I just watched Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town (1970)

Beginning the holiday blu-rays theme in true, but not quite onto the proper counted marathon yet, next was this section of holiday episodes & lesser specials that will serve as our prologue. [I should ads that much of the content of these first couple posts was watched kinda in the background...] 🌲 Blu Christmas Holiday Movie Asplosion 2022: Episodes & Lesser Specials Prologue! ⛄ The Tick: The Tick Loves Santa Fraggle Rock: The Bells of Fraggle Rock Invader Zim: The Most Horrible X-Mas Ever The Star Wars Holiday Special Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Frosty the Snowman Santa Claus is Comin' to Town 🦌 The first 3 are holiday episodes- The Tick battles multiple Santa, it's great, as that whole series was; The Bells of Fraggle Rock has become a classic in the minds of Henson/Fraggle Rock lovers, and deservedly so; but the Most Horrible X-Mas Ever has to be one of the single greatest Christmas episodes of any show ever. Unfortunately the "lesser" holiday specials don't fare quite as well... The Star Wars one is worthwhile mostly only as baffling novelty, but is nearly unwatchable. Speaking of unwatchable- Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol may hold the distinction of being the 1st animated Christmas special produced for TV, it's nevertheless unwatchable garbage. I couldn't even sit through it properly & watched in sped up. I then promptly threw it with the give-away discs. Pee-wee's special is goofy nonsense. High up the Mountain of the Whispering Winds lives The Winter Warlock! This villain from the Rankin/Bass “Santa Claus is Coming’ To Town" scared the crap out of me as a kid. I was always relieved when he turned into the kind, goofy wizard (voiced by Keenan Wynn) after his heart thawed. Another favorite villain from the Rankin/Bass stop motion special “Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town” is the grumpy and fragile tyrant Burgermeister Meisterburger. This nasty mayor outlaws all toys in Sombertown. He was the true baddie of this Christmas special but to me was always more a comic relief than a threat.
