it's not even that he's human trafficker (dont...take that out of context) or that he trafficked Makoto at all. It's that he NEVER expressed one ounce of regret for his actions outside of how they affected his unrequited crush Tachibana. He never even fucking apoligized to Makoto. But the narrative and Kiryu act like had a redemption arc and it drives me up the wall.

Such a cool question. RGG has been such a presence in my life for so long it's shaped some of my tastes so I'll need to think about this

In general I do prefer dark, more grounded stories. When it comes to crime fiction, my favorite subgenre is noir. And I mean REAL noir, bleak and dark and a dismal ending. RGG's levity and...pushing suspension of disbelief beyond limits is unique for me.

Gameplay-wise, i do NOT like brawlers and I usually play on easy to get through the combat. This doesn't apply to Ichiban's games obv (the opposite for me there - i LOVE the gameplay) and Judgment's combat is so good and smooth that it MAKES me enjoy the brawling gameplay. But Kiryu and the protags of Y4 feel so sloggish to me that I'm more withstanding their gameplay than enjoying it.

Also all the objectification of women. Really not into that.

now i AM writing a sequel fic but as it's specifically a kuwagami fic, it has a large dose of self-indulgent contrivance so I'll pitch a J3 I think RGGS would make

With the Kaito Files we've seen Kaito is a formidable detective himself and can handle his own case load. Also we're LUCKY Kimura has returned for this. But he's expensive so we can't use him too much.

So let's make this a dual narrative told between Yagami and Kaito sections. They will still interact with each other at certain cutscenes so we get plenty of their nice chemistry but for the main plot they are working on their own. Yagami will team up with Saori and Sugiura at points and Kaito will lean on Hoshino and Tsukumo.

Let's start with Team Yagami. Saori has a case where she must defend a client on a robbery case. Problem is, even tho he's been caught on camera, he INSISTS he was not in Kamurocho at the time of the robbery. And he is not lying. Yet when Saori tries to press him for more info, he clams up. So she conscripts Yagami to do a private background investigation on him.

Meanwhile Kaito is out with Higashi when he sees an old Matsugane family member. He goes over and starts catching up with the guy but he's acting a little weird. He then dies quite suddenly in front of Kaito, the victim of a poisoning. Kaito follows up with the police on this clear murder but they're going to rule it as a choking and close the case. Kaito is immediately suspicious and decides to dig deeper.

From there, the plots will grow more complex as always and introduce a cast of delightful villains to fight. The Health Ministry will be involved. The plots will dovetail at the end where Kaito and Yagami (and Sugi and Higashi and Tsukumo on support drones) will kick major ass 🥰

Thematically it'd tackle the further consequences of the Great Dissolution, including some of the shit that happened in IW, and it'd also explore Kaito's inner life a little more. Yagami's side would have him unpacking a lot of what he went through in LJ. And Saori will NOT have to get dressed up as a hostess. But Hoshino will 😈

After almost 20 years together, this is the saddest day I've ever experienced. I thought I knew heartache when Saori Kimura failed at Rio and retired, or when the Hinotori Nippon faced those terrible controversies during the qualification rounds for Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016. I remember the sting of disappointment when Hinotori Nippon was eliminated in the preliminary round at Tokyo 2020, missed the final round at the World Championship in Italy 2014, and failed to secure the gold medal at the Asia Championship 2013. But none of those moments compare to the deep sorrow I feel now.

For the past three days, I haven't been able to eat anything, overwhelmed by this sadness. I don't know how long this will last, but I can't imagine ever forgetting this weekend. Both the Ryujin and Hinotori Nippon were eliminated in the most unfortunate way at Paris 2024, and this pain is just too much to bear. This time, the loss cuts deeper than ever before, leaving a wound that feels impossible to heal.

This weekend will forever be etched in my heart as the moment when my unwavering spirit was truly tested, and I don't know if it will ever fully recover.

You know, I’m a little worried that rgg is just planning on writing Yagami out of the next game

Mild spoilers under the cut

Given how popular the series was in Japan (due in no small part to who exactly portrayed Yagami), I don’t see them just hanging the series up in the event that Kimura Takuya’s agency refuses to come to the table. He was the initial draw, of course, but the series earned its own fan base in the west by having arguably the best writing and gameplay out of any Yakuza/RGG game to date. As much as I hate saying this, Kimura is not needed for another installment to be a success, especially given how viciously some folks seem to hate Yagami just in general, and Kimura’s agency is not giving rgg any reasons to believe that he’s not expendable

But from a canon point of view, LJ being set in Ijincho with Sugiura and Tsukumo’s shiny new detective agency is scary, actually, if you think about the implications, and the Kaito Files kinda confirmed it for me too. Sugiura, one of the main characters of both games, is now in Yokohama. Higashi, another main character in both games, opened another branch of Charles in Ijincho, as well (per the Kaito Files). The crew at Genda Law Office and Mafuyu’s roles in LJ were negligible, aside from Saori (who is technically a player character, and so a main character, and who stated in LJ that she felt like she was being underestimated by both her client and her coworkers)

Kaito, yet another main character, has a brand new family, and there is no way Mikiko actually agreed to move into Kaito’s shitty Kamurocho apartment with all her money and whatever money she got from her dirtbag husband’s estate. That leaves an opening for Kaito to just move to Yokohama with his family. And Yokohama 99 only has one field detective and a pretty high profile win under their belt, so honestly I don’t think it’s all that much of a stretch to see Kaito start working there instead because they need the manpower, and Kamurocho is now too far away to reasonably commute. It’s also pretty reasonable to assume that Jun already goes to school in Yokohama (hell he and Mikiko probably live there) because of his father’s connections with the city (that reunion being held at the Blu Marino every year). I don’t think it was ever explicitly stated that Sadamoto was based in Yokohama, but the implication is there

Not to mention, if the series moved to Ijincho full time, Yagami has stated that he likes working and living in Kamurocho, and his only remaining father figure is still there. I don’t see him leaving, even for Kaito

Idk it’s kinda scary honestly, because Yagami is far and away my favorite character (for more than just his looks I promise), and I love the other characters with all my heart, but I do not want to see Yagami just left behind in Kamurocho while the gang up and moves to Ijincho. And with the whole Saori being engaged to Hoshino angle, I could totally see that souring and Saori bailing to Yokohama as well, especially since she’s expressed quite a bit of discontent at being overlooked and underestimated already. If her relationship with Hoshino goes belly up, I could see her stepping back from Genda’s office entirely and moving to get a fresh start

My Character Art

Hello there, Stranger!

Here's hoping that you are in good health. This be some of my artwork for an old character of mine. They were intended for the older Elder Scrolls 2 Daggerfall & 3 Morrowind quest mods I've been working on for... Oh, more than a decade now. She is a Orsimer, a Orc, raised in Vvardenfell & though I don't have a "real" name yet I have her life & questlines mostly finished.

I refer to her as Yaomo "the Spider", a runaway child raised Morag Tong enforcer that becomes a Redoran Privateer secretly helping runaway slaves escape Morrowind. It is based on the writing methods of Ted Petersons' Historical Fantasy & Kirkbrides' Team usage of Metaphysical Abstraction.

Orcs are based on the nomads of the Eurasian Steppe (specifically the Mongol invasions over the Carpathian Mountains), living mostly east of the Wrothgarian Mountains as established in Daggerfall. I've based this characters' features on mixed Eurasians, though I'm not a skilled artist. The 2 Profile pics that focus on her face are what I intend for Yaomo.

As a young adult, she is tasked will eliminating an ambitious wizard in the Daggerfall Region & must travel there from Vvardenfell. She befriends the target only to get captured & terrorized. The player is captured months later but together they escape & ultimately get their revenge through a dungeon built of traumatic events which define different historic eras. Yaomo can then accompany the player before she returns home to Vvardenfell.

In Morrowind, Yaomo has CPTSD & manipulated an alcoholic Redoran aristocrat into letting her captain their merchant ship as a Privateer. She uses this to move cargo, hunt contraband smugglers, & help runaway slaves escape. The player shares in a Lovecraftian mystery that further traumatises Yaomo & cripples her, with the quest built for roleplaying & the results being Yaomo becoming a traumatized monster or further building a happier life to help others.

Lovecraftian elements utilize the unfinished Dreugh & Bosmeri Morrowind lore, based around factions secretly serving the Gods & their efforts to minimize Generational Trauma on Nirn by gathering the Dark Waters [traumatic memories] on the ocean bottom.

Above, the artwork depicts Yaomo in her young adult state while in Daggerfall. She is physically based on the Olympian Saori Kimura, growing into a physique of Shiho Yoshimura, though I'm not a skilled artist given my resources. Not depicted is her health issues, as I want them to be rotting from parasites as a young adult. Her personality I based on the isolated "One Armed Wolf" of "Sekiro", the terrified Otoyo from "Red Beard", & the helpful weirdo Shinji from "Paradise Killer". She avoids social situations but speaks bluntly & is confrontational when mistreated. She has different motif bases on the different stages of her life.

Nakamura Yuuichi being main character's voice, so want to hear him much as possible, and PV was funny. The Demon Lord moves in with the Hero who isn't as strong as he used to be.

悲劇の元凶となる最強外道ラスボス女王は民の為に尽くします。/Higeki no Genkyou to Naru Saikyou Gedou Last Boss Joou wa Tami no Tame ni Tsukushimasu./he Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior

The cast is nice, it's including Fairouz Ai, Uchida Maaya, Suwabe Junichi and Ono Daisuke. PV looked great, and story is interesting so curious to see this.

This looked so cute and sweet, and the cast is nice with Wakayama Shion, Itou Masahiro, Kimura Ryouhei and Kobayashi Yuusuke. So curious to see this.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Can't just describe enough how much I've been waiting for this when it was announced. And finally see teen Gojou and hopefully lots of tiny Megumi and their lives together, so hopefully there's jujusanpo section as it was in first season.

it's about Mafuyu, who works as a prosecutor. She has this whole backstory in the game that feels.. classic comphet to me. her "first love" was this older prosecutor guy she looked up to and inspired her to be a prosecutor. Safe. not obtainable. and when he gets married, she feels Weird about it.

she's also dealing with Rumors at work about how her and this other male prosecutor could be a Thing (god they're Not). inspired by hero (2001) and the super gossipy prosecutors office. she's hit her 30s which is when people start getting Super Weird about her still being single...

How I feel about this character

Holy shit, I love him so fucking much. He's amazing. Tak is so talented at everything he does. His fighting is great (if a bit unnecessarily flashy), dance moves are funny but still perfect, and his humour is beautiful. The snarky comments to the puns (which I only started to love because of him), he never fails to make me laugh. Absolute pookie. Sure, he can be a jackass (he's based off of the ambulance chaser trope, of course he is), and him seeing the world in black and white whilst being morally grey himself irritates me to no end, but... oughhhh, I love him

Hmm, it's less abt him, more his VAs but I'm always gonna prefer his Eng. dub over his JP. dub. Idk if this is unpopular or not, but in thr RGG fandom, ik people tend to have the opposite opinion to me on this. I just think Greg's voice fits Yagami a bit more. Like in terms of the character. Kimura kinda... ehh.. some bits just need sm emphasis or diff line delivery that Greg always hits, sooo..

One thing I wish would happen/had happened to him in canon

Prison. Idk how he keeps getting away with trespassing and just beating up people in the street and shit (maybe he's Gregory House), but he should've served time at sm point. In my heart, that man is a convicted felon sjshsj

Chuuya furrows his brow at the bird-like thing, and it's... way too close to something else he's dealt with that he'd rather not think about. He's dealt with at least three monsters in this world that defy both logic and go beyond what most know about Abilities. Technically, he's harboring a fourth such unfathomable being.

He's both morbidly curious and simultaneously doesn't want to know where she's encountered whatever that thing is. Paired with that though and whatever strange, lumbering things she summoned before at the cafe, the question of who are you and where do you come from? itched ever stronger at the back of his mind.

For now though, focus.

Closing his eyes -- partially to think and partially to hide those thoughts from being easily read -- he considers their options. Two other guys? He finds himself thinking of who Mori would choose in this situation. The people who could provide the most optimal results undercover. That would probably be...

"Get me Fumihito Kimura. Tell him its an urgent job. I'll take the heat for pulling him away from any other important matters he might be dealing with if necessary," he says to one of his men, who gives a small bow and departs.

Then he points to another person among the crowd. "Hiraku, you're up for this one. I trust you can do a good job in the impersonation department."

"Yes sir," he bows.

"The rest of you already know what to do. How's our ETA looking?"

The man at the computer replies, "about two hours and twenty-three minutes, give or take."

The gears in his head were turning, filling in the gaps of his plans like clockwork puzzle-pieces into something more solid than the twenty or so-odd possibilities he had been toying with.

"Jun, Kazuo, Aoi, Cho, Saori, you five are on the distraction team. Make up some kind of road block or obstruction between our targets and the smuggler rendezvous to slow down their arrival. I don't care what, just make it look civilian. Buy us time to dupe the smugglers and send them on their way." A small chorus of yes sir's answered him, before he looked to Neo again.

"Yeah. You're sticking with me tonight until I say otherwise. Then it'll just be you, Fumihito, and Hiraku until we find that base." He swiveled on his heel and started for the cars.

"Let's go."

𝐍𝐄𝐎 𝐈𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐔𝐒𝐔𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐖𝐇𝐎 𝐃𝐎𝐄𝐒 the meat of the planning, but that doesn't mean she isn't capable of it. While the old methods used to be her gathering intel and Roman making the meat of the plan- with her improvising as necessary (and it was necessary more often than Roman would like to admit)- she's good at sneaking around. She was already good at sneaking around before she went to the Academy, but going there only made her more capable of escape and infiltration both. Getting into places where she shouldn't be is practically second nature by now.

However, as Chuuya speaks, Neo considers his thoughts and then shrugs in acknowledgement. He's got a point, and the more people involved the easier it is for the plan to fall apart. Considering the plan again, she resets, changing it to herself and two other people. Neo and the driver, and then a pair of people to take the place of a couple of others.

I can go by myself, no problem. If we can spare two people that aren't weaklings, that's ideal. Because if nothing else, I can get us out easily.

In Neo's hands, a small black bird appears- only next to the illusions, it's more than large enough to fit all three figures on its back. Its four, bright red eyes blink up at Chuuya, and Neo tilts her head in a similar way. Her thoughts explained, she dissipates the illusion with a wave of her hand, and then gestures at their surroundings.

(Not for the first time, she finds herself curious about how many people Chuuya has under his command. Of just how much pull the Port Mafia really has. And of just how much her perceived 'Ability' must be a problem to them if he's so willing to make concessions to have her in their employ. Of course, she has the understanding that there are more factors at play, including the government but even so... it almost makes her preen a little.)

I'm guessing we're doing this tonight then? I'm ready to go when you are, if that's the case.
