What if when classic falls he like read a future article ‘his wonderland’ cus he’s a curious little guy and hear abt the original Alice in wonderland. So like the article was on Dream’s diary and how it talked of what the book was abt and what he wa using the money for, nightmare being missing and how mad he was at the makers of Alice in wonderland for trying to make money off his brother horrible story, and how their mother, and just stuff like that.

But when he mentions it suddenly nightmare drops something as he easedrops on the convo and just quickly excuses himself as he hears the dream had to be dragged away from where the tree was. And he blames himself for it, because DREAM WAS LOOKING FOR HIM, all that time he was looking for him. All this time he missed him for nothing, they could lived in wonderland TOGETHER. But now he’s long dead and that can’t happen and he so brokenhearted 💔.(can you tell I like angst??)

I do love some good angst :3

and an interview with dream would be interesting! As he goes through a lot as well and he refuses to let others alter the story his BROTHER told him. Dream will die on this hill as he keeps people from changing it to fit their narratives (because that is what ALL those people did. lie and change facts to make it seem like nightmare was the bad guy.)

The thing is though... I got this headcanon... that skeletons live for a VERY long time. Ngihtmare being alive? Not as much a wonderland thing as a skeleton thing (He grew older after all. he grew up in wodnerland. so it doesn't freeze aging.)

but happy to hear you enjoy the backstory i wrote them and it give you ideas!! I love hearing ideas and having people tell me them! <3

I myself like the ideas of adding like.. bonus chapters? after specific endings. Dream and ngihtmare's story could be part of one of those...

Though I will have to write the whole damn thing first and like... make the actual interactive story hihihihi

HEY Everyone!! I am back with LORE!!

Ahem.

Okay. Foremost. How did Nightmare end up in Wonderland?

Nightmare and Dream originally lived with their single mother Nim. Who their father was they never knew as Nim refused to talk about it. But Nightmare himself quickly figured out that he reminded Nim of their father. As Nim was clearly loving towards Dream but almost downright hostile and neglectful towards Nightmare.

At first Nightmare was hurt but Dream still loved him adn was his best friend so Nightmare didn't care too much (it is a lie. It hurt so badly)

But it was enough and it had to be enough.

That was... until the three of them moved closer to a town. Nim had found work on the fields there and Dream and Him were often left alone in the house. It was far in the past and Nim hadn't had enough money for en education for both of them aside from the very basics. (don't ask me from which time they are. just imagine long long long ago okay? thanks :D)

So Dream and Nightmare were often left alone.

Eventually it meant that others got to know the two. and Dream was the social butterfly we all know him as and Nightmare was much shier and unsure.

But in the start that was fine! they made some friends and all was well.

Nim would return from work and dream would cheerfully talk about their day as they ate dinner.

It was nice.

But... well... Nim would tell other parents that while Dream was a beautiful perfect son Nightmare was difficult. Always quiet. Not as helpful as Dream. Always stubborn and talking back (nightmare would just ask why something was as he was curious)

and those parents. told their children to stay away form nightmare. so he would not be a bad influence.

Which in turn. They couldn't play wiht either twin as Dream was ALWAYS with Nightmare.

So the children began to dislike Nightmare because they saw it as his fault they couldn't play wiht Dream anymore. Because Nightmare was Bad and they weren't allowed to be near him but Nightmare always kept Dream with him! It was unfair!

So... they started to exclude him. Not even talking to him.

And Nightmare, the insecure and shy bean, started to retreat more. read a few of the story books he could more. and Dream, while loving his brother, grew bored of only reading books. he didn't care for books! He wants to play and run and have fun!

Nightmare encouraged his brother to go play. he is fine reading (he didn't want his brother to start disliking him) So dream went to meet up with their (by now just Dream's) freinds!

and things were okay for a little while again. Nightmare was more lonely but he was oaky wiht his books and he loved hearing about Dream's adventures.

Then... the children started to be mean to Ngihtmare on purpose. Because nightmare was a Bad Kid. So he Deserved it!

and Nightmare. After his book was taken. Told dream. told his brother that his friends took his book.

Dream asked his friends but they all denied it. Saying that they hadn't even seen nightmare and that they didn't understand why nightmare didn't want to play with them anymore.

Dream asked nightmare if maybe he displaced it? Maybe it is just somewhere?

Ngihtmare was angry and hurt. Why didn't his twin believe him?

Then Nim found out that nightmare 'lost' one of their few books and got mad at him. How could nightmare have been so careless! She spend hard earned gold on that book!

nightmare tried to once again explain that the other kids took it! He idnd't lose it!

but Nim didn't believe him either. Told him tha tlying is a bad habit and he should stop it right away. that just because he was jealous that dream had friends and he didn't that it didn't mean he could just LIE to try and ruin those relationships.

Nightmare was confused and hurt. he was speaking the truth. why did no one believe him?

dream meanwhile started to doubt his twin. maybe he really was jealous? Dream treid to encourage him to hang out with their friends again but Ngihtmare dind't want to be near those kids. They were all mean.

One day... as Nightmare was running from a group of kids hunting him. He came across a small hidey hole. under a very large beautiful apple tree with beautiful coloured apples. He dove under it and crawled as deep as he could. Hoping he could stay hidden.

Only... to fall.

He fell into wonderland by mistake.

But.... people were nice here... The two skeletons at the tea party were nice and helped him get cleaned up. the one with the patchworked clothes, error, was nice enough to fix his clothing. and the weird guy with ever shifting eyelights, ink, was nice enough to use his broom to heal his small wounds.

The two listened to him as he told them what happened. and they didn't question it. when nightmare asked them why they beleived him they just asked him why he would lie to them? they don't see why he would lie so why would they beleive him to be lying?

Nightmare was close to crying. for the first time in his 10 year long life people believed him again.

He spend some time there. Eating and drinking good foods and was sad to have to leave. Error ended up giving him a very special gift. a small charm. knitted together himself. Error told him with this charm he would always be able to find this world again. That this world would always welcome him back. But to make sure it was hidden so others could not steal it. It wouldn't work for them but it may lock Nightmare out.

Nightmare nodded and swore he would keep it hidden.

He spoke with everyone there and managed to convince the queen to let him leave after playing a few games with her. the woman had been really nice. worreid about him but willing to let him leave again.

Nightmare left Wonderland in a much better mood. Back at home Nightmare waited until he was just wiht dream to tell him about this glorious world he had found!

Dream had frowned before smilign and muttering about that being nice.

Ngihtmare figured dream was just worreid about him and he reassured him it was safe! everyone was nice and welcoming! He asked if dream wanted to visit it with him the next day.

Dream declined. Said he promised some other kids to visit them. Ngihtmare nodded and said that was fine.

The next day nightmare went back.

and the next.

and the next.

and the next.

Then one afternoon he got home to his mother being furious. Things had gone missing and she pointed at Ngihtmare for having done it. Ngihtmare told her he didn't! He had been in the forest! He swore he didn't do it!

He was send to bed without supper and after some very serious htis for stealing AND lying again.

Dream sat next to his sniffing twin and muttered softly that he should stop lying.

Ngihtmare stared with betrayal at his brother. telling him he DIDN'T lie!

Dream looked unconvinced and asked him if he didn't lie about the giant mushroom forest either? or the castle with this queen of hearts. Of these playing card soldiers?

Nightmare stared in shock and muttered that it was the truth. He didn't lie... and he could prove it!

Dream sighed but nodded. sure. he would tell his friends in the morning he was busy and in the afternoon go to this fake wonderland wiht nightmare.

the next day. as promised. Dream told his friends he would be busy before going with nightmare into the forest.

It took them but a minute to find the tree and nightmare started to climb in.

dream stopped: I am not crawling! I will get dirty! nightmare: it is fine!! Ink will clean it up in seconds! come on! dream: this is stupid! I know you are lying! We will get stuck in there! Ngihtmare: I am not lying! and if for ONCE you would beleive and trust me i can prove it! dream: I am not crawling under a tree! I will get dirty which will mean more work for mom! not like you care about her! nightmare: I care about her! It is not my fault she hates me! dream: if you would just stop acting out! nightmare: I am not acting out! are you coming or not?! dream: I am not!

and nightmare continued crawling in. Dream saw his brother disappear into the rabbit hole

Dream: .... This isn't funny anymore nightmare! .... dream: you can't keep hiding in there! ... Dream: Stop acting as if you can't hear me! ... dream: FINE! Be that way! I can't believe i even TRIED to help you!

and dream left.

Drema returned much earlier to the village than he expected. He saw his mom working in the field and went to greet her.

Only to hear her speak about Nightmare. About how he always disappointed her and always asked the wrong questions. How he stole and stole and never owned up to it!

Dream was about to interupted when one person asked what had been stolen and nim spoke about her coat. only for the person to mention that she left it in the shed after the work the day before.

Dream froze... Nightmare had been truthful.

Nim frowned before mentioning that she will jsut say that she bought a new one. Nightmare deserved to be punished either way.

Dream left to meet with his friends. he needed to talk to someone he trusted and liked!

He got to his friends house and went inside. he got permission to come and go a long time ago. He went up to their room and waited for them. Only to see something under the bed. He pulled the box out and in it...

Was nightmare's favourite book. Dream opened it and found Nightmare's name writen in it. Dream looked through the box and found more and more things of nightmare...

Things his dear friends told Dream that Nightmare had to have lost... things that Nightmare told Dream those friends had stolen.

Nightmare had been truthful.

Dream rushed out of the house. Searching. Searching. he found his friend group. Only to hear them talking about how they hated it when Nightmare took up all of dream's attention. How dream was fun but nightmare was stupid and boring and shouldn't be allowed to even LIVE in the village. How they need to up their game to make sure nightmare knows he isn't welcome and needs to leave or die.

dream stood frozen again. their friends... no.. Dream's friends HATED Nightmare... they lied to Dream...

Nightmare had been truthful.

Dream ran back to the forest. As soon as he entered it he started yelling his twin's name. Screaming he is sorry. That Dream will be wiht him! Defend him! swear he will never disbelieve him ever again!

If nightmare had always been truthful.. Either that wonderland really existed... or he just needed a save spot. a spot only for nightmare to enjoy and FEEL save.

Ngihtmare's safe space. the space he had been willing to share wiht dream.

And dream told him it was stupid and fake and that dream didn't care.

Drema gets to the tree...

onyl to find it gone.

All that was left were marks in the ground of where the tree had been before. marks of pure white stone in the perfect shape of old roots.

Dream started to dig. Ngihtmare had spoken about falling for a long time into a hole! Maybe Dream can just.... dig in! find the path and get to his brtoehr!

He spend the rest of the day and deep into the night digging. until the adults found him and drag him home to nim.

Dream struggled. His mind reminding him that nightmare had gone missing a night or two before. That no one even searched for him.

Dream kept returning to the forest. Searhcing it for that tree that now haunted his dreams and memories. if he didn't find anyhting, which he never did, he went back to the same spot to start digging.

He didn't speak to the people in town anymore. Told his ex-friends that he HATED them for hurting Nighty. He cursed his mother out. Told her Dream HATED him for hurting nighty.

Dream cried and cried and refused to give up.

In the end...

Nim moved. Nim moved and took Dream with him. Away from that forest away form the last place he had seen his twin. His best friend. the one person who mattered most.

Dream never forgot the stories Ngihtmare had told him. Dream wrote them all down and kept them near. He took careful notes on what he rememebred the tree and the marks to look like.

And he kept searching.

As he grew older he knew he needed money. Nim had very little and hoenstly Dream didn't want ANYTHING to do with her anymore. Not after she tried and KEPT trying to poison Dream's memories, thoguths and opinions of Nighty.

Dream ended up writing all of what nightmare told him down into a book.

Dream called it 'His Wonderland.' made sure to write down everything that nightmare told him. how he told them.

THe book was a best-seller. and got dream the funds he needed to continue his search. Each time he was asked to talk about it he told everyone he got the idea from his brother.

Over time. as time went on and ages changed.

The stories name became Alice in Wonderland. (mostly because back when dream wrote it it was normal to call small children and children Girls. so people assumed Nightmare, or Nighty as Dream used in the book, was a girl. and in rewrites the name used was Alice. it also didn't help that nightmare LOVED dresses. so Dream had made his character wear a pretty dress. to give him something he never was allowed to have. dream had thought he honoured his brother in a way. give him a little but of the future and things he wanted...) With slightly other characters and changes to 'fit' the story better...

Dream was FURIOUS about this. but he couldn't stop it. but he sued and made sure NO ONE ELSE could used ngihtmare's wonders for their own gain. Dream put all the moeny in a safe place that he earned. the only thing he used was to keep searching for his twin.

He never found him.

by the time the story takes place? dream is still alive and searching for nightmare. praying he will find his brother and can finally apologise. and ask him if he is still willing to see this wonderful world that dream had been too blind to beleive in. to trust nightmare.

Nigtmare? Nightmare left his brother and realised that his brother hated him. That his twin hated him and didn't want anything to do with him anymore.

So why would he return? why would he return when the last person that mattered hated him?

he cried. he cried so much when he got to wonderland. the people there listened and the queen of hearts (actually nice. her meanness was added to give the new alice in wonderland some drama) held him and promised no one would get to him. And she sealed off the entrance and moved it. So others who needed it could find it but that nightmare would remain safe.

Nightmare grew up in wonderland. saw others travel through and learn something and about themselves before leaving. the queen of hearts did make sure those who left believed their travels to be dreams instead. to make sure her new son would be safe.

there were beings who left wonderland of course. the rabbits. they went out and returned with stories.

they returned one day with a book called Alice in Wonderland.

Ngihtmare read it.

And was hurt and furious. How dare his brother... after everything... he decides to use the things nightmare told him in faith and trust to earn money?!

Ngihtmare hated it and screamed and cried again. believing that his brther. once again. betrayed him.

Eventually the rabbits found the original copy of the book. the first edition. His Wonderland.

It was a bit better... at least his brother told everyone the truth that it was NIghtmare's story. that nightmare was a boy and had been his.

Ngihtmare still hated drema for taking the things nightmare had entrusted him with to make money. Ngihtmare hopes that dream is happy with whatever luxerious life he has now. With people who love and adore him like always.

Ngihtmare doesn't ened him anymore (a lie.)

nightmare doesn't miss him every day (a lie.)

but at least... ngihtmare knows that dream must be happier now. now that his useless brother is out of his way. (a truth. that he truly believes to be the truth.)

Ngihtmare hwoever... never lies to others.

Just like always. he is truthful. He just lies to himself sometimes. tha the is happy and there is nothing missing.

After he become an adult the queen of hearts willingly gave him the throne and as time went on new people moved in. people nightmare could actually trust and wanted near. his dear mates.

and His Wonderland? became all the more beauitful with each soul that decided to stay.

I dont have time for it right now.

I was thinking about the interactive sans in wonderland idea i had a while ago and i got thinking about how certain characters even got to BE in wonderland. Being:

How nightmare got in wonderland

How the story Alice in Wonderland exists in the story (because it does)

What the fuck is going on with dream

Because they are CONNECTED.

anyway. Remind me of that later. Because i got like 15 minutes before i need to go places and i dont have time to write it all down in a way i want.
