I’m in a mood.

So I’m gonna talk about Ella.

I mentioned Ella in my rant about Sans and Cinder as a couple and said she was a story for another day.  Well, today is that day.

When I come up with stories like this, sometimes I play the sims and make random households to see who gets together and who doesn’t and where their relationships go.  It should go without saying that, when I was finally able to, I made a household with Sans and Cinder.  They ended up married and I was just gonna leave it at that. Then I find them doing some woohoo and next thing I know I get the notification that Cinder is gonna have a baby.

Ella was, both in game and in story context, not planned. But in the end, I fell in love with the adorable little girl that had come from these two sims.  So, I decided to add her into Rent Free.

Let me set the scene.

Cinder and Sans are finally figuring out their relationship status and decide to try some new things as a couple.  During one night of trying these new things, Sans and Cinder end up soul bonding. Neither think this is a big deal, as in the world of Undertale, there’s no records of half monster, half human children.

So imagine their surprise when Cinder’s doctor happily congratulates her and Sans after the former goes in for some weird feelings in her chest.

Toriel and Papyrus are excited as could be, as is Emerald.  Mercurey is too, but he does comment about whether or not the baby will be a skeleton.

Even if he didn’t mean to, Mercurey’s comments do send Cinder into a spiral of panic that surfaces every now and then while she’s pregnant.  What if something’s wrong with the baby?  What if the baby doesn’t survive? What if... what if she’s not a good mother?

Sans, himself, doesn’t let Cinder know he has very similar fears.  His biggest fear is if he’d be good enough to support all three of them.

Therapy helps, but they are hesitant to talk to each other about it.

Time speeds by and Cinder gives birth to a lovely little girl, a bit on the pale side with black hair and golden and blue eyes (heterochromia).  But one of her fears did come true:  Ella was born without her arms.  Cinder feels like she should be devastated, but, looking at Ella, she found that she didn’t care.  She loved her daughter, imperfections and all.

When the two new parents are finally able to lay together, their daughter between them, Cinder confides in Sans her fears and hopes now that Ella has been born.  Sans comforts her, reminding her that she’s not alone and that they can do this together, and with their found family.

Ella, herself, is still getting developed, though she’s got her mother’s determination and her father’s laid back nature.  It takes until she’s older, but she uses her monster powers to create skeleton arms for herself.  Her parents adore her, as do the others in her family.  She loves hanging out with her uncle Papyrus and aunt Emerald.

She obviously isn’t a solution to Sans and Cinder’s issues but watching her grow up does help them understand how far they’ve come.

As I said, I’m still working on her (all this happened like 3 years ago and I’ve been taking too long in playing that save in the sims again) but I adore the concept of Ella and I hope to actually draw her.

I actually had to think about this one a little bit, but if I had to pick one entirely serious ship I'd go with Horn x Robyn Hill, they're both very used to fighting for an oppressed people by this point in the story and I feel like they could get along quite well. Their potential dynamic actually reminds me of Schneewood Forest in a way.

Cinder x Talulah just seems funny to me for some reason

Taiyang and Saria bond over being divorced dads, get married, then get divorced. Silence's Homewrecker Instincts activate but she can't decide which one to sleep with so she ends up choosing both of them. The whole thing ends with everyone miserable but Saria and Tai have both doubled the size of their repertoire of dad jokes, so the real losers are Ifrit, Yang, and Ruby

Ruby is too busy gushing over all the Terran technology to get shipped with anyone, but she probably makes friends with all the engineers

Weiss collects a harem of people with ice powers

Silence's Married Woman Senses go off the moment she sees Willow, Willow gets her first orgasm in at least a decade as a result (and then her second, third, fourth, and so on)

I think Jaune would see Nearl and be painfully reminded of Pyrrha, poor boy would watch Margaret do her Paragon of Chivalry and Goodness thing and start sobbing uncontrollably on the spot

Specter and Nora become fast friends and cause no end of trouble

Blake and Blaze end up dating solely because they think it would be funny to watch everyone around them mess up their names

Yang marries Nearl and then I marry both of them because tall busty blonde onee-sans who could kick my ass activate all my neurons

A Short Valentine's Day Story

Toriel smiled as the aroma of butterscotch pie filled the kitchen.  She was busy baking for her fellow tenants of the complex, as a present for Valentine's Day. Of course, Toriel was not alone. Along with the lovely aroma, other young bakers had joined her in making treats, for their family and friends and their Valentines.  Obviously, it wasn't everyone, but Toriel was pleased to have such wonderful company. A quiet sigh of frustration came from her left. "Is everything alright, Cinder?"  She asked, glancing at the young woman who was staring at a a group of messily made cookies.  One could clearly see they were hearts, though it seemed the dough didn't agree with Cinder, as the edges were a bit jagged. "These are just...not how I thought they would come out."  Toriel noted her attempt to keep calm as she grabbed one of the doughs left to the side to be worked on.  She slammed it onto the table, a little too forcefully, and started rolling it out. Many of the other bakers glanced up, but only for a moment.  Toriel put a gentle paw on her shoulder. "I know you said you used to work in the kitchen in the past... I imagine it's been a while since then."  The goat mom smiled.  "You don't need to force yourself to remember how to do something." "I know, I know."  Cinder grumbled, giving up on her rolling and looking at Toriel.  "It's the first time I'm paying attention to let alone participating in Valentine's Day.  I just want it to be perfect."  She turned away for a moment, Toriel just barely seeing her ears turn red in embarrassment.  "He deserves it, after all I put him through." "He stood beside you because he knew you were capable of changing."  Toriel and Cinder glanced at Sophie, who was busy decorating her cookies.  "You're in a very similar situation as Darios.  He still isn't trusted by those from his world, but he's slowly becoming a better person because he's in an environment where he has support to change." "Most of the former villains are finding it easier to change, because of that."  Toriel added. "Plus, you love his family!"  Serena commented from across the table, handing pink food coloring to Mallow.  "I'm sure he'd rather be with someone who likes his family."  Cinder let out a good-natured chuckle. "Well... It's hard not to like his brother." "Right?!"  Serena's eyes were practically shining.  "Do you think he'll be excited?" "Knowing him, I bet he's sleeping at his job."  Cinder snorted, grinning slightly.  "Honestly, I don't even know how I managed to get any feelings for him."  The girls giggled as she added a quiet "Lazy ass." Cinder glanced down at her not so perfect cookies and a small smile appeared on her face. "He isn't the type to judge people too harshly, is he?" "Not for something you put your heart into to make."  Toriel responded, sharing her smile.  "Now.  We have more baking to do." "Right!" ~ Later on in the evening, Cinder stood nervously outside the Fast Break Nook, a little cafe in town, waiting for her date to arrive.  Internally she kicked herself, for forgetting their date was set up at the Nook, which was well known for deserts. Glancing up, she started watching the couples walking by, listening as they smiled and laughed together.  Would she and her date end up like that?  Part of her hoped so.  Cinder blinked, as a small snowflake landed on her cheek. "Huh... I didn't know it was going to snow.  Hopefully he won't get caught in traffic..." "Snow way I'd ever be late to this, Ms. Fall." Cinder jumped slightly, turning to see her date. "Sans, you really shouldn't take a short cut behind me."  Sans smiled his usual lazy smile. "Sorry, sorry."  He said, offering a hand to her.  "Shall we?" Cinder gave him an affectionate look before taking his hand. "I'd be delighted." "So, I hear you were baking with Toriel today." "I did... The cookies...aren't perfect." "They don't need to be.  I'll love them anyway if it's from you."

A short Valentine’s Day story I wanted to write.

Cinder X Sans is a pairing I never thought I’d like, but I feel like there’s a lot of potential.... for Angst.  And a big part of my Rent Free Verse AU is exploring how villains would be if they decided to change. I may do a full fanfic of Cinder’s evolution in this AU including her relationship with Sans and his family and friends.

I know I’ll be the only one who ships them but eh. This was more for me.

Uncanny X-Men Abridged: 1982

The X-Men, those Brood-snatched mutants that have sworn to protect a world that hates and fears them, are a cultural juggernaut with a long, tangled history. Want to unravel this tapestry? Then read the Abridged X-Men!

(Uncanny X-Men 153 - 164, Annual 6) - by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum, Josef Rubinstein, Bob Wiacek, Brent Anderson, Bill Sinciewicz

“So, this year will be about an epic space saga with the Starjammers and the Shi’ar, and I’ll imbue one of the women with cosmic powers.” “Didn’t you already do…?” “No, you don’t get it. This time, she won’t be one of the X-Men. She'll be an ex-Avenger. What? ...What?” (Uncanny X-Men 164)

The year 1982 is a pretty diverse one for the X-Men. It’s got:

Shi’ar politics

Brood plots

Shi’ar court drama

A little fairytale (and a little nightmare)

Brood intrigue

Shi’ar space opera

Brood backstabbings

There’s also a pentagon raid and some dracula shenanigans or whatever, but like 80% of this year is one big, honking space opera: the Brood saga. I know this is a fan favorite story arc and I know that me not being enthusiastic about all of this is my own bias. I know I prefer stories that take place on Earth and all this space bullshit is not my cup of tea, but damn. It’s not bad or anything, but it’s just so long and there’s just so little levity throughout.

Okay, I can do this.

Before we head into space, the X-Men are moving on up! After the mansion is trashed one too many times, Professor Xavier decided to relocate to the Bermuda Triangle!

Jesus fucking Christ, Professor, every single time I think you might turn a new leaf, you go on and pretend boundaries are optional for you. Ugh. How cute is Illyana’s little t-shirt, though? (X-Men 154)

Scott and Ororo are finishing things up at the mansion and bonding over racquetball when Corsair the Starjammer crashes into the lake, chased by a Shi’ar dreadnought. Or a Sidri hunter? Whatever. Aliens. Scott, Ororo and Corsair manage to defeat the Shi’ar even though they blow the mansion to smithereens (again!), but Scott incidentally finds out through a Tragic Keepsake (an old locket) that Corsair is in fact Christopher Summers, his father. Corsair promptly breaks the news that his mother was raped and murdered by D’Ken, the previous insane Shi’ar emperor.

It’s... not a happy family reunion.

Scott is obviously unhappy that Corsair never bothered to get back to Earth and find out what was up with his boys (kind of justified), while Corsair is kind of freaked about how cold-blooded Scott can be in his leadership. (Not v. justified. You don’t get to be mad how somebody turned out in your absence.)

Anyway, an even bigger space ship renders their brief victory moot by simply beaming them the fuck out of there. The Shi’ar even pick up the rest of the X-Men from their island, somehow knowing to pick up new X-Man Kitty but not Carol and Illyana.

The sitch is as follows, as Corsair reveals: a lady named Deathbird kidnapped Lilandra. She’s Lilandra’s older sister who forfeited the throne when she ‘accidentally’ killed their mum and who can only claim it again when Lilandra dies. (Appartently, with the Shi’ar, the line of succession is more like a loop.) She implicated the Starjammers in her sister’s kidnapping and this enticed the Shi’ar to come to Earth, Corsair’s home planet. The Shi'ar then recruit the X-Men into doing their dirty work for them: if they don’t recover Lilandra in a day or two, they will blow the Earth to cinders. It’s all v. 24.

The X-Men are shunted back to NYC, sans Kitty and Nightcrawler. They will serve as the Shi’ar’s hostages and Kitty quickly gets her mits on a costume machine.

Completely against Claremont’s usual style, this is not a foreshadowing of Kitty being a father. (X-Men 155)

Apparently Deathbird (who looks awful here) doesn’t work alone: out on the streets of Manhattan, the X-Men are not only attacked by Lilandra’s brat older sister, but also a race of cheap Alien-knock off… uh, aliens: the Brood. They look like the N’Garai, but with more scales, more wings and more vocal chords. I always feel like the Brood would be a lot more menacing if they wouldn’t talk.

In any case, theyd are formidable foes: they manage to impale Colossus and Deathbird snatches Xavier before she escapes into space. Goddamnit.

Fortunately, the rest of the Starjammers appear to help our intrepid heroes with their space-chase. They also have a Pokémon-Center machine that patches up Colossus. (Incidentally, they reveal that Colossus is 18, which makes the whole Kitty/Piotr-thing marginally less skeevy. Marginally.)

Meanwhile, one of Lilandra’s admirals, a dude named Samedar is in cahoots with Deathbird and… WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT A SPACE WHALE?!

SPACE WHAAAAALE *electrical guitar power chord* (X-Men 156)

Apparently, the Brood inhabit gentle space whales as their homes. Everyone acts horrified about this, because raping and pillaging the place you live on is something that humans would never do. The X-Men manage to free Lilandra and Professor X, but when Charles reaches out to Kitty and Kurt to deliver the message that Lilandra is safe, something inside of him assaults him, forcing him into a catatonic state. Oops!

The Brood, meanwhile, chitter that Deathbird has failed them. In order to save her hide, she promises them the powerful X-Men. The Brood, keen on snatching bodies with superpowers, decide she can live. For now.

The X-Men make a beeline for Earth, but will they reach it in time?

Fortunately, Kitty and Kurt heard enough of Xavier's message to know they should generally put a stop things. They break free, planning to bring the Imperial Guard over to their side. Using the costume machine, Kitty pretends to be Phoenix so they can grab Oracle, the telepath. Oracle reads their minds and knows they speak the truth: Samedar is a traitor.

Chaos ensues and, just as Samedar fires the bolt of annihilation (or whatever), the Starjammers are able to intervene. Earth is saved and this space arc briefly ends, but Charles is still catatonic!

While Moira and Oracle try to help Xavier, the X-Men catch the following tv show:

Slowly, insidiously, prejudice against mutants is on the rise. The artwork of the tv-program is hilariously bad: Kitty is all elongated and I thought Angel was Deathbird for a hot second (X-Men 158)

Moira points out that Xavier used to have ties with the government: they will have files on the X-Men. Kitty suggests using a Shi’ar-virus to wipe out the data they have and the X-Men go along with it, solidifying them as an anti-government group. Fuck the system! Sure, they have fought Sentinels before (rogue off-shoots of government programs), but this time, they’re infiltrating the actual Pentagon.

It’s Storm, Wolverine and Carol on this field trip and things immediately go sour when they encounter Rogue. (Rogue made her debut in the pages of an Avengers Annual where she stole Ms. Marvel’s powers and identity, but this is her first appearance in the Uncanny X-Men proper.) Storm wonders if Rogue is somehow connected to the government, not knowing that Mystique, as Raven Darkholme, is working there.

This panel is filled with so many questionable things: Wolverine calling Rogue ‘red’ (???), Rogue saying lah-de-dah and what the hell is that outfit? Is she a Scottish punk rocker getting ready for mass? At least she calls Logan li’l man. That is correct. (X-Men 158)

Do I love it? Do I hate it? I’m sorry, I absolutely cannot get over this outfit.

While Wolverine and Storm take on Rogue, Carol Danvers is chased by Mystique who has an unclear vendetta against the former Ms. Marvel. Rogue manages to take out herself when she bites off more than she can chew and steals Storm’s powers, while Carols manages to knock out Mystique and turn her in. Carol then proceeds to delete the files on the X-Men… and also the ones related to Ms. Marvel, wiping away her past self.

To me, this is the most engaging storyline of this year, because it highlights once again what the X-Men are about: sometimes, in order to do right, you have to sacrifice looking heroic. (Also, governments shouldn’t be trusted just because they’re governments.)

We’re skipping the storyline where Claremont shows he’s read up on his Bram Stoker, because it’s mostly Storm vs. Dracula and it’s not v. relevant. I think the most important detail is that Kitty’s parents are getting divorced and Kitty is (rightly so) being a teenager about it.

Far more interesting is the prelude to the Brood-sage. While Xavier lays dying of an unknown mental affliction, he flashes back to his time spent in Israel, where he met a catatonic patient named Gabrielle Haller and a man with a magnetic personality called Magnus.

The XMU saw this and proceeded to milk this for all the Xavier/Magneto-vibes they could possibly cram into a decade of movies. And it was glorious. (X-Men 161)

Somehow, Xavier’s jaunt in her brain tears down Gabrielle’s Walls of Trauma and she awakens from her catatonic state. Gabby seduces Xavier and Xavier of course sees no problems with trampling all over this doctor/patient-boundary. ffs Charles. Xavier, Magnus and Gabby spend their summer playing at being a throuple until she’s taken by nazis! It’s Hydra and Baron von Strucker! Apparently, Hydra incepted the location to a stash of gold in Gabrielle’s brain and now that she’s awoken, they want their loot back!

Xavier and Magnus team up and quickly recover Gabrielle, while Magnus uses his powers to turn some nazis into red mist. Compared to idealistic Charles, Magnus is established as the ruthless one who is willing to cross certain moral horizons to achieve his goals. This is the first comic that spells this out explicitly, and it’s absolutely not a coincidence that this is also where it is revealed that Magnus is a concentration camp survivor. Charles grew up a privileged rich white kid, while Magnus saw the absolute worst of humanity as a persecuted Jew.

Magnus doing a sweeping speech before flying off on a random inanimate object will always be a favorite character beat. (Uncanny X-Men 161)

To stave off any unfortunate jokes about the conception of David Haller, I will simply point out that Xavier’s waking up from his coma is about as random as Gabby waking up from hers. Lilandra ignores all this for narrative expediency and throws a feast! Huzzah!

And during that feast, the Brood, led there by Deathbird, tele-yoink the X-Men out of there! They leave Charles behind (we’ll see why next year), but do snatch Carol Danvers. With that, we finally kick off the Brood Saga proper! WoOoOoOoO!

When we check on the X-Men next, some time has passed and we get our requisite annual Wolverine focus issue. We see Wolverine escape the Brood and get hunted on some strange alien planet. Through flashback, it is revealed that the Brood have subdued the X-Men through mind-altering poison, essentially serving as a lotus machine. Wolverine’s healing factor has helped him stave off the effects and, more importantly, it has helped him kill off the Brood queen egg that’s inside of him.

Eep.

See, the Brood have infected/inserted the X-Men with Brood eggs, which means they’re incubating li'l Broodlings. Before long, the Brood inside will take over, giving them a Brood body with X-Men powers.

Wolverine kills his pursuers, once again losing all but a shred of his clothes. (Wolverine is naked more often than Storm is at this point.) He vows to kill all the Brood - even if they used to be X-Men! dun dun dun

MEANWHILE, back on Earth, Charles is taking the loss of Lilandra and the X-Men hard. He’s back at the mansion (wasn’t that destroyed?) and is taking care of Illyana, who is a lot creepier these days. He considers his dream deader than disco (Hi, Dazzler), nicely paving the way for the advent of the New Mutants.

Back on the Brood Planet, Wolverine has freed Carol, who’s had her body experimented on. Storm and Cyclops, meanwhile, have started picking at threads of their mental mindscapes and have begun to free themselves. One by one, they free the remaining X-Men and make way to a ship to escape this planet.

One of the Brood is called Kam’n’éhàr, once again proving that you can make anything sound sci-fi/fantastical if you sprinkle enough apostrophes on top of it.

Kurt and Kitty are on stealing-Lilandra’s-ship-back duty, but the Brood won’t let them go without a fight. The duo manage to get the ship launched, but immediately run into trouble. Shunted-out-of-the-airlock trouble, in Kurt’s case.

Yes, Claremont is a huge Alien-fan, why do you ask? (X-Men 163)

A running theme throughout this arc is the X-Men hesitating to kill the Brood, with Wolverine on one end of the spectrum and Storm on the other. While I sort of understand it with Storm and her ‘sanctity of life’-schtick, I don’t fully understand the rest of the team’s’ qualms. While I agree that killing when you have another recourse is bad, the Brood are especially unapologetically murderous and you’re trapped on their home planet. This should be less of a zero sum thing: at this point, all y’all are surviving.

Kitty saves Kitty and they beam the rest of the team up to Lilandra’s pleasure yacht, but they’re not out of the woods yet. They need to engage the warp drive while escaping the Brood’s galactic navy. Cyclops realizes that the Brood aren’t shooting to kill, which is just as well, because all the X-Men are out of sorts. Storm is crippled with doubt, Cyclops keeps seeing visions, things that should have hurt Kitty badly are barely a scratch, etc. Feeling especially wonky is Carol Danvers, but with her it’s because all that experimentation lets her ascend to cosmic power levels. Jean went Phoenix in space, Carol goes Binary. She promptly powers up the warp drive with her new powers, getting the X-Men out of there…

...stranding them somewhere in the depths of space. Things get weirder and weirder on the ship. Kitty, for example, recovers fully from her radiation poisoning and Wolverine, who knows what's up, is worried. Storm figures out the awful truth on her own, horrified to realize that her lost sense of harmony and balance is because she has been violated, because she is birthing an abomination. To save her teammates -- and perhaps her soul -- she shunts herself out of the airlock.

The rest of the X-Men are wondering why. Wolverine finally tells them they’re all Brood Kinder eggs and Binary, enraged, also leaves the ship. She… doesn’t bother with a door.

And with that completely unnecessary hole in the hull, we leave the X-Men in a vacuum-shaped lurch. I know we’re just past the middle of the Brood-saga, but this is where 1982 ends. More fitting, perhaps, to note is that this issue was the last of Dave Cockrum, the artist who conceived at least half of these characters for the first time in Giant-Size X-Men.

Next time, more Brood and more half-baked moral quandaries. Yawn. I can’t wait.

Best new character: 1982 is the birth-year of many of the New Mutants, but it’s also Rogue’s first appearance in an X-Men comic proper. While my heart goes out to Roberto and Dani, I still have to pick my favourite Southern Belle. <3 Can’t wait to see you on the team, sugah.

"How's he gonna know who you are if only you have a picture of him?" you aunt asks, eyes locked on the road. Her bright red nails, just as flashy as the rest of her outfit, glisten under the sun, fantasy jewellery and wrist watch doing the same. Her tanned skin almost glows with health in comparison to yours, yet to be healed from the past two months of tension and wait. There's also her signature and almost hair salon professional level of cleanliness when it came to grooming her hair, making her overall, outer appearance far more different and striking when compared to you.

"(Mom/Dad)'s all over the news now!" Frisk says, answering her question before you can even word your thoughts out in mind, too busy noticing how much you've let yourself go in so short of a time.

You plug your phone to the car charger and meet with the side view of your aunt's face. "Like Frisk said. The guy I'm meeting says my face's been thrown out on the news a lot lately, so he already knows what I look like." You pull down the mirror and take a quick look at yourself, eye bags and stress acne now partially covered with a cheap, (s/t) foundation and expression made to look less tired thanks to a full eight hours of sleep. Still, you're far from looking anywhere near to the days before Frisk's disappearance or all the pictures displayed on the news, these from a similar time. All the stress and constant sorrow was still present on most of your features, from something as subtle as the loss of brightness in your eyes to something as noticeable as the drag in your walk and the small slump in your posture.

"Do I look okay, auntie?" you ask, taking advantage of a stop sign.

Brenda spares a quick but meaningful glance at you and a small smile manages to show on her face. She stays quiet even as her eyes go back to facing the road. At a second stop, this one caused by a red light, she looks at you again, saying, "Why are you so concerned about that, dear? I get wanting to look well and dignified for meeting new people, but this is the third time you've asked me today." She giggles when Frisk does, both apparently sharing the same thought. "You look fine, by the way. Though a bit of rest could do you good." The light changes and she carries on driving, slowing down and turning on the signal when she sees the train station to her left. "How many hours do you work, by the way? If you're still working overtime, you should stop that now. Not only for my dear grandchild's sake, but for you to get your long overdue beauty sleep."

"...Sixty hours a week?" you mutter, already anticipating a dramatic reaction from her. Even Frisk seems to notice your answer's not favourable enough to her, so they brace themselves by grabbing on to their seatbelt and pretending they're not paying attention to the conversation anymore.

Staying true to herself, Brenda almost slams the brakes just as she's halfway into parallel parking and snaps her gaze over to you, eyes wide and mouth agape. "What?!"

"Sixty a week," you repeat, louder now. "I had to get my mind off Frisk going missing somehow, so I... took that chance to save up some more by working overtime."

"That's fifteen hours too much, dear." She frowns. "That's either twelve hours a day for five days a week, or working non-stop every day for at least eight to nine hours! No wonder you look so stressed. What about your friends? Your family? Your coworkers?" She seems to notice why you've lowered your voice and does that herself, reminded over Frisk's presence at the back seats. "Oh, honey…" She sighs. "Did you really just work, eat, and sleep those two months they were gone?"

"...Maybe," you reply, looking away from her. "I just didn't know what else to do, and having free time for myself made me feel more guilty about it. The only time I sat down was to watch some TV for when I couldn't sleep at night."

Your aunt finishes parking and lets out another sigh. A gentler look crosses her eyes and she gives in, letting her body relax. "Do you have enough to get by? Please, be honest with me so I can help you out. Alright?"

You smile back at her and nod. "I have enough now. I'm pretty sure I can get by with a regular schedule again."

"With weekends off?"

"With weekends off."

Her smile grows and she unlocks the car, allowing you to step out. "Be careful out there, alright? Just make sure to call me and I'll head back here straight away if anything strange comes up."

"Thank you, auntie. So I'll pick up Frisk at five?"

"Oh, there's no rush. You can always stay the night, anyway!"

After a nod, you get down from the car, open the back door, and climb onto the empty seat left next to Frisk. 

"See you later, dear." 

You kiss their cheek and look at the phone resting in their hands. There were plenty of questions you wanted to ask them, such as who was Alphys and how she'd gained enough knowledge to develop something with that level of technology, and why it still worked up here despite being programmed to function at the Underground. You remind yourself of the people waiting for you at the train station and wrestle those curiosities down, setting all questions aside for later. "Be good, okay?"

They nod, sign a "Love you!" with their hand, and hold you back to give you a yellow sticky note, folded in two. "Give this to him. And don't forget he can be unexpected sometimes!"

You sign an "I love you, too" back to them, take the note, and step out of the car, waving at them and your aunt before closing the door and pocketing the note away. It stays unread, and while you'd like to know what's written on it as well as the reasons for Frisk warning you about meeting with that monster in particular, they'd specified it was for more sillier reasons, like that of meeting up with a stand up comedian, or more frankly put: a clown or a court jester.

Now alone, you take out your phone and check the messages, a new one from 'Mister Serif' showing up.

hey, uh…

tori hadda go.

an emergency happened, so now she's gotta rush off to the department to see what's up with some documents she turned in.

i know this seems sus as hell, so just wait for me at a more open area, alright?

stick to anybody you're comfortable with and we'll meet there.

You can't avoid being taken aback when the monster sends you a picture of himself. It's a definite recent one, given he's sitting by a bench close to the train tracks. He holds up a shaka sign with one hand and a coffee cup on the other. A grin decorates his face and the bright lighting shows the picture was taken just now, sun rays piercing through the windows.

I'm somewhat convinced.

You stop yourself when you realize you're on the verge of flirting with someone you haven't even met in person yet, let alone introduce yourself properly to. The picture he'd sent doesn't help either, as you can only begin to question yourself and your morals over having found him attractive for a split second. While it could have just as easily been the surprise of him sending a picture out of nowhere, it could've also been how laid-back he seemed in that picture, striking a shaka sign that made him look just like a surfer dude and a coffee cup to contrast with that vibe, adding a spark of the typical college student you saw at campus, his hoodie and sneakers only adding to that feeling.

It's then that you realize something's off.

If he was holding a cup with one hand and a sign in the other…

Then who took the picture?

Though you're pretty sure you're overthinking the situation now, you're still better safe than sorry and take advantage of your recent fooling around with him to pass that worry off as a joke.

The picture displays him with a bearded, brown skinned man clad in a suit and holding a suitcase, looking ready for work. Still, his smile shows little to no seriousness and instead displays youth and content over having his picture taken with a potential friend. His height surpasses the monster's by half a foot, though when you compare it to the rest of the people in the background, it's clear Serif is simply shorter compared to the average human. You try not to let your eyes linger too much on the monster when you're done looking at the man, not wanting to fall into the trap of your mind having found him attractive earlier ago. Still, you can't help yourself and take a more thorough look at him again, seeing him now with his eye sockets closed, almost mimicking a pair of eyelids squinting in joy. His arm's hung over the man's shoulders, and vice-versa.

Strange Cinder date vibes aside,

I'm almost there.

You slip the phone back in your pocket and go up the stairs of the train station, stopping when you make it to the line of benches close to the tracks. True to his word, the skeleton sits on one of them and the man who'd taken a picture with him is now waving at him, seemingly saying his goodbyes and headed off to work. You approach the station one careful step after the other, pace slowing down more and more as you feel a sudden awkwardness slip on your shoulders.

Your texts sent off vibes you didn't want present now that you were about to meet him in person. You were still worried about what happened with Frisk a few days ago, and how their happiness pretty much froze when being asked if the monsters had treated them well during their time at the Underground. The one you were about to meet could very well be one of those who'd hurt them, so you brace yourself and try not to be swayed by the softer atmosphere present during your texting with him. You acknowledge the man who'd taken his picture with a wave and a smile back at him. Then, you continue walking and finally approach the bench.

"It's nice to meet you, mister Serif." You acknowledge him with a wave, unsure of how friendly you can be with him.

"Likewise, pal." He holds a hand out to you, bringing forth the warning Frisk had given to you about him.

Out of all the things Frisk had warned you about, it was to be careful around the skeleton, but primarily due to how he seemed to be the type to joke around and prank people often. One thing in particular you were warned about was in shaking hands with him, so right as he offers his hand out to you and just as you're about to reach out, you miss his hand, take a step closer, and pull him along for a hug instead. You then unfold the sticky note and press it against his back with enough pressure for him to feel it and let go when you're done.

"Frisk warned me about you, and even though they haven't told me anything I should be worrying about yet, I do know I should be careful for other reasons. And they told me to give that note to you, by the way."

You sit down and watch as the monster attempts to get the sticky note unstuck, his short height proving to be a disadvantage, as it also comes with shorter arms. He goes as far as to use his magic to get it out, leaving you to bite back a smile and wonder if you've been too rude with him just now. Still, you wait and keep your eyes on the train tracks while he reads the note you've left for him.

"Not gonna say anything about it?" you ask, surprised to hear nothing from him even as he slips the note in his pocket.

"Patience, pal," he replies, words followed with a chuckle and continued with a wink. "Just take it as some friendly payback on my part -- Now we're even." He sits back down and meets with your eyes, his expression changing from humoured to stern at the drop of a hat. "So, what you're sayin' here is the kid hasn't said much about me yet?"

"No," you reply, hesitating. You fight between keeping a smile and a frown. "They've been awfully quiet after I asked them if there were any people down there who treated them badly." You catch yourself becoming emotional, so you breathe and blink a few times to fight that back. "It...  It feels like they shut themselves away from me, and now I'm not too sure about how to approach the situation anymore." You stop to catch your breath again, feeling yourself grow anxious already. "They can talk non-stop when it's about all the good things Toriel, Alphys, Papyrus, and… And even what you did for them, but whenever I ask if there was anything that made them feel unsafe, they… They bottle up and run off to do whatever chore there's left to do around the house."

A gust of wind helps freshen up your burning face, product of a train stopping nearby. You wait for him to speak up, body tensed all the while.

"Y'know, I…" The monster sighs, faces down, and rubs the back of his neck, looking lost in thought. "I think I can answer that for ya, but it's gonna be a bit of a long story." He glances at his phone for a moment, seemingly to check the time, and later adds, "Wanna head out somewhere to eat? We can talk about it there over food and drinks. Better than talkin' on an empty stomach, don't you think?"

Despite how somber the mood's become, that trademark grin of his you've already grown used to seems to stand out a lot more now, bringing forth a genuine, welcoming expression in addition to the offer he'd made to you. "Sure," you reply, smile returning. "And... Sorry for dumping all that on you all of a sudden."

You both stand up and make your way out of the station, walking side by side as you continue with the conversation. 

"It's cool, pal," he says. "I'd be a lot more worried if you didn't worry about it."

So just to keep it clear, most of these ships are from crossover aus.  The most used AU is the one I call Rent Free, a mass crossover au that takes the term "Lives in your head rent free" quite literally. (Kinda, they still need to pay rent).  If I mention World's End, that's the setting of Rent Free.

May split this into two posts depending on how long this is.

Also I'm going to just focus on the relationships with EACH OTHER for now.  If there's any other interest, I can delve into their relationships with other people in each other's lives, much like how I did with Sans and Cinder in a previous post.

Anyway.

Let's start with Soren X Durant

Originally, these two were just going to be friends.

While Soren is much goofier and laidback compared to Durant, I found their attitudes meshing pretty well while coming up with ideas for them.  It took a while for them to actually be officially friends, since Durant takes a while to warm up to folks and Soren can be... a lot.

The two met through becoming Guards for World's End's council.  It annoys Durant, at first, because he doesn't fully trust Soren yet (not after finding out about Viren being his father).  But, the way he sees it, his lord, Euden, and Soren's lords, Ezran and Callum, are friends and the two have vouched for the knight, so he can't be all bad.

After some training together and seeing how much his wolves love Soren, Durant begrudgingly accepted Soren's constant offers of friendship (he wore him down lol).  The two of them ended up being partners for the most part, working together during shifts.

Their relationship became more than platonic when I start imagining them as (obviously) roommates.  Soren would wake up Durant by literally bouncing on his bed, Durant would let his wolves snuggle with Soren.  They ended up being more affectionate with each other and just kind of evolved from there.  No big fanfare, just two dudes realizing "Huh.  We're good togther.  Let's try it."

The two have more of that vibe of stereotypical "bromance" and Soren is definitely the more affectionate of the two when it comes to PDA.  While Durant is very quiet in his affection, he's very protective of his partner and will defend Soren with his life.

As far as how this idea came to be, it's mostly the case of: I was into both Dragon Prince and Dragalia at the same time.  Out of most of these, the development just kinda happened.  Like I said before, their personalities meshed for me when having them interact despite being so different.

Figures that the next 2nd highest pairs had a fire emblem character in there lol. I'll start with Titania and King Hassan.

Before Rent Free, I was doing a mass mobile game crossover, where the player (my character Dark), was able to summon folks from different mobile games to combat a virus called the "Mad Moon".  Nothing came of it, but it is something like Rent Free's predecessor.

Titania has a very complicated relationship with the concept of death.  It took many people she cared for and loved.  She didn't fear it for herself, but feared it for others.  Being summoned to Askr has been a bit of a relief, as the summoner did everything they could to keep her loved ones safe when she could not.

Meeting the man known as the King Hassan was alarming at first.  For a moment she thought she was staring the grim reaper in the eyes.  It was only when her summoner introduced the two of them that she noticed something about this reaper.

The blue lights, his eyes, were shining with something akin to affection for her summoner, his master, as he called her.

She could tell he was trustworthy.

As the two were considered seasoned warriors, both Titania and King Hassan (affectionately dubbeed Grampa Hassan by the younger assassins) would train the younger fighters and help improve their skills.  Over the course of time, they ended up growing close as allies, though Hassan was clearly drawing a line between them, something that Titania didn't mind.  She knew enough assassins to understand why he did such a thing.

The Old Man of the Mountain himself respected the red haired paladin, watching as she trained future fighters and continued to grow.  He noticed how she didn't mind the aura of death around him, how she could easily tell how much he cared about his master.  In all fairness, he could see the affection she had for his master, her summoner, as well.

He could tell that she would not easily betray them.

Their protectiveness of those they cared for only drew them closer.  An unspoken bond between protectors formed.  The two seek out each other's company, feeling at peace with someone who understands them.

While this isn't the most romantic ships, that wasn't really my intention.  It could very well be romantic, but it would be subtle.  Like for the longest time you see these two just hanging out, then one day Hassan happens to kiss her hand and you're like "WAIT WHAT THE HECK".  I don't think there would be any sexual stuff between the two, the closest to physical affection they'd get would be a hug.

Now for Ced and Lloyd.

This ship is relatively new for me, but I still have thoughts about them.  Should also note that while this COULD work for series!Lloyd, I'm kinda basing this off Movie!Lloyd.

Here's my thought process behind them being good fits: both boys have very tense relationships with their fathers, are associated with the color green, have ancestors that are considered insanely powerful, and they are part of some kind of resistance force.  They surprisingly have a lot in common, even with their desire to help everyone.

The relationship might be a bit rocky; Ced has a tendency to hyperfocus on things and ignore others, while not meaning to. Lloyd has to deal with his own depression and fears of being abandoned for what his father had done.  They'd need to have clear communication for the relationship to work, but that would take time and a lot of therapy on both ends.

As far as how they'd meet, it'd definitely be in a school setting.  Lloyd happens to be walking to class with his friends and sees Ced performing magic with an outdoor class and being in complete awe of his abilities.  Similarly, Ced happens to see Lloyd use spinjutsu and immediately grows fascinated by the power. What starts as a "hey I want to learn how you're able to do that" relationship would build into a friendship, which would develope into something more later on.

Again, I'm still very much working out the details of their relationship.

Since we're on a fire emblem kick, let's jump to Underswap Sans and Ephraim!

This pair came from a Three Houses Crossover AU that I just vaguely posted about on my art blog but never really got around to writing it. I'm going off memory for most of the bits about the AU, so keep that in mind.

Underswap Sans, whom I'll call Blue for the sake of simplicity, was the son of a merchant in the Golden Deer country (I wasn't gonna use the original countries but I never got around to naming the others) and Ephraim was a noble from (I believe) the Blue Lion House.  The two trained together and became good friends through it.

Ephraim, the attractive fellow he is, gets a lot of attention from everyone in the student body, but he grew attached to Blue and decided to focus on his friend when he didn't want to deal with the flirting of everyone else.  Blue himself knew he felt something insanely strong for his friend, but these two have no idea that they do actually have crushes.

In the Rent Free AU, similar to Durant and Soren, the two meet as members of the Guard and start out as friends.  Blue is the first to get a crush on him, finding Ephraim's dedication to protecting others admirable.  During a sparring match, Ephraim realizes his own growing crush on Blue. Though similar to the FE3H au, it takes them a while to admit it.

TIME FOR THE FATE POLYCULE

Ok, so this one is one of my favorites.

The predecessor of Rent Free is where this started, but also happened around the time that RWBY was focusing on Qrow improving himself and making friends.  And then... well that was the end for Clover.

In the predcessor, Qrow came to the world around the time Clover passed, so his emotions were extremely fresh (as was my growing animosity towards Ironwood, but that's something else entirely).  Before he arrived, Verica, of Dragalia Lost, had made friends with with Kibera, of King's Raid, which surprised a lot of people, as Kibera hates the concept of fate and Verica lives by it.  The two of them had much longer to get to know each other and, despite their personality differences, they somehow managed to get the relationship to work.

Seeing Qrow in pain due to his perceived "fate" to be alone, the two decided to help him through it (and by decided, I mean Verica told Kibera they were helping and Kibera couldn't say no to her). Verica offered words of comfort, some physical affection if needed; while Kibera provided a place to get Qrow's more violent feelings out.

The two of tthem grew to be important parts of Qrow's life, a type of support he didn't have before.  They didn't care if he was unlucky or if he didn't want to be close to anyone; they cared about him.

Kibera and Verica were the ones to ask if Qrow would be interested in a relationship with them.  They'd both fallen for him but wanted to make sure he was okay with having more then one partner.  He gave himself some time to think but in the end, he agreed to give it a try.

When Winter joined the team, Qrow was happy to see her again.  The two of them had an on and off relationship and wanted to introduce her to his new partners, whom he had discussed adding her into the polycule, if she was okay with it.  They had agreed, however, that making friends with her came first.  Winter bonded with Verica the strongest and the two spend the most time together when not with the boys as well.

Rent Free is pretty similar, in that Qrow is brought in first before they add Winter, though she and Qrow didn't have an on off relationship.

So here's to hoping this is one of three stories that I update today. I am going out of town for the 4th of July. My dad does this huge BBQ thing every year and I love to just go because it gets me to relax. Plus I want to just get away from California for a few days. I am under a lot of Stress and because of that I am doing edibles a bit more. Thus knocks my ass out which is why I lack in Updates. I apologize for that guys I don't mean to do that to you. Holy #@%!, I don’t need to tell you about the anguish you’re going through if you’ve discovered your partner cheated.

Most couples don’t have a “no cheat” agreement. It is simply assumed you won’t lie about who you are with and what you are doing.

The discovery feels like getting hit in the stomach by a cinder block flying at the speed of sound.

Suddenly it feels like your relationship was built on a pile of broken stones.

What’s real? What can you believe? You wonder if you are crazy. (You’re not.) You wonder if you should stay or go. You contemplate the painful uncertainties of any decision you make.

It takes a lot of difficult, awkward, challenging and illuminating discussions to sort out your individual and mutual values, interests, priorities and concerns.

But you have no chance of getting through this together if you don’t work together – as a team.

That’s right. This is a mutual reconstruction process.

a special message to the betrayed partner

You are going to have some tough sledding in front of you. Duh. And I am going to add to it. But my words will make things clearer sooner rather than later.

Here’s what I mean.

You will be asking tough and uncomfortable questions. And a part of your brain will be automatically scanning for the honesty and accuracy of your partner’s replies.

All it takes is a whiff of inconsistency or shading the truth, and you will be revisited by the cinder block.

And then you will be sorely tempted to attack the “lie.”

I understand the urge to attack. It is almost impossible to squelch it.

But you must refrain. Here’s why.

The attack will just drive your partner deeper into emotional hiding.

Which gives you more reason to attack – or retreat.

The wedge between you will grow even larger than before the discovery.

What I am going to suggest isn’t fair. But it gives you the best possible shot at a better future.

Whenever you ask troubling questions preface them by saying:

I know it won’t be easy to be honest to me, but I would like to know about _______and that is important to me because ________.

I promise not to attack your responses because that will make it even more difficult for you to be candid. It won’t be easy for me to avoid criticizing a response that seems only partially honest but I will do my best because we both have to be more candid about our perceptions, attitudes, hopes and fears.

We will have to get through this together or we will continue to suffer alone.

If a part of me suspects you are not being totally candid I will say, “I am having a hard time believing X part of what you are saying. If there was something you left out please try again and I will not attack what you say, thought or did. We have to get through this together.”

The big challenge for you is to avoid criticizing what you hear. It is not easy. It is not simple. It is not enjoyable.

But you seek honesty and clarity, and this will help you find it.

I’m not going to sugar coat it. The amount of repair work is huge.

But sometimes affairs are a wake-up call, a chance to reverse a bad direction or improve something that could be better. By using your head and your heart you stack the odds in favor of getting stronger.

“Rise of Skywalker” Questions

How did Palpatine survive the events of Return of the Jedi?

Where has be been for the last 30 years?

How did he build an entire fleet of Death Star Destroyers?

Where did he get the technology to build a thousand super lasers?

If he’s been pulling the strings this whole time, why did he bother making Star Killer Base after the first two Death Stars failed the exact same way?  A fleet of super laser star destroyers is objectively better and more useful.

Why did he build all the Death Star Destroyers on a planet they can’t leave by themselves?

Why can’t they navigate away from the planet without a radio tower?

When they turn off the radio tower, the head ship of the fleet is able to navigate for them anyway, so why can’t they all just do that and navigate for themselves?

What happened to the one Death Star Destroyer that blew up that random planet?  Did it return to get stuck with the rest of fleet on the planet, or is it still out on the galaxy?

Why did none of the fleet escape the planet during the battle?  Surely one or two or ten could have managed to navigate away (Poe says they couldn’t tell which was was up due to the magnetic field of the Sith planet, but, like, up is up, the sky is up, it’s really easy to fly up and away from a planet, just point your engines towards it and turn them on; ALSO a billion rebel ships made it all the way to said planet, so why couldn’t a single Sith ship leave it?)

When did Palpatine have a son?  With who?

Why was his son a “nobody” instead of the heir apparent to the Empire?

Was his son part of the Rebellion?  The Resistance?  Neither?  Rey was born in 15 BBY and her parents disappeared like 10-ish years later, but her dad is clearly older than 25, so he must have been born between Episodes 3 and 4.

Was he force sensitive too?  Why did Palpatine have his son killed and keep searching for his granddaughter instead?  Wouldn’t his son still be a valuable asset?  Rey’s mom told the random Sith assassin that Rey is definitely not on Jakku, so why didn’t Palpatine look on Jakku?

Who was Lor San Tekka in the Force Awakens?  Did he know who Rey was and guard over her like Obi Wan did to Luke?  Kylo has apparently known him for a long time (”look how old you’ve become”), so did he know Luke and Leia during the original trilogy?  Did he know Palpatine’s son?

In the books and video games, it is revealed that Palpatine sabotaged the Emprie after his death (search “the Contingency” and “Operation: Cinder” on Wookieepedia)  Why?  Why did he do this?  Why did he cripple his empire if he survived and continued pulling strings behind the scenes?  Is it because Disney is making this up as they go along and forgot to reconcile their new idea with their old idea from a few years ago?

Luke says that Leia knew Rey was a Palpatine the whole time, so did Luke know about her dad?  Did he ever try to recruit the son of the Emperor to the light side of the force, or did he just reject his dad because he was a million year old evil scrotum?

Palpatine says he impersonated Vader to try and lure Ben Solo to the dark side.  If Palpatine pretended to be Darth Vader, why didn’t the real ghost of Anakin come to his grandson and intervene?  Why did Anakin let Ben think he was evil?  Anakin appeared before Luke at the end of ‘Return of the Jedi,’ he appeared to Rey in this film as a disembodied voice, why didn’t he appear to his own grandson?

Palpatine created Snoke; was Snoke the product of his “Darth-Plagueis-midichlorian-create-life-using-the-force” technique he hinted about in that meme everyone has stopped caring about Episode 3?  If Anakin is Space Jesus (virgin-born chosen one), does that make Snoke the Space Anti-Christ?  If so, why did Snoke die like a bitch?

Darth Maul got cut in half but came back in the cartoon with robot legs and this was carried over into canon when Disney took over, so he showed up in another cartoon and then Solo; could Snoke have come back with robot legs?

Rey impales Kylo but then force-heals him; why didn’t Obi Wan force-heal Qui Gon Jinn after Darth Maul impaled him?  Disney just keeps making things up with no regard for continuity because they know the average consumer doesn’t care and that the opinions of butt hurt fanboys like me don’t matter because we keep shelling out money to see the franchise no matter how much we nitpick and complain...

Poe’s parents were part of the rebellion and Leia is a surrogate mom to him; at what point did he become a drug dealer spice smuggler for the criminal underground?  Did he leave the resistance to become a scoundrel then come back, or was he raised a scoundrel and then joined the good side because he was compelled to do so?  If the latter, doesn’t that just give him the exact same story arc as Han Solo in both Solo and A New Hope?

Where did the berries go after Kylo Ren spilled them in his room?  They show the audience that Rey’s and Kylo’s surroundings are linked when they have their dates visions, but the berries are gone in the next shot.  Also, did he leave Darth Vader’s helmet down in the village after Rey accidentally teleported it to him, or did he bring it back with him?  He was able to snatch the necklace AND the lightsaber from Rey through these visions, so the berries and the helmet were real and not just force projections.  (this one is a joke, I don’t really care)

Is Finn secretly force sensitive too?  I’d be totally down for that; I’ve wanted that ever since 2015 when we saw the first teaser of him holding a lightsaber!  He sensed Rey was hurt AND knew exactly what ship to attack because he “had a feeling.”  Is this going to go anywhere, or was it just a plot device so he could find the one ship he needed out of the entire fleet?

Where was Lando for the last 10-15 years (however long it was since Kylo’s fall and Luke’s exile)?  Where was Wedge Antilles who appeared in exactly one shot and then never again?  Where was Nien Nunb and why hasn’t his name ever been said on screen?  Speaking of names, I think Poe was the first person to ever actually say Snap Wexley’s name on screen, but even then only his nickname and not until he was shot out of the air and exploded.

Why did Zorri Bliss change her mind to much?  First she wants to kill Poe and sell out his friends, then she wants to run away with him and gives him her MacGuffin so he can slip onto the enemy ship, then she saves his ass during the final battle, then when he gives her the bedroom eyes she shakes her head to turn him down.  Why is she here?

How did Maz Kanata get Luke’s lightsaber?  How does Rey have the lightsaber after it was destroyed in The Last Jedi?  Canon nerd tech manuals say that kyber crystals are super important and that broken ones don’t work right (Kylo’s blade is all fizzly because his crystal is cracked), so how did Rey repair it?  Where did Rey get the crystal for her yellow saber?  I heard someone say that it’s actually white and it’s supposed to be a combination of the classic blue, green and red saber colors, but she didn’t have Luke’s green saber, she had two blue sabers and Kylo threw his red one away.

And most importantly

Where is Baby Yoda?  Surely he has to be Little Kid Yoda by now; it’s been like 20 years since the events of The Mandalorian.

I don’t even enjoy this franchise anymore.  I know my opinion doesn’t matter, so I’m just gonna stop giving it.  I’m done with Star Wars media.  I’m not gonna watch it anymore; no anthology films, no more saga episodes (because we all KNOW x, xi and xii are in the works no matter what Disney says), no streaming service shows, no cartoons, no books, no video games (I never played the video games anyway), no theme park rides, no more moichendising

Okay the first time I tried to write my thoughts, tumblr just decided not to post it but I would like to say thanks for asking me (i’ve been secretly hoping someone would lol). Now let me try this again

I’ll start with Life 2.0 (mostly because it’s the story I’ve replayed the most). On my first device I romanced Jaime (and what a mistake that turned out to be), because his life was a mess. Like a hot mess. He’s cute, but the guy has to figure his stuff out. I know MC’s life is kind of a mess too as she moves into San Francisco but his life is REALLY a mess. But I guess I wasn’t expecting just how much of a mess it was, it kind of surprised me lol (kudos to the storyscape team for being able to do that). And now replaying it the few times that I have - I get it. I get some of his choices, how he’s gotten to this point. Other than how the game hinting at the rough neighbourhood he grew up in by showing you where he’s lived (which he will defend tooth and nail about), the little bits with his cousin and his ex. I get why specifically he feels stuck in his ex-relationship. And not just his relationship, I feel like it spills over in other parts of his life too. But in regards to his relationship with his ex, I think I understand especially since I’ve had friends in similar positions in the past. Not to absolve him of any guilt - because he totally should have given MC more of a warning and been more open about it when he had the chance. It still just sucks on the other end of that. Even though my first MC Zara is more of open and to kind of likes to take everything day by day; she isn’t the type to fall for someone that isn’t upfront about something like that. Honesty is huge for her. So this as a big-time red flag. So nipping that into the bud, Zara moved on between flirting with Mishel and Cute Dave (who is very cute but very awkward lol, and I feel like there isn’t enough chemistry there) until Etan came along and honestly? I really like Etan. He’s older which surprised me but in a good way. He has this kind of sophistication without being a dick about it. And although his introduction was kind of cringey considering MC’s circumstances at the party and his ‘rescue’, BUT when he DECKED that asshole of a CEO - 10/10. I was like yup, that’s all I needed for you to convince me.

I also made it a point to romance Mishel on my second device with my MC Dior - who is very very gay. The whole Jaime flirting didn’t work out well for him and I forgot to mention how smitten I was with Mishel’s design? The girl is gorgeous and her cgs are probably my favourite in storyscape. (So are her flirting scenes). They’re hot, raunchy - and she’s got a great personality. I also like that they didn’t introduce her so…girl-next-door, I’m-only-here-to-be-your-friend, and more like a force to be reckoned with. Abigail grew on me in a way I think she was supposed to and I find that drunk kiss near the end of the book, very endearing. Also that the kiss in the rain? Romantic, beautiful *chief’s kiss*. Basically I sort of ended up romancing a little bit of everyone but what I really enjoyed is that the game doesn’t force you to choose one or the other and some characters (like Mishel when it came to Abigail) encourages you to pursue your options.

The characters made Titantic interesting for me. I wasn’t particularly sure I would enjoy it but I think every character had a part to play and the LIs were all interested but for their own different reasons. Matteo was definitely my favourite. He started off the way I expected; cold, callous and very-business like. Even when as he kind of came to terms with his attraction to the main character, he didn’t see it as anything more until later. But her influence on him changed the way he perceived things and I really love that kind of character development. I didn’t like Charlie’s as much and haven’t finished pursuing him; mostly because you have the option to leave him on the ship willingly or beat him over the head to knock him out. But his be the hero shtick made leaving him the best choice (and I’ve read that he gets really upset at you for taking him against his will), which sucks because his romance was more light humoured and sweet while Matteo’s was a lot more passionate and raw. I’ve started again for romancing Zetta because that woman is gorgeous and she deserves much better than the man she intended to marry but I haven’t finished that route yet.

I’m not sure if the X-files has any romance because I haven’t played it yet, but Eternal City kind of hints towards romance with the people your MC has known for their entire life. Because my MC was more of a loner it was kind of hard at first to make that connection seem intrinsic, but she did get a long pretty well with Cinder and when the option to kiss him came up as he was saying his goodbye, I was like huh? It was cute and bitter in a heartbreaking kind of way for him to leave their little circle but I wasn’t sure beyond that how to feel. IT HAD A CG AND EVERYTHING. Plus there’s also this really adorable scene between Violet and MC if MC chose to complete the Cager ritual with her by going to rescue her. Violet kind of brushes her forehead against MC’s after and I was really touched by that moment. But I don’t think there’s romance persay as yet in this part of the story, but I’m hoping it will continue with another season of Eternal City.

Well, I’ve written it all (mostly) again. I’M SORRY I WROTE SO MUCH. I just had so many thoughts about it. I hope I didn’t bore you, I appreciate the ask :)
