Castello Cavour

La figura del conte Camillo Benso di Cavour è legata non solo a Grinzane Cavour (Cuneo) dove ricoprì l'incarico di sindaco per circa vent'anni ma anche al comune di Santena (Torino).

Qui si trova infatti il Castello Cavour, un vero e proprio museo che racconta la vita della famiglia e dello statista attraverso oggetti ed arredi. Di fianco all'edificio è situata la cripta di famiglia dove riposano anche le spoglie del conte.

Aloysius Gonzaga was born on 9 March 1568, the eldest of eight children, at his family's castle in Castiglione delle Stiviere, between Brescia and Mantua in northern Italy, in what was then part of the Duchy of Mantua, into a cadet branch of the illustrious House of Gonzaga.

NOTE: "Aloysius" is the Latin form of his given name in Italian, "Luigi."

Aloysius was the son of Ferrante de Gonzaga (1544–1586), Marquis of Castiglione, and Dona Marta Tana di Santena, daughter of a baron of the Piedmontese Della Rovere family.

His mother was a lady-in-waiting to Isabel, the wife of Philip II of Spain.

As the first-born son, he was in line to inherit his father's title and status of Marquis.

His father was a compulsive gambler. He grew up in a castle and was trained from a very young age to be a soldier and courtier.

As a young boy, he always had a great desire to know and serve God, but his family was not always supportive of this desire.

Despite the opposition of his family, he taught catechism to poor boys.

He encountered many holy people in his lifetime. He received his first Communion from St. Charles Borromeo and studied under St. Robert Bellarmine.

As a teen, he suffered from a kidney disease, which he considered a blessing, as it left him with plenty of time for prayer.

At 18, he signed away his legal claim to his title and his family's lands.

He then entered The Society of Jesus, commonly known as the Jesuits.

He died on 21 June 1591 at the age of 23, having devotedly cared for plague victims in Rome in the outbreak of 1591.

He was beatified by Pope Paul V on 19 October 1605. He was canonized by Pope Benedict XIII on 31 December 1726.

He is the patron saint of youth, AIDS patients, and AIDS caregivers.

THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT ALOYSIUS GONZAGA The Patron of Youth, Jesuit Scholastics, AIDS Patients and AIDS Caregivers Feast Day: June 21

"There is no surer sign that one is of the number of the chosen than to see that he fears God, while at the same time being tried with tribulation and desolation in this world."

The patron of the youth and those who suffered from AIDS, was born near Castiglione delle Stiviere, Duchy of Mantua, Holy Roman Empire (in Lombardy, Italy), into the noble Gonzaga family on March 9, 1568.

In order to satisfy the ambitions of his father, Ferrante de Gonzaga, the Marquis of Castiglione, the first-born Aloysius was trained in the art of war, and was obliged to attend military parades and royal banquets. He was so disappointed by the vices of the nobility that he developed an intense desire for religious life. He fasted three times a week on bread and water, scourged himself with a stick, and rose at midnight to pray on the stone floor of his room. In order to safeguard his chastity, he would keep his eyes persistently downcast in the presence of women.

After reading a book describing the experiences of the Jesuit missionaries in India, he determined to become one of them. In November of 1585, not withstanding the furious opposition of his father, Aloysius renounced his inheritance, which was confirmed by the Holy Roman Emperor. He went to Rome and because of his noble birth, he gained an audience with Pope Sixtus V. Following a brief stay at the Palazzo Aragona Gonzaga, the Roman home of his cousin, Cardinal Scipione Gonzaga, he entered the Society of Jesus on November 25, 1585.

Six weeks later, Ferrante died in peace with the Lord. From the moment his son had left him, he had completely reformed his life. Aloysius was a model of perfection. Aware of the dangers of pride, he requested to serve in the kitchen and to perform the most humble duties.

In 1591, while serving the sick during the plague, Aloysius contracted the disease, grew ill and was bedridden by March 3, 1591, a few days before his 23rd birthday. And after three months of suffering, Aloysius died at the age of 23, on June 21, 1591 - the Octave of Corpus Christi.

In the last letter to his mother, Donna Marta Tana di Santena, he wrote: 'Take care not to insult God's loving kindness, by mourning for a dead one who is living face to face with God. Our parting will not be for long; we shall see each other in heaven.'

Aloysius was beatified by Pope Paul V on October 19, 1605 and is canonized a saint on New Year's Eve 1726 by Pope Benedict XIII. His major shrine can be found in Rome. In 1729, Pope Benedict XIII declared Aloysius Gonzaga to be the patron saint of young students, and in 1926, he was named patron of all Christian youth by Pope Pius XI.

En sortant ce matin dans Santena, un bruit inhabituel m'a surpris. En même temps il n'y a jamais de bruit ici, c'est perdu dans la compagne et à 20 kilomètres de Turin. Mais voilà, il s'agit de motos dont le son traverse les champs pour venir résonner sur la place et mon balcon. En cherchant sur internet je me rend alors compte qu'un terrain de Motocross se trouve juste à côté, à Cambiano ! Je prends alors la voiture pour aller voir ça de plus prêt.

La lista Azione-ItaliaViva-Calenda ha superato al suo debutto il 10% dei voti validi ottenendo una risposta positiva dal Chierese-Carmagnolese.

Sono risultati eletti i due candidati capolista nel proporzionale sia al Senato che alla Camera dei Deputati Ivan Scalfarotto e Daniela Ruffino.

Alla Camera Il miglior risultato 17,54% si è registrato a Pino Torinese, il peggiore a Santena con il 6,87%. Risultati oltre la doppia cifra a Pecetto, Baldissero, Pavarolo, Lombriasco, Chieri, Marentino e Moriondo, in linea con la media nazionale a Carmagnola e Poirino. 

Si tratta di un ottimo risultato se consideriamo che la lista è nata dalla “fusione fredda” tra Azione e Italia Viva poco prima dell'avvio della campagna elettorale. Campagna che è stata un'esperienza entusiasmante, vissuta fra i cittadini nei mercati, nella quale abbiamo lavorato insieme, trottando e divertendoci, militanti di Azione ed Italia Viva, integrandoci al punto che ci siamo dimenticati delle rispettive provenienze. Abbiamo creato in modo naturale la casa dei riformisti, un progetto solido che dobbiamo far crescere, partendo dalla presenza sui territori, ascoltandone le istanze e condividendo le nostre idee improntate alla massima concretezza e fattibilità.

Dall’analisi del voto emerge che la fascia di elettori che ci ha scelto di più si colloca fra i 18 ei 24 anni e questo ci fa ben sperare per il futuro e premia la prospettiva della nostra proposta.

Non abbiamo fatto promesse mirabolanti, ma abbiamo indicato le riforme possibili a partire da scuola e sanità per migliorare la qualità della vita di tutti. Siamo certi che questo stile molto “sabaudo” e pragmatico ci premierà perché già nei prossimi mesi molti nodi verranno al pettine e le promesse mirabolanti che oggi hanno premiato i populisti dovranno fare i conti con la realtà.  

Ci attende un lungo cammino: il campionato inizia adesso per ora ci siamo qualificati a pieni voti.
