic.
“How was your day?” Kuroo asked. It wasn’t some poor attempt at small talk, either. He was genuinely interested. He’d listen to Tsukishima talk about school and practice, asking questions and following up on information previously shared.
“How’s your friend’s float serve coming along? What’s his name....”
“Yamaguchi,” Tsukishima answered. He propped his elbow on his desk and rested his chin in his palm, his other hand holding up the phone. “He’s been working a lot with the alumni,” he said, thinking back on practice. “His ball control is getting better.”
Kuroo whistled. “Already? You know, if he manages to get that nailed down by nationals, he might just give Nekoma some trouble.”
“Nationals?" Tsukishima smirked. "That’s a bit presumptuous. We probably won’t even beat Shiratorizawa next week...”
Ah, there is was. Tsukishima’s precise rationality; never letting himself get too hopeful.
“Hey, you don’t know that,” Kuroo cut him off. “Karasuno is strong. Not as strong as Nekoma, maybe...but you’ve got that freak duo. Daichi’s a reliable captain too, and your little libero is pretty competent when it comes to receives. Not to mention, they have you. My little blocking prodigy.”
Tsukishima’s stomach twisted in knots. “Shut up,” he muttered, his words lacking any real bite.
Kuroo yawned. He reclined further back on his bed, switching to his side. It was only then that Tsukishima realized how truly exhausted he appeared. By all means, Kuroo was a fairly energetic guy, especially when compared to the reserved Tsukishima. He was far more outgoing, getting easily wrapped up in Bokuto’s antics and causing mischief just for the fun of it.
But now, his energy was noticeably low, sapped from him. The circles under his eyes were dark, and his voice was beginning to rasp. Tsukishima’s brows furrowed.
“Are you alright? You seem tired.”
Kuroo chuckled at this. “Aw, are you worried about me, four-eyes?”
Tsukishima’s rolled his eyes. “No. I just don’t want to keep you up.”
Kuroo grew suddenly serious. “Don’t hang up. I’m not tired. I’m the one who called you, anyway.”
Tsukishima was unconvinced, raising a skeptical brow.
Kuroo sighed. “Really, four-eyes, when did you become so responsible? I’m only tired because training was brutal today. We lost our practice match against Fukurodani last week and coach made us pay today with extra laps.”
“You lost to Bokuto?” Tsukishima asked, not even bothering to hide the smile playing at this lips.
“Oi, give me a break,” Kuroo moaned, frowning. “I've had a long day and I didn’t call you to be made fun of.”
Tsukishima’s smile faded. He brought his knees up and hugged them to his chest, toes curling over the end of his desk chair. He allowed himself a beat of consideration, before asking, “Why did you call me, then?”
“Hah?” Kuroo squinted his eyes, looking at Tsukishima as if he were the dumbest person alive. “Cause I wanted to hear your voice, of course. Keep talking.”
The knots in Tsukishima’s stomach returned, twisting and flipping and turning inside out. For a second, he really felt like he was going to throw up. “Oh,” was all he could think to say. “Ok.”
And so talk he did, rambling about nothing. He must have gone on for thirty minutes uninterrupted. He can’t even remember what he said - something about an assignment for class he was struggling with. At some point, he was so strapped for interesting topics that he brought up his older brother - someone he rarely ever mentioned nowadays.
“...recently he’s been coming to our matches. He’s still a little awkward about everything, but I think he’s trying to make up for lost time...”
Tsukishima trailed off, distracted by the sound coming from the other side of the screen. Kuroo’s eyes were closed, his chest rising and falling in a slow, steady rhythm, his breathing heavy and loud.
The bastard was snoring.
“I told you to go to bed, dumbass,” Tsukishima said softly. He wondered how long Kuroo had been out for, chiding himself for not noticing sooner.
His first instinct was to hang up. Kuroo really did seem wiped out from practice. Tsukishima knew if he woke him up now, the stubborn idiot would insist he was fine and try to keep talking. Kuroo was usually the reason their nightly FaceTimes stretched out to midnight. He hated saying goodnight and would come up with any excuse to prolong the conversation.
At the same time, Tsukishima couldn’t bring himself to end the call. His eyes were glued to the screen, drinking up the soft expression before him.
Kuroo was never one to put on airs and pretend to be something he’s not. At least, not in the way Tsukishima was sometimes guilty of. That being said, Kuroo definitely liked to play up certain parts of his personality when the two talked. He was always lighthearted, making unfunny jokes to keep the atmosphere from becoming too serious. That was part of the reason why Tsukishima found him so hard to read. There were very few occasions in which Kuroo’s expression broke from that sly grin.
This just so happen to be one of those rare, golden moments.
Kuroo’s brows knit together while he slept, creasing in the middle as if he were worried about something. His right cheek was buried in his pillow, causing his lower lip to part slightly and create a small puddle of drool by his chin. His hair, which was messy on a good day, had been further rumpled by the pillow, sticking flat to his forehead. And his expression - it was nothing Tsukishima ever seen before - soft and vulnerable, tinted orange from the glow of his bedside lamp.
Staring in quiet awe, Tsukishima realized he wanted to see this side of Kuroo more often. He imagined what it would have been like if they were together in person, talking late into the night until Kuroo inevitably drifted off first. Tsukishima would just lay there beside him, wide awake, soaking up his vulnerable expression until he was content.
Thoughtlessly, he brushed his thumb across the screen, stopping over Kuroo’s parted lips, wondering what they felt like.
Wait.
It only took a second of self-reflection to snap Tsukishima back to reality. He quickly ended the call and placed his phone face down on the desk. He sat there frozen for a second or two, before covering his face with both hands.
What the hell was he just thinking?
Tsukishima was no fool. He may have been a rational thinker, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t reconcile his own emotions, especially when they were presented to him so clearly.
Part of Tsukishima - a deeply buried, unconscious part - had always known this would happen. From the very beginning, Kuroo had been different. Tsukishima fixated on him, imitated him, looked up to him. But more than that, he liked him. He liked him so much that he was willing to put up with his lame jokes and constant teasing. Hell, he would gladly talk for hours each night about nothing, so long as it meant more time together.
It was only a matter of time before Tsukishima dealt with the feelings planted firmly in the pit of his stomach. They had always been there, vining through his body and blooming beneath his skin every time Kuroo’s number lit up his screen.
After what felt like forever, Tsukishima finally pulled his hands away from his face. He leaned back in his desk chair and stared at the blank white ceiling. Strangely, he was smiling.
“I’m so fucked.”

Ectotherm - Conclusion
By extremely popular demand, I give you an actual happy conclusion to the story “Ectotherm.”
And because I can’t do anything halfway, it’s 1664 words, making it already about half the length of the original story (so you can see why I couldn’t just fold it into the conclusion chapter).
For those who have not read the original, follow the link above. The link to the AO3 version (which is expanded, with an additional scene plus a short almost-conclusion in Chapter 18) is in the notes there, and I’ll add it here since external links are sometimes iffy (PM or @ me if it doesn’t work).
--
Crowley couldn’t get warm.
The angel had spent the morning carving lines and curves deep into the wooden floor, until Crowley could feel every scratch and dip through the sensitive skin of his belly. Now the angel was trying to keep him at the center of the pattern, while he ran around the edge doing – something.
There was a heat lamp, but it was too far away. Why wasn’t he under it?
Crowley started sliding across the floor, coiling and uncoiling in the direction of that delicious, life-giving heat –
The angel suddenly loomed before him, hands flapping. “No, no! I told…the center…few more minutes.”
A few minutes? Crowley was cold now. He wound to the side, planning to dart around, but the angel’s feet suddenly shifted, coming down sharply in his path.
Startled, Crowley reared up, nearly as tall as the angel, to hisssss from his maximum height, head flattened, vision suddenly clear enough to see the angel’s face: eyes wide, jaw tight. Frightened. Crowley gave another hisssss, hoping that would be enough to scare the interloper away, clear a path to the heat.
But the angel merely raised his hands, moving more slowly this time. “…sorry, my…adjust the lamp…break the circle now…start all over…” The words were murky, distorted, most of them too low or soft to be perceived. “…explained…ten minutes ago…remember?”
Ten minutes? That was a long time.
No, no it wasn’t. The cold was just making his mind fuzzy again. He gave another longing look at the heat lamp, then at another, further away, tucked safely in a corner where he could bask and hide. He felt exposed, anxious, very much in danger. What if this was some kind of trap?
Then he looked again at the angel’s face. Not frightened. Worried. Sad. Tired.
Crowley trusted Aziraphale. He couldn’t remember precisely why, but it was undeniable – a deep, profound trust. If Aziraphale said he had to stay here, stay he would.
“Fasssssster,” Crowley grumbled, and twisted back to where he’d been before. A moment later, the light from the heat lamp grew a little warmer. Still not quite enough, but better.
Two more slow circuits around the marks on the floor, adjusting things and muttering, and finally the angel sat down, facing Crowley. He held out his arms, but Crowley was in no mood to be handled, pulling back into his coils.
“I need…preferably your face.” Crowley flicked his tongue, but otherwise didn’t move. “Please…”
Reluctantly, the black and red snake moved closer, lifted his head until the angel could cup his jaw with burning-hot hands. He didn’t like it and pulled away, fighting the urge to retreat.
Necessary, this is necessary. He tried to relax into the contact, tried to pretend it didn’t feel wrong.
The angel’s blue eyes fluttered shut; Crowley could just make out the tense wrinkles forming in his brow, but the stiffness in the fingers around the snake’s jaw was unmistakable. It wasn’t enough to be painful, but it was close. Crowley’s back half twisted and writhed as if ready to pull away, even while he focused his entire being on keeping his head still. Necessary. Trust him. It’s necessary.
Finally, the angel’s hands fell away, and he dropped back, breathing heavily. His eyes opened and he smiled. “…finished.”
Good.
Crowley turned and slithered under the heat lamp, stretching out for maximum comfort.
Just as he was settling in for a good late-morning nap, the angel appeared beside him again. “…you hear…finished...”
Now what? Perhaps he should go find one of the more secluded lamps, to avoid interruptions.
“…fixed you...”
Shrugging off the nap for the moment, Crowley raised his head just enough to tip it to the side. Fixed…?
The angel knelt at the edge of the heat lamp’s warmth, and spoke again, much louder. “…fixed…change back…”
Crowley tilted his head the other way. Change back…?
“Human! Crowley, human.”
It all came back in a rush. Arms. Legs. Hands. Drinking strange red water, watching birds swim, moving very fast in a large black box which made the angel very angry – human.
He reared up again.
Nothing changed.
“Hhhhhow?”
The angel shook his head, mouth working, but Crowley couldn’t hear a sound. He pushed closer, far closer than was comfortable, until the heat pits of his face were filled with the angel’s warmth, until he could see the tears gathering in blue eyes.
Crowley focused on those eyes, that shape, on every part of his life in human form that he could still make sense of.
Still no change.
Hissing with frustration, he abandoned the warmth of the heat lamp, shooting away to weave among the plants, drape himself across the sofa, even nudge his face at an open book.
No effect at all.
He couldn’t remember how to change back.
As he circled the shop again – feeling his energy sap away in the cold – he noticed the angel sitting once again at his desk. Crowley climbed up his leg, across his back, draped over his shoulders and around his chest. Felt the pure warmth, cleaner and sweeter than sunlight.
The angel wasn’t working now, of course; his chair was pointed away from the desk, as if to avoid even looking at the piles of paper. He clutched something in his hands, shoulders heaving, chest shaking with sobs. “I’m sorry…I tried…I tried so hard, but I couldn’t…I’m too late.” The voice was a little clearer now, rumbling through Crowley’s belly.
“Sssshhhhhh,” Crowley comforted as best he could, trying to nestle his head on the angel’s arms. It wasn’t a gesture he was comfortable with, but he could remember now that arms, hands, were important. Perhaps if he could get closer…
“If I hadn’t been so foolish…oh, my love…I failed you…”
But Crowley wasn’t listening. He was looking at what the angel held in his hands. He was looking at –
“Glassssssesss.”
“Wh – what?”
“Glassssess.” Crowley nudged at the angel’s hands until they parted, revealing a pair of black lenses held by silver frames. “Pleassse. Glassessss.”
It wasn’t easy to put a pair of sunglasses onto a snake’s head, even one so large as Crowley. They dangled rather uselessly down either side of his jaw, the lenses didn’t exactly cover his eyes, and where they did the world became a murky black soup he had no hope of seeing. But it felt…right.
He turned, trying to face the angel, but somehow lost his balance and tumbled to the floor.
“Crowley? Are you…Crowley?”
The voice was too crisp, too sharp, to rich. It was startling.
He shook his head and hissed, but it sounded strange. Thick. His tongue couldn’t get out because there were too many teeth.
Crowley blinked. Not because he had to, but because he suddenly realized he had eyelids.
A hand drifted over and adjusted the glasses, settling them correctly over the ears and across the nose – no that was his hand, his fingers.
His eyes drifted up and he was shocked at how clearly he could see the angel standing over him, looking more pale, more drawn, and just a bit thinner than he remembered, clothes a rumpled mess, eyes red.
“Aziraphale?”
“Crowley!”
Two arms suddenly around his shoulders, pulling him up onto legs he barely remembered how to use, wrapping around him, pulling him into the indescribable softness of Aziraphale’s embrace. It took him a moment to remember that he had arms of his own, that he could twist them, twine them, pull Aziraphale even closer.
He could still feel Aziraphale’s warmth pressing into his chest and stomach, but it no longer felt like a blazing fire, or the strange glow of life-giving heat. It was simply a body, pressed close to his. Two bodies trembling, shaking, shoulders heaving, breath ragged.
Aziraphale was still crying, still mumbling apologies into the demon’s shoulder.
Crowley was laughing.
They didn’t let each other go for a long, long time.
--
Crowley was warm.
No, Crowley was happy.
It wasn’t as easy to fit both bodies on the sofa in this form, but they managed – Aziraphale stretched out, Crowley, lying across his chest, legs in a tangle, head tucked against his throat, listening to the sigh of breath, the rumble of heartbeat.
They hadn’t talked about it. Aziraphale had finally admitted to being tired, and they just found themselves here as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
“I suppose I’ve gotten used to this,” murmured Aziraphale, who never used to lie on his own sofa, trembling fingers tracing through Crowley’s hair.
“I’m used to it, too,” he mumbled back, but used to it didn’t begin to describe it. This was right, this was home, and he knew it was more than a leftover serpentine instinct to bask that had brought him here, that would keep bringing him here for as long as Aziraphale would allow it.
Aziraphale’s right hand was still twined with Crowley’s left, resting on the angel’s chest. Crowely couldn’t stop studying it, turning it, running his thumb across fingers and knuckles and nails. He could feel more than just heat now, he could feel the softness, the rough callus on the side of one finger where Aziraphale rested his pencil as he wrote, the faint hard edges of papercuts. It was an entire world to explore, that hand, full of more wonder than Crowley had ever suspected.
“Might be more comfortable in a bed,” Aziraphale whispered, clearly already on the edge of sleep.
“I’ve got a bed,” Crowley said idly, still looking at the broken edges of Aziraphale’s nails. He’d never seen them like that before. Aziraphale had kept them perfectly manicured since the invention of manicures. “Lots of space, too. More than I can use. But then, all my plants are already here…” He trailed off, realizing what he was saying.
“Mmh,” was Aziraphale’s only reply. The fingers combing through Crowley’s hair were now almost still.
“S’alright, Angel. You rest. We’ve got all the time in the world.”

Bloods, Church, and Clock: LIG 70% 12:10 ADD MEMORY OPH ADD PHOTO SHARE THIS TRIBUTE JOSEPH A HELLER, JR 1937 - 2019 Obituary Obituary of Joseph A. Heller, Jr. Joe Heller made his last undignified and largely irreverent gesture on September 8, 2019, signing off on a life, in his words, "generally well lived and with few regrets." When the doctors confronted his daughters with the news last week that "your father is a very sick man," in unison they replied, "you have no idea." God thankfully broke the mold after Joe was born to the late Joseph Heller, Sr. and Ruth Marion (Clock) on January 24, 1937 in New Haven, CT. Being born during the depression shaped Joe's formative years and resulted in a lifetime of frugality, hoarding and cheap mischief, often at the expense of others. Being the eldest was a dubious task but he was up for the challenge and led and tortured his siblings througha childhood of obnoxious pranks, with his brother, Bob, generally serving as his wingman. Pat, Dick and Kathy were often on the receiving end of such lessons as "Ding Dong, Dogsh*t" and thwarting lunch thieves with laxative-laced chocolate cake and excrement meatloaf sandwiches. His mother was not immune to his pranks as he named his first dog, "Fart," so she would have to scream his name to come home if he wandered off. Joe started his long and illustrious career as a Library Assistant at Yale Law School Library alongside his father before hatching a plan with his lifelong buddies, Ronny Kaiser and Johnny Olson, to join the Navy and see the world together. Their plot was thwarted and the three were split up when Joe pulled the "long straw" and was assigned to a coveted base in Bermuda where he joined the "Seabees," Construction Battalion, and was appointed to the position of Construction Electrician's Mate 3rd class. His service to the country and community didn't end after his honorable discharge. Joe was a Town Constable, Volunteer Fireman and Ambulance Association member, Cross walk guard, Public Works Snow Plower and a proud member of the Antique Veterans organization. Joe was a self- taught chemist and worked at Cheeseborough- Ponds where he developed one of their first cosmetics' lines. There he met the love of his life, Irene, who was hoodwinked into thinking he was charming individual with decorum. Boy, was a she ever wrong. Joe embarrassed her daily with his mouth and choice of clothing. To this day we do not understand how he convinced our mother, an exceedingly proper woman and a pillar in her church, to sew and create the colorful costumes and props which he used for his antics. Growing up in Joe's household was never dull. If the old adage of "You only pull the hair of those you love" holds true, his three daughters were well loved. Joe was a frequent customer of the girls' beauty shops, allowing them to "do" his hair and apply make-up liberally. He lovingly assembled doll furniture and built thema play kitchen and forts in the back yard. During their formative years, Joe made sure that their moral fibers were enriched by both Archie Bunker and Benny Hill When they began dating, Joe would greet their dates by first running their license plates and checking for bald tires. If their vehicle passed inspection, they were invited into the house where shotguns, harpoons and sheep "nutters" were left clearly on display. After retiring from running Bombaci Fuel, he was perhaps, most well-known for his role as the Essex Town "Dawg Kecher." He refused to put any of his "prisoners" down and would look for the perfect homes for them. One of them was a repeat offender who he named "A**hole" because no owner would ever keep him for very long because he was, in fact, an daily a**hole. My Dad would take his buddy on rides in his van and they'd roam around town with the breeze blowing through both of their fur He never met a dog he didn't like, the same could not be said for the wanna-be blue bloods, snoots and summer barnacles that roamed about town. His words, not ours. Well maybe not exactly his words as those would been much more colorful. Joe was a frequent shopper at the Essex Dump and he left his family with a house full of crap, 300 pounds of birdseed and dead houseplants that they have no idea what to do with. If there was ever a treasure that he snatched out from under you among the mounds of junk, please wait the appropriate amount of time to contact the family to claim your loot. We're available tomorrow. Joe was also a consummate napper. There wasn't a road, restaurant or friend's house in Essex that he didn't fall asleep on or in. There wasn't an occasion too formal or an event too dour that Joe didn't interrupt with his apnea and voluminous snoring. Besides his beloved wife, Irene, and brother, Bobby, Joe was pre-deceased by his pet fish, Jack, who we found in the freezer last week. Left to squabble over his vast fortune, real estate holdings and "treasures" are his three daughters Michelle Heller (Andrew Bennett) of Newton, MA, Lisette Heller (Lenny Estelle) of Ivoryton, CT and Monique Heller (John Parnoff) of Old Lyme, CT. He relished his role as Papa and Grampa Joe to Zachary, Maxwell and Emily Bennett, Megan, Mackenzie and Ryan Korcak, and Giovanna and Mattea Parnoff and hopes that he taught at least one of them to cuss properly. Left with decades of fond and colorful memories are his siblings Pat Bedard of Madison, Richard (Pat) Heller of Oxford, and Kathy Heller of Killingworth, sisters-in-law, Kathy McGowan of Niantic and Diane Breslin of Killingworth, and 14 nieces and nephews. No flowers, please. The family is seeking donations to offset the expense of publishing an exceedingly long obituary which would have really pissed Joe off. Seriously, what would have made him the happiest is for you to go have a cup of coffee with a friend and bullsh*t about his antics or play a harmless prank on some unsuspecting sap. If we still haven't dissuaded you and you feel compelled to waste your hard-earned money to honor his memory, donations may be sent to: Seabee Memorial Scholarship Association, PO Box 667, Gulfport, MS 39502. A celebration of his life, with Joe laid out in all his glory, will be held on Thursday, September 12, at the Essex Fire Department, 11 Saybrook Road, from 4-7. A light dinner will be served as Joe felt no get-together was complete without food. None of his leftovers or kitchen concoctions will be pawned off on any unsuspecting guests. Feel free to be as late as you'd like as Joe was never on time for anything because of the aforementioned napping habits. Joe despised formality and stuffiness and would really be ticked off if you showed up in a suit. Dress comfortably. The family encourages you to don the most inappropriate T-Shirt that you are comfortable being seen in public with as Joe often did. Everybody has a Joe story and we'd love to hear them all. Joe faced his death and his mortality, as he did with his life, face on, often telling us that when he dropped dead to dig a hole in the back yard and just roll him in. Much to his disappointment, he will be properly interred with full military honors (and maybe Jack) next to his wife on Friday, September 13, at 10:00 am in Centerbrook Cemetery. The family is forever in debt to his neighbor, Barry Peterson, for all of his help in recent years. We couldn't have done it without you. Sorry, Mom, Lisette and I did the best we could to take care of him and keep him out of your hair as long as we could. Back in your court now. Add Condolence THURSDAY 12 SEPTEMBER GET DIRECTIONS VISITATION 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Thursday, September 12, 2019 Essex Fire Company

Happy Vernal Equinox!
Two few minutes before 6 pm Eastern Daylight Time on Wednesday, our northern Spring, also known as the Vernal Equinox, officially begins! Here’s why…
(Above: At the moment of the Vernal Equinox on Wednesday, March 20, the sun’s path along the Ecliptic (yellow plane) will carry it across the Celestial Equator (blue plane), leaving the sun to spend the next 6 months in the northern half of the sky and delivering increased daylight hours and radiant heat on the Earth’s northern hemisphere.)
The Celestial Equator is an imaginary circle around the sky that sits directly above the Earth’s equator. It divides the sky into two bowls - the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Meanwhile, as Earth orbits around the sun, the sun appears to travel eastward through the distant stars, tracing out another circle called the ecliptic. Due to the 23.5° tilt of the Earth’s axis of rotation, the Celestial Equator and the Ecliptic are tipped with respect to each other. Think of them as two hula hoops with the same centre, Earth - but one is tilted so that they intersect at only two spots. (The motion of the sun that I’ve referring to above is the one that causes new stars to appear each season, and is NOT the one that carries the sun across the sky every day. The first case is due to the Earth’s year-long orbit and the second motion is due to the Earth’s daily rotation.)
The sun’s eastward motion along the ecliptic circle covers about one degree per day. At the precise moment of the Vernal Equinox, the sun is “stepping over” the equator (where the hula hoops cross) and its apparent motion is carrying it into the northern half of the sky. Six months from now, on the Autumnal Equinox, it will again cross the equator heading into the southern half of the sky.
This produces two interesting effects. Firstly, for the next six months, the sun will spend the majority of each day in our northern hemisphere sky, overhead of the lucky folks in North America, Europe, and Asia! More daily sun time means warmer air and longer daylight hours! At the same time, folks in the Southern hemisphere have to accept shorter, colder days and longer nights (Warmly dressed astronomers don’t mind long winter nights!). Secondly, on the day of the equinoxes, we experience about 12 hours each of daytime and night-time (it varies by latitude). This is where the word equinox (Latin for equal night) comes from.
The times around the equinoxes also offer better chances to see the aurorae at high northern and southern latitudes. Just as two bar magnets lined up with their poles in the same direction repel one another strongly, the Earth’s magnetic field repels the sun’s field. At the equinoxes, the Earth’s axis is tilted neither towards nor away from the sun, so the two “magnets” aren’t as parallel, reducing Earth’s ability to deflect the sun’s field and the charged particles that trigger aurorae in our upper atmosphere.
The Moon and Planets
For most of this week, the moon will remain in view in the evening sky. On Sunday night, it will be a bright gibbous (more than half-illuminated) orb between Cancer (the Crab) and Leo (the Lion). On Monday night, the moon will land less than two finger widths to the left of Leo’s brightest star, Regulus.
(Above: On Monday evening the orbital motion of the moon will place it 2 degrees to the upper left of Leo’s brightest star, Regulus, as shown here for 9 pm EDT.)
On Wednesday night the moon will reach its full phase. Although technically it occurs a few hours past the equinox, this is the final full moon of winter. The March full moon, known as the Worm Moon, Crow Moon, Sap Moon or Lenten Moon, always shines in or near the stars of Leo or Virgo (the Maiden). Full moons always rise in the east as the sun sets, and set in the west at sunrise. When fully illuminated, the moon’s geology is enhanced, especially the contrast between the ancient cratered highlands and the younger, darker, smoother maria. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landings by humans.
After Wednesday, the moon will begin to rise in late evening and wane in phase. From Thursday to Sunday, it will traverse the stars of Virgo and then Libra (the Scales).
Mars will continue to be an easy planet to see every evening this week, but only for a couple of hours after dusk. By midnight, Mars will set in the west. Once the sky has darkened, look for Mars’ medium-bright, reddish pinpoint of light less than halfway up the western sky. Mars has been slowly shrinking in size and brightness as we increase our distance from it little-by-little. Distant Uranus is situated two fist diameters below Mars – but it’s too low for observing nowadays.
(Above: This week, Mars will continue to gleam as an ever-diminishing, reddish pinpoint located about halfway up the western sky after dusk, as shown here at 9 pm local time.)
The eastern pre-dawn sky continues to host a spectacular parade of three bright planets. Bright Jupiter will rise first, at about 2:30 am local time. By 7 am, it should still be visible in the southern sky. Yellowish Saturn, will rise at about 4:30 am local time and will become lost in the southeastern twilight before 7 am.
Our sister planet Venus, now markedly closer to the sun, is starting to become engulfed in the dawn twilight. Look for Venus’ as a bright beacon sitting quite low in the east-southeastern dawn sky from 6 am local time until sunrise. In a telescope, Venus will exhibit a gibbous (more than half-illuminated) phase. If you have trouble seeing Saturn, search about midway between Jupiter and Venus.
(Above: The eastern pre-dawn sky continues to deliver a parade of bright planets, starting with Jupiter, then Saturn, and then Venus, as shown here at 6:30 am local time. Venus’ orbit, shown in red, is swinging the bright planet lower, towards the sun.)
The Brightest Stars
During full moon periods, only the brightest stars can still be spotted with unaided eyes. At this time of year, most of those stars are the ones that form the Winter Hexagon asterism. Start by finding the extremely bright star Sirius sitting low in the southern evening sky at 9 pm local time. From there, look for bluish Rigel sitting 2.5 fist diameters to Sirius’ upper right, then look well above Rigel for warm-tinted Aldebaran, and continue to Aldebaran’s upper left to reach yellowish Capella at the top of the asterism. Now descend on the hexagon’s left side. The bright matched pair of stars Castor and Pollux is three fist diameters to the lower left of Capella. Finally, bright white Procyon is well below those twins – roughly between them and Sirius.
The only other bright star is Regulus in Leo. That white star sits about 3.7 fit diameters to the left (east ) of Procyon.
(Above: the full moonlight generally overwhelms all but the brightest stars. The Winter Hexagon composed of the bright stars Sirius, Rigel, Aldebaran, Capella, Castor, Pollus, and Procyon will be visible on mid-March evenings, including Wednesday’s Full Sap Moon. The point marked ASP is the point of the sky opposite the sun. The moon is always fully illuminated when it’s near that location. The sky is shown here for 10 pm local time, )
Evening Zodiacal Light
For about half an hour after dusk between today and the new moon on April 5, look west-southwest for a broad wedge of faint light rising from the horizon and centered on the ecliptic. This is the zodiacal light - reflected sunlight from interplanetary particles of matter concentrated in the plane of the solar system. The glow will be centred on the horizon directly below Mars. Try to observe from a location without light pollution, and don't confuse the zodiacal light with the brighter Milky Way to the northwest. I posted an image of it here.
Pointing at Polaris
If you missed last week’s information about Polaris, the North Star, I posted it with sky charts here.
Keep looking up, and enjoy the sky when you do. I love questions and requests - so, send me some!

However, the mighty King of Serpents, Muchalinda, came from beneath the earth and protected with his hood the one who is the source of all protection. When the great storm had cleared, the serpent king assumed his human form, bowed before the Buddha, and returned in joy to his palace.

i have been enabled! here is a massive infodump (putting it under a readmore bc Holy Fuck It's Long)
ada roles
-nene = atsushi
-kou = no specific analogue but works at the ada
-teru = dazai
-akane = kunikida
-aoi = ranpo
-hanako = mix of younger ranpo (role in agency's creation) and fukuzawa (ability)
-tsuchigomori = fukuzawa
-yako = yosano
-tiara = kenji (but she doesn't actually work for the agency she just kinda hangs around and helps out sometimes)
port mafia roles
-tsukasa = akutagawa
-natsuhiko = chuuya
-sakura = kouyou but also kind of kyouka?
-mitsuba = reverse kyouka
-shijima = poe (there's no guild so she's a free agent. works with the pm sometimes)
abilities
-nene: beast beneath the rain (turns into a serpent in the water. when the serpent form is exhausted before she can change back into a human, she turns into a fish. she later figures out how to do a partial transformation into a mermaid)
-kou: blood for blood (can either heal others by sacrificing something of himself, usually literal blood, or sap the energy of others and use it for his own. he fears the second part and had hanako lock it away, leaving him only a healer)
-teru: more than human (can nullify or amplify the abilities of others)
-akane: echo (can see a visual representation of others' abilities and replicate a weaker version for his own use. often has this stopped by his glasses. makes a formidable team with teru.)
-aoi: no ability, she just helps the agency by being very perceptive
-hanako: lock and key (can either lock away part of an ability or give a user full control of their ability)
-tsuchigomori: gossamer trail (summons a swarm of butterflies that lead him places and takes on a spiderlike appearance - his canon supernatural appearance - when he uses it)
-yako: scissor stitch (like kou, can use her ability to heal or harm. unlike kou, she has no qualms about using it for harm. when her scissors are closed, she can touch them to a wound and it will heal. when opened, she can use them as deadly blades. works with any scissors in a pinch, but she prefers to use a pair she's had for as long as anyone has known her - a gift from someone in her past. it stores the scissors in its hair when not using them)
-tiara: stormwielder (can create a barrier of lightning around herself that shocks anyone who comes too close and electrifies any weapons she wields. remarkably strong and controlled for such a young ability user)
-tsukasa: dark bonds (can take someone's ability from them and bind it to an object, leaving them powerless without the object)
-natsuhiko: ability unnamed (can use his necklace to transport things. she can usually only use it on small things, but when amplified by teru, she can use it on larger/living things. he uses it like a pocket dimension but the "pocket dimension" is really just a corner of the mafia's basement. everyone else is trying to keep her stuff in that corner but it is barely working and sometimes they contemplate just relinquishing the entire basement to whatever bullshit she has to store)
-sakura: static ghost/unchained ghost (controls a deadly spirit that looks like a luna moth. while she is with the port mafia, control of it is bound to the radio. later on, fae gains the ability to control it on faer own, and the ability's name changes. once this happens, the spirit becomes quicker to attack and more vicious when it does)
-mitsuba: ability unnamed (controlled a spirit that let him look into places through his camera. after being forced into the mafia, his ability is bound to the camera and now the spirit attacks people he photographs)
-shijima: picture perfect (she can trap people within anything she paints. basically her canon powers bc they work really well with the character whose role she has in this au)
agency history
-when the yugi twins are 12 and aoi is 14, they run away and are found and taken in by tsuchigomori
-when the twins are 13 and aoi is 15, tsukasa's ability is corrupted by merging with a strange force (the pit god). he disappears, leaving tsuchigomori and amane both thinking they failed him somehow. later that year, the agency is founded, with tsuchigomori, amane (now called hanako), aoi, and yako as the first members and tsuchigomori adopts hanako and aoi.
-the next year, aoi reaches out to her old friend akane, inviting him to join the agency. akane arrives at the agency a few days later with all three minamoto siblings in tow. akane, teru, and kou all become members.
-two years later, teru goes missing on a mission. he reappears a year later, more closed off and reckless. he doesn't talk much about what happened during that year. they know he had somehow fallen in with the mafia, but no one knows details (if anyone did, it would be akane). kou calls him nii-san after that. akane calling him teru is one of the few things that makes his eyes light up anymore. akane says he only does it for clarity, but he loves seeing the light in teru's eyes.
-after teru's return, the agency remains much the same for about five years. no one joins or leaves, so they simply stay as they are. until the day teru hears about yashiro nene, a powerful ability user who's new in town and sends kou to investigate.
assorted backstory bits and pieces
-aoi and akane knew each other as kids and had a small garden together. the night aoi ran away, akane met her in their garden and gave her a pressed forget-me-not. they promised they'd see each other again someday, someplace better, and they did. they start up the garden again a while after they reunite at the ada. aoi still has the pressed forget-me-not. it's one of their most treasured possessions. -the minamotos are a family of ability users who hunt and kill other ability users. as a result of this, teru grew up thinking himself basically equivalent to a weapon. they were meant to kill akane, but they couldn't bring themselves to. he was too human, more human than any other ability user he'd ever met besides his siblings. akane taught teru that he, too, was human. after they unlocked the nullification part of their ability, they made akane's glasses a nullifier. shortly after, he took his siblings and ran away in the night. the three of them stayed with akane until they received the letter from the ada. -nene's first encounter with the serpent was when she was a child, maybe twelve or thirteen. she was outside and there was a sudden thunderstorm. she doesn't remember what happened during it, only that she woke up on soaked ground completely dry and the walls of her family's house were damaged. she couldn't understand why her parents started to look at her with fear and never let her go out in the rain. it was years before she found out about the serpent. thinking it followed her, she left, trying to keep it away from others. she spent years wandering after that, not knowing where she planned to go or if she had ever had a destination. she finds one after she meets kou and joins the ada - a purpose, a place. -mitsuba used to be a friend of kou's - not an agency member, but somewhat associated. tsukasa wiped his memory and took him into the mafia to use as leverage against kou, and by extension teru, but it didn't work as well as he had hoped.
other stuff
-teru and akane both use he/they, aoi uses she/they, yako uses she/it, sakura uses she/fae, and natsuhiko uses he/she
-everyone is nine years older than they are in canon (except for tsuchigomori and yako, who i made 40 and 38 respectively)
-there's a running joke among the kids that yako is secretly a fox bc of how she seems slightly inhuman and the inari statue she keeps. when it overhears these jokes, it just smiles at them. they think the jokes may be slightly true.
-aoi is the only one who's allowed to call hanako amane (siblings <3)
-during his year in the mafia, teru reverts back to how he was when he was just a weapon of the minamoto family. they forget how to be human, resulting in them stumbling into the ada's dark and empty office in the middle of the night after he leaves the mafia. tsuchigomori finds him the next morning, shivering at his desk and strangely still. the light is gone from their eyes.
-kou will eventually unleash the energy-sapping part of his ability and go feral in the mafia to get mitsuba back. he can be batshit as a treat.
-teru refuses to stop flirting with akane on the job. also every interaction he has with natsuhiko involves some degree of flirting but neither of them are serious about it they're just Like That. teru's two homoerotic gingers is one of the funniest things in this au.
-tsukasa has an excessively convoluted plan for getting teru back into the mafia. it is going poorly.
hello tumblr can i interest you in hearing about me, @withoutyouinthelight, and @inkyarachne's tbhk bsd au. it features such highlights as:
-runaway count: 6 (the kids are escaping their shitty families and gaining a spider dad)
-hanako and aoi siblings agenda!
-aoikane garden agenda!
-the sunflower/bad personality trio being 2 he/theys and a she/they
-"how many kids do you have" "legally, biologically, or emotionally" "seven"
-teru's two homoerotic gingers
and more!

Itinèraire de France – and here along the road-side charcoal-rings 6 or 8 yards diameter – the charcoal burnt in a conical heap in the middle covered over with sand, and, when sufficiently burnt, raked out and placed in a circle all round, so as to form the rings mentioned – the charcoal sent to Langon for the six bateaux à vapeur that ply on the Garonne – white sandy soil the firs when largeish seem mossy – a little cut-leaved oak intermixed with the firs – the commerce of Bazas is in wood and charcoal – at 12 10 en sortant from the fire-forest, a little heathery common (left) then rye (right) 1st we have seen cut – bad road – the wood pavé all in holes – at 12 25 very bad for ¼ hour – acacia hedges roadside – Captieux at 12 ½ picturesque little white, red-tile-roofed, scattered town – the blue clad men and crimson petticoated women of Bazas and here very picturesque – 5 minutes from Captieux white sand and heather, and fir and oak forest all round at a little distance – still bad wooden road – heather and whins on the ground clear of wood – From Captieux to Trévers (Porteau

supprimé as a poste aux chevaux) great deal of heathery land, and at 1 ¼ the covering of the nutty way seems a mixture of black bog earth with white sand – obliged to go foots’ pace – if we went off the starting boards, the carriage wheels would sink up to the nave in sand of the parterre – at 1 ¾ rough stone pavé again after another piece of this board-road ‘planchéiée avec des madriers on des poutres équarries et assemblées comme des planchers’ Itinéraire de France midi. p.51 – these pieces of timber 8 or 9ft. long – mud and water gushing out from them at every joining as we pass along – at 1 48 leave the Gironde and enter the department of the Landes and have a bit of tolerable going on the parterre the sand now hard enough to bear us – at 2 5 la poste at Trevers (1 3/4p.) a large barn-like stable with a 3 roomed wood cabin (cahutte) at the back and a little bit of corn land in the midst of heather and wood – better road from here – a new stone pavé in progress and the road newly planted on each side with poplar, acacia and platanus – bad bits of road now and then – pulled up and not yet pavé at all – still heather brackens and pine forest – at 2 ¾ a deepish drain shews yellow-ochre coloured sand at the depth of a foot or 2 – all this stage and the last patches of rye every now and then near the picturesque little farmsteads, a good deal of it cut – now at 3 5 road bad again but commonly bad – a rubbled road, worn in consequence of the great quantity of rain – Roquefort at the poste at 3 ¾ (1 3/4p. from Trevers) not the place celebrated for its cheese – handsome new stone 3 arch bridge over the picturesque little river Douze just before arriving at the post, and hill – alight for a minute or 2 to look back upon the picturesque town with its old little chateau in the midst – at the top of the hill (left) new looking road to Tarbes – our road is now a rubble-road – not paved – and tho’ wet and worn, it is a godsend after the holy stone pavé and starting planks that we have come over – our road lies chiefly thro’ forest of fir, and oak, on these 2 mixed – row of trees on each side of the road – now good, large, handsome, old oaks (many of them having been once over truncated) and now fine, handsome (beautiful) large Spanish chestnuts in full flower – at 4 ¾ took up Dr. Léon merchant on mineral waters very interesting – at 5 Caloy a single house farmstead – From Roquefort to Caloy most interesting drive today – the road generally below the level of the forest which slopes up [?] on each side – the forest, too, the most interesting and continuous tho’ every now and then broken as it had been more or less all today by picturesque little farmsteads and patches of rye – rye in foot broad ridges with foot broad spaces between – off from Caloy at 5 10 along straight line of poplar avenue reaching as far as one can see, and in fact reaching to Pont de Marsan – the ground clear of wood, but covered with brackens, for some distance on each side the road – all the amphitheatric line of hill in the distance en face seems forest – rubble-road – cut up – but very fair considering the great quantity of rain – it has rained almost incessantly (they say) for the last 3 weeks – They said at Langon, we should probably sleep at Mont de Marsan – they better knew the state of the road than I did – it seems they sent word from there by courier de poste to tell the people at the postes on the road that we were coming .:. we have not had to wait for horses anywhere – It takes the malle poste 48 hours to go go the 26 ¾ p. from Bordeaux to Bayonne – at Mont de Marsan at 5 55 hotel des ambassadors and du roi de Naples who was here 1 May 1830. very nice hotel – the courtyard very pretty with creepers etc. growing against the external gallery against the house – very nice people – veuve and her son and daughter – out soon after 6 for ¾ hour – peeped into the modern good church – then to the 8 good Bains du nord very picturesque midway the picturesque bank of the now muddy Douze, and then immediately crossed the picturesque wood bridge over this little river to the Pépinière Départemental – very pretty so interesting (determined to breakfast here tomorrow, and see it in the morning for instructions’ sake as to the different trees) dinner at 7 – soup and salmon – mutton rouleau piqué and mutton cutlets, and fricandeau de veau, and a large roast fowl au cusson – potatoes au naturel (with their skins on served in a napkin as everywhere here nowadays) and good pears and 4 most excellent ortolans (which last made our dinner 5/. a piece instead of 4/. well worth it) besides an ample dessert gateau de riz (good) biscuits and macaroons sweetmeat, and honey as I had desired Roquefort being famous for it (and it is very good) and strawberries and cherries – by far the most bountiful dinner we have had and by far the best – the ortolans would have satisfied the veriest epicure – never ate ortolans so parfaits before – like marrow dissolving in one’s mouth – sent from here to Paris – killed by holding their little heads in brandy, then picking and packing them in vine-leaves – (sent to table here on a silver skewer) a thin crisp bit of toast between each, and each wrapt in a thin leaf of lard, and even that a shred of vine-leaf – fed in the dark in a cage on millet – cost 2 or 3 sols a piece at 1st but ¾ die in the feeding, and if they are not taken just at the moment and cooked (roasted) au point (to ½ a turn) they are spoilt – the murier very like the ortolan – rather smaller and never so fat as the ortolans fed here – aux eaux the ortolans will be muriers – diner downstairs in a private salle à manger and came upstairs at 8 – sat with A- in her room talking till 9 – then (having had Josephine about 9 ¾ or 10) till 11 55 wrote out the whole of today – Rainy day till near 5 pm afterwards fair and finish – F63 1/2° at 11 66 pm A- right today I shall take no notice when she gets wrong again and core [care] for and think of it less and less by degrees

After several studies and trials at different dilution rates, the use of PureCrop1 at 150:1 has shown to consistently eradicate powdery mildew at least a 5 to 7-day suppression period on commercial roses. Overseeing this PureCrop1 trial on powdery mildew, Entomologist Brook C. Murphy found PureCrop1 to perform "as well, or better than a leading commercial fungicide". Evaluations were conducted to test the performance of PureCrop1 for controlling #PowderyMildew on roses. Laboratory bioassays were used to evaluate PureCrop1's ability to eradicate existing powdery mildew infections and assess any residual action PureCrop1 has against reoccurring infections at two concentrations. To view the full results and more, visit our website Trials & Studies page -> bit.ly/pc1_PM_Study PureCrop1 is made of plant-based ingredients used to form the colloidal micelle. These molecules are a nano-supramolecular surfactant; a surfactant causes mold spores to slip off and stay off leaves. The same cell type in sap-sucking insects is also found in mold & mildew. Our powerful organic formula attacks mold & mildew by disrupting the membrane and weakening cells. Pulling solid particles away from the leaf surface like soap, PureCrop1 sterilizes the spore and biodegrades completely. Citric acid provides useful ethanol properties, while guar gum provides a thin physical barrier preventing future infection. Along with #PM, PureCrop1 controls downy #mildew, #botrytis, sooty #mold, fusarium wilt, leaf curl, and other fungi. #Insecticide - #Fungicide - #Biostimulant - #Surfactant 🌱One Organic Formula Simplify with PureCrop1 — view on Instagram https://bit.ly/3iiiDLT
