“Albuquerque, New Mexico is usually perceived as a city of drugs, violence, and poor housing. In fact, Albuquerque is named as one of the more dangerous cities to live in the United States. Gun violence being the main cause of death of teenagers and adults. Although the city may seem like a treacherous space, people in the communities come together to build their own safe space with inclusivity and creativity. Over the span of two years, I have involved myself in the art and punk community and since then, have seen the true beauty and culture that this city brings. In my digital .archive, I hope to provide a new perspective of the “violent” place we call home by showing the more beauteous parts that help bring individuals together by displaying their talents and creative projects. In a city with nothing but a super high homeless rate and gun violence. I plan to show the art, music, fashion and writing that bring this art community together to create an accepting, growing and representative space for creative individuals.”
My name is Neida Nevarez. I was born and raised in the 505. I am an MMA fighter and boxer and have always had a passion for art, photography, poetry and music. I would love to share my passions with creatives alike. I really got into local art and music during quarantine. I went to my first ABQ Artwalk back in the Summer of 2021, it was the first time I got exposed to local artists. I wanted to share every single piece I saw. It was amazing to know that these creative minds all came from the same city as me. Shortly after, I discovered diy venues such Flyhoney Warehouse, La Chancla and Ren's Den. Through these local venues I found talented musicians and bands that are now some of my favorite artists ever. I hope you see the love Burque has, there is no place like it.

“ Art has always been a gateway for me.
When I was younger I wasn’t really good at anything, I wasn’t the best in school nor the best at sports so it was hard for me to think of my self in a positive manner because I felt like I didn’t stand out. Once I discovered art, especially realism and the cartoonish aspect of it, I finally stood out. Nevertheless even with my love of art it still felt like I was missing something, I never was around people that liked art as much as I did nor was it present in my community as much as I would like it to be.
That all changed when I moved to Albuquerque. Seeing the love people have for art and how present and alive it is in this city is what makes me love art even more than I did back then. The community here is so vibrant and beautiful and it keeps me inspired to do what I do. I feel like I can grow even more here than in any other place.”
18 year old Bradley Posada moved to Albuquerque back in the Summer of 2022 to pursue Graphic Design at Western New Mexico University. He has had a passion for art since he was 8 years old. However, after moving to Albuquerque it has changed the meaning of art and community to him.

Proyecto Cumbion
Antonio Luis, Erving, Jamie, Raquel, Rafael, Andres, Artha, Isabela, Oscar
Proyecto Cumbion was formed by lead singer Antonio Luis when he felt like there should be a group with the original Cumbia Colombiana taste. After finding others with the same passion, they bonded over feeling like outcasts and never really fitting into other music groups they had tried to join. With Proyecto Cumbion, they found a family and most importantly a perfect way to share their culture.
I got to interview with Erving Nevarez (animador & back vocals)
N: What got you into music and how did you build your group?
E: What got me into music was church in Mexico, my grandma use to attend and one day they gave me the opportunity to play with the drums and automatically fell in love.
N: What has it meant to you to spread Cumbia culture throughout Albuquerque, NM? Why do you think Albuquerque is the best place to share your music?
E: “It’s a great honor to help spread cumbia around our city and state, it has been a long road and we are barely starting. But New Mexicans love culture and specially when it represents something special to them and their values.”

MOMMY MILKERS
Mommy Milkers is a 5 piece band conspired of Cara (lead vocals), Trevon (rhythm), Ryan (lead guitar), Darven (bass), and Jacob (drummer) was built in Summer of 2021 when Trevon and Cara bonded over wrestling, punk rock bands and playing guitar. They formed their band and performed their first show in August of 2021. Shortly after, they opened for California punk rock band, Destroy Boys in December of 2021, and GWAR in October of 2022 two of their biggest inspirations.
Neida(N), Cara(C), Trevon(T)
N: How did this band start?
C: We met through Instagram, Trevon messaged me because he knew I did wrestling. He also wrestled. We bonded over Thrash Metal and having a similar music taste. Trevon said he was looking for a bass and tried to convince me even though I did not know how to play bass. Trevon then texted me that I was now apart of his band and I was going to play bass for him and since then we have been Mommy Milkers.
T: Well, we went through a few different names such as Roadkill and Blessed then Cursed but eventually we became Mommy Milkers.
N: What bands inspired you guys?
C: Our biggest idols is Destroy Boys, I got Trevon into them early in their career.
T: GWAR! A big one is definitely GWAR.
N: Where are you guys from?
C: We are from Shiprock, New Mexico. We spent the majority of our toddler years there. I got introduced into the local metal scene at a young age because my mother is friends with Chuck from Single 99. I grew up with them and I’ve been just watching them forever.
T: Yeah my first local show was last year at Alien Fest I went to see Single 99 with Cara
N: How did you guys come up with the name?
T: We were sitting in the garage trying to come up with a name and I said Mommy Milkers and at first Cara thought, what are our parents going to say
C: I was kind of embarrassed but sure enough we stuck to it and now we are MOMMY MILKERS!
